I went to get the oil change special advertised on tv. Supposedly it was $17.76 oil change and tire rotation. My SUV needed a synthetic oil which was $49.95 including tire rotation according to the television ad. The shop charged me $65.00 for a synthetic blend and no tire rotation. Also, it took over one hour to complete the service. Go somewhere else and save time and money. read more

GET NO REPAIRS DONE HERE!!! So over two visits, this Midas has told me that my car needs $4,500.00 worth of repairs. Given the age of the car, I don't need Kelly Blue Book to tell me that this is over and above what the car is worth. Fortunately they sounded inflated enough to me that I thought I could shop around and get better prices. Well, it was worse than I even thought. The $1,500.00 repair that the serviceman "was just trying to be honest with me" about? Yeah, completely not needed. And even if I did get it done, I was being overcharged almost $300.00 for one of the parts that I didn't need. And the $3,000.00 repair I was given an earlier estimate for? One that one, they were charging me almost three times for parts what other garages charge, and again not all of them needed replacement. In short, their $4,500.00 of needed repairs actually translates into $700.00 of needed repairs. Oh, yeah, actually it will cost me a little more than that, because the way they installed the muffler was wrong and fixing their screwup is now a necessary repair as well. They are not interested in fixing your car; they are not trying to be honest with you. They just want to clean out your wallet. read more

Tales of 2 different Midases. I stopped here for an oil change that I purchased on Groupon and was told that I needed to purchase another Groupon for the synthetic oil change (which is higher) instead of the conventional. Here's the problem: Since I've purchased the car, I've always had a regular, conventional oil change done even at the dealership. For the last 2 years, I've gotten a CONVENTIONAL oil change done at another Midas shop on Roosevelt and never had a problem. And when you do a simple Google search or research any owner manual, it's clear that synthetic oil is optional. After explaining that synthetic oil was not needed, I was told "I don't care what others have done or what it says, I'm not doing it. You need synthetic oil." So basically everyone else doesn't know what they are talking about and all these years I've been doing it wrong LMAO. This was clearly an attempt to get me to buy the more expensive Groupon. And when you look at the reviews it's clear this is what this location is known for. Save yourself the time and go 2 blocks south and deal with that Midas. At least they'll pull up your vehicle's information right in front of you and tell you what is needed or recommended and NOT just tell you what they are going or not going to do. read more

I came in because my vehicle was making a popping sound that I thought might be my transmission knocking, but I wanted to get it checked out. Midas inspected the vehicle and told me assuredly that it was a clogged catalytic converter. Because I work nearly 70 hours per week, I didn't have time to get a second opinion (you can probably tell where this is going), so I just had them make the repair. They replaced the converter, charging me a whopping $1,300. The car still makes the popping sound, and I am more certain than ever that it was just my transmission all along. I also asked them to do a brake inspection because the front brakes have starting grinding and I knew I'd need to get them replaced soon. They quoted me over $600 for the front and rear pads and rotors, but luckily for me I sensed the scam this place was and told them I would wait to do the brakes. I dropped my car off a place in Pilsen this morning and they happily did the front brakes and rotors for a mere $300 (the rear would've been much cheaper), and informed me that the rear brakes and rotors look great, and definitely have at least another year of driving in them given my mileage. I am appalled at the lengths these people went through to overcharge me. As a young woman, I am used to mechanics giving me a long list of everything that's "wrong" with my car and needs "immediate attention." But this is by far my worst experience so far, and let me tell you, that is definitely saying something. At least the guy was friendly as he lied to my face and ripped me off? read more

I arrived at this establishment on 7/16/2019 approximately 7:50 am. A young man stepped out from his vehicle at 8:10 am and informed me that it would be another 30 minutes before I could get an oil change and that the coolant flushing machine was down. I got work done on my vehicles from this Midas facility and I must say I am very well satisfied!! I normally don't write reviews but I had to this time. They customer service was/is second to none along with the hospitality! But what I was really concerned with is the quality of work on my vehicles and it was impeccable!! I had no complaints. Outstanding!!!! I referred this Midas to my friends family and coworkers and they were very impressed with the auto services and customer service. I was a mystery shopper from 2012 to 2013 for Midas. There are two midas shops on South Stony Island Drive. This one (located on the 7200 S Stony Island block) is 100% a scam. During this time I visited this location two times. Both times they told me I needed ALL of my brakes replaced, including the rotors, plus my battery, which came to over $800. No other Midas I visited during this time frame as a mystery shopper found anything wrong with my brakes, including the Midas located just south of this one that I visited LITERALLY THE VERY NEXT DAY. Please, if you need to get work done on your car or an estimate for anything, do NOT go to this Midas. If anything, visit the one a few blocks south of this location on the 7400 block of South Stony Island. read more

