Okay, so I call this Midas to get a quote on patching a tire. I speak with a guy who explains to me that its $20. Sounds great doesn't it, until I ask him whether it's extra for diagnostics or whatever labor is involved in removing the tire. He tells me not to worry about it, just bring it in to see if there's even a problem, then we'll take it from there. He was totally evasive and would not give me a straight answer. As it turns out, I called Just Tires and it was $26 including tax, everything! No freaking hidden charges. I think it's about time these guys had an updated review! I don't know if this location has switched management recently, but the service I received was great. Here's the situation, I started hearing grinding sounds while driving on 94, so I got off on the Dempster exit and was so relieved to see Midas auto service. They were open and despite their heavy schedule, was able to diagnose my car right away. While they had my car raised, they took me into the garage and showed me what my tires were doing that was causing the grinding. Scary! They gave me a reasonable quote for 2 replacement bearings, and rear brakes. I did not feel swindled at all! My car was all fixed by the time I got off work and runs great! read more

Not sure why the other folks are complaining. i have had my 1997 saturn serviced at this location on multiple occasions and have found the techs to be knowledgeable and helpful. i needed a frame bolt which doesn't exist anymore, and the guys managed to get something that would work anyway. they road tested it, drove over RR tracks and generally ensured that i wouldn't have a problem with it. later, when i took the car to a dealer to have a different issue checked out, they confirmed that the Midas guys had in fact done a great job on developing a fix that would work safely. they also told me i would need a new compressor eventually without trying to charge me for putting one in, which the dealer also confirmed was true. they've handled repairs both small and large with knowledge, skill and fairness. read more

I have been a long time customer at this location. It seems to have gone through a number of owners but it's always been OK. Today I was in a panic because I needed my A/C fixed right away. I have dogs and I can't drive with them in this weather without A/C. Eddie, George, and Jerry are my heros! My van broke down after I had dropped off my son to camp and I was stranded. I called a tow truck and then called Eddie. He was so friendly and helpful! He assured me that he would make sure I got in as soon as I got there and they would help me figure it out. As soon as we got there (around noon), the guys got to work. I went in for a simple oil change. The tech who met me (after I stood in the empty waiting room for 5 minutes) told me it should be about 35min. I told him that should be fine and he took my keys and went into the shop. An hour and 20min later my car finally finished. He rang me up, just short of $60, for a simple oil change. Clearly seeing my shock he then informed me that my engine will need new heads, a battery, new transmission, deferential, and power steering fluid to boot. I then informed him that no less than 2XXXmi ago the entire was rebuilt and everything was replaced. After being told this the tech then told me that in fact my engine did look great. I'm lucky I'm knowledgeable enough about cars to know I was being ripped off. Please, do your homework before you go here, and if you can, do not under any circumstance go here. read more

I took my car in for an oil change and was told the cap on my oil pan had lost its threading - therefore if they used a tool to remove it they may not be able to get it back on - I would need a new oil pan and the part with the labor would cost around 750. They printed the estimate and I drove to another local shop (Car X on dempster in Skokie, IL) - At Car X they changed my oil and never mentioned anything about the threading on the cap of the pan being broken. I called Midas and told them that they had lied to me and the "manager" was unapologetic and didn't seem bothered by the fact that his service man had lied to me. what a joke rip off .I went there because my muffler was loud. Talked to Scott told me he was the manager / owner. Told me I need a complete muffler system.I asked him how much he said anywhere from 1200 to1500 not including tax and shop fees.He told me my converter was good and I needed a flange also o2 sensor.I said I could not afford 1500.00. He told me he could not give me a free estimate. What a joke. I saw customers come in and wait cause he was washing his car. after5 min. I told Scott there are customers in your shop. I left and went to Vasquzes muffler.I was told my o2 sensor was good and all I needed was a converter and flex pipe.Total price $300. out the door.I do not if Scott is really the owner.But I do know he will rip you off.Also tell you you need to put money into your car that you really do not need.So I will never return to any Midas again.This is the Midas Touch. read more

