Micro Center has always been my go-to place for years. I'm glad this store finally organized their products and doesn't look like a junk yard anymore! The area is convenient and the store is overall fairly accessible. Unfortunately, I felt very uncomfortable being interrupted many sales people. Some of them could be very helpful, but definitely felt pushed by most. I was approached by one gentlemen with poor English and kept emphasizing to buy this "better stuff". It makes me feel like their manager is forcing this method on them and feel some pity towards them. I hope to see more happy workers in near future! read more

I have not had great experiences here. I built a PC here, and that was fine - the salesman was very helpful and honest, recommending the best value parts and steering me away from anything overpriced. Less than two days after I bought everything, my power supply completely died. They gave me a full refund, and this was the manufacturer's fault, but it wasn't a good sign. However, a few months later, my computer started having problems. It kept freezing, causing me to turn it off, getting worse and worse over time. I took it in for them to run a ($40) diagnostic. After getting the results back to me nearly a week after they promised, they told me on the phone it was the solid state drive causing the problem. However, the diagnostic sheet they gave me said it was the hard drive. I tried running it without the solid state, and it froze again. I tried running it without the hard drive, it froze again. After running back and forth to the store and calling them several times, I tried looking for other causes. Turns out that I forgot to install a few drivers when I bought the computer. After I installed them, it never froze again. TLDR; they charged me $40 for a diagnostic that incorrectly identified the problem, which I eventually had to solve myself. Great for parts and sales, horrible for service. read more

My experience so far, while I wait to get my laptop repaired: stood in line for an hour to drop off. There were 15 people waiting while only 2 associates helped with returns, pickup and repair drop off. That is unacceptable during back to school rush in my opinion. Next day: I called and was disconnected after several minutes listening to ringing - 6 (SIX!!!) times. A busy place needs dedicated operators to at least answer calls and redirect, even if on hold. I can handle being on hold, and I am generally a pretty relaxed customer, but I was getting frustrated after the 4th hang up, and then there were two more. They did call me back pretty quickly, so I'll give them grace, hence the two stars. I'll return to update based on the repairs. read more

I had great service from Ammand. He assisted me with the open box external hard drive's. He was able to explain to me the differences and which was the best deals that were sitting in the aisle. He was very courteous and knowledgeable in that department. I then went to look at laptops. I didn't get the guys name but he suggested a great deal on a refurbished laptop. I decided to return later for the laptop and just got the hard drive. BTW it was a 1TB seagate plus for 40 bucks. I was satisfied with my service here today. read more

I would consider this place more in tune for the geeks than the a Bestbuy or Circuit City. Others have put it correctly. It is like the "Frys" alternative for the Washington DC metro area. Micro Center stocks quite a few bargains. Computers, computer parts, computer peripherals, etc. I'd prefer not to continue too much before I over-expose my inner geek. But needless to say, they offer plenty of brand name computer products, plus several weird name brands, as well as OEM products for sale. Most of their merchandise is decent in quality, and their sales make some of their merchandise excellent bargains for those who would prefer not to deal shipping costs and time. Definitely look out for their bargain bin SD cards, mini-SD cards, and flash drives. If anything has gotten me going back there, its having to stock up on those. 1gb ranges from $10-15, and 2gb is $17-25. read more

There should really be two separate reviews, as the sales floor and services department are really two separate entities in the store. Sales: Micro Center has good prices. Overall, it is approximately one-million times better than Best Buy or Circuit City. The customer service isn't great and the lines are long. Most salesman are not very knowledgeable. If you have a very technical question, you should definitely just go straight to technical support (the room right in the front) or ask to speak to a technician. Micro Center redeems itself because it has an awesome return policy and pricing that is actually competitive with the web. Their gaming demo setup is very good, with about 4 or 5 TVs hooked up to consoles/PCs with the FULL VERSION of the games. Sometimes you can even request particular games to play if they have them set aside for demo. Awesome. They also have midnight releases for major games like Halo3, GTA, etc. Services: If caught up, they will generally guarantee that your PC/TV/Printer will be looked at within 1 day and fixed within 4. There is an expedite fee available to have the technicians look at your hardware immediately (insert sexual joke here). The technicians in Fairfax are way more competent than any Geek Squad or FireDog "technicians" I've ever met. The prices are reasonable, and also lower than BB/CC's. I would feel confident in bringing my PC to Micro Center (if I ever had to...). For the less technical, I'd probably rate Micro Center a 1-star because it can be really tough to find a smart salesperson to tell you exactly what you need. If you've already done your research and are ready to buy (which, if you're a smart person, you have), Micro Center is THE computer store to go to. read more

