Horrible service in Kailua Midas , all I went for was a Inspection and they said I was missing a lug nut , I know I had all of my lug nuts in before I went BECAUSE i took pictures around my car, they even told me I was "leaking oil" in my spring struts , how do you leak oil in spring struts , i told him that the oil was brake fluid BECAUSE I did a messy job, but the fat guy still never passed my , he even stole one of my lug nuts . If there was a 0 star 0r less I would give that grade instead, but a 1 star is the lowest grade so that what this gets. I came in to ask for a saftey check and got told to sit in a chair to wait. I told the employee, that I would rather stand (due to Coronavirus) which he bristled at and told me I needed to go outside. The employee hasn't taken my name or my number so I asked to be checked in or at least to let me know how I would keep my spot in line. Instead of communicating, the employee immediately told me I had to leave. When I asked for the customer service line to report my service he immediately tired to force me out in the middle of Coronavirus. He also intimidated me when I tried to ask other staff member for the report line. This is a joke and the worst service I've ever seen. This establishment obviously doesn't care about us and how they treat us. I didn't even get an number or any communication about my service. As an added Bonus I learned that apparently Midas feels that they can get in peoples faces whenever they want, whenever asked about our methods for quality protection. no appointment needed, first come first serve for Safety Check inspection. i was second in line, arrived before they open, however, waited for over 3 1/2 hours before they inspected my car after pushing them twice. Took only 5 minutes to complete, very very disgusted , was told their first client had major problem and that they didn't forget about me. Manager did leave message explaining this and offered some free service which I didn't need. By the time they finally pulled my car for inspection, all the rest of cars 'in waiting' were no where to be seen. i think they need to alert next client on possible delay if they are tied up with one customer. i wandered and walked the neighborhood for over 3.5 hours, no place to sit nor rest. I needed a safety check asap b/c I let mine expire, and needed to get on base the next day (I totally put myself in this situation). Midas was the only one in Kailua willing to do it that day. The other shops had a two week wait, b/c they only schedule them. They said to come in, but I'd have to wait b/c the mechanics are the ones that do the safety, so they'd weave my work into what they were doing. They said that they try to do it in 1 to 1.5 hrs., but I knew that I might have to wait more. While I was there, I heard a seasoned mechanic give sound information to an elderly woman. There was some optional work she could have done, but expensive. He shared her options, and even suggested that he would personally not do the repair till a later date, as she had some wear left. No pressure on her, and she made her own decision. Another customer was getting a tune-up, and the tech joked with him about how busted up the inside of the car was. They laughed together and traded stories about how their dogs did all the damage. In my opinion; friendly, helpful and honest folks. Back to my safety check. Luckily, I only waited for 30 min, and it was done. I was surprised, but prepared to wait much longer. Being a mechanic in the past, I understand how hard it is to quote a time-frame for a walk-in job. The front desk person, internet scheduling, and the mechanic are all trying to reduce a customer's wait time, but still trying to stick to a schedule. If you're reading my review keep this in mind. One day, a company will be taking great care of you, at the cost of pushing another customer back a bit. Give yourself some extra time when servicing your vehicle, or pay triple to a company willing to drop everything for you. read more

I went to there on-line appointment scheduler. Scheduled and appointment for a safety check. We got an email saying they received the request and would confirm shortly. Since no further communication was received my husband called and was told they didn't schedule appointments for safety checks and they had no record of our requested appointment (even though they responded by email). We were informed that we would need to go there at 5am and wait until they opened at 7am and hope we were one of only five cars they accept daily! read more

These guys are ripoffs. They were just supposed to change the oil in my car. They, somehow, knocked my property OUT of my car onto the asphalt and destroyed it and didn't even cop to it or apologize. They supposedly changed the oil and and air filter, but when I got home, my coolant was completely empty. They didn't even check it, -or worse. A few days after they worked on my car, my air conditioning went out. I mentioned it, and they offered to "fix" it for 2200 dollars. I took the car to my friend who recharged the Freon with dye to see if it is leaking. Two months later, it has not leaked anywhere at all. What happened to my Freon while my car was at Midas? They also talked my sister into a 1200 dollar brake/rotor job when really all she needed was pads. Even if she had needed rotors, my friends' shop only charges 300 dollars for that. The people at this Midas are dishonest and took advantage of my sister because she's young and female and doesn't know about cars. I suspect they break as much stuff as they fix. RESPONSE: They can stop with their fake okole apology. All I have to do is read the reviews and see they've been running the same scam for at least a decade. I talked to two people just today who got bilked by their "safety inspection" scam. Dishonest. ADDENDUM: They also talked me into replacing a part for $400 so I could get the light on my dash to turn off. But then told me they couldn't get the dash light to turn off, even though they did definitely change out the part. Well. Now I have to replace that SAME part because the one they "installed" is not reading. So, they talked me into something, charged me an exorbitant amount for it, then didn't do it. Here's my little paean about this business: I was driving home to Kailua from Kapolei and my Toyota's engine started shaking and the car was decelerating. I looked down and my engine lights looked like some sort of Christmas tree. I pulled into a Waipahu Midas. The lady there told me to come back tomorrow and "good luck getting home to Kailua." Do or die, I revved my engine and barely made it over the H3. At a light, I used my Yelp app to call the Kailua Midas, as I've never been denied there. Midas worker Craig answered, I told him my predicament and he said "come right in." I sputtered into the driveway and was greeted by name. "I think I know what your problem is," he said and proceeded to give me some sort of chemistry lesson on my engine's inner workings and why it is making that sound and knocking. "Good thing you have a Toyota, if you had a Ford, you'd be calling a tow truck," he said. He assured me the vehicle would be ready the next day. I live about a mile away from this location, so I started to walk home. He stopped me and handed me an umbrella. "You can't trust the weather," he said. Car was ready the next morning. A couple of hundred bucks later I was driving off the lot. Considering that's how much a tow truck and Uber would have cost to rescue me from the nether regions of the H3, I was actually happy to pay it. Craig and his staff went the extra mile and offered excellent customer service. The world needs more people like Craig, and more businesses like Kailua Midas. Mahalo! read more