I recently purchased a Mini Cooper s and like purchasing any used car mechanical issues are sure and not far behind. I took the car to a few automotive repair shops but they were either playing the guessing game or trying to over charge me, but that all changed when brought the car to Midas in Morton Grove and met store manager Eddie. I can't say one bad thing about the guy and his staff. Eddie was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, informative, and extremely professional. He offered me a ride to work once I dropped the car off and didn't hesitate to let me know about a coupon on the Midas website that saved me some extra cash on the work I was getting done on the car... I mean cmon who doesn't like to save a few bucks especially when most repair shops try to squeeze every last cent out your pockets. They did a great job fixing my car in a timely manner and their customer service was far and few between. The Mini is happy my wallet is happy and if both of those things are happy then I'm beyond thrilled . DO NOT!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE!!!!! I brought my car in for repairs, customer service was very efficient. My brakes, front and rear, which was needed cost $700.00. I drove away and had no problems. I parked my car in my garage and did not drive till the next day, late in the day. I was driving and someone mentioned to me that my car was grinding and my brakes were bad. I HIT THE ROOF IN ANGER!!!! I called and spoke to a Manager where he told me nothing could be done until I brought the car in. I explained to them that I was taking someone to a Dinner and had to be Downtown by 7:00pm. The OWNER who is now speaking to me told me to drive the car anyway. I asked if I could get a rental car from them they told me to drive into the city to Pulaski and Irving with my 90 year old Father. I drove to the facility in Morton Grove where I was told to 'CHILL OUT" by the owner. Of course, when I got to the facility there wasn't any noise. I very nice man took it for a test drive, when he got back he informed me there was grinding. They put my car on the rack, 3 men standing around with the owner. The OWNER said to one man, 'WHO DID THE BRAKE WORK HERE. The owner then came to me and shoved, which seemed to me a metal piece the side of a silver dollar in my face, telling me I should not be blaming his shop for MY MISTAKE. I seemed to have picked up this metal piece and it lodged in the rotar of my brakes. I was so furious with the Owner prior to meeting him. I brought my 2012 Jeep Wrangler in for a routine oil change and to check the brake pads. Eddie the manager told me that my breaks were fine but I had a bigger problem with my Jeep. He said the rear axel seal on my Jeep was completely gone on the passenger side and leaking differential fluid. He brought me in the garage to show me the problem he was referring too. He told me that this could end up being very dangerous and end up being very costly if I didn't take care of it immediately. He said his shop would be able to fix it but it was a difficult and time consuming job. He said it would take him eight hours to take perform the job. So for two seal replacements and eight hours of labor he quoted me over $900.00 dollars. He said he would rent me a car and he would cover it and that mine and my friends oil changes would be on the house. Long story short I got an estimate from Sherman Dodge and the dealer who is always higher than anyone else quotes was $570.00 and my car would be done in four hours and not eight. I brought the written estimate to Eddie who did not seem too pleased and he said he would beat the estimate at $563.00. I said fine just call me with the status of my car because I was traveling to Michigan City Indiana for my sisters graduation. He guaranteed my car would be ready by 6pm and I could pick it up and he would accept payment over the phone. Long story short he called me at 5:30pm and said they could not my the parts my Jeep needed and he had to get them from the dealer the next day and my car would be ready by noon. I had to call in sick to work the next day because I had no vehicle and wasn't notified until it was too late to get a rental car. This man scammed me with the original outrageous quote and I lost a day's pay due to them. Eddie was apologetic and for my inconvenience he gave me credit for a free oil change. It ended up costing me $550.00 plus eight hours of time lost at work. Lesson learned I will never go to this shop again and I hope people read this review and learn from my mistake. read more

I do not recommend this place. They ruin your car faster than they fix it. Called ahead for oil change, said I could go in with no wait. I arrived 5 minutes after I called, set there waiting for 2 hours. After oil change, my oil scale is no longer working. They asked me to bring my car back to them to fix it when they have more time to play with the scale setting. I asked when is a good time, they replied "not sure, just keep calling or leave your car here and we will get to it when we are able." So pretty much tells me that "OK, we broke your car and if you are lucky and you are willing to let us keeping your car for a while, we may be bring your car back to it's previous condition." They will also recommend many other services that you don't need. If you have a coupon for oil change for $19.99, you will end up getting charged for $26 because all of "other" fees adding to it. Other places I went will charge you $19.99 as they ad. not adding other cost to it. read more