Note: This review is about the service side only. I brought my netbook here for a repair on Saturday morning. I was assured work would start that day and would "almost certainly" be finished on Saturday, but if not, then definitely Sunday. Didn't get a call on Saturday or Sunday, so on Monday I tried calling. And calling. And calling. Apparently no one in the entire store knows how to pick up a telephone. I ended up going to the store on my way home from work to see what was going on, and found out that my computer was still being worked on because they'd only started the repair that day. They assured me it would be ready in "one hour, or maybe two." At 8:30 I called back. Again, service didn't pick up, so I ended up talking to a store manager (Paulette), who actually went and checked on my repair herself. Thank you, Paulette! It still wasn't quite done, but would be by the time the store closed at 9. Lo and behold, it actually was. The repair turned out fine, but other than Paulette, the customer service is nonexistent. Don't take your machine here if you need it back in a hurry, or even "on time" according to what they tell you. I was going to buy a laptop from Micro Center, but I won't bother now. read more

Went there over the weekend to pick up a am2 motherboard. Got home and realized I did not need it anymore and did not even use the thing. I went back a few days later to return the board and the line was out the door for returns. Only one person was behind the counter and supposedly their system was down but was never told that after waiting in line for over 45 minutes. I left the line, went to the checkout and tried to do my return there. The worker had to get the manager of the store who said they can't do returns at the check-out. I told him I had been waiting in line for 45 minutes and casually says, "Yes, the system has been down." How about you tell all the people waiting in line that the system is down? I left and came back a day later to return the board. The system was back up and they would not accept the return at first. They stated that for motherboards, only exchanges could be done. I was baffled. I asked for store credit and they were able to do that after talking to the manager, again. I'll stick to online stores (New Egg). I wish there was a Fry's in our area. Oh yea, I agree with everyone else about the organization of the store, horrible. Price tags are missing on a lot of merchandise. read more

this review is specifically for the Micro center Service center! My computer shutdown randomly in the middle of me being on it (and my webcam had stopped working months before that) and with COVID, I couldn't physically bring it in to an apple store for them to look at. after working with a specialist at apple support over the phone for literally over a month and him telling me to wait to see if the apple store would open up soon, I finally was about to just send it into the apple support via mail and they almost charged me $500 before even letting me send it in (since my laptop is 2 year sold and not under warranty. Instead, I decided to drop it off first at micro center to have them take a look at it and they found that it was only a screen issue (a recall!!) and they sent it into apple, got the screen replaced, which actually was causing the webcam issue!!! in addition, i had a clear case on there which i never removed and when they returned it, they didn't have it on (might've been sent to apple and it was either thrown away or might be sent back a while from now) and they replaced it with a new clear case for me - service is impeccable here and everyone is super friendly! I will absolutely think to bring back my laptop for them to look at before even going to the actual apple store in the malls! read more

They have great deals on smaller things, and the basic needs. Great inventory on accessories and etc... Just a tip when buying their laptops, gaming laptops, or refurbished computers. The specs on display aren't accurate to the one you receive. For example, bought a Rig gaming laptop for $799 sale, was promised a Nvidia gtx 1060 but was instead after bringing it home and booting everything up and found a no brand dell 500 card... looked through a buddies laptop too and same thing but not refurbished. Asked some of the local gamers who also bought laptops there, same thing. Don't get me wrong it's a nice laptop but wished it was accurate to the specs they implied they were selling. So next time before you even take it out of the store, hoot it up to make sure it's accurate. read more

