I love taking my daughter to Michaels and getting fun craft projects.

I love this store because it is so close to my home, they always have great deals, and I can always find what I need. I gave this location 3 stars because every time I go to the Emeryville location they always announcing over the PA system, " Security you have a phone call on line one" I'm pretty sure this is just to let people know they have security in the building in hopes that they don't steal but I've worked in loss prevention for 10+ yrs and usually when you have to call for security over the PA, there is no security. Whoever is making this announcement and it seems like the same guy each time I've come in after work is assuming someone is stealing. It doesn't look good because as I stood in line waiting to purchase my items, I've seen black women enter the store and a few seconds later you here the announcement again. STOP MAKING THESE ANNOUNCEMENTS BEFORE YOU DRIVE PEOPLE AWAY FROM YOUR STORE IM SURE YALL DONT WANT A RACIAL DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT read more

Excellent customer service here; price adjustment readily made without any fuss when I discovered I had a 20% off coupon that worked on sales items in my pocket. Sure, I had to wait in line again, but it saved me an extra $6 and the experience was pleasant to boot. read more

i was looking for some frames, but it seems like the bigger the frame you're looking for, the less variety and quality it has. i need to get a 24x37 frame, and they don't seem to exist except for the cheesy looking basic poster frames... really ugly but yet expensive. what's up with that? they do seem to have a good selection of most other arts and crafts supplies though so it's nice to know that we've got a michaels close by, just in case... read more

It was my first time at this Michael's location. I decided to stop here since I was in the area and I needed two more skeins of yarn. The yarn "section" (if you can call it that) was to the immediate right when you enter the store. Their yarn section SUCKED! They barely had anything. And of course, they didn't have my yarn that I needed. LAME! read more

So much stuff, but I don't want 90% of it. The 3 aisles of scrapbooking gives me the creeps. Why do you need a tiny 3d paprika shaker? An entire aisle of velvet painting kits? Sponge Bob Square Pants candy cake topping? That being said, I walked out with $16.50 in undisclosed items. read more

Smaller than the Michael's I'm used to, but it seems like everything is pint-sized in Emeryville. Selection is typically small and they don't always have what I need, but it'll do. Bring a magazine, lines are typically pretty long. read more

I like Michael's in general. This store lacked organization and did not seemed to be well-stocked with things we were looking for (paints, foam paper). It's possible the place was transitioning out of Halloween. The place gets the job done though. read more

Was pleasantly surprised with this Michael's store. It is bright, spacious and clean. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, which I think is a real test of cleanliness! I had read the yelp reviews and I would agree on the customer service. It was nil. I must have seen at least five Michael's employees out on the floor, but not one of them asked if I needed any help, despite my obvious 'where is it' gaze. Even when I checked out, the only thing the cashier said to me was: "next". There was no, "did you find everything you were looking for" or "have a nice day". I deliberately didn't say anything when he handed me my receipt because I was waiting to hear if he would say anything to me, and he didn't. For this I give only one star...customer service is such a little thing, but can make a big difference whether or not a patron returns to your establishment. read more

This place has changed quite a bit since I last visited in 2010. This place used to have a good balance of arts and crafts goods. Now, this is the place for scrapbook needs, frames, crafts, knitting, and classes. It's a very nice location since it is surrounded by other stores like target, home depot, gamestop, sports authority, and best buy. read more

There is an awful lot of faux arts & crafts stuff here - like artificial flowers, premade "art" items like wood cuts outs, etc. Having said that there are art and craft supplies here if you root around and an expedition can be especially pleasant with a coupon. In general I prefer going to a real art supply store like Artist and Craftsman Supply, Utrecht or Dick Blick. read more