I had a 10:00 AM appointment today at Midas in Kailua for an oil change. I arrived on time and told the person at the desk that I would be nearby waiting. I asked about how long this would take and he said "about an hour" and that he would call me. At 12 noon I walked back thinking surely it was done by now & maybe he forgot to call me. When I went into the office the same gentleman was at the desk & asked "can I help you?". Obviously he did not remember me from two hours before. When I said I was there for my car he said "oh, your car is next". I told him I would not wait & that was unacceptable. He said ok, gave me my keys & not even an explanation or apology! As I left I said I would never come back and again, not a word from him! I had an appointment but I guess that means nothing? And I was a return customer, having had oil changes there before! I had a oil change appt . took my car in the guy at the desk was nice, they also rotated my tires, he told me I had a nail and said it would cost more I said ok ($37). When my car was finish I went back to the front desk to paymy bill by then the (girl must've just come back from lunch,) she said rudely what do I want I said well the guy jus pulled my car up front so I want to pay my bill. 5-14-21 In January of 2021 I had to get a emergency safety check and was very pleased with the service. So when I bought a new vehicle I came right back because they have a walk in first come first served policy. I was very early to be first in line. Beware ***** My car has been overheating for weeks and also squealing badly for the first 20 minutes of every morning. At 9am we were asked to drop the car off for the day and at 2:30pm the mechanic (Craig I believe) called me to tell me there was nothing wrong. Then he asked that I leave it for a week in order for him to change out the belt (a 15 minute fix per google - max of an hour). He was also one of the rudest gentlemen I've ever spoke to. Everyone has a bad day but he took it beyond rudeness. Worst mechanic experience ever. Beware!!!! No wonder they are 2 1/2 stars. I should have known better. I would like to add, the lady upfront was very nice and pleasant. I believe her name was Tina. Someone needs to promote her to management in order to get that place lined out. Took my 2005 Ford F-150 to get it checked out they said the number 5&7 cylinders has water in there and I was gonna need to change my motor. I asked them if the pulled the plugs to actually see water but instead said no charge and wouldn't actually check. This place has bad service and try to nickel n dime you or find thing wrong that they can charge u for. Took it to another shop to get a second opinion and they said the the coil packs where no good and changed the spark plugs n coil packs. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! Brought my truck in for a routine oil change, and they somehow proceeded to completely break the ignition. The steering wheel, ignition and shifter were locked up and they couldn't tell me why. The man at the front desk was condescending until cops arrived. Had to have it towed to RNS who were able to fix Midas's mess and change the oil in a couple of hours. Just go to them instead. read more

I set an appointment with this Midas and I dropped it off 15 mins early. I walked around Kailua for about half an hour and then Target for another 45 mins or so. And even then my vehicle had barley just got into the stall to have a simple oil change. So I then waited in the small waiting area for another 30-45 mins. Additionally I had been watching the technician conduct the oil change on my vehicle and when the lady that works the front counter saw that I had been staring at the maintenance that was being conducted, she got up and said "this guy has a staring problem or something!" As she walked out the rear door leading to the maintenance bay to another employee. look I don't normally complain about stuff. But it doesn't take 2 hours to do an oil change. And it seems as though the lady that works the counter needs to learn about customer service or find a different job... all in all I do NOT recommend this place. read more