For those that are used to "Frys" in the left coast - Microcenter is a smaller version of that. One of the biggest challenges for me when I moved out from bay area to NOVA was to find the right "computer" shop. I hardly bought much from Frys when i was in bay area, but just going there during lunchtime and drooling over things for an hour made my day!. Microcenter is nowhere close to that - but after living here for 5 years, I have come to accept what is here!. This is the only shop I go to (if i am not buying online) to buy external hard drives, accessories etc). Some of their deals (which is usually placed in the front of the door) are pretty good. If you don't know what you are looking for, or are not an uber techie, don't go here. The customer service is terrible, and they either treat you like you know nothing or you know everything. Also, for a computer store, their computerized check out system is antiquated and slow. You can't just "run in" to grab something because you'll usually end up waiting in line for 20 minutes, even though there is only one person in front of you. I've been to this location many times. And honestly, I'd be ok with giving it a 4 star rating, except on one visit I dealt with an overly pushy salesman that caused me to stay away for a bit. The selection here is amazing. If it's computer related, chances are you can find it here. The sales are plenty and on things you might actually want or need. The protection plans are also reasonably priced and actually work. A week ago I went to purchase a new video card (EVGA GTX 660 SC) and a Dual Band wifi usb. The trip should have cost me upwards of $250. Instead, I walked out the door only having spent $170 for both items and 2 year protection plans for each. Not a bad haul. With the exception of the one time seriously pushy salesman, I have enjoyed most of my visits here. read more

I had placed on order online, to be picked up at the store. I had purchased a new stylus, and the tips to go with it. I went down to the Fairfax store since it was near my work, and several of my co-workers had picked up things there without complaint. When I arrived, I was informed that half my order was available, but no one could find the tips. I was puzzled since the in store inventory showed that there were 5 in the store. I waited 20 minutes as several people looked, to finally be told by the Inventory Manager, that things like that happen. He was going to file a inventory correction. I'm very torn in giving a rating to this MicroCenter location. My heart says it's between 4 and 5 stars but I'm only giving it 3 for a few reasons. Overall, this is a geek's dream, you can find anything PC related. However trying to track down product in store can be nearly impossible. If you look for something online and put in a store location to confirm whether or not they have it in stock, it may take quite some time to find it even with assistance from an associate. I've run into this problem twice while looking for a particular external hard drive. Secondly, this store is always in disarray. It just seems dirty, cluttered and a mess. From a comparison standpoint the Rockville store is much cleaner and more organized. Lastly, I'm constantly being bombarded by associates asking me for help, which normally wouldn't be a problem but the frequency here is too much. If you're looking for computer gear though this is the place to go. My last purchase of a WD My Book 3TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive was easy and at a great price. If I ever have a question I make to ask Christian, he's great. Look for him if you visit. read more

I came here to get my parts to build a PC. I went to the computer parts section, and immediately, a Sales Associate came to help me. He's a vietnamese guy named Vien (or something like that) I got a 4690k, but I don't think he knew that I was planning on overclocking. I initially planned to get a 212 EVO aftermarket cooler, but he said I didn't need it. It was my first PC that I built and, so I didn't know that I still should have gotten it. Also, I initially planned on getting a Z97 Anniversary motherboard, but, there was an open box Z97 Gaming 7 mobo for $45, and I was uncertain whether I should buy it or not. I took the risk and bought it, and by the time I had already installed everything onto the mobo, the computer didn't work. I brought the PC to Micro Center for troubleshooting, and they said I had a bad motherboard. I bought a set of screwdrivers/wrenches, took the CPU, video card, and memory off the mobo, then unscrewed the mobo, returned it, and returned the screwdrivers and wrenches. The return people were happy to hold the new Z97 anniversary that I was going to get after I returned the Gaming 7 mobo. Also, the $40 off cpu+mobo combo is unbeatable. (I got a 4690k for $200 and the z97 anniversary for $55! And this is in September of 2014!) My once favorite computer store has hit rock bottom. So much for "guaranteed in stock ink". Three week saga that ended with me giving up and buying direct from Epson. In general, I found customer service declining rapidly in 2018 and this was the end of it for me. It is a shame when a brick and mortar shoots itself in the foot. The two star is only for the decent price I got on a 500GB hard drive. While I prefer to shop online to save a few bucks, it appears some of the prices they have are very competitive with online retailers so if you need something quick and can't wait to ship, I would pop in there and check it out. HOWEVER, I had to knock three stars off for the horrible customer service. No one seemed to want to help me play with a netbook, which had to be password unlocked by an employee for me to try it. Then, the guy left it on a shelf that was above my head (I'm 5'4") and didn't offer to put it, I don't know, at a reasonable level for me to see the screen. In addition, I was told I couldn't test the Internet out because their wireless was really slow and therefore not representative of the Internet I may have at home so I might buy said laptop under some false pretense and return it when I use it at home? False pretense of slower Internet than I have at home?? Don't get it, but I get the fact that you're really not trying to sell me a laptop... Never again unless I'm desperate!! read more

