This is my favorite local store for buying computer peripherals particularly printers, external storage, and networking. The staff seem to know their products and are usually able to assist me find products that meet my needs. Their prices are usually good. They have a repair department that I have used in the past for minor repairs. I enjoy wondering around and looking at of their products. They have decent "maker" department that offers small computers like Raspberry PIs, Arduino boards, and related products. read more

I stopped in to support a local business instead of Amazon. They have a great selection but it was like I was buying a used car. From the associates wanting to put their commission stickers on items you find with or without their help to the cashier not giving your receipt to you until you give them your name, address, phone number, shoe size and blood type. I was standing in line waiting to pay for my stuff when a worker, who had many other options of where to walk, decided to completely violate social distancing mandates and walk less than 1 1/2 feet by my personal space. Went to the Apple Store first, they were out of inventory and I was told that I had to make an appointment for the next day in order to get help. Came right down the street, walked in to MicroCenter and somebody was there excited to help me. The guy answered all of my questions and made some great recommendations. If you're a PC gamer, come up here with your friends if you need some new accessories, GPU's, CPU's, Tower cases, they have it all. Such an awesome atmosphere as well. I went to Microcenter to buy a Joystick controller that was sold out at Best Buy. They said they would match prices with Best Buy. I even check with store Employee who said they would match prices. I even called before I left to check If they had the item and it was in stock. At the register the Store supervisor said they would not be able to match a a sold out item. I would have given them a 4 or a 5. But they sold me a new PC with an invalid / illegal copy of Windows. I wanted to call. No accessible phone number. Sent email. No response. Logged into chat. I was number 16 on line. 90 minutes later I was 8th in line when they kicked me out to start over at 20th in line. I need to speak to a manager and get a legal copy of Windows on my brand new PC. Great service, very fast turn around time. I brought in my MacBook during this pandemic and they were able to get my screen fixed in less than a week. They also updated me almost everyday to let me know where they were in the process. Would def recommend! read more

I am someone who frequently gives praise or critique to businesses who I have interactions with and do so often; And I have to say my experience with Micro Center displayed some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. In short, this company refused to maintain consistent or even adequate communication and failed to provide any services that were remotely beneficial. I essentially paid this company $50 to hold onto my laptop for 1.5 months, to complete absolutely nothing. I dropped a computer off for repair on September 1st, and was told it would take 2 weeks to receive an update. After 2.5 weeks I contacted them, and was told they needed more information from their parts supplier. After another 2 weeks I contacted this company again for an update and was told only my assigned technician could assist me yet he was out for lunch; but would contact me, by phone, with an hour. 5 hours after that I was contacted to again, be told they needed more information from the supplier. I than contacted them a week later, on Saturday, October 3rd for yet another update. During this call I was told my laptop would need to be sent off to be repaired pending my approval, which was given, and was told my computer would be sent out on Monday, October 5th. I contacted them again today Sunday, October 11th and was told my computer was still in their possession, a week after it should have been sent for repairs. Christian, and Micro Center displayed zero customer service, and a severe lack of initiative. I would not recommend their repair services to anyone. read more

Very irritated by how they handle rebates. I purchased over $500 of equipment, which qualified me for $40 in rebates. At time of checkout I asked the person doing the transaction, several times "so these papers are all I need for the rebates?" Each time he said yes. I don't do this often and have never dealt with mail in rebates. I put all my receipts and rebate forms aside, and build my computer. Then I clean up, because who leaves empty boxes around. A few days later I go to do the rebates. Turns out you need the boxes with original UPC codes. The guy specifically said all I needed were the forms, that's why I asked like 8 times. I called the store, and they gave me the number for ASUS, which was actually their product support number, with no option to discuss rebates or payments. Do not trust anything their staff tells you. Unless they can get me a $40 visa gift card, then there's no way to fix this issue. I feel robbed. read more

On 10/1/2020 I went to pick up a spool of PETG filament I had reserved. After driving an hour I was told that a substitution had been made, which wasn't acceptable. A manager told me that they can't inform customers of substitutions. There's something seriously wrong if employees can hand stamp a document displaying all of the customer's contact information indicating a substitution has been made but can't notify the customer that a substitution needs to be made. I'm not calling the manager a liar but he was definitely Shady! read more