I like the new layout of the store. its very accessible. What I dont like is the customer service. never have. I don know if they train these folk or just pull them off the streets and ask them if they want a job. They dont know jack diddly about anything. They all have some kind of attitude like they dont want to even be there, except to get that almighty paycheck. besides that Michaels is expensive . I get some of the same craft stuff at Wally World, thats Walmart .The lines are still long but its improved a bit with the new design of the store. This is one of my fiance's favorite stores and where he gets most of his art supplies, mostly spray paint, sketch books and Sculpey. I always like wandering around here - they have so much stuff! My last purchase was some narrow pink ribbon to accessorize a dress with. I was disappointed in their selection of scrapbooks. It seemed to be mostly photo albums, which is not what I wanted. Their bridal/cake decorating section always blows my mind a little - I'm never looking for anything over there, so I just wander through it when I'm waiting for the man, and I'm always surprised at all the stuff they have in that section. I don't know how good it actually is if you needed something specific, it just seems like a lot to me because it never occurred to me that Michaels would even sell baking supplies. Anyway, I'm planning to make another trip soon for a bunch of our DIY wedding supplies. Good stuff! read more

I have a zillion pieces of art (mostly original comix art!) that has never been framed. Not museum quality stuff, but definitely worth preserving. Michael's framing center just saved my life in this regard. The staffer who worked with me, a graphic artist named Chris (--thank you so much, Chris) showed me the Michael's easy to navigate package pricing and then compared my request to an off the shelf frame. Of the 4 pieces I framed, I did two off the shelf (and inserted a new acid free mat) and two with their package menu. Chris compared prices for me and let me assist in the construction. My total bill was equivalent to the price of one item at a boutique framer nearby. I will definitely use Michael's again for framing. read more

The staff was very helpful in terms of helping me find what I needed. However, I have now been waiting 10 minutes in the checkout line! There are 10 people in line and one cashier. There has been no attempt to call up an additional cashier to help. Crazy! read more

Definitely one of the more organized and best variety Michaels in the area. They have a huge selection of yarns, scrapbooking, stamping, woodcrafts and seasonal crafts. The staff are very nice, I have never had a problem with returns, exchanges or rainchecks. Right now they have a huge clearance section, a great place to find some cool bargains. read more

Neat. Very neat indeed. The storehand by the name of Miguel helped this strong warrior explore his creative side by navigating this countryside filled with seemingly useless doodads and knick-knacks. There I was able to find a mantel on which to lay my battleaxe everynight as well as a picture frame to showcase the picture of me with the mighty Bruce Campbell. Very neat store. We came here for a few fun items to do some crafts. When we purchased our items the cashier withheld a bag of our items. I had to return to the store to retrieve the bag which the manager AJ said was behind the counter two. When I get here my bag is gone! Strange business at Michaels. went in a few days ago and i asked the manager help with a photo booth frame and she was so short and referred me to the back. she basically told me that she could not help me. so then i went to the back and rachel was absolutely amazing, she took the time to show me the different mats and frames available = she gave me ideas on how to decorate it. she was very nice unlike the manager who is simply rude (i wish i had gotten her name - i went to the store on wednesday, sept 27th) I would had rated a five but because of the negative experience, I lowered my rating. read more

I went to Michaels today look for some fake leaves. In the artificial flower dept. they had signs posted all over saying "40% off all greenery". The signs were right next to some fake leaves I wanted. I took two bunches of them to the cash register. When the girl rang them up, the full price appeared. I told her they were supposed to be 40% off and she hesitated, then gave me 40% off the first bunch. She scanned in the second bunch and again the full price appeared. I again told her about the signs that said "40% off all greenery" and she said, "That doesn't apply to these because they are made by a different company." What nonsense. "All greenery" means all greenery. I just bought the first bunch and left. Probably I could have gotten the correct price if I'd asked for a manager, but I'd already waited in a very long line and didn't have time. This is really either bait-and-switch, or false advertising. If you shop here, be prepared to wait in a very long line, and watch to make sure you are given the correct price as they ring you up. If you don't pay attention (or even if you do), you could be overcharged. read more

One of the better Michaels in the area. They have a lot of variety, lots of scrapbooking items, a good holiday decor section. The store is usually pretty clean (which is not true of all Michaels) and they are usually well staffed (again, not true of all Michaels - don't bother with the one in Dublin!). read more

