Update: I had my car towed to another service station on 7/15. They checked my oil and for oil that's 3-days old it came out sludge black. (See video). There were metal shavings in the oil filter. Car is inoperable and will take $$$$$$ to fix. Not saying there is a direct correlation from Midas oil change (or lack of) to my car engine blowing but it is an odd coincidence. ---------- [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went in for an Oil change and AC diagnostic and recharge on 7/12. The shop is 5 mins from me, and so I go to check if anyone is there. Everything is closed, my car is outside in the open, and I don't know if it's been repaired or not. I had no word they were keeping it overnight, nobody let me know. The front staff also seems miserable and like they don't want to be there. Why not a "no star" option? Bait & switch - I went to this place before to change my oil, used 5w-30 for my Camry 2007 LE 4 cylinder. When I went again last week, using the HEB coupon $18.00, the staff and manager would not change oil using 5w-30, only full synthetic oil because it was a "high-mileage" car - which is wasn't, just cleared 98k miles. The car oil cap clearly says 5w-20 or 0w-20 so full synthetic is optional. See attached pic. Typical bait & switch - get me in using a coupon then force me to upgrade to full synthetic. I brought my car there the end of September was told they completed half of the work but needed the payment through PayPal in advance because it was a specialty part. That was the first red flag. I did not feel comfortable and went to the location and they made me pay for all the work upfront, but said they still were waiting for the other part. Each day I would call looking for an update, they NEVER called me to keep me informed with what was going on or an accurate wait time for the part. Each time I was told it would be there the next day and completed. EVERYTIME I called. Fast forward to them having my car for 3 WEEKS and many excuses as to why they didn't have it. I finally had enough and had it towed to another mechanic shop. Upon them taking apart my vehicle they said that no work had been done and the piece they supposedly replaced hadn't been. THEY ARE CROOKS AND OVER CHARGE FOR WORK THEY DONT EVEN DO. I don't know how Google has them ranked at 3.6 stars because I haven't heard a single good thing about this location. So they have my car, won't answer the phone, very unprofessional. Try to charge me $325 for a piece (radar bracket) I picked up from the dealership for $119. They replaced the piece after giving me the worst attitude in the world about bringing my own part. But they couldn't reprogram my wave radar after telling me specifically that they would be able to, and that's why the labor costs where so high. I requested a manager call me to talk to me about why I have to pay any labor costs, since I still have to pay the dealership $400 to recalibrate. Haven't heard anything, and every time I've tried calling back to see what they expect to me pay, I get no answers. So now they've had my car 3 days for a job that takes 1 and I'm going to have to go to the shop so they can't ignore me anymore. This particular Midas is great! Only because of its location. NOTHING MORE!!! Other than that, this is a bad place to go. I went there for the first time ever on 09/18/19 because I believe in the promise of Midas as a brand name. I need to have my engine trouble/warning light on my 2008 Toyota Prius checked-on. Sean told me the inverter water pump needs to be replaced and if I have them do the service the diagnostic fee will be waived. Again, with my confidence and trust I gave him a go signal. He said that the replacement part is on back order and will take a while, told him to order it and in the meantime I could still drive my car safely for short distances only. He said he would call me once it arrives so they can replace and fix it on my car. I clearly advised Sean to rather email me directly since I cannot use my phone at work. Waited for more than a month, I let that passed and kept my patience in check since I already paid for everything. I called yesterday around 3pm. Sean said he would call me back. Never got a call, then he left me a voice mail this afternoon (today's date is 10/25/19) around 10 past 12 noon saying the ordered part arrived. I went there around almost 4pm, I saw the box/package with Toyota printed on it, he opened it in front of me, gave my keys and they worked on it until around almost 6pm. When It's done a mechanic handed me my key, he never introduced himself, However the dashboard monitor will not turn on, the mechanic said okay I will let them know inside. Stayed on my car trying to wait if it would come back on and if anyone from Midas will see me at least to say something, nobody did. When I tried to go back to the office, I saw that they are already closed. I drove my car home driving slowly and carefully since I don't know what speed I'm driving as the dashboard is not on. I did my own research online and fix it myself until late night in this cold San Antonio weather. What a great f*** service!!!!! I waited for a very long time until i was delivered, they put the part on my car and I get this???!!!!!!! It seemed like they do not need my business at all. I paid my bill with my credit card, got