I've never gone to the Sogo Expr restaurant, but on the other hand, I've eaten at the family style done in on many occasions so I decided to give it a try. Sogo Express is conveniently located on Poplar Tent Rd in a connecting parking lot with CVS. I grabbed a few items from CVS then drove to pick up dinner. The cashier was friendly and the wait time wasn't extensive. It smells so good inside here and you can see the chef on the grill preparing the food. The wait time isn't extensive and you receive fresh off the grill food. I ordered Steak and Shrimp Hibachi with rice mushrooms abd carrots. Update ******* I returned 3 days later & ordered the same thing with an extra side of carrots. It was a gentleman on the register this time. He was dipping up yum yum sauce & placing it in small containers. He was really nice & acknowledged me as soon as I came in. My food was beyond delicious! read more

Honestly, a little bit better than I expected for the price. I got the vegetable entree to go for $5.50 or so plus tax, and it's definitely good amount of food for what you pay. The vegetables were somewhat mushy, like they had been steamed before being thrown on the grill. Also, the shrimp sauce was super thick. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's worth noting. The inside of the restaurant seemed clean when I went to pick up my food. That's really all I have to say for now. I'll definitely get food here again just because it's a good value, but, of all of the variations of hibachi I've had in Charlotte, this one is right in the middle as far as quality goes. read more

This place is really an express stop. We were in and out very quickly. The food was much better than the previous Sogo Express. This chicken wasn't over cooked or dry. I also notice that they did not give as much food as the previous place. They had a sanitation rating of 94.0. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to concern yourself with either. They also had some ginger sauce which I suspect is soy sauce with ginger in it. It's delicious! read more

I've never been disappointed in Sogo. I've been living in this area for a little over a year and have frequented this restaurant on many occasions. The food has never been dry or "wet" as I believe some have said. The portions are great. Can't really beat the prices. First time here but heard it was a local favorite. I got the steak and chicken combo which came with fried rice and soft carrots. Very good entree and would recommend if asked. Our daughter got the teriyaki chicken but did not like the broccoli that was mixed in (nothing new here). Again, it came with fried rice and soft carrots. Our son ordered the shrimp and chicken but didn't realize he received steak and shrimp until we opened it at home. He still enjoyed it. The only reason I'm not giving Sogo one star is because I actually do enjoy the food. I would give 2 1/2, but unfortunately there are no 1/2 stars. I've attached several pictures of what I just opened up my bag to when I came home with my to-go food: a pool of teriyaki-and-whatever-else juice. This is not the first time I have been served my teriyaki chicken and veggies in a pool of unappetizing liquid. This is, however, the first time I've brought my food home and had this gross juice everywhere. I feel like I shouldn't have to ask for my food to be drained, but I guess from now on I will have to. I would hope the chef and whoever else working would notice that they're giving me my food in a literal pool of disgusting looking brown liquid. The last time I ate inside, I even asked for a plate so that I could drain my food myself. From now on, I will definitely ask that my food be drained. The actual inside of the restaurant is dirty as well. There have been many times that I have come in and the person working the cash register is sitting down on their phone when they should be making the inside a little less dirty. The floors are sticky, as well as the table tops and booths. The floor also has a coat of brown filth on it. There is dust on the windowsills and pretty much everywhere else. Not sure how they even have a sanitation score of 95. I'll continue to come here, because the food is actually good. But I really hope the right person reads this and makes some changes to give customers a better experience. read more

The food keeps giving me diarrhea, I know it's not just me but my friends too, I've gone there for over 2 years now and 5 months ago or somewhere around that the recipe tasted different. I always get the habachi chicken with rice and ither they did something to the taste or something but they need to get it changed. Don't get the habchi chicken until they fix that recipe unless you want diarrhea. read more

I can't decide between 3 or 4 stars... for the food alone I'd give it a 4, the looks/cleanliness would be a 1-2. The hibachi chicken is great and I don't think they've ever messed up our order customization. The hibachi steak is hit or miss, some days it is melt-in-your-mouth delicious and other days you get all the fatty pieces. Haven't tried anything else there. My only complaints would be that the place needs updating ASAP. It is pretty disgusting inside and I had some sort of condensation drip on me while standing in line to pick up my order. I've rarely seen anyone dining in. As long as the food (and health dept score) stays awesome, I'll continue to get takeout from there. read more

I ordered on DoorDash so I have multiple ways of proving what I'm claiming. Some of my order was missing and most of what I did get was spilled everywhere in the bag. I called and told the manager what happened. The manager insisted I being in the food to prove it was really what I said. I did. He would only give me $12 when I had a receipt for $27. Place is always dirty.Floor sticky and everything in this place needs to be cleaned. This is the only location that I have seed with this problem. And this is just not this one time. I have been there 3 different times over the past several months and it's always the same. Our chicken smelled a little like fish. I brought this up to them and they could not really care. I assume they cook the shrimp and other products on the same spot then just throw the chicken on after. They have signs on the door that say "No Mask, No Service", but the cook was not wearing a mask, so don't know why they have a sign... I got the hibachi shrimp and the shrimp were not deveined, which was a surprise to me. The rice was crunchy. The carrots could have used some more time, still tough in the middle.