Do NOT come here. I needed a tire change from getting a flat. The tire was ruined and I had to order one. They didnt have the tire in stock and had a tired delivered here. It took almost 4 hrs to get the tire change. I was sitting there forever!!! Wasted my entire day. Its especially upsetting because they told me it would only take 1 hour. read more

This is by far the worst Midas you want to go to. I set a appointment two days ago for 3pm. I got there at 230 on the day of appointment. the guy at the register had an attitude with me for no apparent reason and didn't want to honor my appointment. He said that he wasn't taking me in because he didn't want to get off late. Keep in mind my appointment was at 3pm and they close at 4PM. The service I wanted we have only taken about 30 minutes. I asked him if there was another Midas nearby he told me to look on the website because he didn't know the area. Come to find out there was another Midas a block away. They were pretty nice. They also told me that they get a lot of customers from that shop for the same reason. Customer service is very important. If you don't know how to treat a person you don't need that job. read more

This is the worst place ever. I went here April 2019 due to my service engine light was on and I couldn't pass the emissions test. I was having no issues with my car at all as far as the car being able to drive. The only thing needed was brakes and I was aware of this before I came in. I had it for 3 years, its a 2004 Dodge Caravan. My plates was expired and I couldn't renew until I passed the emissions test. I was getting so many tickets. I was told at the DMV that if I prove that I have gotten repairs done and the light is still on I could get a waiver. So I went to this Midas because it is close to my home and I have been driving by for years. I explained the situation to the guy at the front desk. I left my car overnight and came back the next day. He informed me that I needed $1200 worth of work on my car to be done. I was concerned that this price was to much. He gave me a print out with a break down of all the repairs the computer states that my car needs. He stated that it really needs more but this is the minimum to get the light off. He stated that they used all new parts that is why the prices are a little high. I agreed to have the repairs because I was desperate to pass the emission test. My car was okay for about 2 wks. Then everything just went down hill. My car started skipping like it was going to cut off. Then it would just accelerate on its on. I would have the car in park and you could still hear the car accelerating. The meter that shows when the gears switch would just stay at 2. Even when driving the car it would drag when you accelerate and stay in 2nd gear then jerk and keep acting up. I cant even put the car on the expressway because it wont go over 40 mph and it gets stuck in gear. Its like the transmission is now dragging. So I took my car back and explained this. He kept my car for about a week. I was calling every day asking when it would be ready and he kept saying tomorrow. When I picked up my car he stated that they had to replace something that had to do with the acceleration. They put a used part on there the first time. Sometimes used parts are good and sometimes not. He said they ordered a new one a put it one. I reminded him that he told me initially that they use all new parts and that is why the prices are so high. He denied telling me that. He also gave me another list of things that is wrong, spark plugs need replaced and all basically a tune up he wanted me to give another $500. He said if I don't do the tune up the car will still be acting up. I was not comfortable giving him any more money so I left. After a week my car started doing the same thing. I went back and told him my car was still not running correct. He needs to at least get my car back to how it was running when I came in. He refused. By then I was just furious. He stated that if I came back on Saturday he could do it but I will not get a receipt and he will take off $100 off the total. I told him no, he will never touch my car again. I told him I should have listened to my Father and let him take my car to a mechanic because all they do get over on women when we come in. Out of curiosity I went to the Midas about 2 blocks down so they could look at my car and tell me what they think is wrong so I could compare the 2. But when I walked in the same guy was behind the counter that was at the other one down the street. So both shops are ran by the same scamming con artist crooks. I just turned around and walked out. In conclusion I would caution anyone from going to this shop especially women if you don't have knowledge of cars. read more

At first, I purchased a Groupon with this Midas on 72nd street. The person working the desk there refused to accept my groupon for a conventional oil change to try to get me to pay more for a synthetic oil change. I complained to Groupon and they referred to the location on 74th. The owner said he'd still accept my groupon since I had already purchased it but recommended that I start getting synthetic because of my car's mileage. Very professional. They even used the synthetic oil with no charge and still used my groupon. Lesson learned. Everyone should go to the location on 74th and steer clear of 72nd. read more
