Review for Midnight Diner classic, retro-style diner--the kind with a counter, cozy booths, and a nostalgic vibe. The only thing missing is a waitress calling you "hon," and honestly, that might be part of the charm. I was craving a West Coast favorite--chicken fried steak--which I quickly learned is called country fried steak here in the South. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner... it didn't matter. I wanted comfort food, and this place delivered. I ordered takeout and picked it up without any hassle. They have their own private parking lot, which is a huge plus, especially for an Uptown location. It's situated right across from the Hyatt Regency and along the light rail, so I can imagine it gets very busy--particularly if you're heading to or leaving the Spectrum Center. This is exactly the kind of spot where you grab a solid meal to soak up whatever you've been celebrating. And the food? Generous. Very generous. My order included: * Country fried steak with gravy * Mashed potatoes * Pancakes * And, because curiosity got the best of me, their coconut French toast That coconut French toast was the wildcard--and it did not disappoint. Sweet, indulgent, and definitely a treat. Between that and the rest of the meal, it was a lot of food, but I was very happy. The price point is reasonable, the service was fast, and the whole experience felt easy and reliable--exactly what you want from a diner. Next time, I'd like to sit inside and enjoy the full experience, because the atmosphere looks like part of the fun. As someone still exploring Charlotte as a foodie after relocating from the West Coast, it's always nice to find places that deliver those nostalgic comfort-food moments--and this one absolutely did. Bottom line: Great comfort food, generous portions, easy parking, and a classic diner vibe. A solid go-to spot in Uptown, especially when you're hungry and want something satisfying.

I like the retro style of this restaurant. The cashier was pleasant and attentive. I ordered To Go and had the special for the day, Cajun chicken pasta. It was $14.99, the serving size was good and it came with garlic bread which was flavorful and not too crispy. They have a large menu so I think that there is an option for everyone and I will visit again when in the area!

The Midnight Diner has long been a Charlotte staple, and while may were dismayed to see it moved from its original spot, it's loyal customers were relieved to see the original structure kept in tact and moved to another location. It's reputation is mostly known as a spot for late night parties to enjoy hearty meals including all day breakfast. Its new location is right by the Spectrum Center which makes it a prime spot for concert goers and sports fans attending events nearby. Unfortunately this also puts it right next to the bus station which has long been blighted with crime and has an unsavory reputation. While the food isn't bad by any means it isn't lights out or anything. I think nostalgia factor plays a roll in keeping people coming back. That and convenience, but the convenience isn't always in play as the service can be very hit or miss and wait times for food can sometimes be very long. I appreciate it for what it's brought to the city, but the new location just isn't the same as the old one. That being said if you enjoy retro diners, love being able to have breakfast into the late hours, or just find yourself in the area and are in need of something to eat, then you should definitely pay a visit and see for yourself.

Egg white omelet, grits, and biscuits. Perfectly cooked.

I hadn't been here in a very long time and happy to see it hasn't changed. Came on a Sunday just before it got crowded (10:45). Hostess and server were very friendly. The place is still super cute, retro, and just comfortable. I ordered a hot chocolate and it came out with whipped cream and chocolate syrup-delicious. I kept it simple and made my own omelet-egg whites, bacon and cheese. Definitely one of the best omelets in town. Fluffy and not overcooked at all. Grits 10/10 as always, and the biscuits were hot and fluffy. Great place to catch up with friends, not feel rushed, and the prices/portions are fabulous! Definitely adding it back in rotation.

We went here after a Jazz Event downtown around 9:30p. This was my first time at this location, and I was surprised in 2 different ways. Surprise #1 (bad) they don't have free parking unless you can find random street parking. The lot beside their location is a paid parking only with a 2hr minimum. Surprise #2 (good) THEY SELL BEER! (the other locations don't) Our waitress Key was polite, attentive, and had pretty good recommendations. The suggestion of Country Fried Steak w/ their Mac n Cheese and Potato Salad were really good. Potato Salad can be a hit or miss at some places especially late at night but theirs was surprisingly good. I'm used to Chicken and Waffles coming with tenders but they switch it up with fresh fried WHOLE wings. The food was fresh, HOT, and good. Could they use a bit of interior upgrades/straightening up? Yes. They also don't take any mobile pay so please have your physical card with you. 4/5 Overall

This place is kind of a landmark. Having moved the actual structure to a new location a few years ago, it's still just as popular. I think the food is good but nothing over the top as outstanding. Service has always been great and the staff is well trained to calm the chaos of those in the wait line (in a good way) so just know don't joke around with the host or hostess. They have a job to do. LOL. The restaurant is clean and always looks well taken care of. They have limited seating for a large group but they will seat you near one another if you're willing to split into groups. Over all it's fun to go to a diner but the food is very basic diner food that is good.

