One night, half-drunk and staring down the neon siren call of McDonald's across the street, I noticed the glow from Billy's instead. That light saved me. I walked up, last customer of the night, and was handed one of the friendliest exchanges I've had at a food counter in years. I ordered the "Simple Billy." A straight-up burger, no gimmicks. And holy hell--it cracked my top three of all time. Out of the hundreds I've eaten, this one stood out like a punchline at a funeral.
