I requested for a female doctor a referral for my ovarian cyst, but I was dismiss and dehumanized by doctor Micheal Borookim. I will not tolerate his discourteous act of Service towards me. I mentioned I would like to be seen by a female doctor (woman of color) I did not make this statement to imply division I stated this base on my comfortability and my rights as a woman, Dr. Borookim was very dismissive and stated "I do not care that you are implying you want to be seen by a woman doctor of color that doesn't do anything for me" "it's not a serious matter so we can schedule you something here at Chinatown service" that's not my request. For Dr. Borookim to make this statement, lets me know Dr. Borookim discriminates against women and he can not help me on my health journey. As I inform Dr. Borookim I am in urgent need to see a Obgyn I am in pain, I've been to the ER they have provided me with scans and other documents to verify my health condition and once again Dr. Borookim was discourteous. I will make a call to corporate and report this doctor also change my physician. No one at all specially women and women of color should have to experience this type of treatment at all. read more

Moreover, he returns calls quickly, which is important. It feels like he truly cares and that comes across from his questions and detail-oriented attitude. Dr. Borookhim did not tell me one joke so I don't know why everyone finds him hilarious. He was actually kind of morose. Maybe he was having an off day. He knew all the questions to ask about what was bothering me. I felt that he was able to assure me that I was okay. However, I'm didn't feel completely comfortable with him as a person since he was so morose. Also, I was told the day before that my appointment was canceled (via voicemail), and when I called in the next day to ask why, I was told that the doctor could actually "accommodate" me. I would have missed my appointment if I hadn't asked to confirm that my appointment was canceled. He did send me an email before my appointment saying he was looking forward to meeting me. read more

I wanted to like this doctor, but he made that very hard. His clinical exams were brief and performed as we sat in chairs facing each other. I have to agree with others -- I found no sense of humor here, he did seem morose a good deal of the time, and he also complained bitterly to me about his rent, and about insurance companies, a very unprofessional self-indulgence. I mentioned an eye complaint and inconclusive treatment from other doctors. He insisted that I see another specialist,who proved equally inconclusive and twice as expensive. He kept recommending expensive and discretionary treatment, like a $300 vaccination for shingles (I have no history of related complaints and am still a bit young for the guidelines). I found myself quickly tangled in a web of regular appointments that resulted in little benefit to me -- and more billing opportunities for his office. Finally, the "cash only" policy was pretty shabby for any professional. I felt like I was dealing with a drug dealer, engaged in some illicit conspiracy to beat the tax man entirely for his benefit. It was also pretty inconvenient having to hit the ATM each time I came in for an appointment. He seems very young and confused about how best to build a profitable practice. One way might be to ditch that expensive big office space on Wilshire. I wish him well, but cannot recommend him. Anyone seeking fair and appropriate care can likely be better served elsewhere. read more

The worse doctor I've ever been to! Found out abt him through Yelp and went to him because I had a very bad cold... I went there after I made a same day appointment (which deserves a one star) and despite giving the receptionist all the basic info about me they wanted my social security card(who the hell carries that nowadays?) and was so rude when I told them I didn't have it on me... the doctor was in a really crappy mood and put me in a shittier mood since I was super sick. I had a very positive experience for my first check up. Dr Borookhim asked questions, listened, and patiently answered all my questions. You really can tell when a physician is paying attention, he spotted something that I know I've dealt with for over 10 years and no other doctor had noticed before and requested tests to be done for. Dr. Borookhim is a great doctor, and I highly recommend him. I looked at his negative reviews here, and I have two things to say: 1. With two family members in the medical business, I know for a fact that you don't care about jokes, or bedside manner, or parking, or office staff. What you want, and the only thing you want, is a doctor that can accurately and quickly diagnose what ails you. I went to Dr. Borookhim because I found a Yelp review from a patient that he had diagnosed after being misdiagnosed by several others. That is the highest, and really the only, recommendation for a doctor. I didn't personally have any strange issues, but Dr. Borookhim is certainly among the best in being thorough. Huge marks for this. 2. Doctors are advisors. Everyone seems to forget that their healthcare belongs to them. So, you need a doctor that will talk with you, not just tell you what to do. Dr. Borookhim gets top marks for this. He discussed my condition with me at length and told me why certain treatments work and don't work. In the end, I took his advice but modified it, and he understood and agreed. Also, he will answer email quickly and thoughtfully, although don't abuse this, just limit it to important communications. He also clearly knows the limits of email, and when to have you come back in. In short, great diagnositcian, great communiator ... hence, great doctor. If the stuff in the negative reviews bothers you, go see someone else, but if you are really looking for a doctor, go see Dr. Borookhim. read more

