Best restaurant around this area hands down! I have been to the the lake of the ozarks several times over the years and have always been disappointed in the quality of the restaurants until now! They have an excellent wine list paired with great service. We enjoyed the best prime rib ever! We had 11 in our party and everyone who had the prime rib loved it. Great filet as well. Ever stark was perfectly prepared. Not only do they have great food and service, but they have the best views of the lake. We will certainly return to sample more of this hidden gem soon. read more

The food is beyond the normal description. Prime Rib was top tier. Filet was amazing as well. Do not skip the lobster bites! They melt in your mouth. The service is amazing too. If you're lucky enough to be sat in Richards section, you're in for hands down some of the best service you'll ever receive. Since the days we visited as Swiss Village in the 80's and still today as Michaels Chalet...the fabulous view overlooking the lake never disappoints! This was our third visit this season and it was once again over the top! Olivia was awesome last night as was Richard on a previous occasion. Our filets were cooked perfectly medium rare and the prime rib, tuna and salmon have been great too! Our decision to request outside seating before the rain added to our enjoyment and the staff was very accommodating moving us to an inside window table when the weather forced us back inside for our entrees. The tasty anniversary desserts (molten brownie and turtle cheesecake) were the perfect ending to a memorable night! Thank you Olivia...we are definitely "singing" your praises today! read more

Amazing. Definitely the best restaurant we tried at the lake all week. The atmosphere and view are both great. Most of the patrons were seated outside, which was very charming, but we opted to be inside. This worked out very well because we basically had the dining room to ourselves. To find the place, you wind down a residential road. It really seems like there's no way there will be a restaurant at the end of the path, but keep going and trust your GPS! The martinis at the bar are very strong and well mixed. Highly recommend if you're into martinis. There is a martini flight where you can try 3 varieties in miniature for the same price as one full size. I definitely recommend arriving a little early for your reservation and venturing down the stairs to visit the bar for a drink. I had the 8 ounce filet and it was cooked to perfection and very high quality. My wife had the prime rib from which I was lucky to steal several bites. Very delicious. The medium still was pretty medium rare, which was great for me since I like my steaks rare, but be advised if you're squeamish about your red meat being red. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was a winner, too. The baked potato and twice-baked potato were both gigantic. We had plenty to take home as even the smaller cuts of prime rib were plenty for most of our party. read more

Started off with the stuffed mushrooms caps. Small pieces of lobster in spinach with a cheese baked on top. Was served warm and very nice. The prime rib was very good, sauce very tasty. But the salad was all iceberg lettuce with a slice of cucumber. Yech. And the vegetables here are always overcooked and mushy. So if the meat is all you care about This is the place to go read more

We made reservations on Saturday night for 4 at 7:30 for a window table. We arrived at 6:30 so we could enjoy a glass of wine in the wine bar while we waited for our table. We were greeted by a scruffy looking guy in a blue shirt (who we since found out was the owner). We told him we would be downstairs, he then came down 5 minutes later and said your table is ready. I told him our reservation is not until 7:30, he then said, well it's ready now and if you don't want it, it might not be available later for you. He was being pushy and we felt rushed. We told him that we made our reservation at 7:30pm and he just shrugged. Needless to say, we took the table because we did not want our night to be ruined! The reason we made reservations for 7:30 is because those tables are too hot until sun starts setting! We ordered a $225 bottle of Dom Perignon. A young gentleman brought it to our table lukewarm, opened it and placed it on the table next to us, letting it get even warmer! I was about to refuse it when someone came by and I complained about it being warm. After another 5 minutes they bought out an ice bucket with a little ice in it. We all poured our ice waters in the bucket in the attempt to cool it down as it was very hot in the restaurant. Two waitresses apologized for the young gentleman stating that he was from the Netherlands and that he was not properly trained. This is no excuse for this. I feel the scruffy guy (Owner) needs to educate himself and staff on serving expensive wine/champagne and he needs to treat his customers with a little more respect... Also, they must have more consideration for the time of their reservations! They said they might not have tables available at the time we made a reservation, yet, there were 4 open tables at 7:30 pm and later. We felt they were trying to rush us in and out and not cater to a wonderful dinner experience. I cannot say I will not go there again, as the food was excellent and our waiter was excellent! The Prime Rib was excellent, marinated and cooked for several hours on low eat. Finished on the grill, char grilled on each side. The Filet was decent, way too marinated. The flavor had a salty soy sauce type of taste. Would prefer to see a dry rub. Ordered the escargot for appetizer and was pretty good, our server was very polite and prompt. We sat outside and was a beautiful day, lots of bugs though, goes with the territory. What was really disappointing was the sides, the garlic mashed potatoes were instant!! Why use instant potatoes with such an expensive meal? The stewed green beans were from a can! Final thoughts, if you are going to eat prime rib, then you should try it, but be prepared the sides are terrible. For the price I would expect homemade mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. read more