We were appalled by Jiri's unprofessional behavior on Tuesday evening. He was offensive and argumentative. He took every possible opportunity to mock my friend about the need to buy a laptop from him and not to access the Micro Center website, as my friend was "looking at just the price" and didn't know anything about computers. When Jiri was confronted about why he was being so offensive to customers, he said "you are not customers yet." Jiri made sure to let us know he does not consider patrons of Micro Center customers unless they make a purchase. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a customer is anyone that walks in to the store with the intention of purchasing from a business. I don't know how Jiri was trained, but we will not return to this store because of Jiri's unprofessional and combative behavior. read more

My laptop needed repair and I wanted to take it to Microcenter. According to their website, they have a quick drop off counter, where you make an appointment on line, then just drop of the computer and go. Well, I made the appointment and went to Microcenter to drop it off. When I arrived, I discovered that they had stopped quick drop off and I had to wait in the regular service line. That line had about 12 people waiting to be taken care of 1 associate. This is outrageous. I turned around, complained and left. I will not go back, EVER, to Microcenter. read more

I came in to buy myself a computer and one for my brother that was planning on visiting for his birthday. I thought it would be fun for us to build them together since he is becoming more interested in tech. I went through the whole process of picking out parts outside of the store and came in and went over the list with a sales representative who assured everything would work together. Then when I had told them I wanted a second build for my brother, they told me it wouldn't be possible to buy two computers. I had picked out two completely different builds (motherboard, cpu, etc, all different) as I had seen many items said limit one per customer. Nowhere does it say someone can't buy two DIFFERENT models of anything. At any given time you are limited to buying exactly one computer fan or cpu? Doesn't make any sense to me. After speaking with the manager and waiting about 30 minutes of him walking around the store doing i'm not sure what, he made an exemption for what shouldn't be a big deal to begin with. On top of all this, one of the builds DIDN'T actually work together properly with the case we discussed, despite what the sales rep had assured me. I spent about $1000 here in this trip alone, and I would never recommend this place or go here for anything more than a couple dollars again in my life again. read more

Extremely poor customer service. I recently purchased every product I needed to build a PC online from Micro Center and when I went to the store to pick it up, I couldn't get one sales person to give me the proper customer service. When I made my build online I realized that I needed some thermal paste for my build so as I went on my search I asked a sales person which one they recommended. The sales person basically told me to get the same one that everyone gets which in my case was not what I was looking for with my computer needs. I was looking for a slightly better that average paste and the sales person didn't seem to care. He didn't even care to listen to what kind of PC I was building to make sure I was getting one that will support the heat. In my frustration, I just walked away and grabbed a thermal paste and headed to the online checkout counter. The clerk handed me my items and began to charge me and he saw that I had a large amount of thermal paste, he offered me one that was smaller but that I would have to go find it. At this point I would expect someone to escort me to the right product since I was spending a large amount of money on this build but, as the clerk flagged down a sales person and informed him of what I was looking for the sales person basically agreed with him and told me to just go back to the thermal paste area and you'll find it there. I was extremely surprised by the lack of customer service. You can tell that these people work completely on commission because no one wanted to give me the time of day unless I was buying something specially from them. I even had a hard time asking where the bathroom was, the sales person just said it's in the back, and waved me off like he had better things to do than tell a customer where the bathroom was. I highly recommend this place for online pick up only. If you are looking for a car salesmen and want someone to push sales on you then this is the place to go. The only time I got customer service is when the clerk wanted to sell me warranty on all my products, at this point I didn't want to give Micro center another dime. Sure is a shame because I was getting tired of buying PC parts from home I guess this is why you don't see much computer stores any more. No genuine customer service. read more

I went to ask for a specific video card and they treated me like I was about to rob the place. Two reps approached me very rudely and told me that the only way to get the video cards is by camping outside starting at 4 pm the day before shipment. I told them that I was just asking that there was no need to treat me like that and they just said "Listen lady we are not selling you a video card, you need to wait outside". Very sad to see that they think they are the best thing out there, I've never been treated like that anywhere. Never going back. read more