I like Micro Center a lot. They carry a lot of computer items that you can't get at other electronics stores like Best Buy or Circuit City. Their prices are also quite good. Most of the time, you could probably find slightly lower prices in on-line stores, but if you want or need something right away or you want the convenience of being able to return something to an actual store, then Micro Center is what you want. It's also nice to be able to see things in person before buying them. As some other reviews have pointed out, one of the real bargains at Micro Center are the memory cards. I hate this store. You walk in and it feels like you've left your web browser behind and entered the great, lawless expanse of the internet. There's buckets of crap for $2.99 -- never mind what it is -- snotty little kids touching everything they can find, people who have no concept of "excuse me," and a disorganized pile of stuff from one corner of the store to the other. Recently they've developed a "gaming center" and an "Apple center." Unfortunately, none of the display televisions in the gaming area worked, and the Apple center only sells a limited selection of Apple merchandise (but bucketfuls of third-party made docking stations and other useless paraphernalia). Micro Center, I know you pride yourself on offering a wide selection of products and a more experienced staff than you might find at Best Buy or recently-exterminated CompUSA, but Andy's professional recommendation -- and I'm a total computer geek -- is to shop online at Amazon or Newegg instead. Nobody will try to up-sell commissioned junk or breathe down your neck on the internet, and you'll probably save an extra 10% to boot. read more

If you need electronics TODAY, meaning you can't wait for one or two day shipping if you're Amazon Prime then this place will do. My video card died and I needed it back up immediately; so I bit the bullet and paid the $350 from here. Luckily they price match or try too. I found the same video card from Newegg for 280. Well they couldn't price match entirely, but they did refund $50 to bring me closer to the online price. Made me feel good and the twenty dollar difference wasn't worth pulling out the card to return and ordering a new one online and then reinstalling. Just beware that the prices from a brick-and-mortar are gonna be higher; always ask if they'll price match. I was also about to buy an SSD to upgrade the load time on my machine, but their prices are like 200% higher then Amazon. Since there wasn't a time issue, I just waited for the free 2-day shipping from Amazon and got a sweet 60GB SSD. My machine is flaming like Adam Lambert. read more