Great for framing, not much else. Stock is always low, and staff is bizarrely unhelpful. I needed some doll wings to convert to use on a hat. When I asked where I would find them, the sales person said she had no idea what doll wings were. I actually had to say that doll wings were wings, usually in lame or feathers that were sized for use on dolls-like to make angel or fairy dolls. After this explanation, the sales lady was quite angry with me. And showed me the rack of ready-made doll clothes. Not sure how else to have explained what I needed. Never heard of doll wings? In a craft store? They always had tons in stock back east. Ended up going to Jo Ann, and found several. read more

This pertains specifically to the framing department. I have used Michaels framing at a number of different locations and this one is by far the worst. The framed things that have fallen off their mounts (tape mounts) after them telling us Tape Mounts were the strongest. The remaining prints all have ripples in them due to them not be laid flat. Bringing this to their attention they said there wasn't a thing they could do. Ridiculous and awful. I will not be going back here and I suggest you avoid getting anything framed from this Michaels. read more

Great craft store! Very organized and great holiday selection. A young man named Joseph helped me and he was a great help. He helped me find everything I need and quickly too! Timing is everything..and this was my time at this wonderful store. I purchased some beads and asked about the classes. Todd, an incredible customer service representative answered all my questions and told me/showed me all the exciting classes for August. Today I returned to purchase new beads and to my wonderful surprise they had a 'free demonstration' by Linda 6-8pm. As I was the only customer that attended I had individual, knowledgeable and fun learning session regarding making chains and creating professional earrings. Again timing is everything and if you have the time to take full advantage of the wonderful professional customer service and attend demonstrations/paid classes from Linda, I know you won't be disappointed. She truly is a wonderful, kind, dedicated and patient person. read more

I like the layout of this store. will come back again =) -People There~ The workers and tje manger all very nice. This place is great for kids. I bring my daughter here and we sometimes just walk around and she enjoys looking and it is hard for her to decide on what she wants. From time to time I come in and just get anything from the kids arts and crafts area for my daughter to be creative and make something. The employees there are also great there isn't much help in the aisles when you need it but after finding someone to help me they make sure I find what I am looking for. read more

The company offers generous benefits to anyone working forty hours per week but, in any given store, only the manager and a handful of department supervisors are permitted to put in that many hours. All others intentionally are scheduled for far less time. They don't treat their customers much better. Custom-framers are required to foist extra mattings, expensive non-glare glass, and high-end frames, whether or not they suit the artwork in question, on people relying on their professional opinions. Those who fail to meet weekly quotas are subject to reprimands and, eventually, dismissal. As for the rest of the merchandise, most of it is poor quality and over-priced. Fanatic scrapbookers and other arts-and-craftsy types are urged to bring their business elsewhere. read more

The only reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars is because of an employee name Sam. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have written a review at all. He was very helpful. He suggested we do bulk order next time since we bought a lot of the same thing. He also mentioned to us the business account here at Michael's. I didn't even know that existed. I ended up saving a lot more than I expected. Sam was defiantly a great help to us. read more

This place blows my funky lil' mind. I would never have guessed that scrapbooking is such a huge hobby and involves so many accoutrements like baptismal outfits that only a field mouse can fit in. Michael's certainly stimulates my inner cat hoarder who wears big 80s plastic glasses frames and sweatshirts with cartoon cats that say something like "I don't do mornings!" and acid wash mom jeans and puffy white sneakers and bad highlights in my hair and use Precious Moments personal checks. It sounds condescending and patronizing, but I do find that kind of mom culture fascinating...and forward in a Vice "do's" sorta way. But in reality, I do own a cat shirt that says "I don't do mornings!" and did, at one time, have Precious Moments checks. And I do enjoy buying a bucket of puffy Christian-themed stickers to give out to people so they will have to keep second guessing who the hell I am. I also love that Michael's has a really good selection of paint-by-numbers kits. Nothing beats making an effortless painting of snow leopard babies as a rainy day activity. And man, have you checked out the wedding aisle? You can definitely throw an awesome trailer park wedding courtesy of Michael's. Michael's is perhaps the antithesis of the arty, practical store like Flax, but I find it to be cooler and more fascinating; so much so that I can never resist picking up something ridiculous. And who is this Michael person anyway? He must have an awesome life scrapbooking and painting by numbers and decorating wedding cakes. read more
