When I stopped at this foodcart a sign said this way to the cities best cheeseburger - well let's see: I ordered the deluxe one that comes with all the fittings plus bacon and all their burgers come with two smashed patties (well the jr can set you down to just one Pattie) And I wanted to try their chicken nuggets - just cause I am still on the search for better then McDonalds nuggets haha. Ok then the food came out. There is plenty of space to sit around and consume the food fresh and that is important for a review. Let's talk about the nuggets first. They have been really good and if I would ever end up here again I would order them again. The burger I have to be honest disappointed. I just recently had a monster smash burger and this one was everything like theirs. The patties have been ok and the fitting are ok but nothing special. The bacon was thinly sliced pieces not really crispy and most disappointing was there was one slice of cheese and not much of their smash- sauce. That all lead to an extremely dry burger that wasn't as hot as the one I had at monster. I would not compare a brand to another but they said it's the best cheeseburger in town and so I'll had to compare it. Let me tell you it's a ok burger but by far not the best in town. On the good side as said it is a ok burger (better then any killer burger ever be) and it's extremely fair priced with prices starting at $7! I have to take away one star tho for claiming something you are really far off. It might have even be a different game if you would have had put a second slice of cheese in eternity the two patties. But you decided not to!

Solid burger and super quick service! The patty was cooked just right, though a little on the dry side nothing a few ketchup packets couldn't fix. Definitely a great spot for a fast, satisfying bite. Definitely coming back!

Good prices. Small menu. Next to Level Beer and can bring the food in or the drinks out of the brewery. Just a good simple smash burger. I got a smashy boi, I just wanted a small quick burger and fries. It was simple but juicy with crispy cold lettuce. Definitely 80/20 or more. The meat wasn't grisly at all. It's just a food cart outside of the brewery, with picnic table seating that is mostly covered. The staff greeted me nicely and the food came out fast and hot. Would come again.

We step up to the cart now located at Level Beer at 2pm on a Saturday and can immediately order. This isn't our first time at MidCity. We tried the smash burgers here when they first opened during the pandemic and were pleasantly surprised. Now MidCity operates a few locations but this one that moved from close by in SE still resonates with me. The prices are reasonable, service friendly and quick. I appreciate the food is made to order here. We wait less than 10 minutes. Mr. James Fries are smothered in nacho cheese and signature sauce. We devour them. Swimming in summertime has made us hungry. The nugs, chicken nuggets with barbecue sauce are very tasty. Deluxe smashburger very tasty, although a little messy. That's to be expected I guess. If you're like us and have a craving for a tasty burger hit up MidCity. You can't go wrong especially if you like to enjoy a burger with a nice brew.

$6 smashburger? Say no more and count me in. I thought the $8 smashburger I had a couple years back was a good deal, but this is just unbelievable. Also, can't beat the fact that the food cart is right outside of a taproom with plenty of outdoor seating. We got smashburgers, and some nuggets and fries to share. Burgers were a good size and super flavorful. Nuggets and fries were also great, plus the amount of fries you got for $4 was amazing. Would absolutely come back here to enjoy some delicious and cheap eats with a nice beer from the taproom.

I ordered the Smashy Boi and a side of fries, and everything was fantastic. The patty was grilled to perfection, with a beautifully crisp lacing around the edges. Despite how thin it was, the flavor was incredible. The buns were buttery and soft, complementing the patty perfectly. The Smash Sauce was tasty, but I found myself wanting a bit more of it. The fries were on the salty side, but the ranch did a good job of balancing them out. Although this is a food truck, you can sit inside the bar behind it, which is such a thoughtful touch--especially during colder months. The bar itself had a great vibe, adding to the overall experience. I'll definitely be back, maybe with a slightly different order. Amazing food and a great setup! Highly recommend.

Phenomenal. I'm surprised there are not alot of smashed burgers around. For $6, you get a McDonald's sized cheeseburger with 10x more flavors packed in one. Simple and fast. Good amount of street parking and it's not a busy road as long as you park on the backside. Located in one of the smaller pods but lots of seating. Service was fast, we got our order of three burgers within 5 minutes.

"Hot and Crispy" fries. We couldn't pick them up without them breaking. Had to use a fork.....which they did not provide.

