Came in on a Saturday close to closing time with a sound coming from the driver right side of the car that sounded like my wallet letting me know to buckle up for a ride. In all seriousness, it essentially sounded like my front brake caliper was holding on by a thread tapping, grinding, and smacking against everything. The service team was able to get eyes on and pull the car in the shop and on the lift, and let me know a rock from the loose gravel of Minnesota in winter was to blame. In and out in 10 minutes. Easy to make an appointment online, but the older gentleman at the front counter was really rude and condescending to a person who walked in who didn't speak English as their first language. It was really uncomfortable to witness. In addition, I brought my car in for an oil change and was told while there that I needed four new tires. I'm sure I did, but I wasn't offered a selection, just told which ones they'd put on and how much they would cost. I would have liked more information, but I agreed, and their work seems good. For most shops, you have little interaction with anyone else there--customers or staff. Here, it is the exact opposite. The staff is not just friendly, but a riot! You'll often find Royce and Taylor behind the counter, using that counter space like a stage. What that stage holds varies by the minute, but you can bet your tuchus these two will make you laugh, educate you on BBQ, trade BBQ techniques with you, provide car advice, talk about life... Called Midas early in a Saturday morning regarding a weird metal clinching sound in my tire. I was absolutely panicked and the staff Luke (or Lucas) was outstanding in handling my vehicle. I was able to drop it off and they found the issue and didn't charge me for its removal. Since my car was there i figured I was overdue for an oil change and without hesitation, they were able to fit that into their day as well. Granted I was able to leave my car for 45min-1 hour which was fine with me because they were working me into their already set schedule. Came in for some issues (my steering wheel was shaking and car was veering to the right) could've been a number of things but was hopeful that it was just a bad tire or car need an alignment. Walked in an explained what my car was doing and met with a condescending attitude right off the bat. "That's definitely not going to be alignment it's going to be a whole other problem." I left and a couple hours later they call me back to let me know what they found. Right away, "well it's the alignment but you'll also need to get 4 brand new tires that's going to cost a little over $1000." I said I didn't have the money to do that today and how about just replacing 2 tires because it seems like it's my front passenger side tire that's causing the issue. "We can do two tires but it's still not going to fix the issue." I declined and went to pick up my car because I know someone who can help me for free. Picked up my car and asked for a printed out diagnostic report. They declined and said they sent me a link by text message of the courtesy inspection. The inspection didn't mention anything about an alignment and was a report of why all my tires are bad. Brought my car to the family friend. He took a look at all the tires and said all look good besides the front passenger side. He decided to move my front tires to the back and back tires to the front to see if that would fix the problem of the car veering off to the right. And right away when testing out the drive, the car wasn't pulling to the right anymore! Took that tire off that we knew was the problem and there was a bulge in it. Nowhere in the diagnostic did it say anything about this tire being bulged out. This tire was the culprit. Found a used tire that is basically brand new. Popped it on to the car and wow, the problem isn't there anymore! Funny how that works. Long story short, they really were trying to take advantage and scam me into paying $1000 for 4 new tires because that was the only way it would fix my problem. I'm very disappointed and this is why I don't trust repair shops. I brought it in because I wanted a professional opinion. They shot me down when I suggested that it was probably a simple fix and didn't even diagnose that it was 1 bad tire that was causing the issue. This is just one of those stereotypical cases where you take your car into a shop for something minor and they tell you that you absolutely need to fix 5 others things on it. read more

They actually told me that I should take it to my dealership to get something fixed because it was a better deal than what they could do for me because of warranty. So nice. This Midas is truly one of a kind. Their service, communication and attention to your needs is unparalleled. I recently had an issue with my car last week where I needed help not knowing what could bring wrong I went to a dealership. They wanted $150 just to tell me what was wrong. Sooooooo I called Midas. Shawn the manager answered and I told him what I was experiencing and he immediately went online started talking me through the problem and then said to come in and let's take a look. Within minutes service associate, Wyatt tested my car at no cost and gave me a clear answer and broke down the cost clearly and with noooooo added fees. I came here to get a ride-share inspection completed on my car. I was able to make a same-day appointment, and they were flexible when traffic had me running late. The staff was polite and cheerful. I was quoted that the inspection would take a half hour, and they completed it in about 15 minutes. I appreciated the complementary sodas and coffee in the waiting area. My only suggestion would be that when I pulled into the lot, it was difficult to discern where I should be driving/parking my car and whether the garage doors would be opened for me. Not really sure where to begin. I went in for a standard Lyft inspection and then they told me that they'd have to fail me unless I got new brake pads and a new brake caliper. (Around 725$ of work). I want to trust them but I just got some car work done at another shop a couple of weeks ago. That particular shop couldn't do Lyft inspections but they did a full courtesy check that said my brakes were "OK" So all and all I feel very uncertain. I want to trust that Midas was being honest but I can't help but feel a little unconfident. My brakes felt fine prior and feel basically the same now. So not sure if I just threw over 700$ down the drain. read more