I wrote my first review about Dr. Borookhim's practice, right after my first visit, about 2 1/2 years ago. I've been a patient ever since, and I'm happy to say--he wholeheartedly maintains his 5-star rating in my book. Here's an example of why Dr. B has made me a patient for life: I had a nasty hiking accident last fall. The UCLA-ER knuckleheads completely botched the stitch-job on my arm, sewing me up with dirt/debris still inside the wound. On a follow-up with Dr. B, shortly thereafter, he instantly recognized something was wrong. What I thought was routine swelling, turned out to be a life-threatening infection. The good doctor was extremely thorough and took his time in the diagnosis. He called up one of his colleagues in the building and rushed me down to his office, for a quick second opinion (no appointment; just crowbar'd me right in there). After that, Dr. B called his connections at Cedars and got me a room that evening. I was in bad shape, but had no clue.... Final diagnosis: I got to keep my arm! I don't want to bore you with all of my details and experiences. I just want to illustrate that unlike most doctors, who just want to take your money, write you a script, and rush you out the door--Dr. Borookhim is a careful, deliberate and thorough practitioner. He cares deeply about his patients. Some people are giving him a hard time about his personality and sense of humor in these reviews. He's actually very personable, warm and has a great sense of humor. It's a "dry" sense of humor, which some people might not get, at first. Perhaps it takes a couple visits, but I enjoy my chats with Dr. Borookhim. Lastly, I've never had any financial hassles or insurance headaches with Dr. Borookhim's office. This facet adds a lot of bonus points, because I can't remember the last time I was financially unscathed by a medical visit or procedure. In closing, you can't go wrong with Dr. Borookhim. I initially chose Dr. Borookhim based on the positive reviews I found here on Yelp, and I can confirm that he is truly worth the praise on these pages. My first appointment was a general checkup. The offices were clean and easy to find, the support staff were pleasant and helpful. Dr. B made me feel comfortable right away, and saw me very quickly right at my appointment time. I didn't need a follow-up appointment, but he still called me and emailed me with a few comments and asking if I had any questions. I've never gotten an email from my personal doctor before! I chose Dr. Borookhim based upon a number of criteria including education, recommendation from other doctors as well as convenience of location. He's been my primary care physician for over a year now and even if I had to travel 100 miles to go to him; I would continue to do so. He is very knowledgeable on the latest in medicine and has the best rapport I've ever had with a doctor. He always has a smile on when I go in for my visits and is more than happy to assist in prescribing generic drugs that save me money at the drugstore. He even calls me to check on a change in medication that he prescribed. That is AMAZING personal service in this day and age. I wouldn't hesitate recommending him to any of my colleagues and friends. I found Dr. Borookhim on Yelp because usually Yelp has not stirred me wrong. Yet again Yelp was right! Dr. Borookhim is a thorough and sweet doctor. I didn't feel rushed and every question I had was answered. He went over my whole medical history and was very patient. I would refer Dr. Borookhim to friends and family. He is extremely approachable, down to earth and hilarious too. You don't have to worry about asking too many questions. I highly recommend him if you want a general doctor who will listen, no ridiculous waits in the lobby and polite front desk nurses. They even offered me a cookie. It was also easy for me to get an OBGYN referral. There is some street parking available or you have to pay for it in the building's garage. I've been seeing Dr. B for a couple years now. This guy seriously goes above and beyond. There's been a few times now that he's gotten back to me, same day - in the evenings. Not because he has to, but because that's the way he operates his practice, with care and professionalism. I recently had an experience where I needed a prescription filled. He waited on hold with CVS for 45 minutes on the doctors line to get me my prescription (I know this because he called me back to let me know he was still trying and there was hold music in the background) - on a Friday night. I don't know many providers who would go that far out of their way. He's never been judgmental, always been positive, and I've always been treated with respect and compassion. I could say a million great things about him... (and that's saying a lot coming from me). Dr B has my highest regard and recommendation. He's a phenomenal provider! I find Dr. B. to be extremely polite and trustworthy and an excellent diagnostician. I initially found him years ago when I saw his patient video testimonials on YouTube and thereafter started seeing him as a client. 