    Dumplings (chicken and mushroom)

Located at The Spot right by Rockville Town Square, so there is free outdoor parking very close by (and a parking garage as well), Mian Pull Noodle is one of my favs. I was suffering from a cold and the Veggie plain noodle bowl (with skinny noodles) in beef broth was just what I needed to help me feel better. I read a few reviews stating that the bowls are not flavorful, but I disagree. I really loved the generous portion of veggies and noodles in my $6.99 bowl. My husband had an order of the chicken and mushroom dumplings. I thought those lacked in flavor, but they were okay and still fun to eat. I liked how tender and chewy they were in texture. I will say it took about 25 minutes for our order to be ready, but watching the noodles being hand-pulled in front of my eyes helped me to understand the detail of work the staff does to prepare each meal.

One of the restaurant in the Spot (food court) that we have bookmarked to try and it did not disappoint. The wait for Sunday lunch was very minimal. Spent more time looking for parking than the order itself. If no parking is available on the ground floor, we found a garage parking right around the corner. The stir fry was made to order and delicious. Portions were pretty generous. The tofu was a little too runny for me....but was good nonetheless. Enjoy!

This review is for their hand-pulled noodle soup with duck. +The noodles were pulled nicely and had a good umami flavor to it. It reminded me of Papa John's pizza dough; it's kind of hard to explain. +The broth was hearty and full of flavor. +I enjoyed the vegetables in the soup. -The duck meat was a bit lacking and rough. I had to chew it down a bit. Overall, there's a lot of Chinese restaurants that offer homemade noodle soups in the DMV, so the competition is fierce. However, I would give this place another shot if I were in the Rockville Town Center area.

beef noodle soup with flat noodles, veggie stir fry in the back

LOVE the flat noodles. Great texture and taste. Ordered the beef noodle soup (slices not chunks) and they give you a generous serving of beef. I wish there were more noodles though (you can't even see it in the photo) and a little less beef. Broth was tasty and well-seasoned. Not sure if they use MSG because it didn't taste too salty, but afterwards I needed to drink so much water (both times that I had it). Also tried the combination beef noodle soup. The tendon and tripe were great, lots of meat once again and not enough noodle. The beef chunks were overcooked; a little too dry on the inside but not inedible. Friend got the vegetable stir fry and there was a hair found in it...

Mian is a new noodle joint that just opened with the food hall, The Spot. The hand-pulled noodles are freshly made in-house, as you can see when you walk by. They also have thin noodles. I ordered the beef tendon noodle soup (~$10). The noodles were great, but the broth was lacking in flavor. The bowl of noodles is a pretty decent size. There are so many better beef noodle soups in Rockville (A&Js, Bob's Shanghai, etc). The beef tendon was cooked just fine. They offer chili oil and Chinese vinegar.

This spot has a big reputation when it comes to fresh pulled noodles. I don't know any other restaurant that does this in the DMV area. They do it well here! Mian is located inside of the new 99 Ranch Market in VA. They offer a variety of restaurants that include Mian as one of the stars. There is one main guy that pulls the noodles right in front of you so you can see how fresh they are doing it. When there is a rush, he is always on time with the noodles. The noodles are soft, and chewy but still have a bite to it. I tried a couple of there items: *Pork Burger *Assorted beef noodle *Spare rib noodle *Roasted duck noodle *Pan fried pork and chive dumpling Let's start with the burger, it could have been more saucy because it was a little dry. The flavor was there and the bread was good. The potstickers were amazing! I loved the flavor and I will definitely recommend getting them! Now to the main items the noodles! The assorted beef was my favorite. You can choose to get a spicy broth or original (I got original) it wasn't too sweet and you can get all the flavors from the beef. It had tripe, and 2-3 different cuts of beef. It came with onions, bok choy, and radish. Really great for a rainy day! The spare rib came with 3 pieces of pork ribs and the same onions and vegetables. Still flavorful and tasty! The roasted duck was so tender and crispy! I loved the skin of the duck cause it was still crispy and the meat was still tender and not dry at all! They have a variety of menu items that include stir fried noodles also. Check them out and see for yourself!

Fast bowl of hearty noodles and savory broth. What not to l Food: I love the flat, wide noodles!!! There's a few variety of beef with noodle soup but only one option for (roast) duck and (bbq) pork. The broth is savory and I feel the flavor is enhanced when you toss in the chili oil. Ambience: It's part of the spot food hall. Service: Fast hearty food. No complaints.

Picked up some noodles to go and got the spicy broth with the braised beef and hand shaved noodles. The hand shaved noodles were a great texture. The spicy broth would definitely be better if it was a bit spicier and it would have been better if they added more bokchoy. Would definitely get their noodle soup again and try out their other dishes the next time I go.

