If you are looking for a more upscale meal but in a casual environment, this fits the bill. We went during lunch and I was very impressed with the appetizers and desserts. We had the bubble bread, which was excellent, the lobster roll, which was okay, the key lime pie and the sticky toffee pudding, which were both delicious. I wasn't expecting much from the key lime pie because I haven't found key lime pie outside of Key West that's on that level, but this one far exceeded my expectations. My wife and I had the privilege of dining at Michael's a week ago, we were anticipating a wonderful dinner and were definitely not disappointed. Our server, Jenna, suggested a really nice cabernet to start off and was very helpful in directing us on the many wonderful choices. The dining room was crowded but the volume was very pleasant and the temp was just right too. I chose the Steak Diane and it was fantastic. My wife chose the grilled scallops and mixed vegetables. We asked that she get her's with no seasoning, especially black pepper, as she suffers from a terrible case of acid reflux and gastritis. Unfortunately, she found black pepper in her food, which was probably from the grill. She tried to wipe it off but found a little more. Jenna, our server, quickly spotted her doing that and asked her if there was something else that she could get for her. My wife selected another entree and was able to safely eat it:) Not only did Jenna do an amazing job but soo did the managers who personally came out to deliver the food and were very empathetic to the situation. We wished we lived closer so that we could visit more, but we will definitely be back soon and highly recommend Michael's to all who enjoy great food and amazing service. read more

Came here because a coworker of mine recommended their crab cakes! We had to try them being the crab cake fanatics that we are, and we must say... 8/10!!! Nice crisp on the outside, very filling on in the inside, with enough flavor that you don't need any sauce for them! The calamari was a huge portion and very crispy!! With this app, I'd actually prefer the sauces on the side for dipping! The risotto sounded so good on the menu, I asked the waitress for a small side just to try! So good! With all the 5 star reviews and knowing & hearing about this place throughout the years, I was very disappointed on our recent dinner here at Michael's Grill. Prices were very high and expensive. Nothing inexpensive or a good deal on the menu. And for the ambience of the restaurant and the quality of the food; this left a "bad taste" for the wallet. Me and my dad got the Pork Tenderloin Diane. It came with very little of the actual pork - a few small pork slices - and quality wasn't the best. Overcooked too. The dijon sauce wasn't bad but was odd and didn't really go well with the pork. The two sides that came with the dish were mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. They were both boring and bland. The mashed potatoes tasted like it was insta-potatoes from a bag and the mixed vegetables tasted like it came from a can or frozen bag. My wife got the Wasabi Crusted Tuna. That was actually pretty good but for $52, it should be better than pretty good. The side was rice pilaf and was bland not seasoned and again tasted like it came from a bag or box. Bar tenders need to be mindful of who is lounging and drinking at their bar. There was a girl at the bar that was clearly way too intoxicated but was still being fed cocktails by the bartender. She was shouting loudly on her phone including; f-bombs and other curse words for everyone to hear. Her feet and legs were all over the bar stools next to her and I was afraid at any moment that a bad and nasty scene might occur before we finished our dinner. This was not a good scene for my 3 year-old son and 83 year-old father to be around for a nice family dinner. read more

A Carrollwood institution, Michael's never fails to please. It's my go-to spot for lunch or dinner when I seek fine dining in an elegant yet unfussy close-by spot. I've attended many private parties in their lovely side room; their expanded outdoor seating is comfortable under most conditions. Food is beautifully prepared and presented: and I've had several pleasant surprises here, most recently the best conch fritters I've had outside of Nassau. Can recommend the crab cakes, salmon, (most any fish or seafood) and their filets. Desserts can be epic, whether their key lime pie or their bread pudding...yum! Service is as I appreciate it: friendly, knowledgeable, aiming to please and never stuffy. read more