15 years late and though having recently moved from Los Angeles, I still contact him to discuss all my medical issues and for consultations before I proceed with any interventions recommended to me. He is very much an advocate for his patients and often times used to remind me to avoid certain tests or procedures recommended by others because there was no indication  or that it was simply being recommended to me by someone else to be a financial boon to that particular practitioner. Dr. B not only sees you in the office but should you get sick can hospitalize you himself at Cedars Sinai Hospital. Unlike most Doctors these days he does not refer to you anyone else but comes in daily to see you wether its past midnight or early in the morning. He is kind, and listens to you and explains his thought process and when he sees fit he works with various other medical consultants who are also very talented and who respect him. At your office visits, he is usually onetime within 5 minutes of your appointment unless another patient delays him. When you call him, he responds to your calls in a timely fashion by the end of the day. He calls you about your lab results though he tells you till take up to 10-14 days though often he calls earlier. The office is centrally located to Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Downtown LA, South Central and Santa Monica. The building is beautiful, his office is more modern than most other doctors with natural lighting. Parking is typical of the area. They have valet parking or if you do some research there is free parking in the area within a 5-10 minute walk from his office. He usually comes in to get you himself from the waiting area and speaks to you and reviews your history each time and thereafter examines you and goes you his opinion. He is not afraid to tell you to go lose weight or stop making etc and does it is a firm but concerning way that you know he really is worried about your health. He keeps asking you and offering you little talks till you change your ways. Often times he avoids quickly throwing you a medication just to make you happy and actually will tell you why medications are not needed. Often times he instead insists on Alternative Eastern practices such as yoga, meditation, therapy etc as treatment. I find his mix of traditional western medicine and promotion of easter practices and healthy living to be different that what I have experienced with other practitioners. To save you time they send you all your paperwork via email and you can fill them out own advance and it saves you a lot of time which is nice. They do their best to respect your time and not keep you sitting around reading magazines and sitting in an examining room. Unlike a lot of the other offices, he actually sees you and you don't have to deal with a nurse practitioner or nurse. Its very much one to one relationship that you develop and he gets to know you extremely well. There billing practices are typical of most of other offices. They do charge you for no shows, and filling out paperwork and sending letters or telephone consults but I think those are reasonable. Overall I am very happy with my care and refer this office to all my friends and family. read more

Although my experience was not a complete bust I do find it hard to believe all these 5 star ratings. Especially the one that said he was hilarious, since both my husband and I found him to be very depressive and even when we made jokes during our appts he seemed to have no sense of humor at all. First, my appointment was fine. The reception was fine, the dr. gave me a thorough exam (maybe 25 minutes at most). However, I was not told to fast for the mid-afternoon appt until I was called to confirm my appt the day before. Please tell pts when they schedule their appt they will have to fast. Whatever, I could let this pass too. However, I was pretty offended when he recommended lapband surgery considering he already knew that I was on a weight loss program and overall very healthy despite an extra 40 pounds (he said nothing of the 30 pound already lost). He also already knew that I would be starting to try to conceive the following month, so it was a weirdly moot point that made me feel like he was simply telling me I was fat. When I mentioned that I thought drs would not do the surgery for my not-as-large size he waved this off and claimed that he had seen other pts my size and smaller get them done. With the life-long complications from this surgery I think it is his job as a dr to perhaps be a bit more cautious in his recommendations. Not validating parking I could