We tried two other places but they were swamped and could not take us right away...Midas put us right in the line up...but asked us to make sure the rental company would cover the cost...so I called...when i got the company on the line I went to give the receptionist the phone. She was surly and rude...I do not need to talk to them...if they say yes...great. She didn't even look at me in the eyes. HORRIBLE! They said it would take 60-75 mins for my oil change, 2.5 HOURS later they call and tell me it's ready. I have my 1 year old with me and have to wait in line for 15 mins in their small, dirty, ghetto waiting room just to pay for my car. It was $108 for a full synthetic oil change?! He offered me a $10 coupon which was nice of him but I have never seen an oil change cost so much! I pay $98 and head out the door & he didn't mention that my car was in a different parking lot. So I asked where it was and he said in their over flow lot?! They should automatically bring your car around to you if it's on another property. ESPECIALLY when I'm holding a 1 year old Baby and it's PORING rain out side!!! .... I finally get to my car and it smells like Oil inside with a paper carpet protector on the floor that's covered in dirt and oil foot prints and in my passenger seat floor they left an oily rag!!! I've never felt so MISTREATED and GOUGED from a business in my entire life. I'm never coming back and will be sharing my experience with many people. This review isn't trying to aim negatively toward the office worker he was nice, but management needs to instill some basic standards like quoting time frames properly, bringing cars around to their actual lot when customers are ready to pic them up, also double checking that the car is as clean as it was before service. Sometimes my truck has a squeak, and I just wanted to find out what it might be, Craig drove it and didn't hear anything, I asked if he could drive it again, he did, still nothing. Got my oil changed here in August then in October my car completely stopped working, the engine is ruined caused by many issues. I had absolutely no issues with the car prior but just happens to be that Midas was the last company/person to touch my car. If the car had such a big issue they should of realized that there was a issue. Something that cost $9,600 to repair doesn't just happen over night. I wouldn't recommend bringing any car here, they will absolutely mess with your car and put you into more issues than needed. read more

Just went in today. They now have a new manager for all of Hawaii? So, this new manager now implemented a new rule that customers cannot bring in their own oil and filter for an oil change. If you want to bring in high-end oil (like Royal Purple) you cannot bring that in. You have to buy their oil.... at a reasonable price of $80+ bucks (for a complete oil change) vs. the $35 I used to pay when I brought in my own stuff. Midas... I went to you for 6 years and now I'm going some where else. What a disappointment to try and make an extra buck. read more

Not only did they go out of their way to find things wrong with my car they also would not provide even small courtesies. For example, I had to take the temporary tags off my car and they would not loan me a crew driver, and stated that if they took them off they would charge me. Brought the car in for an oil change and they gave us a list of things that were 'wrong' with the car: Need replaced: Water pump serpentine belt - cracked and worn ($86) Front brake pads - very low ($290) Front brake rotors - large ridges, wrong size, very low ($278) Front sway bar links - looseness ($127) Recommended: Rear brakes - adjustment ($45) Engine oil flush - oil was super low ($100) PCV filter - replace, maintenance ($73) Fuel filter - replace, maintenance ($78) Spark plugs - replace, maintenance ($305) Say what?!?! We have since returned to the mainland and just brought our car to our regular mechanic for a check-up to see if these things indeed needed attention. But after talking to other customers in the waiting room and seeing the low ratings on Yelp I feel like I have to help out this place My experience working with Adam have been great. My bottom splash shield broke while driving on the H3 and was dragging on the. House sitting here in Kailua, I was unfamiliar with the car shops close by. It being right before Christmas I was scared everyone was gonna be closed. I called first thing in the morning the day after Christmas and Adam told me to come right in What made this experience different from others was that I felt that he genuinely cared about my time and money. He gave me prices and the time it would take to do the repair. Best thing of all, he told me I didn't actually have to replace the part right then and there. He was able to secure the shield with twist ties and caps. Technically as long as it holds it should be fine until I was ready to replace. I was in a time crunch since i was leaving for a trip that evening so it worked out. I feel that if I went to my regular dealership they would've told me that I needed to get my car fixed then and there. The best thing however was that Adam didn't charge me for the assignment and temporary fix! Today I'm back after the hustle of the holidays and ready to replace my car part. The temporary fix Adam did held up the past few weeks with no issue. Cost wise I'm mostly paying for the replacement part, about $40-50 for the labor. I don't live on this side of the island so it must mean something that I'd drive all the way here for this service. BAD SERVICE!!! Set an appointment via internet, Dropped off car @10:52 AM was called and they said that the Oil was special (It is) and the oil wouldn't be there unitl 12:00PM. Incompetence! Shoddy workmanship! Attitude! I heard a lot of bad things about this place. I had no choice I had nowhere else to go. All I needed was a tire to be patched or plugged. The nail was in an area that couldn't be patched (they said). I was pressured into buying a new tire. They used my old valve stem and OLD sensor seal. Now my tire is flat two weeks later. Absolutely horrible. I came in for a simple oil change and they called me 3 hours later trying to charge me $1,153.39 to replace my oil pan. They even said that I would need to possibly ship my car out and I wouldn't get it back for a week. This caused me so much panic and anxiety because I literally do not have that kind of money. I called my dad for help and after 10 minutes of him being there it turns out all I needed was an oversized plug that would cost $9.99. Absolutely horrible, I think they were just trying to take advantage of me because Im a young girl who showed up by herself. read more