back into my car (my car smelled like pot) went home and got on groupon only to find out that because it was longer than three days I couldn't get my money back! Sooo i have some pros and cons for my visit, first off I called around 11 and was able to get an appointment at 12 for a wheel alignment and oil change which I showed up on time and was able to get taken care of the second I walked in, the front desk man was really nice and helpful and told me the wait would be 1- 1/2 hours long. well about 2 hours later it was ready to go and I took off not long I noticed there wasn't a sticker on the window with the recommended oil change date so I called right after to let the guy at the front know and he told me to go back and they would take care of it, but I was on the way to the store and afterwards had to drop groceries off at home when I got home I asked my brother in law if he could make sure they had changed the oil because I had noticed maybe 1-2 men running around working in the garage so maybe they forgot to even do the oil all together well when he opened The hood a bit smoke came out and we had noticed whoever had been working on the car forgot to put the lid back on so the oil had gone everywhere and so I hurried to the store to which they were able to clean it and put the sticker back on fast. This shop only received 1 star, as I was not allowed to leave the field blank. I don't appreciate being lied to on the phone. I dropped off my vehicle for an oil change on a Monday at approx 1:15 pm. I called at 3:37 pm, for a status, and I was advised that my vehicle was being worked on. Funny thing is that I work across the street and I could see my vehicle from my office window. I told they guy that he was lying to me, because I could see my vehicle. He said called out to someone and and said that they were on the way out to bring my vehicle into the bay. I sat at my desk and watched for my vehicle to move. My vehicle did not get moved until 3:57 pm. I will never return to this shop again. If I cannot get an honest answer regarding the status of my vehicle, how can I trust that I will receive honest feedback regarding the condition of my vehicle. My car barely made it into the shop yesterday evening about 5 pm and needed multiple engine repairs/maintenance. They fixed it and had it running great by 630 even they were busy. Rick was awesome in the garage, taking me through the cost of each item and helping me out where it was possible. The mechanic did a great job, clearly taking pride in his work cleaning the block/engine and having my car running well quickly. Midas gets a bad rap but looking at price comparisons, the work on my car was the same or less than most shops would charge and they did a great job. The reviewers complaining went into a shop without having called prior to see how busy it is and then complain about not jumping over everyone else in line when they get there? If the complaint is speed, that is the vehicle owner's responsibility to find out if it's busy at the time or how long something will take. Just because it is a short repair doesn't mean you get to jump over others that have been waiting in my opinion. Will be back in the future. read more

Ben has been the only help in the past 2 months my car has been there, but even with Ben having good updates for me and the engine part needed coming in last week I still was met with vague dismissive answers by Daniel as to why my car isn't done yet as well as what needs to be done on it still. I have put myself over 3k in the hole just on the payment they required me to secure to even start on my car and 2 months later i still have no car, no money due to paying for transportation and the payday loan payments, and no specifics concerning what is left. I was promised my car would be prioritized and that if it couldn't be it'd be sent to another store where it could be. This store is a stain on Midas's reputation and I demand compensation for the sheer amount of money I've lost waiting on this mess. Even with the auto workers strike supposedly causing the bulk of the waiting time, that still doesn't excuse the lack of communication and dismissal (or even rude in some cases) customer service from half the crew there. The estimated date of completion keeps getting pushed back even with the part there now and the promise of prioritization, and if my car isn't ready by the end of tomorrow I'm raising hell. I have an old car that always has something going on with it. The guys are very personable and informative. I've never worried about them making stuff up because they always invite me out to see whatever it is the problem is. They're always good about getting parts quickly and communicating with you. I usually stay in the lobby so that I can have the benefit of seeing whatever work they're doing. As long as you have realistic expectations on wait times and aren't stupidly unprepared (who doesn't have a tablet with some movies and books on it at all times?), it's not a big deal. I know some people have no sense of perspective and get impatient, but as much as we put our lives on the line whenever we get on the road, why would you want that work rushed? If you're impatient, go to another shop that will cut corners. You'll regret it later. I've done my last twenty or so repairs here. read more