The food is amazing! We came here for our 35th wedding anniversary and it didn't disappoint. Complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate. It was an app kind of celebration. Conch fritters, deep fried Brie, New Orleans shrimp, and bubble bread (one Caesar and one house salad for our veggies!!) were all delicious. Michael's is a small spot that provides North Tampa with the best upscale food in the whole area. While a hidden gem, I would argue that Michael's is comparable, if not much better, than The more well-known steakhouses of Tampa such as Bern's and Meat Market. The salmon is always delicious. We have been going to Michael's Grill for many years and it definitely earns a solid four stars. The service and staff are very attentive. The food is consistently great. I sometimes ask for variations like extra mushrooms or a shrimp cocktail off the menu. Not a problem! But like all quality establishments, it takes constant work to maintain consistent quality...like that door that is a customer entry way which has been missing a handle for months. I have only been to Michael's grill one other time, which was several years ago, and was very impressed, but don't live close enough to come back. So I chose it for my son's graduation lunch as we were staying in an Airbnb nearby. Reservations were easy, service was great. However the lunch menu items were not impressive. I had the chicken pesto sandwich, which was dry. My father had the patty melt and wasn't impressed. The only guests in my party that really liked their meal were the ones who ordered the pasta. My husband and I took our adopted-Tampa mom to this restaurant on a Saturday night, made reservations, and sat outside. The restaurant was hustling and bustling. Everyone looked like they were enjoying their time. We were the only table sitting outside, which is a great option during Covid. Unfortunately, the patrons of the restaurant and wine bar next door go outside to smoke cigarettes, and my clothes and hair smell of smoke. Something to keep in mind if you were to eat outside. My partner and I live in South Tampa/Downtown area, so we NEVER eat in Carrollwood, but our adopted mom lives down the street so wanted to try somewhere nearby her instead of our tried and trues. Now to the food. Appetizers: House salad- It's a house salad. Conch Fritters- Comes with 5 fritters on a sweet sauce and some arugula, the sauce is a little sweet. Nothing noteworthy, some of the fritters seemed like they didn't have any conch that was distinguishable from the batter. Crab Cakes- The waiter recommended the crab cakes, 2 cakes per order about the size of a child's fist. There was some lump crab in the cakes. However, it was quite salty. I was confused as to why the pineapple was on the side. I thought it was a little odd that it was not placed on top of the crab cakes. Not the best crab cakes, but not the worse. Entrees: Sea Bass Special-My husband thinks the sea bass was good, but the sauce was unremarkable. Tai Chicken-My adopted mom enjoyed her chicken, it was her second time ordering it. All the entrees came with a side of vegetables. Some were overcooked, but some were nice and al dente. Ribeye Steak-Truly disappointed with the 12oz steak. The sauce for the steak was quite sweet. Yes, there was a sauce. To be honest, I know the steak was only 12 oz, but it was the thinnest piece of steak I have had in decades. It was tender and not overcooked. It was extremely unremarkable and there was a 1" by 1" piece of fat. A steak should be nicely marbled with fat, but not such a huge chunk. I do not believe it was worth $44. For a little more money, I would have had a nicer and higher-quality rib eye at Ocean Prime. Desserts: Sticky Toffee Pudding-There was nothing sticky about it, the cake was crumbly and slightly dry. Vanilla Creme Brulee-Wasn't remarkable, but not bad. Drinks: Manhatten- Too sweet, it came in a martini glass, which is classic. Old Fashion- Too sweet, it came with a bunch of ice cubes. I am accustomed to drinking an old-fashioned with a large single ice cube. Minor notes: Had to ask for new utensils because the plate and fork were not quite clean, and still had food stuck to it. I know it happens. I am quite aware that this is a neighborhood restaurant in Carrollwood and I should try not to compare it to other restaurants in South Tampa. However, the cost of dinner could have been better spent for the same amount of food and better quality elsewhere like Ocean Prime, On Swann, or Elevage. Maybe I should have kept our other reservations at Iavarone's instead of Michael's Grill. read more

Just had an excellent lunch here with my wife. She had the Walnut grilled chicken salad and i had the salmon and grilled artichoke salad. Both were very tasty. We also each had a cup of their she crab bisque which had great flavor and a good amount of crab meat in it. The only reason i didnt do 5 stars was prices are a bit high we thought. Good service, and a quaint little place. Recommend trying it if you havent, this was our first time here and i will be back. read more

