This is my favorite casual neighborhood sushi spot and it's no competition. The staff is extremely prompt and the quality and value are both excellent. I've been to Mido twice now trying the All-you-can-eat sushi option as well as the normal a la carte offerings. After trying the AYCE option I think its a decent but pricey option. For $28 including tip you get wave after wave of a wide variety of sushi/nigiri/sashimi options they have as well as hot tea. If you choose this route I recommend the Mido roll and the Dragon rolls as they were ones that stood out from the generic other rolls we tried. Spicy jalapeno yellowtail was disappointing as the yellowtail was a mix of mayo, sriracha, and lackluster fish. The nigiri here was disappointing as well as the ones here are an example of quantity over quality. Do note that you won't be getting some of the better stuff they have when you order from the AYCE model. A la carte I had a better experience as I chose the soba sushi dinner combo. The spicy tuna donburi and soba that I received for around $18 was massive as well as tasty with each entree coming out in one of those giant bowls they use for Pho or Bibimbap. My dining compatriots got the ramen and sushi/unagi and their bowls were just as big. (Though looking at the online menu I can't seem to find this amazing combo of food) Sorta funny that some previous reviewers said this place is an all-japanese restaurant..... Place is full Korean owned lol (Which is why you'll see more fusion rolls and not some of the Japanese staples like the negiyama roll) So yeah decent food that will fill you up and one of the few places in Phoenix that will do AYCE sushi. read more

Mido Sushi is great! They have an excellent deal for happy hour, which is all day from Monday-Thursday, and from 11:30-5 on Friday and Saturday. Nigiri sushi and rolls are 1/2 price. The happy hour menu for sushi is pretty extensive, and a lot of specialty rolls are included. The rolls themselves are a large portion of fish and vegetable. The quality is pretty good, especially for the price. We ordered 6 different rolls and left very full. Even the basic rolls such as tuna and salmon have a lot of fish in them and are pretty large, compared to other sushi restaurants where your basic rolls have a tiny amount of fish, and are pretty anemic looking compared to others. We had 2 deep fried rolls with jalapeno, and they were perfectly crispy, with a nice spicy kick to them from the fresh pepper. We also tried a deep-fried chicken roll since it sounded like a pretty unusual roll. It was also delicious, with panko-crusted chicken wrapped in rice and seaweed. The free salad, edamame, and miso soup is a nice beginning to your meal. Service was cheerful and friendly. Drinks were refilled promptly as needed. This restaurant is located fairly close to home so it's a convenient place to stop when I'm in the mood for sushi. I've been a fan of Pancho since he was head chef at Sushi Hama in Tucson. Pros: I arrived in the early evening on a Saturday as was immediately able to find a seat at the bar. My initial orders were ready within about the next 10 minutes. The most obvious difference about this restaurant compared to most other sushi restaurants we visit is the noticeably larger portion sizes of the fish and other ingredients relative to the rice (see photographic evidence below). I suppose some sushi aficionados will argue about the pieces of fish needing to be the proper size, thickness, etc. when preparing nigiri. However, for me it's the sight of a nice, large slice of well marbled salmon on a ball of rice that really whets my appetite. The maki rolls are also very generous in size as well as quantity and variety of ingredients. All of the fish tasted as fresh as one could expect at a sushi restaurant in Arizona. Cons: Although the consistency of the rice was very good, I would have preferred more sugar and vinegar seasoning. The price for all-you-can eat is a bit higher than most other sushi restaurants we visit regularly. My husband is a big fan of sushi and he approves this place. I finally decided to go with him and I am sure glad that I did. They have a wide variety of entrees and sides to choose from. The Miso Soup was my favorite. I never tasted broth so rich. The tempura vegetables were also good and it was served with a nice house salad with creamy dressing. There's an all-you-can-eat sushi place in Las Vegas my boyfriend and I love and make sure to stop by whenever we visit, but we were never able to find a good quality, affordable, AYCE place near us in the AZ valley... until we discovered Mido Sushi. We stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon, and of course we decided to do the AYCE. There were SO many options for different rolls it was almost overwhelming, with plenty that I wanted to try but had to skip because I would've been waaay too full. Each roll is also pretty huge, but thankfully because of the filling and not excess rice like some other sushi places. The staff was very friendly, and it was overall a great experience. My only complaints, albeit minor ones, is that all the rolls were brought out on one big plate so if we ordered similar items it took a bit of dissecting to figure what belonged to who. There were also some rolls that were forgotten, but... it's AYCE, just order another one haha. We also got some Soju on my boyfriend's insistence, which I'd never had before. Now, I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to