Don't wait for them to take your order. They might not come. We waited a long time and then come to find out later when she's talked to another table that you ordered from the QR code, which wasn't invisible for my side of the table. Some food was really good. I like the soup dumpling but it was really hard to get it out of the foil container and it was stuck, which punctured it so we didn't get the full effect of the soup dumpling. My salt and pepper shrimp some parts were very salty and I usually like salty food. And my string beans look like had some old string beans in there. That were darker than the rest of the string beans. Was not a fan of the taste of the Shanghai meat buns. Also try to check out on the app but it wouldn't let me and told me it would queue my server and she never came. We tried to call her over several times and even asked for boxes two times. But she helped somebody else instead. Also, the pricing on this place is really expensive compared to other places. We only had four dishes and paid almost $100. The place was a little nice clean. We ordered: * Salt and Pepper Lamb: 7.6/10 This was flavorful and fried pretty well. It's seasoned very similarly to the fish dish I had the last time I was here. They seem to utilize curry powder in all of their "salt and pepper" dishes. My main gripe about this dish is that the CHUCKS of fat. Maybe that would be appealing to some but each lamb stick had like ~35% fat which is A LOT if you consider that there's already not much meat on each rack. * Broccoli and Seafood Stir Fry: 7.5/10 This was nothing exceptional, I feel that you can definitely get this at any Chinese restaurant. It was flavorful and the veggies and seafood was cooked well (not over or undercooked). * Orange Chicken: 7.5/10 Tastes exactly like panda express but with a slightly better frying method? However, the pieces of chicken was a lot less substantial (many random thin and small pieces) I would note that the dishes do take a while to be made and brought out. Hits: The xiao long bao had a wonderful burst of umami rich broth with tender pork inside. Warm and comforting. The dough a bit thick for my taste. The crispy duck was absolutely spot on. This place is pretty fabulous! The food is amazing and fresh and so good. The orange chicken is incredible!! Soup dumplings wonderful! Honestly everything was so good. All served family style and decent portions, the orange chicken could have a larger portion since it was family style. Service was fast. They are very friendly and so nice. You will most likely need a reservation. It gets packed. There is no parking, so you will have to go down the street across the Chic Fila in the public parking. It also fills up fast. Alas a concoction of shoyu vinegar and chili paste (?) that was available to us on the table sufficed. The filling was a yummy nugget of pork and chunk of shrimp. Great wrapper too. The texture made me think it was made in house. Beef broccoli was also yums. Broccoli still has crunch while not fearing I'd break a tooth. Beef was juicy and tender. Great flavor. Sesame bread. We ordered pickup here and it was delish! Usually pickup food can be tricky and may not be as good but it was! I followed recommendations by others and ordered Orange Beef, Garlic String Beans, and my husband got Mongolian Beef. Honestly the Mongolian Beef wasn't good, but the Orange Beef and String Beans were delicious! They gave it to us with the sauce on the side which is smart so it doesn't become soggy. I was suspicious cause the fried beef looked white so I was nervous but when we dipped the beef into the sauce, it was soooo good! We will have to try this place again but so far this has been the best Chinese food that we've found on island! Both times I've ordered Uber Eats from this place has been horrible unfortunately. My partner, my mom, and I ordered from here on Christmas and it was really bad. First, it took nearly 2 hours (uber eats driver's fault, not there's) and when we go it everything was cold and soggy. Our pan fried pork buns were incredibly soggy and somehow WET and mushy also. And our orange chicken had NO ORANGE SAUCE. It was dry. My mom and partner got really bad food poisoning from it afterwards. I will say it was quite late when we ordered it so it may have been the last of what was left, but I don't think that should excuse it. Recently had the opportunity to dine at the Dew Drop Inn with my family at 1088 S Beretania St located directly across the Auntie Pasto's Italian Restaurant, diagonally from the First Hawaiian Bank in the Makiki area. Have always driven past this unique location until it was shared by several friends. The respective dishes we tried were the Mongolian Beef, Mushroom Chicken, Soup Dumplings, Green Onion Pancakes, and the Sweet Cinnamon Rolls. Highly recommend this type of Taiwanese cuisine. Very different from a typical Chinese restaurant. The food was very tasty and the portions were great. The service was prompt and excellent. Will most likely make this restaurant as a go-to place in the near future to try other dishes on their menu. Dinner was exceptional! read more

