I hope corporate reads this. It's a super hot day. So I come in without an appointment. The front desk guy told me it would take a little longer because he was giving his guys extra breaks. He said it was really hot in the shop. I super appreciate this. This shouldn't mean so much but it really does. It's great to see a corporation having someone in charge that cares about their workers. It shows that even being a corporate franchise does not force you to lose compassion. Two years ago: They were my usual go-to, but I had a park light issue. The light would not go out. I had to disconnect the battery each time I parked. They said it's a problem with the make and model and recommended that I go to a dealership. A temporary fix was not offered. Well, my battery went dead while parked far from home. I called for service through my insurance company. The mechanic, after giving the car battery a jump, took some tape and applied it to some wiring behind the steering wheel and I was able to drive on home. I just wanted Midas to troubleshoot and offer a solution that allowed me to use the vehicle and so I could get to a car dealership. read more

An overpriced and unprofessional establishment. Brought my vehicle in for an inspection and was told it failed due to it needing pads and new rotors. Normal, right? the price for this invoice was $1900 which is absolutely ridiculous. Searched different OEM parts providers for my vehicle and each place had brake service kits (pads rotors, hardware and sensor) for $400 to $500. A place like this doesn't deserve to be in business upcharging that much and casually handing over a bill that large for such a simple task. That's not even the worst part though. They call and ask where my wheel lock is located ( where else would it be? Either in the glove box or the arm rest). Instead they look in my trunk and completely rip it apart. Golf bags flipped and turned, driver shoved back in and bent from being thrown in there under the bags. Oh and after I left the establishment, I had to go back because they did not return my wheel lock lmfao. Complete joke of an experience and they should be ashamed of operating a business in such manner. I guess that's Philadelphia for you though. This is why I drive out the county to get my car serviced and inspected. read more

Very rude and ignorant staff. They left the top of my car open, and when I went to pick it up the interior of my car was wet. Very poor management. Also, the female that works here lied and told me she was management so when I made my report to Midas, it was on the wrong the person. Dealing with Midas has been truly an inexperience. My car was making loud noise so I took it to a mechanic who told me I had a leak in my exhaust. He couldn't fix it in a timely manner due to backed up appointments so I took it to Midas. They told me I needed a new converter and quoted me $2800. I was about to just pay but instead took it for a 3rd opinion to Meineke. They confirmed it was a leak and I paid $700 and my car sounds brand new again. Shady tactics or inexperienced mechanics...either way steer clear!!!!! read more

Jackie was welcoming and efficient with the comic relief needed on a Saturday of chores. I was able to plan and complete my additional "adulting" errands due to the accurate time estimate given Once the inspection was complete, Kristen advised of what was required by inspection laws, as well as, additional problems to consider. This being the first car I've purchased, I was inquisitive and wanted to know why I needed what was being recommended. Kristen was informative and personable. I never felt pressured to purchase anything without understanding "why". In addition, the estimated time of completion was spot on. If you need to purchase new tires DO NOT get them from Midas. They will over charge you at least by $100 dollars. I bought four new tires at Midas in 2020 for $800+. I recently got a flat and needed to replace it but my warranty would not cover the flat tire because I used a TireFix foam. (IF YOU HAVE A FLAT TIRE, DO NOT USE FIX A FLAT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!!!!!!) Midas was going to charge me $200+ for one tire. I ended up going to NTB-National Tire & Battery and only paid $120 total. NTB also matches prices. I wishI knew better. I would have never paid $800 for 4 new tires. read more

My car needed 4 new tires and quoted a price of $1185 by Charles for a particular brand. Also, needed a tail light and quoted $525 by Jackie. I ended up going to another Midas that charged me $233 less for the tires and the dealership for my car said that the tail light would cost $225 less. Staff seems nice but yet they over charge their customers. I would not recommend there service. read more