This was located at The Spot, my first time here. At first when I saw what the menu board had to offer, I thought it looked somewhat limited. I decided on the Flank Pulled Noodle which was around $10. It came with a ramekin of vinegar and chili oil. I split the bowl with a friend as we wanted to share another dish from another restaurant at The Spot. The soup wasn't as hot as you would expect. I thought for the price there should have been more meat and noodles. I thought the flank was ok but wasn't expecting tendons to be attached to it. I threw that away. My friend thought the soup was a bit salty but I thought it was fine. Not a bad soup shop but given that there are better ones nearby that give you a better bang for your buck, not sure it will bring in as much business.

I was super excited to try this place out in the Spot because they serve hand pullednoodles! Usually the noodles are so much better in soup when they are hand pulled! Unfortunately there isnt anything to rave about this place. I did like the noodles and that you can pick flat or thin noodles. It was also cool that you can watch them hand-pull the noodles. buuuut the flavor of the soup was slacking. wheres all the flavor!?!? I ordered the first soup which was just beef noodle soup. I also like my beef to be very tender, this was not. To open a place like this in Rockville, where we basically have our own little chinatown of great chinese restaurants, they gotta step up the flavor in the soup! It was almost $10 for a bowl (which wasnt a very big bowl) where you can go to many other chinese restaurants in the area for cheaper and better bowl of soup. They served dark vinegar and chili oil which i guess can make the soup better. but this place is nothing spectacular. so sad! Also, to walk around with a bowl of soup on a tray in a crowded area to look for a seat, is no fun. The soup wasnt even piping hot! i'd rather go to a sit down restaurant to order my soup so i dont have to carry it.

I've tried their noodles and I've tried their chicken and mushroom dumplings. Both were okay. The dumpling skin was a bit too thick for me and not very juicy. The noodles are homemade with nice texture but seem very bland to me. The beef in the noodle bowls aren't very good in my opinion. Very sinewy with bits of fat. Even though the place is very mediocre to me, it's still nice to have a place that serves warm homemade noodle soup every once in awhile on a cold breezy day.

I don't understand why there are so many poor reviews for Mian? I ordered a beef combo with hand pulled noodles. The broth and noodles were great. And the amount of each beef item such as the tripe and tendon was appropriate. I really feel that Mian will be busy and get better reviews during the winter months.

I've been here a couple times already - when I went a week or so ago, they've definitely updated their menu and added a few new things. I will review the 3 dishes I've had: 1) Pork and chive dumpling (8 for $6.75). They're good and hit the spot if you're looking for a dumpling fix. It's a thicker skin, and the filling is okay. It's nothing remarkable or amazing, but it is consistent. 2) Beef Noodle Soup ($9.75) It's topped with cilantro and green onions, with some bok chop pieces as well. The noodles are great, I usually go for the knife cut noodles because it reminds me of my time abroad in Taiwan. The broth is okay, it's not bad, but it's not complex like pho, ramen, or Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It's a very lightly flavored broth (I wouldn't call it watery, but it is light and works with what's in the bowl). 3) Noodles with scallion oil I've always hoped they would offer a dry noodle option and they did it here (however only available with thin noodles). The scallion oil is nicely flavored, but it's literally an oil that had fried scallions and onion flavor in it and maybe a light sauce of some sort. There's nothing else in the bowl besides the noodles, oil/sauce, and green onions.... I wish they offered bok choy or another option for a vegetable to cut through the sauce, but overall it was good. I also ate this with the dumplings so it was a carb overload (of the best kind). I'm not totally sure I would get this again unless they added something. Overall, for one of the few fresh noodle places, this is definitely good. I think the pricing is odd though. A bowl of only noodles + soup is 5.99, but if you get any sort of protein, it's another $4 basically. One irksome thing about eating here though, they never have soup spoons, so you're trying to drink soup with a regular sized spoon. I don't get that considering they use reusable bowls if you dine in and there are a ton of Asian grocery stores nearby where you can easily get a soup spoon for like less than a $1 each (reusable)

