Midtown smog-- not 5 star certified (yet) they are working on it! Drove in on my lunch break to get it smogged because my car was so overdue! The guy was so nice and it took probably only 13 minutes! He also put air in my tires and informed me of an important recall with my battery! It was $65 dollars! I think it was so expensive due to a fine from the dmv for not getting it smogged back in November... or I got ripped off! But whatever, I'm just glad it's over with' They have a nice little waiting area with water, a candy bowl and appeared to be a mini fridge!

He was quick and efficient doing smog and explained I failed cuz I didn't drive enough miles after changing battery. He was super nice about everything. I highly recommend this place. Also they give a decent amount of time to come back for your one free retest if you failed. Great service here

I stopped by with no appointment. Lamar was working all by himself and had other customers he was helping, and yet he greeted me immediately, and helped me through the process, as I've never taken my car to be smogged before. He got my smog done so quickly and was very friendly. 10/10 customer service. And he was cute too. read more

Midtown Smog does RV's!!! A unicorn of smog stations as most can not or will not do RV/motorhomes of any sort. It is getting impossible to find a station that does motorhomes... if I had a dime for every station that says they don't do them or worse, advertise that they do till you show up to make an appointment and THEN they tell you they don't actually smog motorhomes. Very frustrating... Then there is MIdtown... communicated via Yelp and was very responsive to all queries... even though I was getting to be a pain as I'd been conditioned to disbelieve. Believe it... they to motorhomes. On day of appt Matt hooked everything and proceeded to test... came back in a bit with 'good news bad news' Good news was it passed, bad was that because they have not quite received star rating he could not certify. Turned out CARB had changed the weight class of my rig and it now requires a Star station to smog... never told me or had it on the reg renewal. Matt didn't charge me and offered what he knew about where I might go... Great guy Matt... I've decided to wait for Midtown to get the Star rating, hopefully before Feb '25 and bring her back then. For my other two cars Midtown is now my go to... Thank Matt!! read more

I found midtown smog on yelp when trying to find a smog place nearby. It was easy to set up an appointment, didn't even need to call. It was a bit confusing trying to find the location but that's not their fault. I was in and out in about 30 minutes and customer service was great, the owner was very friendly and engaged in conversation which I feel like is rare these days! They were very helpful and I was disappointed to find out they only provide smog services! They said they will let me know when they expand and I'm looking forward to it! read more

Went here on a Saturday. I was looking at different places & showed interest through Yelp. He messaged me to ask if I needed to come by and that he was closing within the hour, and that he had a $20 coupon for customers who went through Yelp(it's on his pics). I said I could be there 15 minutes before he closed and he said no problem. This is a new place, so they are not quite Star certified yet(he explained to me that new shops have to wait upwards of a year when you open a new smog shop to get it, because of the application process, no matter your experience). Well, my truck happened to be on the Star Registry Program I guess, which sucks for me...meaning I have to go to a Star Certified Smog Shop, and that he has no way to know until he hooks up my truck up to his machine. Sooo he explained it all to me, gave me some advice, didn't charge me & then sent me on my merry way. Also said that try to remember for next time because some shops will charge you the cost once you hand over the keys and they hook it up. I was appreciative of that. They close at 2 pm on Saturdays and the gentleman who answered states they can take walk ins and there currently wasn't a long wait. So I headed over there about 30 minutes after the call. Parking space here is limited, so be prepared for that. When I got here, there were 2 customers ahead of me, one finishing up a smog check and another just had his car towed here for repairs. I was helped within 20 minutes after arriving and was here a total of about 40 minutes total for smog. Again, great and quick service. The waiting room isn't too bad. They have a huge tv you can watch as you wait, magazines and a few chairs you can rest at. There's also a huge window where you can see into the bay. There's also masullo pizza next door if you want to eat while you wait, but the technician might be done with your car before the food arrives. Pricing is average for getting car smogged, and they do take credit card. I'll continue to go here in the future.