Hello Yelp! Got my oil changed at Midas on 5/1/15 by R.Douglas great fun and sociable guy by the way everything went smoothly and the service was amazing. I observed every part of the oil change process and now I can do it myself just joking I won't but I will defiantly come back to Midas on 147 w chelten ave. I received the high mileage oil on my request which cost me total with tax 47.30$ plus I got a discount they have regular oil high mileage and synthetic all Mobile 1 but if you have your own you can defiantly bring it in and they will be more then happy to put it in for you! So to conclude this review always ask if you can get a discount and go to Midas because they are professionals and are friendly and social at the same time! I'm very disappointed in Midas I took my car to this shop Oct 11 because my check engine light came on and my car was stalling while driving I explained this to the mechanic and he checked my car and informed me it was sensor that I needed he said it was 2 codes all was sensors so I got the sensor done I left my car they called me to pick it up when I arrived and paid $1,000 for sensors they tell me I need another sensor so I say okay they order the sensor the sensor shuts my car off so they take it back off and puts my old back on and give me car and say it's should be fine. However it was not fine the next day it was worst and the check engine light came back on so I went back when I got back he informed me that he cannot tell me what's wrg with my car until I drive it 50 miles I told him I didn't feel comfortable doing that specially with it stalling and having my 5 year old child in the car he still said I have to drive 50 miles and even advised to drive it on the express like This and said we should be fine so they was putting me and my baby in danger by telling me to drive a stalling car they was supposed to fix. So now I paid them all my money my car still not fixed and he says I have to drive it at least 50 miles in order for him to tell what's still wrg with my car after I paid $1000.00 to be fixed. After getting this run around I decided to contact the complaint line they took all my information and then the general manager dave emailed me I asked if he can call me he sA o he was busy on a meeting he couldn't talk ...very unprofessional however I asked if he can call when he not busy he calls me and says he has about 10 mins to talk smh! So now he rushing me to tell him the issue I'm having at his Midas location. I explained to him the issue he just said email him when I take my car back because the light was still on and I still didn't drive 50 miles so he couldn't help me still ...the general manager dave also said I have to drive a stalling car with my 5 year old in it before they can do anything. I finally drive the car and by this time it's worst then before it's really bad my daugther was late for school Serval days we got stuck in middle of cross lights and highways because they car was stalking very very bad it was scary I was scared for my life and my baby she was not happy at All this scare the mess out of her it was a nightmare. So by this time I takes the car back e-mail dave like he said he never got back to me. The mechanic. Ray said it was the same two codes again that same up and now I have to Take it to a dealer because there's nothing they can do about. So now after I paid $1,000. For these same codes to be fixed they can't fix them I have to take it to dealer so he gave me my keys and didn't fix my car or give me my money back for not fixing my putting me and my child in danger and harms way for days being late for school everyday when she is never late. I have been calling the complaint line I'm still waiting for someone to contact me back about this issue the general manager has not reached out at all. I want my money refunded I had to take my car to another shop and get it fixed. My car was never fixed and I paid this company $1,000 and drove a car that was dangerous to drive after they was supposed to fix it. Both were very patient with me and all my questions regarding prices, compare/contrast services, and overall my indecisive nature. With 4 new tires and an oil change, I walked out broke but completely happy with the services provided to me. I even showed up as they were closing because of my job with both Jackie and Charles still positive and assisting me as needed. Charles even went out of his way to check my wiper fluids and add as needed! Much appreciated for these kind of people in the world! I brought my car in today because of a flat tire. The staff at this location was able to squeeze me in and give me a quick diagnosis. I needed a new tire so I had them replace it. The manager, Fran, was very professional, helpful and honest. He advised me that I would need break pads and rotors soon but not immediately. I appreciated this information and I will definitely be back to this location. I also witnessed Fran and his staff helping other customers - they were not pushy and let the clients make the decisions about repairs/replacement parts and they weren't forcing anything on anyone. I am a graduate student. Money is very important to me at the moment atleast how I spend it. I walk in (today) at 12:30 pm and was forced to wait 2 hours for an inspection that led to me having a quote of 1,497.53$. I knew some bs was happening when the woman behind the counter walked in and sat next to me explaining multiple unspecified chassis damages were present. I paid the 47$+ tax and took my car and nappy head home. before leaving I asked for a copy of our transaction as a point of reference.I can not make this up..... Before I leave she casually says the only thing keeping you from passing inspection is new tires. pep boys has a saleof 4 tires going on for sub 300$ and installation for 90$. why would she fabricate irrelevant bills??? Do not go to this place without a mindset of getting very simple jobs done. I'm talking oil change level. also expect to wait a long time for a simple job despite an appointment. and work that does not have a set price is liable to inflate in price. A simple inspection gives them too much power to lie. please just go somewhere else. Update 7/10/2019: I replaced my tires due to the upcoming winter season. I was able to change all 4 tires with brand new tires with mount and balancing for a fraction of the cost by purchasing tires online and having them put on at a local mechanic. read more