I've heard nothing but great things about Micro Center so I thought it would be wise to buy my next pc from them. They have everything you would expect and then some. Prices are reasonable too. Because of that I decided to splurge a little and treat myself to one of their builds that was a bit more than I needed. Unfortunately it had some issues right off the bat and progressively got worse until it became unusable after 3 weeks. The store is a drive for me so I tried calling and chatting online about returning or exchanging it for something else. I couldn't get any help. They finally replied by email but would only help with the return. Due to the current situation I rely on my computer to work from home and I already sold my old pc. I tried some more but I never heard back. They were nice enough to take back the pc after their 15 day window. I ended up buying a lower end build elsewhere because I needed something. I'm giving 1 stars cause I used to like this place but its changed. The free tech support is a joke and just tells you to bring the item in for a $40 diagnostic because its outside the return window. The return window is also small and there's no accommodations when life happens and parts can't be had at their store due to limited inventory. Leading to having to purchase what you need elsewhere.. So if you buy something and can't figure out its faulty till outside the return window, you can pay more to rma the product which is still cheaper than the microcenter protection plan if you have to pay shipping. Unfortunately life happens but because of the lack of care or customer service from the online support or in store I would recommend seriously considering shopping elsewhere due to these policies. If I need something small and quick I may consider going back but otherwise I don't think I will return for another purchase. Let alone a large or complex one. Neighborhood equivalent to Newegg. Prices are on average, slightly higher than online but provides the advantage of getting them in person. Variety of products, constantly available and rotating staff to support customers. Decent number of registers, fast checkouts. Good specials and member deals. I needed a special adapter for my stupid computer monitor. I attempted to order something online from Amazon but it wasn't the correct plug. I went to Micro Center and looked up and down three aisles over and over again looking for the part. There were no employees around to ask for help. I was frustrated. I finally tracked someone down that walked around with me looking for the part. We couldn't find it. Wasted trip. A co-worker of mine took the time to make a trip out there and found a different employee that helped her find the part. Better training needed. Employees need to feel comfortable asking other, more experienced employees for help so the customer doesn't waste their time. read more

I didn't have a problem with micro center until today. I arrived as they were closing down. They closed at 6:00PM today, I arrived at 6:02, I myself just got off work and closed a few minutes early to try to make it on time. They still had customers checking out and a line of about 4 people waiting to be checked out. I asked the sales associate at the front if I can run and grab the item I needed. He wanted to say yes as he was ringing someone out, but directed me to his manager at the front. I explained to the manager that I just got off, I rushed over, I know what I want and I won't be a hassle. He explains to me they're closed, noones back there to help me etc etc. from his face you can tell the "I hate my job, I want to go home, I don't care I just want to close up" kind of face. I understand stores policy but for a manger who knows the situation who has the power to make a call he sure didn't care about anything and just wanted me out. What made it worst was he even said the store will be open 6:00-7:00 for employees only. I've worked retail half my life, I've been in those positions. I've had people do the same exact thing I did today, difference was I was trained to make decisions for the greater good of the company, I was trained to go above and beyond when the time called for it. This isn't on the store it's more a personal decision on the manager. I by all means understand I was late but man I never ever thought I would be the consumer that desperately needed something, arrived 2 mins when the store closed, with the chance to make the purchase only to be told no but yet the stores still open with consumers inside. I asked him for his name so I can write this and inform micro center, he asked me why. I replied "Man I just dropped 3k on a computer and you guys were all over me and all happy about the sale and coming out the woodworks left and right to complete the sale, I come back as a less important consumer and I mean nothing to you guys. You had the power to make a decision for the benefit of the company but you're more worried about going home" I'm not petty to return the computer as I'm still in my return policy, the guy that helped shouldn't feel those repercussions, maybe I hope microcenter gets better more professional frontmen that care about the aspect of their job and the people that help him maintain this job. Maybe I'm just bitter that as a previous manager at multiple retail outlets I made people smile and not frown. I went in looking for batteries for my laptop. The gentleman at the station near batteries was extremely unfriendly. It would have been just the same if I were to go up to a kiosk and type in my own questions. My second issue is with the manager on the floor. I clearly opened up my back pack up to show the sales person the laptop and batteries so they could search for me. When I decided not to buy the overpriced battery, the manager decides to follow me and my girlfriend everywhere through the store. This is off putting as I used to rely on Microcenter for all my purchases. They will not be getting my future order for 6600K build with all the bells and whistles. Step up your customer service!!!! I used to recommend you to my friends and family in the area. Not anymore. I regret purchasing my ASUS NJ55 from your store. To be honest this is not the first time I have encountered sub par service. No smiles and disrespectful staff. Only reason I went in was because I happened to be in the area. Micro Center is an okay electronics store. What they lack in organization and cleanliness, they make up for in stellar prices. If you're looking to buy a new computer (especially anything Apple), then come here and they'll beat any price you can find, including the on-base Military Exchange prices. For the most part, their retail floor-staff is friendly and helpful but they often seem understaffed and without support. If I have a question, I can usually expect to wait in a line of other customers waiting to speak to the same individual to get my answer. All the while, there are others that will walk by before a customer can rope them in for a question. Lastly, the store can be a bit sketchy. Things aren't really organized like you might expect in an electronics store and they sometimes seem just shoved into place (perhaps related to the lacking number of staff willing to help). They might want to also invest in security / roving patrols as I've witness some rather unsavory behavior from other customers shopping at the same time as me. read more