So I'm not usually the person to take my cars to the big franchises like Firestone or Midas, I try to get good deals and save big by buying parts online and getting then replaced at a private owned auto shop, but recently my 96 grand Cherokee cranks but doesn't STST so it was too much for me to tow it to one of my trusted shops so I pushed my Cherokee to the nearest shop by my house which was Merlin complete auto repair 200,000, which was a block away from me. So i get it there and I go inside and at the front register there was the rudest worst hospitality ever, the gentleman seemed like he hated his life and hated his job and was miserable but doesn't really bother me but anyways I told him my 96 grand Cherokee cranks but won't start and I told him it might be my crank sensor, he told me to leave it over night and they'll take a look at it and diagnose the problem and told me if its my crank sensor they'll quote me for 140$ so left it over night and the next day I go there around 5 pm and my jeeps in the same exact place and looks like they havnt even looked at it and I went in and asked what's going on, the employee tells me he got backed up and he'll take if it tommorow which usually doesn't bother me I get it.. Got busy no bid deal but I look in the shop and they have 6 bays with a mechanic on each bay and every bay was empty except one, whstever.... Comeback next day and he gives me a estimate of 680$ and tell me i need a new fuel pump.. Now at that moment I'm in my head saying "wait a minute, when I turn my key in my ignition I could hear the fuel pump pumping" so I was skeptical for a few moments but whatever.. DIDBT really think about it that much so I tell him ok thanks I will bring it back and get it done in a week when I get my paycheck. He says ok I say ok and 2 days later in back st Merlin and I had watched couple videos on how to quick diagnose fuel pump and again I turned the key and heard the pump, so as stubborn and hardheaded as I am i really wanted to confirm that's my no STSRT issue so I take the jeep few blocks east on dempster and drop it off at Midas... The awesome cool workers there told me don't worry we'll see what's up so few hours later they tell me it's my ASD (auto shut down" relay. Which is a 10$ part from autozone.... Lol anyways now I go to Midas and without telling any of the workers or managers about a diagnosed dead fuel pump I ask if it could be my fuel pump as the problem.. The manager finds and tells me my fuel pressure psi is 64 which is a good psi ans tells me not only my fuel pump is working.. But also that it looks like a brand new 2 month old fuel pump...... EVEEY employee at Midas were friendly I mean I could probably go over there now and sit and hang out with them.. Really friendly and I loved the honesty and the good work they do.. Especially Eddie.. What a awesome man dude.. Can't express how much I really like this Midas location so people if your like me buying flipping cars and you need a mechanic EVEEY every other week, just don't go to Merlin.. All I can say is try it for Your self. And if you want to confirm this review go to Merlin and take any car and ask for a full visual inspection and ask for a estimate on s repair then go to any shop you trust and confirm that Merlins right I farunteed you'll probably catch them up. I recently had a good experience with Midas and in particular with Eddie the manager and Roger the technician who worked on my car. I went to Duxler on Greenbay in Wilmette who we have done business over several years...several cars and thousands of dollars of work. That being said, my car had what seemed to be a muffler issue. I take my car to Duxler in Wilmette and they tell me I have to replace the entire muffler system on my 2010 car at a cost of $1,500.00 and it will take a week to get the system. I get a second opinion in Michigan and the tech says I don't think you need the whole system by just hearing the location of the sound. I then take it to Midas in Morton Grove and they put it on a rack and Eddie the manager said you need a $20 gasket plus labor about $100.00 total. They repair it and I take my car back to Duxler to ask why they said I needed to replace the entire system? I request they rack it and show me....the result....there is no need to replace the system....Midas had it right.....$100 vs $1500 after the work was complete... Duxler agreed they were wrong and apologized.....although they apologized I was disappointed Duxler tried to take advantage of me..Eddie from Midas was honest and fixed the problem. I told Eddie that he had my business...all three cars, in the future, so long as he does good work and continues to be honest with me. read more

the worst shop...the guy at the front desk (Eddie the guy with the glasses) the new onwer. try to sell you the parts with more money than they realy cost like 2 times more, when i told him why he charge me that much, he got realy mad. and he told to get outside from his shop. i call the same store nappa and they give me the same part for $189. and this fat guy charge me for the same part $350 + labor. do not believe this guy (eddie) when he show you how much the parts cost online. he wanna charge me to replace the alternator for a car with $450.this guy is mad. read more