I took my car to have the oil changed here. They called and told me I also need brake service, which would cost about $250. I scheduled that for a later time to give myself time to look into it before spending that much money. I was told I needed the pads changed, and that I would get a promotional rate ($99.99 per axle, not including service charge and tax). After further research, the price for pads seemed reasonable. When I brought my car in, the woman at the front desk confirmed the ~$250 price with me. She also said I'd be able to pick my car up before the office closed (I got to my 2:30pm Saturday appointment more than half an hour early, and the shop would close at 5pm. I needed to get my car back that day or I wouldn't be able to get to work on Monday). I didn't get a phone call until 4pm, at which time they said I'd need to have the rotors changed too, and the price would total $690+. They also didn't expect to finish it by closing time. I told them 'no thank you,' paid them their $23 for "inspecting" (which I thought had already been done at my oil change, when they said I needed new pads) and I took my car to another shop. The rotors did need changing, and I paid a local shop half of what I would have paid at Midas. I will never go to Midas ever again, and I will always advise friends/family to avoid them. They've lost a customer by being shady, if not outright dishonest. What should have been done differently: the shop should have informed me about the possibility of needing new rotors after my oil change (not just the pads, as they originally told me); or at least when I dropped my car off for the brake service and asked about the pads, they should have mentioned the possibility of any car needing new rotors. Plus, the company shouldn't charge such a high rate for these services/products. If a local shop can charge half what Midas charges and still turn a profit, how is Midas' price competitive? I guess they just hope customers won't get a 2nd opinion elsewhere. read more

I took my car to Midas after getting a windshield wiper promotion in the mail. In addition to getting my oil changed and the promotion windshield wipers, the mechanics discovered a dirty air filter (engine). I am highly satisfied with the service done to my car and level of professionalism displayed at this location by Winton and the manager on site. I had a chance to speak with both of them regarding my car. I will be back to this location in the future. On 8/30/2016 I took my vehicle to Midas in Germantown on Chelten Avenue - for the yearly State Safety Inspection. I was told the cost would be $39.99. I left the vehicle with Midas and was told I would receive a call when the inspection was complete. Approximately one hour later I received a call from Midas Manager, Kristen Conway who advised that my vehicle needed "2 F Premium Rotors; 1 Air Filter, Computerized 4 Wheel Alignment, and Brake Labor that would cost anywhere from $400 to $500. Ms. Conway stated that these items were needed for my vehicle to pass inspection. I told Ms. Conway not to do any work on my vehicle and that I would pick it up within the hour. When I arrived at Midas for pick up I was told that my vehicle had been given a "5W30 Full Service Oil Change" prior to her telephone call. She added that if - I decided to have the recommended work performed - she was "willing to work with me on a payment plan". While initially at check in I had been told there was a flat charge of $39.99 for the State Inspection - I was charged $76.97 instead. On 10/06/2016 I took my vehicle to Pacifico Marple Ford/Lincoln Dealership at 3015 West Chester Pike, PA for a Safety Inspection. I spoke with the Service Manager, Maria J. D'Annunzio and asked that my Brakes be checked because Midas recommended that I get front brakes and rotors, and an alignment. Pacifico Technician Sttearns, Richa performed the brake check and found the brakes did in fact pass Safety Inspection even though Midas said it did not. Midas also performed Emission using 5/30 weight oil - when 5/20 is required for my vehicle! My vehicle Passed the Multi Point State Inspection - without a hitch. The service that I received at Pacifico Marple Ford/Lincoln was excellent. Not only did they give me peace of mind regarding the safety of my vehicle, they saved me from spending several hundred dollars for vehicle service that I did not need. Pacifico also put me in a complimentary 2014 Lincoln MKZ loaner for a day and a complimentary car wash to my vehicle prior to pick up. My entire experience at Pacifico has been one of the best experiences that I have had with any automobile dealership - ever! By comparison - while at Pacifico Marple Ford/Lincoln Dealership, I received professional; honest, excellent workmanship and service, but at Midas I did not! read more