almost let pass, although once I got their bill I think not. And a cash only co-pay? Are you kidding? For a regular physical exam I certainly did not expect a nearly $300 bill, and that's after the insurance deductions (we have great insurance, but had not met deductible, so I owe all of it). I saw his original charges and how they were reduced and I was shocked. The original charges were close to $700. I work for a specialist doctor myself, and I know these costs are ridiculous and overinflated. To top all of this off I sent my husband to him (before I got this bill) for a physical before we start TTC. Normally you can't offend my husband with anything, he is pretty mellow, but he gave my husband (29 year old healthy adult with no history of crazy medical issues) a book on 'How to Stay out of the ER) that is basically made for high school boys who get hurt from trying stunts from Jackass. I did not get this book, so it is not something he just gives to all of his pts. When my husband said he works in graphics and the doctor wanted a quote on a website the dr then scoffed at my husband's hourly rate saying it was 'crazy', yet the drs. rate, according to this bill, is at least 10x more. I will never recommend him to anyone, and I will not be back. I felt horrible about myself after leaving, like a big fat monster, and my husband was shocked at how he was treated like a lowlife. It is unbelievably unprofessional to treat your pts this way and also to complain to them about your high rent. No one forced you go to Beverly Hills to set up your practice. read more

This was the WORST doctors office I have ever been to. The office is dirty and outdated and not welcoming at all. The reception staff was rude and unprofessional. Dr. Borookhim has the personality of a rock. I was never comfortable and Dr. B made me feel like he was there just to make money. Sure enough, months after my appointment he told me I needed all sorts prescriptions. I have ALWAYS been healthy and this guy comes along and tells me I need medication for Vitamins??? Really? Finding a doctor I can connect with whom is also trustworthy has not been easy. Many of the Doctors I have experienced are small groups struggling to keep alive and are forced to have gimmicks and order necessary tests to up bill me and my family. Unfortunately this is going to get worse in the future and most doctors will be working as part of large health care institutions where you will lose the Doctor Patient relationship and you will be calling a number and have to go trough some automated system in the hopes that you will get lucky and your Doctor is actually on call when you try to reach him. My experience with the office of Dr. Borookhim has been thankfully different. First the office is centrally located to West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, West LA and Santa Monica and is easy to reach. The parking situation is reasonable. They have valet parking or you can try to park in the city parking lots which are about 2 blocks away. Fortunately it is a nice walk from the city lot. The office is not packed with tons of people waiting and he usually sees you in under 10 minutes and often under 5 minutes. Sometimes however if a patient comes late or there is an emergency then he hast to take care of the other patients and you might on a rare occasion have to sit a bit longer. Overall his wait times are significantly less than that of other doctors office that I have been to. After hours if you need to speak to him, you dial his emergency number and he pick up his own phone which is amazing. I never speak to anyone but him which is an amazing feeling to know that the person who knows you best will pick up their phone for you 24-7. His staff is pleasant. They will email you all the paperwork you need to complete so you don't have to waste your time in the office completing the forms and thus your save money on your parking. The Doctor, likes to come get you himself and greets you personally. Once he brings you in to the room, he focuses on you. The beauty of his practice is that as of now, he has never used a nurse or other practitioner. He sits with you and looks at you and discusses all your concerns, gets your vital signs himself and then examines you himself. His exams are very thorough and I have never felt rushed. He is very attentive to your questions and tries to figure out what your goals are when you are coming to the office. When it is time for him to give you his thoughts and recommendations he tries to include you in the decision making process based on your needs, and views. If you prefer to not use medications which he tries to minimize as well, he tries to encourage alternative avenues. He is a big fan of encouraging heathy diets, exercise, yoga, meditation, therapy and such things and it has often been helpful when he has encouraged me to this route over medications. His skills as a diagnostician are excellent.  I have experienced this myself and also when I have brought my grandmother to him. He has a group of other physicians in his office from other specialities from Cardiology to Gastroenterology, to Podiatry and Neurology and thus if you need a referral it all gets done in one location. There is a lab in the building as well so its a one stop shop which saves time. Overall the Doctor is a very pleasant person, who cares for his patients, and is very responsive when called with good beside skills and excellent diagnostic skills. I tend to like to prefer small businesses as we are seeing less and less of them survive and this is one small office I would love to see thrive in this current environment of Obama Care and Big Box Medicine. read more