I've spent quite a bit of time in Micro Center these past few days and I actually really enjoy being there. Looking at the negative reviews, I can understand their perspective. Some of the workers there aren't helpful at all and you'd be wasting your breath communicating with those guys. However, I actually spent time talking with some of the workers there and I find that there are some very competent individuals at the store. I spend most of my time in the Build-Your-Own-PC section and the associates who helped me ranged from knowledgeable to obsessive with computers. Just judge the book by the cover on this one - if they look geeky, they probably are. I find the geeky looking ones are the friendliest and most helpful. Aside from the pc department, I spent some time in the gaming department as well. The guys in the there are somewhat knowledgeable about the games and can make good recommendations on the products available. If you're walking around in the center, I find the workers may not always be knowledgeable about the specific product you're asking about, but some will put forth the effort to be helpful. Finally, the pricing. I find some of their products are actually cheaper than what I'd find online. However, if their price is more expensive, just know that they will price match with newegg.com. read more

Makes Best Buy look like Walmart. I have gone in for things as small as an audio adapter, and as large as a computer array for my office. Each time I have been greeted with the same exceptional service from their staff. Their selection is excellent, carrying all the major brands, including Dell, Apple, Sony, Lenovo, and HP. They also make available everything you need to customize or build your own computer, which I did with their assistance this past year. Prices are competitive with Amazon and other online retailers with the benefits of being able ask questions and walk out the door with the parts the same day. One other benefit that I wouldn't have thought to include had I not experienced its benefits first-hand is the amount of bilingual staff. I have never had any issues communicating with them in English. However, I had a coworker who wanted to send a laptop to his sister in El Salvador, and whose English was less than fluent. A Spanish speaking salesman was able to explain all the benefits of the computers we looked at to my coworker in his native language. Take BestBuy...and make it not so crappy and expensive....TA DAAAA you get Mirco Center. Anything related to computers this is the place. If you need any HDD then go here. I have never seen better deals, in person, on 500gb's then this place. Not to mention they sell 2gb flash and SD for like $15. The RAM prices are a tab high, but they don't sell crap RAM. I picked up an HDD enclosure for like $20 here...amazing deal. My brother also picked up a Sony tv for here for like $300 cheap then BestBuy or those goons at Circuit City. So if you need anything related to computers or TV's ...then microcenter is DAAAA PLACE. read more

Retail: With the demise of CompUSA, this is the only major retailer left if you're looking for parts to build/replace in a PC. Prices are competitive, and you'll find items that otherwise you can only find online. The folks here work on commission, but I've not had a problem with overly pushy salespeople. It's not like HHGregg, where you'll get 5 people following you around asking if you need help; I usually have to flag down a salesperson myself because they're so busy. The store in Rockville is definitely less junky and overall nicer, but the products and prices are the same. Repair: Kind of a mixed bag. I took my all-in-one PC in to diagnose a screen problem. They were able to get back to me within 2 days, and would have ordered the part for me at a reasonable price had I chosen to go that route. The $70 diagnostic fee was fair, since I would have had to pay Sony $90, plus the hassle of shipping it off. Out of the three times I tried to call the service department (on different days), twice the phone went to voicemail. On the plus side, the technician responded to an email question I sent him within 5 minutes. Once I got my computer home, I discovered my CD drive no longer works; I suspect they didn't mount it right when they put the computer back together. I could take it back, but since I never use the CD drive, it's not worth the trouble. read more