We have had 1 really good experience our first time here and 2 really terrible. Female server was awful and rude. Prime Rib (my favorite) was a terrible cut and severely undercooked as i could not even cut it. I explained this and was lectured on how it should look and that's how it always is (not my first rodeo-but thanks). They threw it in some sauce and brought it back on the same plate. While the view from Michael's is stunning, I was overall displeased with the quality of my meal. I went here with my family for dinner and we all had a variety of menu options. Their halibut and salmon were delicious, but were very small portions. None of the portions were what I had expected for the price. The salad that came with the meal was just a tiny pile of lettuce with hardly any toppings (I found one olive and two slices of mushroom total). They also had very skimpy portions of their sides... and the vegetable side was horrible. The coffee for dessert came with prepackaged creamer (which is ridiculous at a fine dining restaurant) and the cheesecake was not very good. If you want to pay for the view, go to Michael's, otherwise I would head elsewhere. read more

What a great experience! The patio atmosphere is so lovely with a fantastic view of the lake. My husband can't stop raving about their filet mignon - said it was the BEST steak he has ever had. He says it would be worth the 3 hour drive to have that steak every day. I ordered the blackened tuna and it was AMAZING! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lake of the Ozarks. We are just now leaving this restaurant as I type this. The food was good. The view was lovely. But, we seemed to be lacking our waitstaff. To us, this is an important element of the overall experience of dining out, which we love To do. We were looking forward to dessert, but our waiter was MIA for pretty much the entire time we were there. We waited and waited, gave up on dessert and drinks, and waited and waited some more for our check. I told my Husband, maybe just go pay at the hostess desk, he said "we don't look forward to a nice dinner out to go pay at the desk on the way out".....so, no dessert, spent the evening wondering where our waitstaff was, which is too bad. We really loved the location of our table and we were looking forward to more evenings there. But, I left feeling forgotten and the restaurant was left with no revenue that the dessert and after dinner drinks would Have brought. We enjoy dining out, sorry we got forgotten and had to leave. I'm floored that there are no reviews for this. Holy smokes, if you are in the area and looking for a nice dinner, you have to visit!! My boyfriend and I were at the lake for my birthday, looking for a place to get a good steak and decided on this place by the outlet mall. It had a meaty, dark exterior, so we thought it would be good. So, we went back to the hotel, got ready and drove there. After arriving, we realized there was no one in the parking lot and there was a sign on the door that they were closed. Bummer. But, a glimmer of light came with the elusive offer of visiting a restaurant owned by them, just a few miles down the road. We then set off on an adventure down what looked to be rural roads. Slowly, we see the architecture begin to change reminding me of my Norwegian ancestry. Are we in another country?!? A small village, perhaps? No, we have arrived at Michael's Steak Chalet. We were seated outside on the luxurious, beautiful patio immediately. I have not been impressed with a view like this (in Missouri) in quite a long time. It was set just off the water, lined with trees and provided a beautiful atmosphere for watching the sunset and enjoying dinner. Our server was prompt and quickly brought us a bottle of wine. (note: don't get a bottle of wine... Will explain later.) As we enjoyed the crisp white, we decided to try the crab Rangoon as an appetizer. Weird, right? But sooo creamy and good. The sauce was probably the best part. Not your traditional sweet and sour, it was a plum sauce that was sweet and tangy without being overbearing. After finishing that, we ordered our meals. I got a filet and he got the prime rib, both of which come with soup or salad and potato or vegetable. (coming back to the wine part now...) Somewhere between ordering and receiving our food, the wine ran dry. Yeah, I know, kind of lushes, but it was my birthday! Anyway, coming out o my scenery coma, I realized that the people surrounding us had pitchers of a delicious looking substance with floating raspberries and strawberries. After inquiring about it, we discovered it was their homemade champagne. Needless to say, we had to try it. It was SO freaking good. Try it, try it, try it! Dinner was delicious and after finding out it was my birthday, we were offered a free dessert. It goes without saying that we clearly indulged but it was well worth it. Seriously, everything was phenomenal. If you're in the area and looking to gain a few lbs but to have a great time doing it, you have to visit. This place use to be my favorite place at the Lake, however this last time on my birthday was a disaster. From handing out the wrong menus to screwing up the bill the night was terrible. Throw in a 16 oz steak that looked like the heal of my shoe and you have my meal. I got a better and bigger steak the next morning with two eggs and hashbrowns and that didnt cost 40 dollars. Dont know what happen. Not sure i can afford to give it another try. It sure took the fireworks out of Memorial Day weekend. read more