Took the family on a Saturday night. Not a busy night, but somehow felt like we were bothering them by ordering an item on their menu: Bag of Burgers. Dude taking our order made it clear with a negative tone that this "item is leaving the menu, ASAP". (I have zero clue why I need to hear/know that). Also, 20% is the lowest tip offered without "customizing" it...awkward situation when the order-taking-dude is cranky. Nonetheless, burgers took about 30min and included both french fry items on their menu. Fries are advertised as "hot at crispy"...they were like French fries from highschool. Soggy, not crispy. Couldn't pick up a French fry from either batch, so mushy they broke when attempting to pick them up. Avoid them. Burger meat is very good, sauce was great....but I had to take 2 bites to get any sauce. Bummer. We were excited to try it after reading a gushing news article about "their story" from New Orleans. Between the interaction at the counter, the mushy fries and then skimping on sauce....we were let down, for sure. Far better products all over town.

Gave this truck a try today. Not impressed! There were two operators on board, at 14:50 on Saturday, and no line waiting. Order placed after seven minutes of waiting to be acknowledged, but was told to wait for the buzzer thing in about twenty more minutes. Sat down to wait. After thirty minutes our order came out. One big deluxe burger (two patties) plus fries and one plain burger (two patty) Only American Cheese was offered. Large burger had pickles that were to be removed on the order. Crinkle l-cut fries looked good (but likely arrive to the tuck frozen) and lacked any seasoning. Overall, a nice burger at a high price. It has been compared to McD (I don't know, not a customer of that chain) Setting okay, but only two trucks in place. Some sketchy people including zoned out street person sleeping head down on the covered table. Another homeless person with baggage got a water (at the Mexican food truck) and soon left. Disappointing!!

10/10 for how quick they were! I waited maybe 2 mins. With that said the burger was okay.... Simple. I also got the Mr. James style fries thinking they would be a good addition. They were also just okay. This was a good cart so parking is sparse. The staff was friendly and the price was cheap. They have two picnic tables for seating. Overall, it was good for what we needed in the moment but I'm not sure I will be back. read more

This place is everything you'd hope a Burger joint to be. The simple burgers done right meet cheese bread and a Burger sauce you need to come here and at $5 each you know you know you want a second period period oftentimes burgers have gotten out of control especially in Portland you're paying 1314 $15 sometimes a Burger crazy crazy crazy they have 700 things on them A backstory a biography they have their own merch... What happened to the good old days of a spray painted Sis brae painted sign a guy smashing burgers into oblivion and slap them out by the time you're done ordering... The days when doing something simple and right is what made it special not just it being overly complicated... If you haven't tried Midcity Smash Burger yet- RUN don't walk! This food truck is located on SE Stark in Portland. The burgers are fresh and juicy and we love the smash sauce! The fries are classic crinkle cut and you can get them Mr. James style doused in cheese and smash sauce. Of course we went with that option and were not disappointed. The atmosphere was fun and I don't know of another area you can get $5 burgers that taste THIS good! read more

I don't even know what to say but I have never had a smash burger before so this was a virgin experience. With that said, I exclaimed OMG between every bite. I love ketchup and while there wasn't any to dip my fries into, it really didn't need anything. It has some kind of seasoning on them that just stands on it own. Their music created an awesome scene and the food was ready almost immediately with a steady stream of people. I don't leave that many reviews but I couldn't pass up the chance to share this one! read more

Can't beat the price or the taste. Sometimes you want a super gourmet flavor in a burger and sometimes you just want a good ol classic burger. These are the latter and soooooo tasty. The fries are deliciously great with the nacho cheese and the smash sauce. And the burgers are awesome. Definitely recommend stopping here for some yummy food. read more

Underwhelmed. Ordered two cheeseburgers and a fry. Food was out within 30 seconds. First red flag. The beef patties were small, which honestly nbd but they were also pretty dry and burned around the edges, who knows how long they had been sitting there. The fries actually weren't bad but the portion was given was not worth 4 dollars, you're basically a small fry from McDs. Yes it's a five dollar burger, 4 dollar fry, but ya'll tweaking if you think this is worth that. Want get the best bang for your buck? Try the Loyal Legion smash burger for $5...or heck even Little Big Burgers are only $6.5 and more filling imo. Plus at least they overcompensate you in fries for their small burgers. I really don't get the hype, but I guess at least we got two lollipops. read more

Ok this place is no joke....it's a food truck in a random parking lot but don't underestimate this! What I ordered: -cheeseburgers: two smashed patties with cheese and their special burger sauce. Let me tell U about this sauce, garlic and just hella good and comforting. dare I say it's better than in n out sauce, maybe -mr james style fries: so the cashier described this like their "animal style fries" But those don't even compare to these!!! Just get them, you won't wana share it's that good -oregon cherry shake: ok I was thinking the cherry might be a weird taste, but naw this is gooooood, cherry wasn't overpowering it was a nice subtle taste with the creaminess from the ice cream Came on a Saturday around 12:45 and thankfully no line but then the crowd started showing up! Menu is straight forward and the staff were suuuuuper nice! Don't sleep on this, Just go!! read more