I have been looking for a good internist for quite some time, and I am VERY picky about physicians because I worked in the medical field for years and know that good doctors are very hard to come by. First of all when I called Dr. Borookhim's office, the receptionist was unbelievably kind and helpful (which is RARE! not a snarky comment or abrasive attitude here!). She was able to fit me in on the day I was looking to come in, and sent me the necessary new patient paperwork via email so I could save time. When I arrived at the office the morning of my appointment, I did not wait long to see the Dr. and the front office staff was kind and welcoming. An excellent selection of magazines was available, but I didn't wait long enough to take advantage of them. Once I was brought into the exam room, Dr. Borookhim did my vitals and a very through exam (what doctor does their own patient history and vitals these days??). Dr. Borookhim found that I have a heart murmur that was undetected for 30 yrs and was very helpful in answering my questions. I never felt rushed or like I was just a number waiting to be called. What is really exceptional about Dr. Borookhim is that he makes himself available via email (!!!!) WOW right?!?! Having had my share of experience with doctors and knowing what they are supposed to do and what they actually do in the time they are given, Dr. Borookhim deserves every star that he is receiving. The fact that he does an actual physical is so rare when you are used to getting just vitals from a nurse and 2 minutes face time followed by a prescription. He addressed all my concerns and gave excellent referrals of reputable doctors in the area. Also he has been very communicative through email within minutes of the time I have questions. My husband found Dr. B via the emergency room when he was assigned to take care of him. Husband was really sick with a high fever and Dr. B was very thorough and the kind of physician you remember and seek out. Once, I was without a doctor and it was the weekend and I had an extreme sore throat. Dr. B allowed me to come to the hospital where he was doing rounds or something and got me in for a quick exam. I was in search of a good Doctor while I was living in Lancaster, Ca and had no luck. I heard great reviews about Dr. Borookhim, but was hesitant because his office was an hour and a half away. Upon my arrival for my first appointment I signed in and waited just like every other office. To my surprise, a few minutes later, Dr. Borookhim personally came to the waiting room to get me for my appointment. Unlike other offices where a nurse calls you in, takes your vitals and puts you in a room for eternity, Dr. Borookhim personally took me in, did my vitals himself, and continued right on with my appointment. I was thoroughly impressed with not only how professional he is, but how personal he is. He listened to all my concerns, and addressed each one individually. I never felt rushed at anytime during the whole appointment. Not only does he take his time during visits, he personally responds to my phone calls and emails right away! I would highly advise not going to this doctor strictly based on his billing practices. If you need to have phone consultation with the doctor after visiting him, be prepared to pay a phone consultation fee! I have never once experienced this with any doctor before. This is just plain outrageous. On top of that, if you miss an appointment (which apparently I did but never received ANY messages or phone calls and had no knowledge I even had an appointment) you will get a $75 missed appointment fee. To top it all off, if you have any blood work or tests done the office asks you wait two weeks before the doctor calls you for results. What the hell?! This review is long overdue! I have a concierge medical services agency and have worked with Dr. Michael Borookhim in the past. He worked with a patient of ours who had become very ill. Her primary MD at the time was difficult to get in contact with, and when we came onto the case we found many errors in her medical management. She became gravely ill and was admitted to the hospital. We found Michael, who stepped in to provide care for her and saved her life. Michael evaluated her while she was in ICU, picked up on signs and symptoms quickly and was able to bring her back from the brink. We can't thank him enough. read more

I have been seeing Dr B for years for my annual checkup and whenever I need him. He has always been able to see me very quickly, his office staff is friendly and he is very thorough with his exams. He is easy to talk to about personal stuff .. I think he is a great doctor and a good guy overall. read more
