Heard about this place from a friend. This place was packed. It's a teeny tiny sit down Italian place with such cute decor. We dressed up a little and had ourselves an early valentines date here. Service is friendly but a bit on the slow size. 4 mins for them to bring my husband a coke that's 10 steps away from the bar to us. Uhh okay that's fine. Salad that came with entree was okay. Tasted a bit like Caesar dressing and I am a vegetarian, so I didn't eat the rest of it. Still don't know the what the house made vinaigrette dressing was, hoping it was just mustardy and that I am too paranoid. Bread was good that they gave the table, warm and kept its warmth until our entire arrived. My husband loved his fettuccine Alfredo, tasted fresh and didn't sit in the stomach heavy either. Amazing! I had the eggplant parmigiana, the tomato sauce was VERY good. The eggplant was interesting. A gooey and squishy mess. Maybe that's the traditional way, I was expecting some crispiness to it. Tasted fine and like battered cheesy eggplant. At least it didn't taste oily. The pasta was light and fresh though. I would certainly come back here but I would get something else. We generally enjoyed our dinner at Michelina's a few Saturdays ago. Michelina DiSibio's place is another one of those family run restaurants that seem to be disappearing (see her story). The food is wonderful, but on the Saturday we visited, they were short staffed. The big, big difference however was our buser, who kept track of our water glasses, refilling them and the bread basket whenever she noticed they was getting low. What an incredibly nice person, too. We were seated in lower dinning area and there was only two severs for fifteen tables. The food is clearly made from loving DiSibio family recipes that we found delicious. The three of us started off with some wine and bruschetta. For our entrées we ordered Linguine and Meatballs in a Garlicky marinara sauces ($16.99), Stuffed Shells ($17.99) and a creamy Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken added($14.99 + $4.00). BUT, we saved room for dessert, because they have some outrageously delicious offerings. As you can see from my pictures, we had Tiramisu, Cheese Cake and Chocolate Mousse Cake. Ahhhhh, delicious! Since this was my spouse's B-Day celebration, we went a little overboard, but it was her day, right? And, we had a great time of it. I've been coming to Michelina's for as long as I can remember. We have celebrated tons of birthdays, anniversaries, good grades, good news, and many other special occasions. I think that's because Michelina makes her restaurant feel like home. It's so beautiful and cozy while also filling you up with warmth. We discovered this little gem tonight. The atmosphere was classic family-run Italian. The service was exemplary and the food was very good. The meal started with warm, crusty bread... and a plentiful amount of it at that. The wife had the escargot appetizer that she just loved. The salads were very good... usually not worth mentioning, but in this case they were wonderful adorned with olives and beets. We each had something different, from a pork chop special to pappardelle to chicken Parmesan. All plates were cleaned before we dove in to our ice cream desserts. So why just four stars? I'm a bit of a pasta snob and I found that the spaghetti that came with my chicken parm was overcooked. Some people might prefer their pasta to be soft, but I'm not one of them. We will definitely be back, and maybe the pasta will be better then. Regardless, We're looking forward to trying more items from their menu. read more

We went to Michelina's to celebrate a birthday, prior to making the reservation, I didn't see many reviews on Yelp that addressed the food... so, three of the folks in our party agreed the food was very good. However, my wife had a Veal dish, and the meat was way over cooked - most likely because it was pounded very thin. Disappointing considering all the 5-star reviews. read more

I'd call Michelina's a "hidden gem, but it not really hidden - just a great Italian gem in a non-descript strip mall right on Hwy 51. Driven by it for years and never knew it was there - which is a shame! I always believe a good restaurant excels in four areas - menu, food (taste, presentation, quantity), service and ambiance. The menus is any-a bit above - Italian staples with not many surprises. At days end, no matter what's on the menu, it needs to taste great, and Michelina's nails it on all their entrees. I've roamed thru the menu from basic pastas to veal and chicken dishes and have never been disappointed. Only lower mark iOS add is for some pretty blah salads (including caprese) - not bad, just a bit blah. Service - has, on every occasion - ranged from enjoyable to excellent. Definitely a family deal going on and some servers who've been there for years, and it shows. Top notch. The only part where I'm going to be critical is the general ambiance. Lacking would be the best word probably, then throw in no bar and it being brutally loud, and it just leaves me wishing for something a bit more...quiet and decorated? I don't know - there's a handful of old Phoenix/Scottsdale spots that suffer from the safe issue - trying to turn a strip mall spot into an authentic Italian look and feel is challenging (I.e., Cristos), but now that I've returned 10-12 times, it obviously doesn't bother me that much. The food and service is that good! Overall, once you eat at Michelina's you'll get why it's tricky to get a reservation - legit Italian food, great service in a family-owned business. It's hands down the best Italian restaurant in phoenix by a long shot! We started with the fried calamari, which was really good. Then we ordered the eggplant Parmigian and fettuccine alfredo w chicken and that fettuccine, and that griled chicken was one of the most amazing dishes I have ever had. Have dined at Michelinas several times. Food is always good and prices are very reasonable. Only issue I have is that sometimes service is a little fast. They sometimes pick up the empty app plates and drop the main course at the same time. In and out in 45 minutes is a little quick for us. I was on the search for a good pasta place and brought my friend for her pregnancy cravings of a lasagna. She enjoyed her meal and I went with the jumbo pasta shells stuffed with spinach and ricotta. I was disappointed. After reading all the rave reviews we were looking forward to a great Italian dinner. The side salad was a small plate of chopped uncrisp and flavorless lettuce with a little ribbon of thousand island dressing squirted on with a squeeze bottle. The veal marsala was tender and tasty while the marsala was very liquid with little body and flavor. The side of angel hair pasta had a red sauce that had no flavor, needed a little oregano and garlic. It was very bland to say the least. The eggplant parma was excellent, best dish of the evening. I guess the wimpy little side salad started the whole meal off on the wrong foot. It would be so easy to do a nice little side salad that was tossed with a simple light Italian dressing and fresh organic spring mix. Stopped in at opening, 5-ish thinking we could just grab a couple seats at the bar for dinner. This place has been here for years and I'd never tried it. First off, you walk on to the overwhelming smell of sewer. So right away I'm turned off. The waiter that greeted us said they'd been dealing with it for a BIT? They were booked, no openings till 8:30pm, ok, but their bar isn't set up to have dining. But just based off that smell, I do t even want to go back. I try to visit Michelina's at least a couple of times per month. For about a year I refused to leave a review or tell anyone about this place because I love it, it is special, and I didn't want to ever have to fight for a table with you people. I decided that wasn't very nice, so here goes. This place is amazing. Food is amazing, ambience is amazing, and so is the waitstaff. I've tried many things on the menu, as well as a few specials, and I was never disappointed. Michelina cooks the food. So there. We have eaten here twice in the last two months The first time I reluctantly gave a bad review. The second time was because I was sure it was better than our first meal indicated. If anything, the second meal was worse. I'm sorry to say they won't be a third time. The restaurant is attractive, well staffed and nicely decorated. It has all the trappings of a pleasant restaurant experience, unfortunately, the food fails. It has such a good reputation. I'm sure It can recover. But there has to be a recognition that something has slipped. Sauce is the name of the game. Have been going here for years! The dimly lit restaurant immediately makes the atmosphere very high end, adding all the more to the fine dining experience. The waiters are kind, Brad and Kayla are especially wonderful! Both are very attentive, knowledgeable, and their food and drink recommendations have never disappointed.
