Is this true? I ordered a PLAIN burger and it was brought out the total opposite and the manager came to our table to say "that a new law was discovered "today", that if an order is delivered to a table, the customer has to pay for it regardless"!!! On top of that, the server came back to our table and wanted to argue with me to tell me that I DID NOT order it plain. She was very rude and was shaking her head at me....with that being said, I asked for the burger "to go" and came home and gave it to my dog! This place is awesome. They're open late, the service is good, the food is incredible, they have it all. I had the quarter fried chicken (white) and it was great. It doesn't look like a place that would have good fried chicken, but looks are definitely deceiving sometimes. This was easily some of the best fried chicken I've had in this city. 4-Cheese Macaroni, tasty green beans, and even the french fries are good. I was so excited to find a diner that was open late hours and serving real diner food. Unfortunately, there were too many things about this place that I didn't enjoy that I most likely won't go back unless I'm with a group and I lose the vote. Upon entering during a busy weekday morning, we were seated pretty quickly, but the hostess and people behind the counter did not appear friendly. Our server was nice, and the orders came out after a wait, but the food was not great, and expensive for diner food. I am used to breakfast bills coming in under $20, but not here. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Midnight diner yet because I come here a lot. I think I'm actually the duke, if that gives you an indication of how much I enjoy / frequent this place. So, let's get this out of the way. The food is 5-stars ... and by food I mean Chicken and Waffles ... and by Waffles I mean French Toast. I could literally eat their Chicken and French Toast for any meal of the day and I already have. I'm guessing their other menu items are delicious as well, but why mess up a good thing. I'm dinging them a star because it gets a little cray at night. You literally have to get pat down by an armed police office in order to pick up your take-out at 2am. I mean, I'll do it because once again the Chicken and French Toast is bomb, but yeah I don't like mine with a side of potential stabbing / drive-by. I will say that there's some pretty good people watching in the after-club hours. All shapes, colors, ethnicity, creed, organisms, and nations of ratchet. From the trap stars to the drunken southern bell that missing a shoe. Priceless entertainment ... All and all, Midnight is the quintessential diner and I urge anybody to give it a try if they're in Charlotte. There for Sunday brunch this past weekend. Knew I was at the right place when we drove up! Parking lot and outside was packed . But the wait was less than the 15 mins quoted for a party of four! The french toast is excellent, real thick cut bacon, and its 24 hours! I'm a native Charlottean back in town from Atlanta. I hoped something better than Landmark would one day be added to all the new nightlife. This is that hope. I didn't find the food compromised by the diner vibe at all. The Midnight Diner is a decent place to go for traditional diner food. I ordered the eggwhite veggie omelette. While they gave me cheddar cheese instead of the Swiss that I asked for, I still ate it up. Hashbrowns a bit on the soggy side, and toast is toast. My companions each enjoyed fresh fried chicken with macaroni and cheese. They raved about this, and took their leftover mac to-go. I did not leave disappointed or hungry, but not sure that I'd return unless it were in fact, midnight (or later for that matter). read more

Honestly, I have only been once but do not think this place is worth the hype. Even after a few adult beverages, the food wasn't very good and not as cheap as I expected diner food to be. Everything just tasted like salt. Their only saving grace is that they are open 24 hours. Plan to wait if you go anytime between breakfast and 3am though. read more

I enjoy going to the diner because it's always an interesting experience watching the other patrons. One time I was in there with friends and all the customers just broke out into a sing along to the music that was playing and it was absolutely hilarious but back to the food I enjoy the food the grits are good I love the firecracker shrimp. read more

Hands down Midnight Diners Fried Chicken is wayyyy better than Price's Chicken Coops!!! The vegetables are great too. When it comes to the dessert you will need to order the Strawberry shortcake cheesecake when you first place your order. I will throw up in my mouth a little every time I think of the meal they tried to serve me here. This is a polished dump for late night drunks that don't know any better. If the food quality was just a little worse they could can it and put a cat on the label. We were there for breakfast. I had the waffles nothing to write home about. I make better waffles at home with Aunt Jemima mix. Husband order pancakes eggs sausages well over 9 dollars for that. He did not even finish his pancakes and thats normally his favorite. Enjoyed the interior.. but the food lack in taste and overprice. Took forever to get the food too. I seem to be odd man out here. I've been here several times and never had any real delay getting sitted or attended to by a waitress. Admittedly, I tend to focus on sandwiches and burgers. My wife and I have enjoyed every visit and are a quickly becoming regulars. Service is always friendly without being pushy or constantly. The manager has checked on us every visit so far as well. Personally, I would happily recommend it for some one looking for a good, reasonably priced meal. The music and memorablia on the are nice touches as well. You also must try the hand-mixed shakes, as they are excellent and remind me of what you get at the little mom & pop restaurants. read more

Had a great dining experience at Midnight Diner (at 2pm lol) because the cute brunette Jennifer (Jenn on her name tag) provided us with a great experience. She made sure that me and my friends were always full on waters and coffee, and that we had a great dining experience in general. She provided us with great conversation and she never stopped smiling when she was at our table. That's what I like to see in a server: a great attitude. I liked the food too, although the pancakes could be a lot better. :( not affecting my score, though. I got a Philly cheesesteak to go and Jennifer suggested that I separated the bread from the meat to make sure that the bread wouldn't get soggy on the way home or when I put it in the fridge for my boyfriend whom works 3rd shift. Hot, juicy fried chicken and amazing mac and cheese! Food is always so good here, I always finish everything on my plate. I don't usually like collard greens but I theirs is good! My only complaint is that the waffles aren't crisp enough but they serve them with hot syrup so it makes it all okay :) Service is good, the servers are kind and check up on you frequently. Especially great coming here after a concert in Charlotte. I love this place. read more