My BF and I came here originally to buy a surge protector last week, and were browsing the iPads and Apple pencil. Since they were a couple bucks off here ($30), we deliberated all week on whether or not we should each get one as a treat. We decided to treat ourselves and came in today. We waited until another gentleman was done purchasing the same iPad (with ZERO issues), and then told the salesman (think his name was Mohammed) we'd like to each buy one (their rule is 1 per household...my BF and I do not live together). He literally took one look at us, said we've bought ipads from there before (we have not...), and was adamant he would not sell them to us without manager approval. We were super confused and agreed to run it by the manager, thinking it was a simple misunderstanding...that the manager would be able to run our info and confirm that we hadn't purchased any Apple products in the past. Well the manager never came, but the guy kept arguing with us and saying it was their policy...which we would have understood, if only he asked us for ANY info to verify our past purchases. He was super aggressive, and kept talking over us...though we were trying to simply clear things up. Another salesman ended up helping us, who was helpful and apologetic and explained they've had trouble with resellers "from other countries" purchasing ipads for resale. So basically we were racially profiled (I'm middle eastern, BF is Asian) and treated like criminals...just because we wanted to purchase iPads. What was supposed to be a fun shopping experience was just incredibly stressful, humiliating, and had me close to tears. All this to say, we only saved $30 buying our iPads from Micro Center. I would have gladly spent $30 more and avoided this whole fiasco at target/walmart/Apple. Not coming back here again. We were so stressed we forgot to get the Apple pencils, and had a much better experience buying the pencils from Target with less hassle. I still build my own PCs and have been since the 90's. I really like that this store maintains that 90s feel too. What's really amazing though are the motherboard/cpu deals, people drive across state lines to Microcenters for these deals. They're unbeatable to this day. I wouldn't recommend putting together an entire PC build here but definitely consider getting the mobo & cpu. It's also a great store to have nearby if you need something immediately and can't wait for a delivery. read more

The store touts itself as the Fry's of the East Coast, but this location falls short of that distinction. It is small, merchandise is crowded together, and somewhat in a disorganized heap. You can find items of a similar theme in a general area, but the hobbyist area is somewhat disorganized-- I had to dig through the LEDs in order to find the colors that I needed, and the jumper wires were located in several areas instead of one central location. Assigning someone to really clean up that area would make things much easier on the customer. Service is usually average, but I was treated extremely poorly today. I was blatantly ignored, while my husband was acknowledged, despite me addressing the SR directly. I would like to think this was an isolated incident, but after speaking to other female engineers who have shopped at this location, this appears to be a recurring theme. If you're a woman building something, prepare to be ignored. After tonight, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Two stars because they typically carry parts that I need and I usually haven't had any issues shopping there until recently. read more

Went to Micro Center on the morning of February 2. Apparently their "network was down" so the registers were barely working. Which, first of all, doesn't even make sense; if it was down, they shouldn't work at all. Second, this is a @#$%! computer store - and they can't either maintain their network or quickly fix it? Didn't get a chance to ask anyone in the store for a better explanation, since the only employee who even bothered to interact with the long line of customers was just there to tell us we were standing in the "wrong" place and needed to move. Nor was Facebook of any help - their customer relations team only works weekdays. What a lousy experience. I rarely stop by now, but certainly won't bother at all in the future. I suspect Micro Center will soon join CompUSA and Radio Shack in the graveyard of stores that had a tough time due to online competition - but ultimately did themselves in because of their shoddy service. read more

I'm giving a 4 star review because of the excellent help I received today from employee Ron Wood helping me to set up my computer. He was personable, competent and provided much more help than I originally thought I would get. He spent a lot of time with me installing useful applications from the internet and, in answer to my question about backup, spent a considerable amount of time explaining various options and setting my computer up for the best one. I would have given this store a 5 but for the brief and perfunctory help I received from the sales staff. I want nothing more than to give Micro-Center 5 stars because it's a geek paradise, but it's hard to do so. If you're a computer tech, geek, nerd, enthusiast, overclocker, power gamer or a regular guy looking for computer parts a good prices this is DEFINITELY the store for you. The selection is amazing, the prices on core PC components are competitive with online retailers like Newegg and Amazon and you can get what you need right away. Seirously, pretty much everything you could need, want or desire lurks within the walls. Oh, and they sell Bawls Gaurana (which, to geeks like me, is just icing on the cake). Given that, it should be paradise, right? Well, no. The store seems to be in a constant state of disarray and feels disorganized, dirty. It just doesn't feel well kept. It's hard to describe. The gaming section has been a huge mess for as long as I can remember with construction, empty shelves and scattered product. And it never seems to actually get better over the years. The store is in need of a make-over and reorganization as some things just don't quite feel as thought out as they should. Not only that, the sales staff are at times aggressively over helpful. Helpful is good, but when I'm asked by five different people within as many minutes if I need help it starts to feel repetitive. That, and for whatever reason, if you spend too long looking over expensive goodies (CPUs, SSDs) security starts to eyeball you. Expensive decisions require mulling over, and if I'm going to set fire to my wallet with an expensive purchase I need to make sure I use the right fuel. I feel bad giving Micro-Center 3 stars. As a geek, I feel I'm betraying my culture rating it such, but I have to go with my gut. Selection wise it's 5 stars but as a whole the package is lacking. read more