More than 6 months ago, in Feb 2011., when temp was -20, and I was in FL, my house sitter had use of my car, an older Nissan. It died one night and he had it towed to the Midas garage as it was a AAA place. Over the next couple of days I negotiated over the phone from FL with them and had repairs made. I was nervous and assumed my absence from the city would be taken advantage of. However, they treated me really really well and within days the car was on the road again. Several months later, I had to have an alternator that they had installed replaced. (Sometimes, parts are just crap and I got one). I drove in to their place at 2p and by 3:30p I was on the road again! Fantastic. No appointment had been arranged or anything. While there, a young technician also spotted the cause of some electrical problems that my fancy-pancy-pricey Nissan dealer (Luther in Inver-Grove) could not figure out and it had been problematic for a month. It was such an obvious problem ... like an 18-20 year old with a brain could figure it out. They fixed that too! and an a month of headaches disappeared at the same time. Thanks, guys! I actually took my car here because of all the great reviews, but it was a bad experience. First, I asked for an oil change, but they tried to sell me brake pads by telling me my brake pads were shot. When I didn't want to do anything but the oil change, they finished it, but when I drove away, my alarm light came on, there were concerning noises, and oil was leaking from my car. They admitted they had made an error. So, they not only didn't do a good job, but they broke something that was fine before. If you're a female considering whether or not to bring your car to a Midas location in the Twin Cities, this review is for you. I'm a female in my twenties, and I took my car to the Midas Excelsior location (4200 Excelsior BLVD) for an oil change. They did a courtesy check and said that my wheel bearing needed to be replaced. I ended up getting the bearing fixed at the location. When I took my car to another mechanic, he said that the bearing was sealed and didn't need to be packed. Midas charged me $40 to have the bearing packed, which they shouldn't have done, period. Midas lauds itself for its trust, but I find it hard to trust a company whose employee charged me for a sealed bearing and then also included a charge for it to be repacked. I don't know much about cars, so if I hadn't talked to a different mechanic, then I wouldn't have known what this Midas location had done. This makes me wonder how frequently this happens to unsuspecting patrons. I was able to get it refunded, but I've completely lost trust in Midas. I will never take my car to one of these locations ever again. read more

I have a fairly used car around 48K miles. I usually go to my dealership to get all services done but I figured I would try out Midas since I've gone to one in a different location before and liked it. This Midas is also close to where I live so I didn't have to drive all the way out to my dealership. But boy was that a mistake! I went in thinking I would just get a quick and simple oil change and the guy comes back telling me I need all sorts of things. First my oil change needed to be synthetic so instead of paying 19.99 as advertised on their windows, I ended up having to pay 49.99. Then he comes back and tells me my air filters needed to be changed because it was dirty and that was going to cost me 39.99. This wasn't that big of an issue because if it needed to be done, then so be it. But you can imagine my frustration of thinking I would only be spending $20 for an oil change but in reality, I spent $80 (I had a $10 off coupon). BUT THEN the guys comes back again and tells me all 4 of my struts are leaking and that i needed to get those replaced immediately. The repair was going to cost me $1,500!! By this point, I'm calling bullshit on EVERYTHING this guy is saying. I had just gotten my car checked at my dealership when it was 40,000 miles. There was no way something so extreme could have happened in 8,000 miles. So I called my dealership to make an appointment and have them check it out. Turns out, my struts are COMPLETELY FINE and I definitely did not need it to be replaced ANY TIME soon. I can't even believe I trusted these people to change my oil. They are either really bad mechanics who don't know what they are doing or more obviously, JUST COMPLETE CROOKS! They are obviously trying to take advantage of the fact that I am a woman and don't know much about cars. Well, I may not know much about cars but I do know when I am being SCAMMED!