Look no further than MCSB for some delicious smash burgers. The key: they're $5. Get some fries and a chocolate shake, they're quite good. My partner prefers just ketchup instead of their spread but I enjoy the spread. Haven't tried the chicken nuggies yet but they're also supposed to be bussin. read more

Have you ever kissed the Statue of Liberty while Guns n' Roses plays Paradise City and Gravedigger back flips over the whole ordeal? No? We'll swing by MCSB, grab yourself a smashyboi and some nuggies and you'll know what walking on sunshine is all about. One of the best smash burgers I've had in Portland. I know Yelp only gives us 5 stars but this was a 10/10 for me. Staff answered the couple questions I had, were really nice. Food came out hot and quick. And you really can't beat the price. Also, don't pass on the milkshake. Worth it. read more

So I've eaten a whole lot of burgers in PDX... for a no frills burger this thing HITS like no other! Get 2 because you may not be hungry for the second but the amazing flava fireworks will have you wanting the experience to never end! It's seasoned so perfectly, sauced just right and smashed to perfection! 1st time, it's a small food cart in a parking lot of a building with really cool graffiti on every wall. I think there's an art collective or something in the building, But anyways, the burgers were great. You get a pretty small two patty cheeseburger for $5, the best part being the mushroom sauce I got a chocolate shake; which wasn't anything special. Very basic, and in a small kids cup. The food came out almost instantly, which was cool. Seems like they have a bit of standing tables to eat at, which are covered by a canopy. All in all, a nice spot to get some burgers. We paid $30 for two burgers, fries and chicken nuggets. It took them under 2 mins to get our food because we got OLD FOOD. The chicken nuggets were dried out and hard the burger bun was also dried out. The people weren't friendly and it was such a waste of $30. McDonalds would have been fresher and I don't even like McDonalds. read more

Slowest service I've ever experienced. 3 people here waiting and it took over 20 minutes to get one burger and a french fry. Not worth it. The other two people waiting in line have been ignored the whole time. There was a third waiting but they walked away after being ignored for so long. If I didn't already pay I would've left too. Do better. read more

Let me just say all these reviews happen to be pretty old and outdated. I recently went to MCSB and thought: "Oh what a deal 6$ burger I'll get two". The burger was the most dry piece of meet ever to be quite frank. All the flavor siphoned right out of the patty. If you are looking to eat mediocre burgers for a low price this is the spot for you! Definitely get what you pay for. Otherwise, I'd recommend Great Notions SmashBurger or even shake shack or Bless your heart burger. They seem to be substantially knowledgeable about how a smashburger should taste. read more

This place is by far one of my favorites and I eat there at least 2-4 times a week! The staff is always great and on it. They even give you suckers with your order! I've shown so many friends this place and they love it because it's that good. In my opinion their burgers are better than In-N-Out, yes I said it. Now if you haven't done it already go get some smashy boi's!! They also have gluten free and vegan options!! Go support this local business and eat all the smashy boi's read more

Never did I think I would get a fresh burger patty for 5 dollars! It may not be the best burger I have ever had, but it is a burger that I think is the best value for your money. The sauce they make is pretty good, but they are also good with having you hold the sauce or swap it for one of their side sauces. Quick, delicious, good bang for your buck, and consistent. I gave it 5 stars, because for 5 dollars I have hard time finding something that compares unless you are someone who prefers McDonalds. read more

Well that was probably the best lunch I've had in a long time. The chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious, and the Mr. James' fries were incredible. They layered the sauce and cheese throughout so every fry down to the bottom was covered. Their sauce reminds me of in n out sauce with the pickles and onions chopped up right in it, but it's so much better. I can't wait to come back and get some more of their tasty food. Location: great, I love Uptown. Wait time: it was like 5 minutes to get my food Value: $12 for my meal, I'd happily pay more for how good it was. Taste: Oh. My. God. The little cheeseburger that could with humble beginnings from a porch in MidCity, New Orleans has grown to (2) two locations in SE and N Portland. MCSB is the brain child of local chef, Mike Aldridge, who firmly believes that fast food should not only be served fast but fresh and cheap! Very convenient location at Carts on Foster just down the street from where I was staying. So I walked back and enjoyed there.