This review is specific to the service/repair department. The hard drive on my iMac died, so I brought it in to get my hard drive data restored and new hard drive replaced. Overall, it was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had. There were a few moments where they tried to do right (i.e. not charging me for the OS installation, but mainly b/c they did it without asking me). My biggest gripe is that communications were lacking, which is frustrating for a customer that just wants to understand the situation. In my case, they had my iMac for over a month when I was originally told 2 days, and was only contacted 2 times during that period. It would've been nice if they had communicated the challenges that were being encountered instead of leaving me in the dark. When I finally was able to pick up my iMac, it was noticeably scratched in 2 places and there was a ding on the stand. It was definitely far from a fairytale ending. They offered to replace the casing but as luck would have it, aren't able to purchase that part from Apple. Instead, I was offered a refund on the service that I had come in for, which is far from the damage that was done to my iMac. Very disappointing for a store that I used to regularly support. read more

The one star sums it up quite a bit. Was in here today while my Wife was in Michaels looking for some things. Was walking through the store checking out some of the stuff they had in there, and not one person approached me asking if I needed help with anything, nothing. Went into the Gaming Section of the store, and a clerk was stocking the shelves, and did not acknowledge me whatsoever. No Customer Service at all! The entire store was like that with me! A lot of the clerks were either standing around doing nothing, or playing around on the computer terminals throughout the store. They were also not helping the other customers as well. I noticed one customer go to one clerk, and the clerk just ignored him. I knew right there and then that I was not going to do anymore business in this store anymore for the way they treated their customers! And to top it all off, it wasn't that busy in there to begin with! Micro Center thinks that they are the only PC place here in Fairfax, VA, well they are wrong! After promised 6 day evaluation I was lied too 3 times "computer open on tech's desk". After 10 days I went and asked for it back. The counter service tech disappeared for a couple of minutes and came back "I checked it out, you need a new motherboard"! I got my laptop back, took it to a small repair shop who diagnosed and replaced plug in for little $'s. Another man I talked to was reclaiming his laptop--18 days and unrepaired. I haven't remembered the existence of, cared about, or vaguely considered using information from my A+ computer technician certification (much less the one networking class I took) for a thousand years. I just found out about MicroCenter recently from a fellow photographer, when I asked him where he bought his color calibrator for his monitor. When he said the place was out in Fairfax, I didn' think I could get to it, since I have no car. To my surprise, MicroCenter is just a quick bus ride from the Vienna metro stop or about a 15 to 20 minute walk. I was impressed by their selection. It sells anything to do with a computer, plus it sells televisions, phones, and various consumer electronics. MicroCenter fills the void that CompUSA use to fill. Unlike BestBuy, salespeople will actually come up to you on more than one occasion and ask if you need help looking for something. They will actually know where the product you're talking about is located. If you need a part or accessory for your computer, this is the place to go. read more

Techs are courteous and professional. There knowledge base is average. Their technical management team is unprofessional. The manager misses commitments to customers and avoids customers. The management team does not support their techs with the customers. Further, the management team appears to less than competent in providing minimal customer service skills to their technicians. In house technical support system for techs appears to be nonexistent. My experience with Micro Centers repair department is dismal at best. The only glemer of professionalism was dispayed by the front line tech and he missed commitments. read more

