I went into the Bakersfield Midas Auto Shop White Lane (6919) for the following services. 1. Check engine light was on 2. Air Conditioner/ Heater issues 3. Brake noises 4. Oil change It was April 22, 2025, I left my car for repairs and picked it up on April 29th. I was told other repairs needed to be done immediately and I agreed to have everything fixed, so I thought. The only thing completed that was originally requested was the oil change. My engine light was off until I drove home and it popped back on. I took the car back and told them the EGR that you replaced is not working because the light is back on. My total bill out the door was $2,825.78 and this was for all the (immediate repairs) that I was told that had to be done. My air conditioner that was never fixed because they quoted me an additional price of $1,797.28 and brakes $882.48 did not set well with me, so Midas charged for a drum hardware kit so that I could drive the car home. Midas asked for a 3rd chance to fix the engine light problem and I declined because I knew I had been taken advantage of as a female. I went too two other shops who didn't want to touch the car and stated " Midas needs to fix it, you paid too much money for repairs" I was referred by Auto Zone on South H to take my car to " ER Smog Repair" who fixed my problem by simply replacing the pressure sensor part for only $117, the mechanic said there was nothing wrong with my EGR. The diagnostic that was ran at Midas, Auto Zone and ER Smog Repair which resulted in the same code that printed out on their machine was #PO401, #PO402. ER Smog Repair owner stated Midas should have known this. I guess Midas saw an easy prey and started racking up a bill. I will never return to any Midas for anything and I hope all the mechanics who worked on my car ate well. Please be careful who you take your car to, I read reviews but I guess they only post the good ones. Thanks to "ER Smog Repair" for finding the problem in less than 5 minutes and now I'm able to get my car tags. Thanks to Auto Zone for referring me. It's good to know not everyone is about taking advantage of people, thank God there are still some honest people here on earth. I also want to add ER Smog Repair fixed my heater at no charge, I can't thank you enough...you didn't know that my car was my home, I'll never forget what you done for me. read more

I brought my vehicle in for breaks and rotors. I dropped my car off at 2pm the time I made my appointment for, I waited to receive a call in regards to my vehicle, 5pm came so I decided to call Midas. They hadn't even looked at my car. The next day I was charged an inspection fee and was quoted $1000 for front breaks and rotors! Im pretty sure no one even looked at my car. Zero communication on their part, I had to continuously call to request information. I didn't even know they were keeping my car overnight until I called at 5pm! read more

Crooked and unprofessional! Came in for a noise. The manager Mike (who was screaming and cussing at employees in front of everyone in the office) said it was probably low on oil, so recommended to change oil first even before looking at it. Then after, wanted to charge for diag. cuz noise was still there. Then told me the engine was bad. Well $250 later when I left, I got 2 miles down the road and my drive pully and belt broke off. Run, they will milk you. I would put a zero but that's not available. Less than truthful. Gets parts from AutoZone etc. Double charge for another diagnostic test after already seeing codes. They will tell you something else needs to be done each time you bring your auto back to them due to same issue they were supposed to have fixed days before. I was told I needed a new battery ($270) after truck did not charge when I left it there with them for 45 minutes. It took me to say I was going to report them to the bar that miraculously truck started. I took it to A1 Battery and they said the battery was fine, it had a loose connection. Go figure! Midas, also said we needed some more work, only to have truck inspected that day, elsewhere and everything they said needed to be replaced was perfectly fine. Since Nov 2022, we have spent approximately $2k.with Midas. I do not recommend them and I have sent this review to other people. So, if you should go, do not let them charge you for 2 different diagnostic tests for the same issues. Who does that? So unprofessional, less than truthful, parts are under OEM standard which they don't tell you or where your parts come from. You would think from dealers! But oh no, from places like AutoZone or O'Reilly, etc. The manager claimed it's so they can charge you less. The truck in question has been well maintained with no issues other than oil changes and tires. All minor stuff. I have more to say but I think you get the picture. Inspite of us trusting them, there is nothing I believe I could do about the price or work I paid for the untrustworthy work Midas, did. All I asked for Midas to do was a return of a 2nd diagnostic test back on my credit card. Also, the technician made the call to decide the front desk could charge me half price. Since, when do employees get to decide? New one on me. No manager available. I was told the next day after calling Midas, the manager said she could not void the charge only the owner could reverse the charge but they could put that charge toward my next service done there. That was unacceptable to me. Are you kidding me? No way would this extremely unsatisfied customer return. I was given no other choice but to dispute it with my credit card company. I also, will be taking more issues to the next level. I am done with Midas. Please, I will not be replying to your generic customer experience team either. $175 an hour labor cost. Double charges for labor. Charged $650 for a single cv joint replacement. then wanted to charge another $650 for the tie rod which is $44 for the part and utterly 1 pin and 1 single bolt even though assembly is already apart, but tie rod does require disassembly anyway. I did both at home in 20 minutes. It was so easy. He also charged me $130 for diagnosis, but it was not diagnosed. Replaced the tie rods and cv joints and shake is still there. I have to take my car to another garage now. Stay away from this place unless you want to get ripped. read more