Two years ago, I took my 1986 Chevrolet van to Smog N Go on Orchard Loop Lane in Elk Grove for a smog check, and it failed due to an evaporative leak. Looking for answers, I brought the van to John at Auto Express. John performed a smog test, and the van passed. I returned to Smog N Go with John's test results, certificate, and a video of the test being performed, and they refunded my payment. From that moment, it was clear that John's integrity and expertise made all the difference. Last week, I returned to Smog N Go for another smog check, and once again my van failed--this time because of a reported gross evaporative leak and timing said to be set at 18 degrees BTDC, even though the correct specification is 4 degrees BTDC. It was a frustrating moment, but it also reminded me of the value of having someone you can truly rely on. I brought the van back to John at Auto Express, and once again it passed the smog test. John discovered that the wrong vapor line had been pinched during the evaporative test, which likely caused both this failure and the one from two years earlier. He also took the time to investigate why the timing had been set to 18 degrees BTDC by carefully examining the distributor, vacuum advance, and vapor lines. In doing so, he found that the vacuum advance was not working properly. What impressed me most was not just that he solved the problem, but that he approached it with patience, care, and a commitment to finding the truth. John was thorough, knowledgeable, and transparent every step of the way. He explained the issues clearly, replaced the faulty vacuum advance along with damaged vacuum and vapor lines, reset the timing to 4 degrees BTDC, and provided a smog certificate for my van--all within just a few hours. I left not only impressed by his skill and professionalism, but also grateful for his honesty and dedication. Even though I live in Elk Grove, I will gladly continue bringing my vehicles to John, because people like him restore your faith that exceptional service, integrity, and true craftsmanship still exist.

What stood out to me most was how knowledgeable, honest, and fair Samson and his team were throughout the process. The staff are friendly, the front desk is welcoming, and the customer service has been great. My AC Drier was cracked and inoperable since last year. In this region of the Sacramento Valley and Placer County, 916 Auto quote beat 5 shops I contacted in the region and 1 shop even told me it's not worth it and I should get a new car. Bet if my car was a 69 Camaro, they'd do it. Why? Cause its a Classic Camaro. No matter the condition. Some shops don't want to work on Imports. But oh well. Their loss, not mine. I contacted 916 Auto and spoke to Samson to schedule an appointment and he said to come by that very same day. And so I drove from Roseville to Gold River that morning. Samson is honest & to the point. When he pulled my car in, he noticed a coolant leak. Now I didn't notice any leaks in my driveway, as it would seem the Coolant is evaporating or dissipating, but he notice it was getting on my Alternator, by the stains. It turns out, my OEM water pump (factory part since 2003 for this model year in 2004) finally gave out at 262K miles. Who'd ever think a Mazda/Ford part would last this long. This was an unexpected thought as I only had budgeted for the quote. So I called my CFO (Wife) and let her know of the issue. She said get it fixed and she'll adjust other expenses as she knows I need AC for the upcoming summer temps. So I authorized Samson to proceed with the entire job. Now I can't couldn't do any price comparison, but he did give me a discount which still fit in my overall budget. I spent my whole day in their lobby. They have updated their lobby to make it feel more comfortable and less Auto Shop feel. I notice the many people who drop by to have their car service are all happy and are returning customers. From a Dealership oil drain plug that was torqued too tight, to oil changes, brakes, and even a customer who was a bit upset where the Dealership sent the wrong part twice. The Dealership. I spoke to many of them and they all had the same answer when I ask. "What made you come here?" They replied, "Their price can't be beat!". In summary, my AC is now working as it should. Now I only used my AC for 2 whole days It gets cold and it has been awhile since I have felt cold in my aging car of 22 years. With my new water pump installed as well, my car is running smoother overall. Smoother shifts, heater gets warm fast. Almost, now almost like it was in 2004. So, Did I find a new shop for my Project Commuter Car? Yes I sure did. They have gotten a new customer. Up next is my Transmission Gasket & plug. One thing at a time! He inspected them and showed me how each one was clean, dry, and completely fine. He then inspected the rest of the engine compartment and the undercarriage and showed me that it was all in great shape. Finally, he noticed that a previous mechanic had removed the plastic shroud for my front wheel wells and failed to install new clips to secure the shroud afterward. I had wondered about the gap he noticed for years, but I didn't realize it was anything other than wear and tear. He replaced the clips for no extra charge. I know it seems like a small thing, but to me, it speaks clearly to Roland's character: I believe he genuinely cares about doing right by his customers and taking good care of their cars. When I asked him about some issues with electronic parts on my car (e.g. a digital dashboard display), he let me know that his area of focus was mechanical service and advised me to take my car to an electrical auto shop. I was grateful that he knew the limits of his expertise, communicated them clearly, and stuck to them. I felt his quoted price was quite reasonable, and even after he performed more work than requested (still within about a 1-hour time slot), he stuck to his original price quote. After 40 minutes of painfully watching him attempt to force things open. I politely asked him to stop as it was obvious he didn't know what he was doing and broke a few components off my housing. I tried calling him to let him know of the damages. He denied responsibility and said he was only at my house for 5 minutes. He told me to never contact him again and failed to respond to the before and after photos I sent. Do not trust this shady business. What went from a lb easy replacement of a 100A that I could have done myself but did not have the time to do so, resulted in several hundred dollars of parts in addition to more for labor due to gross incompetence. DO NOT TRUST HIM!
