While everything was FINE only a few items were GREAT - the Starburst, which is a mix of two beers for a beautiful sunset color and fruit forward taste, and the mac n cheese, my son loovedd that ish. read more

CAnt wait to return!!! Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my wife after driving by and saying "We should go there sometime" for months. And boy, am I glad we came by! The atmosphere is just fun, the employees are fun, friendly and helpful. I got the sausage platter (with a bratwurst) and the mustards were amazing!! I got the cucumber salad on the side and it was perfectly light. My wife got the Derfinator Dog and we were surprised by how amazingly the sauces complimented the dog without being too much. They, obviously, have an exstensive beer menu. I got the Fruli Strawberry beer and loved it. My wife got one of the two spurs (the one with the higher abv). It wasn't for me but she really liked it. I just had my beard trimmed and was walking back to my car on a 100 degree plus day and like an oasis ...there ...it ..was!! Calling my name I walked right past my car, crossed the street and walked up to an amazingly impressive array of beers. I'm a sucker for the darker German styles, and even with it being so warm when I saw my beer I knew this was meant to be. A Weihenstephaner Korbinan. Dopplebock from Freising Germany at 7.4% ABV and 35 IBU. Heaven in a glass. It was middle of the day on a Friday and the crowd was very light with the heat. Lucky me though I eased back at a table and gifted my taste buds with this lusciously amazing beer. For dessert I had the Stone Mocha Double IPA from Escondido at 9% ABV and 80 IBU. Just so much delicious beer and food!! I had a starburst and was very refreshing on the hot day. We started with a beef Belgie, and it was superb. The waffle was great and reminded me of our traditional recipe from my childhood, with great meat and secret sauce. The german potato salad matched with just the right amount of kick. BierGarten is such a fun place to hang out with friends on a nice day! The whole place is outdoors, so I wouldn't suggest going if the weather is iffy. The atmosphere is great and there are many fun games to play while enjoying a beer such as corn hole, ping pong, or Jenga! I'm not the biggest beer lover, however I still enjoy going to the BierGarten because they offer a drink called the Starburst which is sooooo delicious! I would love to give even less stars. I was here on May 29th for a friend's birthday. We got a couple drinks and ordered the pretzel and the garlic fries. When the pretzel came out this huge clump of hair and what I guess is lint?? Was on it. I went right up to the front told the person working and they just said "oh okay I'll get you a new one" then brought a new one. Then when my friends were half way through their fries they also found a hair. Told the server he also just took the plate and switched it out. I asked to talk to someone and they said it was too busy. No comp. they didn't take it off my bill. Nothing. This place is disgusting. I had a really good experience during my last visit to Der Biergarten. I like the relaxed, outdoorsy atmosphere of the place. It has outdoor seating, cornhole games, a ping pong and some good shade trees to hide under in hot weather. It's a great place to unwind when the weather is good but remember to bring your sunscreen. There's isn't much room in bar but they still have a large variety of beers to quench your thirst. They have an interesting selection of local and foreign beers to pic from. I had a Sactown Union porter and garlic fries. The food menu also includes potato salad, cucumber salad, Schnitzel and German style sausages. The beer and food are unpretentious and hearty. The service was really good the last time I was there. The bartender was amiable and gave me a couple samples before I made my decision. My waitress brought my food out quickly and remember my request for ranch dressing. She even showed up later to check on me. Not bad. read more

By far the best place in Sac to get German beers on DRAFT. Delicious! Prost! Yes, it's quite a bit smaller than any biergarten I've ever been to in Europe but hey, they do a good job of trying to recreate that vibe in Sac town especially with the outside open table seating. If you're not into authentic German biers they also have pretty delicious "dessert" type biers that come in grapefruit and raspberry flavors. On some weekend nights it get's really bro-y so be careful if you're not into that vibe, but most weekday nights it's pretty chill and not too loud. It can be quite a nice experience drinking some cold German biers in the Sacramento summer nights. Food here is pretty good too; pretzels and garlic fries are hard to pass up! Loving the concept of the community outdoor beer garden! Plenty of drafts to choose from, patio bench tables with umbrellas, foozeball table, giant chalkboard, bean bag toss, snacks availabe, and bathrooms. It's like a tailgating party without the game. We came on a hot-ass Sacramento Sunday, so even sitting in the shade we were sweating. I like that they have a self-serve water station. I did my best to hydrate with alternating glasses of water and my Two Rivers pomegranate cider. It was a little empty at the time we were there, so I would've liked to hear some music playing, but as the staff explained, "we want people to talk to each other." I get it. The place is normally packed and probably very loud with conversation. No extra noise needed. The staff was really friendly and made good suggestions on what to drink. I saw they had a jar of dog biscuits on the counter. She said, "We're very family friendly! You can bring your dogs and your kids." Hmm...I might bring my pup with me next time, but I don't understand kids in a beer garden. Nonetheless, the Midtown BierGarten is in a great location. I'm a sucker for currywurst and I don't think you can get it anywhere else in Sacramento, so that alone makes this a solid food/drink spot for me. I'd come here with a small group of friends or possibly a date, if the date didn't mind drinking beer and eating meat, and then having gas the rest of the night. My only criticism is the lighting. Horrible Home Depot daylight LEDs that blast sterile white parking lot light into your face. Totally ruins the vibe. Wow! I'm not normally a fan of beer, but the Hefe grapefruit is a must try! You can actually smell and taste the grapefruit. Also, If you buy a drink from a specific brewer, you can add on a freshly-baked pretzel for an additional $2. The pretzel is normally around $6 and comes with three different kinds of sauces: two types of mustards and some sort of cheese & garlic sauce. Since it is outdoors and there's no canopy, you do need to factor in the weather. It actually started raining while we were there and we had to take cover near the restrooms until the rain died down. Love the layout of the outdoor seating area. I got in after a haircut around 520pm yesterday. I ordered a beer and the derfinator. The bacon wrapped hotdog with cheese and onions and other delicious stuff. This was the first time I had seen this place not packed and was able to get in and grab a seat. I will definitely be back again. So for now I will be giving the 3 stars until I come back to get a better idea what this place is like. Also they had great customer service they let me try the beer I was ordering before I ordered it. Plus the guy was very friendly and answered my questions without looking annoyed. We went to dine at Tres Hermanas last Friday and there was an hour long wait so we decided to walk down to BierGarten and have a beer there while we wait. I love the outdoor seating. I was in Sacramento for a wedding and the after party was at this biergarten. All outdoors, this was a great place to chill and just be outside in the nice weather. The vibe here is somewhere between down-to-earth and jock-city but the staff was nice and efficient so I can't really complain. I had a pretty solid pretzel here - none of that rubbery tasting pre-canned dough to be found - and a very tasty beer. There's a huge beer variety here, from fruity to sour to traditional, which I appreciate for sure. If I lived anywhere remotely near here I'd sure I'd spend the time and hang out here more often. As it is now, next time I'm in town I'd definitely consider coming back. read more