We came here for breakfast before our flight back home and I ordered "The works Hashbrowns". I ordered them crispy and they were cooked to perfection. Cool and retro spot, but the coffee was cold. I couldn't get over the cold coffee. Good spot if you're in a hurry.

Came to Midnight Diner for a quick bite before the Charlotte FC game. We have been here a few times before and never leave disappointed! Staff is very friendly and our waitress was extremely quick to help us with anything we needed. The food itself isn't anything remarkable, but it is great for the prices and if you want reliable, consistent service. This restaurant definitely gives you the feel of Charlotte too, as it's right in the city!! They also have a separate menu for some "lighter" options, which is something that I don't see at a lot of restaurants!

I am from Philly and I feel like one of the things that Charlotte is missing is good diner food. That being said, midnight diner met all my requirements for a fantastic diner experience! My husband and I sat at the counter on New Year's Day and had very quick service. The woman working the register who took our order was like a drill Sargent in the best way possible. She was telling everyone where the food goes and making sure that everything was running quickly and smoothly. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. The biscuits are clearly home made and the sausage gravy was perfect. They were not stingy with the gravy which I appreciate because I usually have to ask for extra at most places. The hash browns were perfectly crispy and hit the spot big time. I will most definitely be back in the future!!

Went here Sunday a little after 8:30 pm for dinner. No wait time and immediately had our orders taken upon sitting down. Staff were all friendly. Loved the retro decor and setup inside. Couldn't decide between the Spaghetti dinner or Steak, but ultimately chose the New York strip steak (9/10), cooked how I asked and seasoned pretty well. For my sides I got Broccoli and Mac and cheese they were both decent. Def see myself returning, I enjoyed my meal and the overall atmosphere. My overall rate of experience : 8.5/10

Stopped into Midnight Diner for lunch while I was in Charlotte for the night, and it ended up being an awesome find. It's right across the street from the Hyatt House, so the location couldn't have been any more convenient. Walked in, grabbed a seat at the bar, and had my food in front of me within about 10 minutes, perfect for a quick bite. I went with the Cool Ranch grilled chicken Wrap and a Diet Coke. They've got a huge menu, but the wrap was a great choice: super tasty, and the fries were excellent. Total came out to around $15 after tip, which honestly feels like a steal these days. Service was friendly and on point, and I really don't have a single complaint. Plus, the fact that they're open 24/7 makes it an easy go-to whether you're grabbing lunch, a late-night bite, or anything in between. If you're in town, Midnight Diner is a no-brainer.

What a gem of a diner in Uptown area of Charolette. Smack dab across the street from the Spectrum Center, home of the Hornets. When I was just there the 2026 March Madness Basketball was playing there, so this little diner was hopping, & staff was in full throttle! Known for their Shrimp & Grits and Homemade Chicken & Waffles. When serverApril told me their "Shrimp & Grits was off the chain!" That did it for me & it was- Creamy corn grits topped with fresh shrimp & homemade hearty Creole Sauce with moderate heat. Every spoonful was layers of flavor! What could be better than a homemade flaky, buttery Buttermilk Biscuit served with it, to slather up that yummy goodness! This hopping diner is Open 24 hrs 7 days a week, there is no excuse not to go! I will be back next time I'm in Charolette!

I know I made it look very pretty in my photos, but don't be fooled. Here is the complete review. We found the green tomatoes bland and appeared to have been frozen before being prepared. The "Gravy Train" with the mini biscuit was inedible. The gravy itself was OK. Nothing special, not one of the three were "great." But the mini biscuits were terrible, hard, dense chunks of dough. I ate one of them and discarded the rest. The "Chicken Ditch the Waffle" was equally terrible. Whatever they did to turn the biscuit into "fake" French toast is a 100% fail. They were as dense and unappealing as the mini biscuits. The chicken itself was fine. If I was only rating the chicken I'd probably give it a 3.5. The best dish was actually the "GOAT." It was served with a Standard biscuit which we thought was still too dense and dry. I recommend finding an independent restaurant that serves real, "from scratch" food. I should point out that the service crew in the dining room who delivered the food as well as provided cleanup and assistance, were exceptional. They were friendly, courteous, and focused on customer service. I'm sure they deserve more than they are being paid. It was obvious many of them were spanish-speaking immigrants. Unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. It was smaller than I expected and didn't really resemble an omelet. It was a little messy and slightly runny for my taste.