straight liquor and alcohol - if it doesn't have juice or some kind of mixer, I usually can't drink it. But this was the only exception I've ever found, and for the first time in my entire life was able to do a couple shots because it was so smooth, almost like water! Ever since I was very very little, Mido Sushi has been my favorite restaurant. All of the workers are as kind as they can possibly be. They make awesome sushi, the people who work there are really fun. Plus, if you go there on your birthday, they have disco lights, songs, and then the workers all come in a line singing happy birthday , and then give you ice cream (your choice of flavor). During these harsh times of COVID-19, Mido Sushi is taking great precautions to keep everyone safe. I have often not given the south valley its dues for its cuisine. This place is in my old stomping grounds and has broken that stubborn behavior that this is just the burbs. Now to explain why not the full fantastic five stars. If I could have given them an extra half star I would. I would have wanted to see more nigiri or sashimi than California Rolls. It did taste pretty amazing, something I don't often want to admit about California Rolls. Kinda like being in the closet about liking science fiction movies or video games. Now I know I ordered Boat, it's a cheesy move, but it's Boat..!!!....BOAT.!!..it comes on a Boat. Oh, and yes I consumed it all on my own with pride of a conquering overlord. This was entry level Boat it's level Boat 1, hopefully in the coming weeks I'll defeat the game bosses and level up to Boat 4 while playing hidden levels of miso soup and teriyaki chicken. Who would have thought that you could get delicious sushi made with fresh, flavorful fish in the middle of the desert? Not me...until I went to Mido Sushi. I've been making the pilgrimage here for several years and each time it's been consistently good. All-you-can-eat sushi, made to order, with a variety of different rolls included along with soup, salad, edamame -- and sashimi and ice cream for dessert if you request them. For non-sushi eaters (poor things), they do a great job with tempura, gyoza, and teriyaki chicken and beef. They also have a wide variety of drink specials (sake bomb for $6.00!). I have known Pancho since he had Sushi Hama in Tucson. I'm sad to say I won't be coming here again. There was an incident this week that hurt my soul. I was eating by myself after a very difficult week. The couple next to me were having a LOUD argument re their complicated relationship. I know more about them their sex life and how abusive this man is than I know about my own family. Finally after 45 min I asked if they could keep their voices down as there was children and families trying to enjoy a meal and basketball. He then called me white trash with tattoos. I had him repeat what he said and he added go back to your trailer and mind your f%#*ing business. I asked Ponchos wife to please intervene. The man denied what he said and not one person said a word. You could have heard a pin drop. They finally got their bill and left and several more rude comments later they were gone. No one apologized asked if I was ok....NOTHING! I am soooooo disappointed that Pancho as the owner a man and friend, said not a word. I later found out a fb friend heard the man outside speaking about me. This is inexcusable on so many levels. My go to sushi place. Great for gluten free people! My wife has celiac disease and they are extremely accommodating and have a good gluten free menu. If you're looking for artisanal sushi, don't come here. It's delicious but I normally stick to happy hour (all 1/2 off) or all you can eat: salmon everything! I've always wondered if this place is good because we live in Warner Ranch right across the way and we love having close places to go to eat! I would say it was very average. Nothing amazing, nothing horrible. We got some rolls, nigiri and gyoza & edamame. Personally, I don't enjoy when rolls aren't cut small enough. I felt the rolls were too chunky to eat, including the cucumber and fish inside. The rice seemed kinda bland to me? I am not a sushi expert but for some reason I noticed the rice lacked some flavor. Short Review: Good food followed by good service. If you are looking for AYCE (All-you-can-eat) sushi place that has decent quality fish, Mido Sushi is one of it. I also wanted to say thank you for not charging me for one unfinished nigiri despite my choice of AYCE. But in my defense, I was going to finish it, I just took a restroom break, but they had already cleared the dishes from me since I already paid and everything. In the end, I felt bad, perhaps, I should have finish my nigiri before heading towards the restroom. Just for further context, I was dining alone and I actually ordered way too much, so I took a breather in the restroom before finishing that last piece, but I guess they took it away. Anyway, they were really friendly people, and I believe it is a family own business. For more details, keep reading at the bottom. Long Review: As person who lives in Avondale of Arizona, there's hardly any good sushi place. In fact, there are fewer Asian restaurants let alone sushi shop. And when there is a sushi shop, it's often an inspired ones by Mexican-American, not that there is anything wrong with it, but it does not carry the authenticity or quality-wise, or come close to the sushi I crave for in Japan. So, I would literally, have to