This was my first ever visit here and man am I glad I stumbled upon this place. My first impression walking in was this would be a cool backyard setup. You've got wooden benches in row formation, a little niche with stools by the sidewalk, patio style heaters, and corn hole to keep you entertained, tarps to keep you out of the sun on a blistering hot day, and like the evening I came in it was an open air bar. I tried the orange wit that they had on tap and it was a great tasting refreshing beer. I didn't get a chance to eat the delicious sounding food on the menu, but will return for sure. Cool place. Gets really busy once the weather turns nice. As one person tho, still easy to migrate and meander without worrying too much about the bustle. I'd imagine even with like 2 to 3 people you can find your own little niche where possible. Larger than that though and you can run into everyone else that had the same idea as you on a nice day. Multiple brew bikes also stopped here which added to the copious amount of crowding at the establishment. I will say this though, you could still move around so it wasn't really that bad. As a smoker, I gravitate towards the area I'm allowed in anyway which had some spots to jump into. During the week, it is a lot less crowded from my experience. You also get a good amount of time to talk with the people at the front. Don't know what to drink? You have options! You can ask for advice from them, they have great advice btw. There is also an app which will tell you what's available. I don't know if I would plan that far ahead with drinking but at least knowing what beer I wanted for the first one is kind of nice. Like christening the evening right from the beginning and then letting everything flow after. Also, if you're a dog lover or owner or what have you (I don't own one myself so I don't know all of the vernacular that goes with that role) this place is dog friendly. Just be mindful that it can get crowded which may or may not work with your dog. There's also other dogs, which also may or may not work for yours haha. Bottom line: if you like beer, this place has a large selection. Be mindful of when you're going and how many with since that'll impact wait times and availability of space. Stopped by with my little family for a quick outting, after my training in the downtown area. I sampled a refreshing IPA, forgot the name of it already, but it was lighter than most IPA's I've tried, so that was what I went with. We both ordered the Derfinator Dog, which wasn't too bad. It was definitely different. As we were finishing up, we saw one of the food servers bring out a delicious looking thin flat bread out to another couple. I didn't recall seeing it on the menu, so we asked the server about it and ordered one to go. Later that evening at home, I had a couple of slices and it was crispy and had a sausage taste with cheese on top and a sprinkle of green onions. Sooo gooood!! The atmosphere is fun and inviting. We felt like it was a place we can bring our daughter around as she is a chill baby who loves being outdoors. We're looking forward to warmer days to come. read more

I've been here several times and the service here is always good. The beers are on point. Why I am giving three stars is because of the Schnitzel. I came in yesterday with my bud visiting from Hungary. I have been to Germany, I know what good Schnitzel tastes like. I can also see from the reviews on here that I'm not the only person who has this opinion about the Schnitzel. If you're going to try to sell a traditional meal item like this, at least do it right. It was very disappointing. The meat is DRY and they don't give you an option to top it with a sauce. Just dry, cut up and gross. We had both ordered the Schnitzel and were let down by this after being hungry all day during a tour of Sacramento. We promised one another that if we come back here we know what NOT to order. read more

I come here fairly regularly. They have great beer (although their beer menu is printed in this horrible, hard to read font) and tons of options. They are usually great about letting your taste the beer first so you can make sure you like it before getting a pint. However, last time I went they wouldn't let me try the one I was curious about. They said it was too expensive to sample..seemed odd as it was only a dollar more than other beers on the menu. The whole thing is fine to smoke in which is the only downfall in my opinion. Last two times I went there were people smoking and I ended up leaving after only one beer because of the smell. read more

We went in for some beers and a pretzel and it didn't disappoint! There was also some table tennis available as well as Jenga and cornhole that we took advantage of. Lots of pups hanging around as well which definitely makes it a 5 star spot in my book. The beer was good and prices were decent.