Went into this place with my elderly grandfather late one night, we were instantly greeted at the door and seated an the closest table. Our server, Ovie, was immediately at the table to grab us drinks. To say Ovie went above and beyond would be an understatement, at one point my grandfather jokingly asked Ovie if he would sing for us and he broke out in song immediately. While the food was delicious it was Ovie that made the experience exceptional. I will definitely be coming back with my grandfather soon. read more

It's about what you'd expect from a 24 Hour Diner that isn't notable for anything. The Diner is located in Uptown (Downtown), where the only other business open is their neighboring bottom of the barrel Strip Club. It's got a Menu full of your average greasy diner food served by fine middle aged ladies with a slew of bad tattoos to go with their bad attitudes, who are probably going to be chewing gum to cover up their cigarette breath. These lovely ladies look like they ended their tenure at the Strip Club years ago after too many cigarettes and whiskey and way too much diner food, so they just moved on over and started waiting tables for dollar tips all the same. Okay, this newish diner I'm familiar with. It actually used to reside at a truck stop in Kings Mtn where I used to live which is about 30 miles away. There are photos of the haul in the entryway. I was taken a back when I saw it nestled just outside of uptown Charlotte! What a great decision. Apparently a great spot for post-bar hopping. As with any diner, you have the old fashioned decor and jukebox in the corner. The food is good, not great. The staff is good, not great. But it is usually a mad house when I frequent at 3am. There is usually a line at the front as any local will tell you. When you're tired and wore out from dancing your ass off at the bar, you come here for replenishment and good conversation. Holy French Toast Batman. I took a friend here Saturday for breakfast as he had never been. Silly boy didn't realize what he had been missing out on. Though the line was out both doors we were still seated within about 10 mins. I like that. Our server, like always, was great with a good personality. I ordered the French Toast and it was thick with lots of flavor. The bacon was also think and not too crispy, but just perfect. The boy got biscuit and gravy which were to die for. I'm not sure what the expectations are of the other reviewers, but it's a diner, for goodness sake! It's open 24/7 and it serves up some of the best breakfast I've ever had. I selected the breakfast that comes with two eggs any style, choice of meat (I had bacon), creamy grits, and two pancakes, except I opted to switch out the pancakes for a biscuit, and added on sausage gravy. Wow. When the menu says creamy grits, it's true! They are rich and creamy, perfect for a Southern gal like me! The sausage gravy was some of the best I've ever had. The service was just right, not too much, not too little. I would definitely return. On a side note, I saw a guy there eating breakfast. He had scrambled eggs covered in ketchup (LOL) and was drinking a Sam Adams! That's the beauty of a diner: you can have whatever you want, whenever you want (as long as local law allows)! read more

Been here plenty of times and service and food have declined. Brought a visitor from Michigan arrived and waited over 40 mins for food. Three tables by us received their food and almost finished and still didn't receive any food. Waiter advised food ticket was lost. Once food received asked for manager who basically said waiter lied and ticket was lost so only gave a $4 discount for our whole party. Waiters and other staff came over and advised that manager lied and ticket was lost. Service aside what manager puts blame on everyone else!!!! Will not be going back unless management changes. We could all tell our food was sitting out for a while. read more

This establishment gives you a nostalgic diner feel with juke boxes and cute diner furniture. I was given the recommendation by some locals and the food did not disappoint. It's open 24 hours and seems to be the town's favorite for all ages. The service was great and so was the food. I ordered the firecracker shrimp which came with grits, a biscuit and fries. They provide a hefty serving so I had leftovers to take to my room! I added a side of greens to take back and boy were they delicious as well! read more

Although the staff is friendly and the food is ok+decently priced, even their to-go orders take forever= I've never waited less than 30mins for anything- including salads! Inside feels grimy, music is cranked up way too loud, the late-night crowd is a mixture of hood and trash clientele, male customers verbally harass you if you're not interested in flirting back with them, panhandlers bombard you in the parking lots... not surprised that shootings have happened on this property. I live just a few blocks away from Midnight Diner, so despite the reviews I read, I still had to check it out for myself. I don't know if the service and food have just really improved in the past two week, but my experience was pretty much the exact opposite of most of the reviews that I read. We were seated immediately, even though the place was busy at 8:00 p.m. The wait staff were nice, and got us a soft drink in lightening speed while we perused the menu. I ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans for sides. The country fried steak was awesome - exactly what I was hoping for. It was hand-breaded with a nice cream gravy. You could tell the mashed potatoes were handmade, and the green beans were just seasoned amazingly (I probably could have just had a giant bowl fo the green beans and been happy). My fiance got hand-breaded chicken tenders with mac and cheese, and had no complaints either. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering - and exactly like we ordered it. I couldn't have expected any quicker, especially since the place was pretty busy. I really have no complaints about this place, and will be back regularly. The people that I've talked to about this place also love it - one guy I know has been there 12 times already. The only negativity that I've seen/heard has been online, and not just on this website either. But I had to give my two cents after an experience that I couldn't expect to have been any better. TRIED to eat here Sunday morning (6/14/2015) at least 10 people on the clock and no one would seat us, no one even spoke to us and they weren't busy. 3 booths were occupied. The girl behind the counter seemed more interested in filling A1 bottles and gossiping with co-workers.