I called early on 11/16 and got quotes on getting my truck and motorhome oil changes. The price was fair and I brought the truck in to get it changed first Lauren wrote me up and a half hour later I was on my way to get the motorhome from storage. I arrived back and she wrote me up for the oil change on the MH. I received a call later that afternoon that it was good to be picked up. I drove the unit back to my home to load some items in the coach and my wife noticed that something looked funny on the roof. I got a ladder and discovered that my satellite dish had been damaged. I took pictures of the damage and called Midas. Lauren explained that there wasn't anything that could be done as it was late, but she would contact the owner. I called this morning and was told to get an estimate of the damage. Took the unit to camping world and received an estimate for replacing the satellite dish. Midas cut me a check for the damage and it is currently going to be repaired by tomorrow. I will definitely bring my vehicles back to this establishment because they treated me fairly and remedied the damage to my property. read more

They then took it into their hands to ask a service provider to pull it in asap due to me wanting to leave. staff is polite, but don't have appointments if you can't stick to them. Normally, I loath any servicing that deals with automobiles. However, the staff at this Midas location make the experience much more pleasant and bearable. The staff is quite knowledgeable and honest. The few times I've been here, I never felt like they were trying to press unnecessary services onto me. When they recommended me a service, they took me to my car and showed me evidence of visible wear and tear that require that service. They are quite fair on their pricing, too. Steve is an absolute gentleman. He is very kind and professional. He's the kind of guy you'd want to sit down and have a beer with. I can say the same for Omar. The facility offers virtually all automobile-related services: brakes, tires, oil, engine... you name it, they'll take care of it! Took my grandson's truck to have the brakes checked due to a warning light. After leaving the vehicle there all day, we called them and was advised that the job would be $1700. for a new drake module plus the vehicle would need to be taken to a Ford dealer for further work as they had no way of programming it. Then they gave me 4 free oil changes for what they called was an inconvenience then after I got an free oil change from them my car now leaks oil and they stole my remaining 3 free oil changes out of my glove box and ruined my radiator cap during my oil change. If I was broke down on the side of the road and they offered to fix my car for me I would tell them no!! This is the worst service I've ever received in my life from a company, and they are rude to boot. Don't waste your time or money on Midas! Terrible terrible terrible!! Oh wait did I say terrible!! Brought Truck in for repair to exhaust line which had been attacked with a saw in order to steal the catalytic converter. The thieves didn't finish their work but left a cut in the exhaust system. Midas gave the under side of the truck a thorough inspection and welded the cut area closed.. All the people at the Midas shop were terrific, professional, courteous, and very efficient. My family has been a Midas customer for over twenty years. In the past year (since Steve left) things have gone downhill. The final straw came when I brought our car in to have the air conditioner fixed. They told me it needed a condenser and would cost around $1600 dollars. When I said that's high even for a condenser they said "well we have overhead". I than took it to Addis Auto. They put in a seal kit, Freon and charged me $160. That is slightly more than what Midas charged me to diagnose it wrong. read more

Been here a few times with multiple cars and have always had a positive experience. You can make an appointment online (easy process) and they also take walk ins and usually have same day availability. I come here for tire rotation and oil changes... have not had many major services done here but they seem to do a thorough job and Steve goes through the inspection checklist with me when I pickup the vehicle. Never felt pressured to add extra services. Overall happy with their services! read more

