My family and I moved here from New York a year ago, and this is the best Italian food that we have found in the Valley! The owner is originally from Naples, Italy and treats you like family. Food was .. eh. We were excited to go because we had heard it was amazing authentic Italian. The garlic bread was literally 4 tiny pieces of bread with some cheese (9.95- excuse me?) and we only ordered that before we saw that bread is actually offered with your meal- our server never asked if we wanted bread. We only found out later when other tables were served bread. Chicken Parmesan was nothing g special - we asked for a side of spaghetti and it came with rotini pasta instead. As we were waiting we overhead TWO tables question their bill saying it didn't add up, the server told them " yes that was happening a lot" - weird since the tickets are HANDWRITTEN- we checked our bill and it was off by more than $10- the excuse" yes, that was happening a lot today" - well apparently because they can't add. Over a decade ago, I used to frequent Giuseppe's on 28th which the owner (Pasquale) sold. I remember the food being delicious and the environment being warm and welcoming. Today was not the same experience, and I won't be coming back. I asked for lemons with my water but never got any. I was craving vodka pasta or something of the sort, and Pasquale offered to make me a creamy tomato pasta which I appreciated. However, he then came back to ask what kind of pasta I wanted and I said rigatoni to which he responded, "Maybe. I'll see if I have it. I don't just have all kinds of pastas here." I was really taken back by that comment and our interactions with him overall. It just didn't feel very welcoming. That said, there appeared to be many regulars in the restaurant at this time. Pasquale was calling people by their names and visiting with guests. So maybe you just have to be in the "in" crowd for that qualify of service. Who knows. The creamy tomato pasta he made me was good, I will say that. The other dish we ordered, the chicken parmigiana, was quite tough and a bit bland. The bread and butter that were served at the start of the meal lacked flavor. The Giuseppe salad was very oily and had very little lettuce, but it was pretty good. My biggest issue was when the bill came. Pasquale came and told us we owed $40 but delivered no itemized bill. When I asked him for an itemized bill, he seemed frustrated by this request. He then proceeded to give me a bill with incorrect pricing on it that did not match the menu pricing. When I asked about that, he told me that the menu needed to be updated a while ago. It appears that the regulars are used to this experience because, as I was discussing the bill with Pasquale, a table of two got up, walked over to him, and handed him some cash, asking what they owed, to which he replied, " I don't even remember. This is good. Have a nice day." Don't get me wrong, Pasquale seems like a nice guy from the east coast and perhaps my west coast upbringing didn't prepare me for that kind of service, but the whole experience made me really uncomfortable. Take note of the many Yelp reviews that suggest asking about pricing before you order. Also note that only cash and Zelle are accepted here. No credit cards. In my opinion, the quality of the meal was not enough to justify me coming back. read more

This is like an old style Italian restaurant. The menus are under glass on the table. Very simple. A bunch of pasta dishes, a bunch of traditional Italian dishes, like eggplant, Parmesan, and some salads and desserts. We have the soup, salad, eggplant, Parmesan, and spaghetti. It was excellent. I don't remember the name of the soup, but I believe it was a traditional Italian soup with spinach, chicken stock, and egg They do not serve wine, but it is BYOB The downside is payment. They do not accept credit cards. Only cash and Zelle. Fortunately for us, I have been to an ATM a few months ago and still had cash in my wallet. This came as a surprise. My son then told me that they don't take credit card, so we were about to leave and the owner told us to sit down and eat first and figured out later. Pasquale has a great team at his restaurant. I have been twice a few items. The caprese salad is nice and fresh as it should be. I tried the Linguine Puttanesca my first time at the restaurant. So good! The second time, I had the baked ziti with meats. Also, very good. I want to try the baked ziti by itself now. The Italian sausage is divine! The meatball, amazing! Everyone is so friendly and kind - it feels like you're a part of the family. The food is amazing and made with love. If you like wine, in any other good Italian restaurant, that's half your bill...if it's mediocre wine. If it was great Italian wine, forget about it ! Decor...pictures and photos on the walls along with flags...but that's not important. What is important is clean tablecloths, just enough room between tables for your own conversation to be heard, there is a buzz- its crowded, but it's roomy enough, and the food is being prepared right next to you. It's not a visual decor, you smell everything cooking, see the dishes flying to the tables, and that's fantastic. Everything we had was on point, and we brought our own really solid wines. Our bill was embarrassingly low for what they served, and we ordered family style for the table, so we could try as much as possible. One of our group is an avid cyclist who eats 2-3 dinners on his own, and no one left hungry, and everything was excellent. The Giuseppe's salad and garlic bread were great starters, along with plates of meatballs and sausages, and they sure took the edge off. We had 2 pasta Alex's because of our cyclist, and we all had seconds. The creamy pasta Franco was another hit. The delicious Chicken and Veal Parm were smothered in cheese, but it wasn't gooey elastic cheap cheese...it was rich and smooth and delightful. And the different seafood in the Cioppino were each cooked to perfection...getting boring to write, but another big hit. The service was attentive, kept the water glasses full and the bread coming, and kept trying to change our glasses for the new bottles of wine...hey, we're professionals and can use one glass for the meal! However, what really made the experience 1 star was there was a poor homeless woman who came in asking for food. That would not have been too bad. It was how the employees handled it. The manager told her he would give her food if she would go outside. Great, right? No! They did not give her food, instead they called the police and the dishwasher drove around with a bucket of water which he threw on her. Great hole in the wall family owned Italian restaurant. Staff very friendly and inviting. What is awesome is that since they don't serve spirits, you can bring your own bottle of wine to enjoy. There is also a wine shop a few doors down where you can pick up a bottle of some amazing wine. He has wine from all over the world. The food was good, nothing exceptional but feels like a good Italian homemade meal. I will definitely come here when I'm craving pasta. I got the pasta with vegetables. I was disappointed that the vegetables weren't fresh. They look like the frozen mix you get at Costco. But other than that it was good. We are visiting from Las Vegas, and this is our first time in the area. We are here because our pup needed a surgery that is not done where we live. We have been stressed beyond belief, and decided to come here for dinner. I have to say, this turned our whole mood around!!!! First, the food was DELICIOUS authentic Italian food. I got the linguini and clams with red sauce, and my grandpa got the pork ribs Parmesan. Both entrees were great, and portions were perfect. Cioppino was fine $30 with angel hair pasta (not my favorite) but still tasty. Nothing exceptional but fine. Pasta Alex was tasty, no idea price but what one would expect to be a $20 max for a basic pasta dish. Again food was fine. Brought a bottle of wine. Tab didn't quite add up for what we had even if you price the Pasta Alex at $30. Don't think there's a cork fee but not sure about the bill for the 3 items we had. May be a one and done. Not sure. RG is a very nice, authentic Italian restaurant. After I walked in and satdown, I started feeling like I was in a neighborhood Brooklyn Italian spot or even in the Old Country Italy. The Owner, Manager Guiseppe attended to me personally and told me he's from Naples. I had pasta with beef in Bolognese sauce, bean pasta soup and a delicious cold cut Italian sub. Everything was ready and on my table in under 10 minutes. There's some nice outdoor seating but I had a nice table inside by the front window. Even though I was just looking at a Scottsdale strip shopping center; Giuseppe's does have great ambience and charm due to the Owner being a real Italian and running his place traditional, old school style. Prices by the way are very low for Italian fare that would easily cost double that in a typical chain restaurant.