This was computer/electronic heaven. Reminded me of the now defunct Fry's Electronics back home in LA - a place which I loved and I miss. The staff were very helpful and the quality of products available was impressive. I even found a very good bluetooth car adapter for my older car! My first impression of MicroCenter is pretty rough. It seems like the only purpose for phone number is to refer you to the website. As you can image it was a pretty huge waste of time, no matter what option you choose it ultimately resulted in you ending up at the same message remarking about how all questions will be answered if I just go to the website. MicroCenter please just replace your ridiculous touch-tone menu with the message referring to the website, if you done want to take call from you customers. read more

When I'm just shopping for something and I know what I want, it's fine. When I need help... terrible. I needed a coax to ethernet adapter. Stop in and ask if they carry it and their employee tells me the only thing that does that is a modem. I ask if he's sure and he acts like he's positive. So I do more checking and he was wrong. So, I order one online from a different vendor. But, I needed a unique cable connector so I go back to Microcenter. The salesperson is "helping" me and can't find what I need (probably about 15 minutes) and starts getting exasperated (which was obvious from his loud sighing). Since I needed a BNC connector, I asked if one of the products he gave me to try was a BNC connector and said I could bring the product back if it wasn't what I needed. I ask if he can look it up and then reads me a passage from the internet that didn't answer what I was asking. He tried the "sorry, I can't find it" thing to get me to leave but I was not asking for something difficult. He offers to get someone else to help me so I agree since it was obvious he couldn't help me. I'm waiting another 10 minutes with no assistance. Finally, I ask another salesperson if he was helping someone but he was. About 5 minutes later he comes to help me (no problem with that). I'd say within five minutes he knew what I was talking about and that Microcenter didn't carry it (or have it in stock at the time). Predictably, while the new salesperson was helping me we walk past the other person that was supposed to be getting someone to help me helping someone else. So, again, his solution to helping me was hoping I would leave the store. I get a lot of these stores have problems finding employees. But, whoever you hire put them in departments where they know what they're talking about. Out of the three people I asked to help me, two were clueless and one knew what he was doing. If you need a product, I'd say they probably are the best in terms of what they stock in the Fairfax area. But, if you don't know exactly what you're shopping for and need help... good luck. read more

I wanted to find a good computer like CompUSA. I like the McLean and Landmark location. After these place close. So many year I found this location and my mother help me to get to this location. Even it was a far to get to. My mother Star with Arlington got us here. This when the Palm 5 was popular and you can upgrade the Palm 3 from 1 mag to 2 mag. Is it that funny. Now from 8 gig to 16 gig. Now I started to go here with Metro Access. I gone to the McD, Starbucks, Giant Food and Glory days restaurant. This is one of the best place to shop for computer stuff and any big kid love technology. Customer service is great. Service is fast and try to help to find or order what you need. Look around the front of the store for item you may like to buy. Check the sale section in the middle of the store for open products. Metro subway around the corner. Take a cab to get here. Even refurbish technology for great price. I will alway come back. read more

Micro Center is a rare gem among retail in that they actually beat online prices most of the time, or match when they don't. I had a major computer accident the week before finals -- I spilled a drink all over my computer and fried the motherboard. I had all my final papers and drafts on it, and I rushed to the Apple Store -- who said it was too old and recommended Micro Center. The gentleman who helped me was polite, helpful, and knowledgeable about all things computers -- he calmed me down and assured me the hard drive was safe, all they had to do was extract the files. I got extensions from my professors, and Micro Center saved my grades by getting it all on a hard drive within days. My backup computer was even older, and one month later that one crashed and died for good (although that was a long time coming). I repeated the above scenario, and they did the exact same thing -- saved my files, some of which were important music projects for a client. I can't recommend their repair services enough -- these guys know technology, and know how to help you in dire situations. read more

Be careful when buying technology from here. I purchased a business card scaner recommended by staff, only to find out the OCR reader was terrible, so I went back to swap it for another system. I explained the frustrating installation process and poor tecnology sold by Microcenter to manager (after waiting in line for over 30 minutes on a Tuesday) to see him provide poor eye contact, and try to rush and tell me it was outside of return policy period and that he couldn't do anything. Everything was in the same shape as given, I brought back as new and even noticed that they were still selling the same device (at a discount). I explained that I just gotten to install the device due to being busy with company, that they could return to manufacturer and allow me to SWAP it for another scanner, however management stuck to company policy.