The man kept speaking to me like I'm an idiot and don't know anything about my car and kept dismissing everything I was trying to explain, on top of recommending what to use for my car when everything he would recommended didn't even fit or wasn't the right parts for my car. I hope Steve's back soon. I've been going to Steve and Midas on White Lane for years getting oil changes, my brakes done or whatever was needed. Went in for an oil change today and no Steve. The woman that's working puts the paper you sign to get it started in front of me and the price is about $45 more than usual. When I questioned it she just said that's the price. So I said no thank you and left. I went and got it changed for $69 and mine takes a 6th quart. Hope you're back soon Steve and everything is ok because you do make a difference. read more

Amazing customer service and an honest establishment. I went there today as a walk in (on a Saturday, I went early, thankfully). I was greeted as I walked in, and asked what I can be helped with. I stated my issues/concerns and Steven said it'd be no problem. Explained diagnostic cost up front, and then added my ticket to the mix. He then told me there was water in the mini fridge, and coffee would be ready soon. My daughter and I sat down, and my car was taken back within 30 minutes. Keep in mind, there were already 3 to 4 cars they were working on. I had an idea of what the issue was, but was also grateful they found that my wheel hub was loose, and the bearings were shot. I had to have an engine mount put in at Toyota the previous weekend, along with an oil change and tire rotation, and nothing was mentioned about the wheel hub then. Needless to say, the extra expense wasn't expected, but am grateful because I'm currently 8 1/2 months pregnant. Parts had to be delivered, and after 4 1/2 hours, we were good as new. I have no reservations on going here in the future. They're very accommodating, and generous. They appreciate your time and patience, just as you should appreciate their honesty and willingness to find and FIX the problem. The diagnostic fee was credited to my total bill, which is a plus! The one and only positive thing I have to say about this Midas location is that they are fast. But keep this in mind when they tell you all the imaginary issues your car has. I get my oil changed and my tires rotated right on schedule but usually have my husband do it.. every now and then I will cut him a break when he's tired and just have Midas do it since it's cheap. I have gone to this Midas location twice in a years time and both times they have told me I had things wrong with my car. Last year they told me my front struts were bad and leaking. Midas' overly cautious (read: rip-off) criteria says that struts should be replaced after 50k miles.. give me a break, who does that? It isn't necessary. They also told me the wear on my tires was uneven and I might have a bent axle or my alignment might be off.. which is hilarious because my car handles perfectly. I have a Toyota and took it to the dealership shortly after that visit with Midas and they confirmed that there was NOTHING wrong with my car, suspension and whatnot was fine. I had new tires put on around that same timeframe because the "unevenly worn" ones were worn down period, at 80k miles it was definitely time. I took my car to America Tire on Gosford and they said the wear pattern was normal. I went to Midas again this past week and yet again they told my struts were "bad and leaking oil" and also mentioned that my A/C and power steering belts had "dry rot" and were cracked and needed to be replaced. So I had my husband switch the belts out for me and we had a look at my struts...no leaking whatsoever. The belts were fine, only slight wear and probably could have gone another 10k miles if not longer. While I was sitting in the waiting room this last time, the manager of this location (I believe his name is Steve) gave a run-down of problems to every single customer that came in to pick up their car. Now obviously I don't know for certain if their cars actually had problems but there seems to be a lot of BS coming out of that man's mouth, I have had to deal with him everytime I've come in and heard the run-down of "problems" my car had. If you are pressed for time, they are very fast and will change your oil and rotate your tires in a more than reasonable amount of time. When they go over their assessment of your vehicle with you, please take everything they say with a grain of salt! Service that quick makes me wonder at exactly how much time they may or may not have taken to inspect for any problems.. especially when said problems were absolute fiction in my case. read more

Absolutely terrible job, my brakes were never fixed right, rear shoes were on backwards, im not even sure if they changed my oil filter along with oil. I spent $329 on crappy workmanship, they obviously dont take any pride in thier work, I found a great mechanic that pointed out everything they were paid to fix or lack thereof, I was discussed that they would charge so much for nothing. read more