Have you ever had one of those lazy Sunday mornings, where life gets it right... and everything goes perfectly? I had one of those today! Woke up with my cat snuggling me, purring like crazy and that put a smile on my face right away. Felt good getting up... that first mug of good coffee, and looking outside and seeing what looks like the start of a beautiful day? Feeling mellow and lazy, and decide to go out to breakfast instead of cooking. Yelp some breakfast spots, and decide on Michael's Grill... a place I have long had bookmarked, but had not tried yet. Yelp states open at 8am... and we were there at 8:30am! When we pulled up... I noticed the sign said they did not open until 9am. Oh well, kick back and read some Kindle for a bit... but then someone walks out, and waves us in! So in we go... and are met by a lovely lady with a British accent, who made us feel very welcome... even if we were early! We were seated, and just admiring the decor... lovely little place indeed! There was a fresh rose and a lit candle for a centerpiece... My girlfriend and I were the only ones in the entire restaurant... and it was sort of "Romantic"! ;) We were asked if we would like coffee, and it was mentioned that they have it custom roasted and ground locally. I normally abhor most restaurant coffee... so hesitated, but then went with it. I am glad I did... it was the best coffee I have had in the Tampa Bay area, that I had not made myself. So off to a wonderful start already. Taylor was our server, and she was awesome... friendly, attentive but not obtrusive. She gave us menus, and brought water and the wonderful coffee mentioned above, and then gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted. We both ordered the same item... Biscuits and Gravy, with some Eggs. Our hostess mentioned that Michael makes a delicious Hollandaise Sauce, so I asked for a side of that with my eggs... because you don't find good Hollandaise Sauce everyday! While waiting for the food, I noticed that the daily menu had Peach Fritters on it... and had to try those. So I ordered some. Then Michael (the chef) came out and introduced himself, and mentioned that the fritters were ready right now if we wanted those prior to the rest of the food. I said "Yes please!" and so we split an order (fresh and hot) while waiting for the main course. They were wonderful... hot, cinnamon and peachy goodness! The Biscuits and Gravy arrived... and the biscuits are some of the best I have had. My girlfriend actually said they reminded her of the ones her Grandmother made, and that she makes (and those are damn good biscuits!)... and yes, they were that good. Huge and fluffy, and a nice buttery crust. Delicious... as was the gravy! The eggs were perfect.. and the Hollandaise was very nice, lemony and rich! Because Michael's is a chameleon. --- --- --- What I really like about Michael's is that it can range from: -A place I call in a with a to-go order. -A fairly casual spot to grab a burger. -A date-night destination. Maybe it's a product of being in Florida, where almost any restaurant can be considered casual, but Michael's is a great hybrid. It's far from stuffy or pretentious, but the lighting is dim, which means it's automatically good enough for an anniversary dinner, right? My first appearance was via option #1 - a to-go order. I got the burger, and it was very solid. It was definitely a place I wanted to visit again. So I brought the fiance for dinner shortly after. I had the strawberry fields salad with salmon, as well as some she-crab soup. It was another solid meal, without much to complain about... except one thing. My fiance had a very similar order, and our bill ended up at $76 after tip. It just did not feel like a meal worth that that price tag. While we did not dislike anything we ate, it wasn't something I'd rave to my friends as a place that everybody must visit. For $76, it just felt a little steep. read more

The restaurant itself is very cute, and the staff are very nice. I think we must have just gone on an off night sadly, as most of the reviews are positive, which is why we tried it out for my birthday. The drinks were very bland, and my martini was served in a chipped glass that I almost cut my lip on. When we first sat down, our waitress said she had just put bread in the oven, and she would bring it out shortly. She never brought any bread. We got the calamari and one of the shrimp appetizers. Calamari was good but the shrimp wasn't hot or cold. It was room temperature. The fish entree tasted like biting into a lemon, and the blackberry duck sauce was a very sharp and off putting flavor, very unexpected for a blackberry sauce. We both barely touched our entrees because they weren't very good, and our waitress did not do any inquiry when she asked if we wanted boxes, and we said no, sending back almost the entirety of both meals.