drive 20 - 30 miles to find a decent sushi restaurant. I'm glad to say Mido Sushi is one of it. Here, there is plenty of parking spot so you do not have to worry about that. Entering inside, it was bright reddish orange blend due to the colors of the walls and tables and the lighting. In the top right corner when entering the entrance, you see an odd "kitchen" place, but not quite. I'm not good at explaining so I took a picture for people to see what I meant. But other than that, the interior of the place is what I would expected for a sushi restaurant. Moving on, in the menu, other than sushi, there are other food category such as appetizers. I did not took a good look at any other menus other than sushi. So, I cannot say. Also, it is good to take note that AYCE sushi is only just sushi, not AYCE appetizers or any other category, but I'm not 100% sure. So, it's better to ask beforehand. I eat a lot. If it wasn't for All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE), my bill would had come out to be over $50+. Instead, I only had to pay a straightforward $25, not including tax and tip. So, as you can see in the images, I ordered a bunch of traditional sushi Nigiri. From Salmon to tuna to eels to special rolls. Because there weren't any wait and hardly any customers since it was during weekday lunch hours, my dishes came out as quick as possible. Less than 10 minutes. AYCE Dishes: I got 3 Tuna, 3 Yellowtail, 3 Salmon, 1 White Tuna, 1 Snapper, 1 Mackeral, 1 Canadian Clam, 1 Salmon Roe, 1 Fresh Water Eel, 1 Mido Roll, and 1 Cooked Spicy Scallop Hand Roll. Quantity: For Nigiri portion, it is 1 quantity = 2 pieces. For the Roll, it was 8 pieces. And 1 hand roll is 1. Please take note that they offer in huge portion. Basically, one piece of the nigiri can amount to 2 nigiri when cut in half. It was very difficult to eat it in one-go if that's your intention. So, be real careful. I underestimated there nigiri and got easily fulled. Quality: It's really nothing special. If you have ate at a decent AYCE sushi before, then this will be what you expected. At least, it is for me. That being said, as long as you don't get sick and it taste what a sushi should taste like, then it's fine. My favorite was their salmon and tuna. Everything else was okay. My only complaint is there rice. Upon consumption, the rice feels heavy and not soften. It's not stale, but felt like it was cooked just ready to make, but not cooked long enough to make it softer to chew and to swallow. This would have been fine if there portion of nigiri was much smaller, but theirs was ginormous. It's one of the biggest nigiri I have ever eaten. In conclusion, I rate the quality of the sushi a -B and in quantity, a solid B. For quality, as I stated before, it's nothing special. It taste good, but that's about it. The minus is mostly the rice quality. If it was sashimi instead, I would have rate it an B+. For quantity, it is a solid B because if you are ordering take-out or did not do AYCE choice, the portion is tremendous and a huge bargain for a decent quality sushi. That being said, if you did the AYCE route, the portion is way too much in one single nigiri. They might have to reconsider making smaller quantity for AYCE. That way, it odds of customers wasting food would be quite low. Side Note: Customer service was adequate. They were real nice and friendly to me. And I appreciate that they didn't charged me for the single nigiri even though I was going to finish it. read more

At 24$, I don't recommend getting AYCE unless you can eat a lot. The sushi here is OK. The chefs are Korean so unsurprisingly the sushi looks and tastes more like Kimbab, which might not be a bad thing since this means a greater fish to rice ratio, whereas other places have a lot of rice and no fish. Service is also OK. The biggest con is they require you to put everyone's order on one sheet of paper. When I asked if we could separate them, the waitress was reluctant and said the orders would come out at different times. So when the food came out it's hard to remember who ordered what. Also our order came out wrong with some nigiri missing. After reordering, it still didn't come out after waiting a long time so we canceled our order after being told it was still thawing. All you can eat is an awesome deal if you really can eat a ton, but we usually take advantage of the awesome Happy Hour! I'm more of a nigiri and sashimi fan, but they also have a huge selection of all the cooked and fancier rolls. All the rolls are a pretty good size, and I love that they don't overdo the rice. You also get a good amount of fish on each nigiri, which is nice to see. The atmosphere is super casual and full of big tables for groups. My boyfriend and I also love that this place is actually lit well! We're not fans of dark, "mood" lighting in restaurants. It's not a super bougie restaurant but much nicer than you'd expect from AYCE. At first sight, the Pancho Roll is disappointingly small. But when I actually tried it, I discovered what the hype is all about - IT'S GOOD. The Las Vegas roll was decent, but not as good as Sushiholic's Vegas roll. Mido Sushi is definitely going to be a weekly staple for the boothang and I. We're still sitting in the restaurant and we're already planning the next time we want to come back. A few items on their posted menu are not available any longer and not removed. The quality of their food has also worsened and replaced by less expensive replacements.