The beef noodle soup! The broth color is a little bit lighter than is typical

So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Thick wheat noodles topped with a rich sauce made from (I think) fermented soybean paste and braised pork belly, garnished with cucumbers. The portion was way to big for me to eat after my flight, but I really, really enjoyed it (and the remaining dumplings) for lunch today. Did I say yowza? I'm an adventurous eater so the menu's less Americanized items were what I would have ordered given more time (like Maoxuewang: can you say "pig's tongue, spam, pork intestine, and beef tripe"? Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM on a weekend and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy yet. One thing to note is that the entire party needs to be present before being seated, which they enforce, but it helps keep things moving smoothly once you're inside. The service felt traditional and efficient, with attentive push carts circulating constantly, making it easy to see what's fresh and grab dishes as they come by. The staff were also accommodating with a baby seat, which made the visit comfortable for families. The steamed cart is always my favorite, and Far East does it well. Standouts for me were the shrimp rice crepe (silky and delicate), shrimp dumplings (har gow) with plump, juicy filling, and the steamed ribs, which were tender and flavorful. The chicken feet and tripe were also well prepared -- classic dim sum staples done right. I also loved the sticky rice, which was fragrant and satisfying, along with two must-order bakery items: the pineapple buns and egg tarts. Both were fresh and comforting, with the egg tarts having that perfect balance of flaky crust and smooth custard. Overall, Far East delivers a solid, traditional dim sum experience -- lively carts, reliable favorites, and a welcoming environment for groups and families. Far East is a longtime staple in the DMV food scene, having been in operation since 1974. I was a few times a year patron leading up to 2019, and the last time I was there was in 2023. During my 2023 visit, the place was showing it's age with dingy matted carpeting and cramped dining room. Against my better judgement, I made the trek into Rockville to meet up with some folks for Sunday dim sum. IMHO, while it's true at one point, VA dim sum was inferior to it's MD siblings across the river, I'd say there are plenty of comparable if not BETTER places in VA. Our group was large (15), so we had to dine at two tables, as the largest table could only accomodate12. And note, for dim sum, Far East does not seat incomplete parties, so everyone arrive early. Also note, if you do choose to dine here, the parking lot is fairly small - but there is additional parking towards the back past the dumpsters. My recollection from 2023, was the selection of dishes was quite limited, and the 3-4 ladies who were pushing the steam carts, were peddling the same items over and over. That experience has not changed in 3 yrs. Upon sitting, our hungry group ordered dishes of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shumai, tofu rolls, rice rolls w/shrimp and beef, etc. Everything was fine; but nothing really stood out. The items were lukewarm, and cooled within a few minutes of being passed around the Lazy Susan. To me anyway, I found many of the dishes to be underseasoned...and when does a person characterize Chinese food as not being SALTY enough? The table chili oil was also quite bland. There was a good mix of fried chilis combined with oil, but there was just a hint of spice/heat with the predominant flavor being a heavy greasiness. Perhaps the worst part of the experience was the service. Even accepting that Chinese restaurants are notorious for "providing" legendary bad service, Far East exceeded that reputation. I understand that it was Sunday and the place was busy, but it took over 10 minutes for water and tea to arrive. And a few times, I literally had to get up from the table to flag down servers to refill empty water glasses and tea pots. Piles of dirty dishes kept piling up to the point where a few of us, took them to the bussers and food runners ourselves to make space for new dishes at the table. However, the worst incident was at the end when the servers and what I assume was the manager, rushed us to pay the bill since they needed the table, one of the staff was hurriedly cleaning the table, and spilled an entire glass of ice water on my friend's dress! He didn't even apologize, and when she went to complain to the manager, the only thing he said was, "it's only water, it will wash out." Wow! even by Chinese restaurant standards, that's bad!!! When the bill arrived, the total came out to roughly $35/person with tax and tip (gratuity is already included for larger parties, so be sure to double-check the bill). The meal was definitely NOT worth the $35, and for that amount, I could've had a much better and filling meal at Peter Chang Herndon - https://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-chang-herndon?osq=Peter+Chang This will undoubtedly be the last time I travel to Montgomery County for dim sum...and especially to Far East Restaurant.

The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. I enjoy the home-style cooking, and it's the kind of restaurant that's especially fun to visit with a larger group so you can sample a variety of dishes.

But definitely coming back and will update as I try more dishes

Authentic Sichuan Chinese food. Went here per rec of a md local. Very traditional Chinese interior,…read moreservice was simply ordering and bill, and the food is something I'll be thinking about got the next few days... sijidou -sichuan green beans: I don't know what they put in this - and was honestly very skeptical at first - but it was a huge flavor bomb and I ended up liking it a lot more than I expected. suancaiyu sour fish: this restaurant does the dish very well. The portions are huge and the sourness is on point. ziranyang cumin lamb - extremely tender lamb; it was super super cumin forward. Big fan of cumin personally but will say also a little on the overwhelming side if you didn't stagger it with rice Fuqifeipian cold tripe and beef - very solid cold appetizer. Would love more of the chili oil they put in this. Not too spicy but very aromatic's Overall made a super big impression on me asa first meal in Rockville. Coming from the west coast where it's predominantly canto food I really enjoyed how well season everything was. We will be going back especially for the beans