Happy Friday Jr Yelps readers!!! I wanted to share my experience at Midas located at 147 W Chelten Ave in Philadelphia, PA. I went in for a routine oil change and was serviced by Kristen and Hamid. I called and spoke with Kristen prior to going and her phone etiquette was very inviting and was the deciding factor for me to go and have the oil change. When I arrived I was greeted promptly and was taken care of without having to wait. Hamid was throughout, he explained everything they did and told me in depth the things I needed to get done. I decided to have all my repairs taken care of, not because they were urgent, because they weren't, but because of the grade A service I received from Kristen and Hamid. they represent the Midas brand in a positive light and I am not a fan of chain replaces. They definitely swayed me. I appreciate this experience and I would suggest this location to anyone for small or minor repairs. Kristen and Hamid has gained a new customer in me. My humble request, please stay away from these people. Dishonest people should not be in this business. These folks said that they needed to change the power steering fluid on my vehicle. Charged me almost 120 for the whole thing. Turns out my car is has a electric power steering system (Nissan Rogue 2016) which I did not know until I took it to a different shop. It was mistake on my part to not know about my own vehicle but more than what I hate is I was a regular customer to these people for over two years. Every time I would visit a shop, they would draft a bill of over 100 bucks. I never felt that my car was in good condition, even if I did regular servicing. Never coming back again. These people are not good. Please stay away. You can get much better service elsewhere. read more

Work done and the new price was 1000+ So since I was there I let them do the job after 6hrs waiting it was finish they told me so so after 4 months driving my car it had the same noise and problems so I took it back and they gonna tell me they mite have purchased a bad set of struts....my view of this is they never fix my car and took my money so now I'm back here at the same one cause I can't go to a different Midas y???? Place is terrible, i had a slow leak in one tire, arriving at 9 AM to ask if it could be repaired. It took them over an hr just to tell me that they couldn't fix it but had to replace it. That's fine. They didn't tell me that they didn't even have a tire to do so on site. Another 2 hrs later and I was still waiting. All in all over 3 hrs for ONE NEW TIRE to be put on. I took my car to the Midas on Chelten Avenue for state inspection. They told me that for the car to pass the safety inspection, it would need $900+ in work. They charged me $52 for the emissions inspection (which passed), and I told them I'd take my car elsewhere for a second opinion and any needed work for the safety inspection. When I had my car inspected at a Honda dealership the next day, the car PASSED inspection. I like to believe the best in people, but unfortunately these folks are crooks. read more

The service for mechanical issues is fantastic. Diagnostic testing of my battery and starter and alternator was perfect. While there I also purchased tires. That's when I made my mistake. The objective of paying premium prices for name brand services is to be able to get the same quality service and honored warranties anywhere there is a midas. Well I was rejected at 2 midas shops when I tried to get the tires serviced. I found myself driving all the way back home to my local shop to get work done. What a waist of a Saturday morning.