Every table was full, servers were moving fast, and food was coming out quickly. People kept walking in looking for seats, but the room stayed full. Service was very nice and friendly, and the place felt homey and local We ordered three dishes: dumplings (pork and chives) for $18, Choy Sum Bean Curd for $18, and the Shao Bing (pork, veggies, tofu) for $19. Everything was good, but nothing struck me as special. The exception was the Shao Bing, which was new to us and very delicious. At $18-19, the meal felt pricey for what we got. If I return, it will be for that Shao Bing; the rest didn't justify the price the same way Overall, the food was good but didn't show that extra X factor we look for. Best Chinese/Taiwanese food I've had in a long time! [Location] This unassuming gem is located on Beretania near Chick-fil-a. There are very limited parking spots to the left-hand side of the restaurant entrance. Drive with caution as there are people that walk by and the space is narrow. You can also park at a metered spot, but be mindful of the time you park and cost. I believe the restaurant has a restroom, though I'm not sure. The space is much larger than it looks, and well ventilated. Nice and cool! Wish I had brought a light jacket. Limited seating. I can see how the place can get packed quickly. [Food] My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Shanghai pork buns (came with black vinegar) which were super delicious! The Taiwanese noodle soup (described spicy) is the star of the menu. The broth is flavorful, lots of aromatics! Plenty of tender beef morsels and delicious ong choy. If you don't like cilantro, you may not appreciate this dish. I also found it interesting that the noodles were more udon-like than I've seen in different renditions of this dish. My boyfriend liked his Mongolian beef but noted it wasn't spicy. I didn't care for the Mongolian beef because there wasn't much to it, in portion or taste. The dish didn't come with rice, so we had to order a side bowl of jasmine rice for $2.00 extra. Good portion of rice, very well cooked. This place is BYOB, though I'm not certain if there is a corking fee. The dishes were priced on the high side but I did leave with plenty of leftovers! [Service] The staff were very kind and friendly, though not the most attentive. We had to ask for hot tea, as we were only given ice waters; however, the tea was flavorless (tasted like water). Dew Drop has been at the same location since the 80s. It's one of the very few local mom and pop restaurants that I like going to. The owner Charlie and wife, Becky, cook up Taiwanese dishes with a local taste. The dumplings are good as well as their ground pork sesame bread pockets. Finish your meal with some black sesame balls. This is a small restaurant seating around 25 people comfortably, but can probably pack 35 diners. Becky runs the front of the house and Charlie does the cooking. Their son Jimmy helps out both in the front and in the kitchen. I finally got to try Dew Drop Inn in Honolulu, and I'm glad I did. It was my first time and the place has a quiet charm family-run, with a menu full of northern Chinese dishes that feel both familiar and new. I went in with no expectations, just curiosity. A few dishes really stood out: #12, the cold egg with pressed tofu, had a unique texture and flavor that caught me off guard in a good way. #66, the Szechuan eggplant, packed bold seasoning with just the right heat. #41, the steamed fish with ginger onion sauce, was clean and comforting and #7, the spicy boiled chicken dumplings, were a highlight tender, flavorful and topped with fresh herbs and crispy shallots that gave it a nice lift. I didn't get around to trying #50 (orange chicken) or #58 (salt and pepper lamb) but I did sample #9, the cold jellyfish. It was more subtle than the others, but still interesting. You can tell the kitchen is run with care but I noticed the focus seems to lean more toward takeout these days. The in-person service was quiet, not as hands-on as I would have expected. All-in-all I'm planning to go back with family soon. There's a lot more on the menu I want to try and I'd love to support a local spot that's clearly built on tradition and heart. read more

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We came at 445pm which was right before the dinner traffic which started to get busy at 530pm. They take reservations but we came before it got busy so we're seated immediately. The food was good, not great. The Mapo Tofu was a 7/10 according to my child who claims expertise in all things Mapo Tofu. The steam buns here probably the best thing we tried. The fried shrimp were too flaky and the green beans were meh. The spicy wontons were decent, but I am still searching for the best that can beat those spicy wontons that I found in Burnaby, BC. I really want to give it a better review but there are better places in Honolulu. Parking was not great and is a deal changer for my wife if she had to go alone. My parents found this place making some foods we weren't able to find since the only place in the Chinese cultural plaza closed down years ago. Call early and make an appointment. They were booked like crazy. We got real lucky and they said if we got there when they opened they could squeeze us in before all the big reservations started. This is a real local mom and pop kind of restaurant. So please treat them nice and be pleasant. They appear to be understaffed with the amount of people they cram in there. When the reservations started coming it was non stop and they were full up. A very popular place for a Monday. The food is great. Lots of flavor and spice but not crazy spicy like you hear about northern Chinese foods in China. The sticky rice roll and the bread pockets you fill with the meat filling were both what we missed and stand outs. The beef noodle soups and hot/sour soups were right behind it in rankings for us. If you can get a reservation we highly recommend trying this place! But understandable as they're one of the more difficult items to homemake. - Spicy Sauce Wonton Shrimp & Pork - this was very good. They were quite plump and delicious! - Shanghai Noodle with Chicken - lots of flavor in the dish with a variety of proteins and vegetables. But I overall didn't really care much about this dish. - Orange Chicken - at first, I was kind of skeptical in ordering this but my friend wanted it. Orange chicken was one of the few Chinese foods that I'm skeptical of because it was not a true Chinese dish (lol). However, this dish surprised me! The chicken was coated very well in both flour and sauce. It had such a nice crunch and the flavor of the glaze wasn't too overwhelming (just a tad too much in my opinion).