Michaels is one of the hidden jewels of this area. With the new highway...can be difficult to find (use the round-about off of KK), but so worth it. We have been going there for years for all occasions. Quiet, good service and excellent food. Sit outside with a great glass of wine, or better yet, a martini! We've never had a bad meal there. The baked sweet potato is a nice change...the prime rib...excellent. Dress is business casual. read more

Linda and I ate at Michael's this evening. We split the 18oz prime rib. The service? Friendly and helpful. The food? Prime rib was a good as you might wish. For dessert? The carrot cake with cinnamon ice cream was a perfect complement. Overall, Micheal's is a good place to eat, but it is pricey. If you aren't scared off by sticker price, this is a nice place for dinner. I cannot fathom how one person could eat a 14 oz or 18 oz piece of prime rib--maybe I am just not big enough. read more

The food was pretty good. My wife had a filet that was perfectly cooked. I had halibut. The halibut was pan-seared but was coated and the seasonings overpowered the fish (my opinion). Our real issue was the very long wait for food. It took almost 90 minutes to get our food. For the price, they can do better. The (?) manager made the rounds at some of the tables, apologizing, but he didn't stop at ours. I'm not saying we won't go back, but we will certainly try other places around the lake before we do. Have been to Michael's Chalet several times in the past and the service and Prime Rib was good. But this was our last time! I made reservations for 5 people several days in advance for 7:00 p.m.. We were greeted and seated promptly. The waitress was polite but not attentive. Since we had cocktails before dinner we all ordered water. (which had some little bugs in the first glass) not a big deal. We ordered right away and then the wait began. We waited and waited for some time before our salads came out with no bread or crackers. I wish I could say that was the worst part but it was not. We had all ordered steaks and baked potatoes. The waitress came back and tells us they do not have enough Steaks/Prime Rib and could 3 people make another choice. I so wish we had just left at that time. So we re-ordered and waited and waited. Not even offered a appetizer while we waited. The waitress said we were the only people that had made reservations and they did not expect to be busy. Really 12 people inside and a few outside is busy? So don't bother to make a reservation is what that tells me. We had a very, very long wait for our dinners and never saw a manager to complain to. We had to ask a bus person to please find our waitress for the check and then when she arrived she cleared the table before getting the check. It was a very long bad dining experience. This was embarrassing and awkward since we choose this place for our out of town guest business dinner. So it's back to Baxter's, Bentley's or Out Back. Very Disappointing! read more

While the food was good, I can hardly recommend anyone spend their hard earned money here. Our 2 1/2 hour ordeal, on a Sunday night mind you, has me writing this place off for good. The lowlights included: dinner dishes which were never cleared from the table, a 25 minute wait for the check, $40 worth of drinks we didn't have on the bill, another check wait, zero service after food delivery, off color masterbation comments by the waiter, and the list goes on. I had to stand by the table by myself just to get the manager to notice we wanted out. By far this was the worst service I have ever experienced at what is supposed to be a good place.
