I think that the most accurate rating for this place would be about a 3.5. Very good food, and great menu, and a great local feel, and also a good historical feel of the early mining days in this area. When I travel, I like to blend in with the locals and experience life much as the locals do. This restaurant, which has apparently been in business in this spot for many years, not only has tons of wall decorations and displays that reference the colorful mining history of this area, but the restaurant is also frequented by all the local old-timers and tradespeople, and so it has a very genuine feel. Food is good, menu is good, service is good, and the setting is great! Having said that, I will add that when I am at home, I tend to eat largely organic foods and meats, dairy and eggs from drug-free and pasture-fed, cage-free livestock. I want to make totally clear from the start that if this is the kind of food that you are looking for while you are in Midvale, or if you are looking for low-fat foods, or for restaurants that do not use cheap cooking oils, then you will NOT find it at this restaurant! read more

Terrible, the "chili verde" was red(seriously verde literally means green people) and tasted like it came out of can. It was covered with an excessive amount of what looked like cheap american shredded cheese. Again hash brows tasted like they came out of a bag from walmart, mushy and overcooked Coffee was like brown colored water Service was marginal at best, I ordered a scone(fried bread) half way through the meal after giving up on the verde and it didn't come out until we were walking out the door to leave.....major lack of communication between servers and kitchen. read more

Breakfast early-ish on Saturday was pretty good. Of any visit here, though, this was probably the least attentive service wise. I chalk it up to the fact we were sat in the north west end, a separate room from everyone else and were sort of ignored. Coffee is good. Hot. Fresh. They have the little cups of half and half and other non-dairy creamers. Sometimes these can go bad, but they seemed ok. Meals are great - eggs were to order. Bacon was thick and tasty. Potatoes are hash browns and cooked perfectly (not burned, not raw). The menu has quirky little names for all the meals that have to do with mining. Nothing about "Black Lung Burger" or "Miner's Lung Meatloaf" though. So they're already classier than I am (which is a plus, I guess). Prior visits have had chicken fried steak (amazing, but I fear the calorie count between the large beef patty, the breading, and the great gravy, oh....that gravy, that lovely, savory, creamy gravy....) pork chops (quality pork, thick, well cooked) and pancakes. No disappointments on food or prices. They boast the Utah version of scones (fried bread dough - meh, fried bread is fried bread) and have excellent biscuits. The service in the back room, though, was slow, we waited awhile to be looked after but she was nice enough in the end. Maybe we just came on a bad day, but I don't get why this place has so many good reviews. I ordered the "South of the Border", which, according to the menu, was supposed to be chili verde over hash browns. However, the chili has a red base, which I don't quite understand. The food overall was still halfway decent, but nothing spectacular. The hash browns were your standard frozen shredded potatoes. The service was just okay. The worst part of the meal by far was the coffee. It tasted like a two-day old pot that was reheated over and over again. There are many better breakfast places around town for the price. read more

Went there last night (7-28-2015) with another couple. Have been there many times before but will NOT be back. It was the worst steak I have EVER tried to eat. Over done (I ordered medium), no flavor and was like cutting shoe leather. My cousin's was the same. She complained soon enough that they reduced her bill (thank goodness). I paid full price--$14.95 Service wasn't the best. Server said it was a NEW cook and she talked to him. Hope it helped the next unsuspecting patrons, cause it sure didn't help us. I really love supporting my locals but this was definitely a bad choice on my part, if I'm being honest. I got the chili verde omelette with a side biscuits and gravy, a coffee and scone . The omelette was very bland and the chilli verde on top of it......I can't even say looked like a chili verde and tasted like they got it from a can. I about drowned it in hot Sauce yet it was still very plain and I couldn't even finish it . The biscuits and gravy I feel was on a small plate with the gravy almost spilling over the side and just like the omelette it was very plain and un-tasteful. The only thing I really enjoyed here was the coffee and scone. I definitely would not recommend it to any of my family or friends and won't be returning. As much as I didn't want to pay for my meal from not being satisfied I still payed cause I know everyone that works here still need payed and feed their family. read more

Breakfast food is 'easy' to make. Ordered my bacon well-done crispy and it came out rubbery. Waitress with short hair didn't check on me once to correct this. My coffee cup was empty by the time she got to me with my check and by that point I asked for more to-go. I'm young and travel the country for work. The service here is GREAT! They are so friendly, and helpful! Large portion sizes, the food was pretty good but what sold us was the service. That matters a lot to us. We've been driving past this place for years, always saying we'd stop in. Since we made the decision to have the dollars we spend eating out be spent on locally owned businesses, we finally had a chance to stop in. We were greeted when we walked in, and every staff person we encountered while being shown to our tables were smiling, and very friendly. Easily my favorite breakfast choice. I recommend either the steak and eggs or an omelette. The portions are huge. In fact, usually the wife and I split an entree, and neither of us can finish our half. Skip the pancakes and instead opt for a scone; you'll be very happy you did. Good coffee, excellent Bacon, amazing French toast. One word of advice - avoid the biscuits and gravy. This is not their strong suit. If you like scones, these will blow your mind....they are massive, and just the right texture - both chewy and crispy. If you're going to get breakfast in Midvale, you might as well go to the Midvale Mining Company. There is an abominable dearth of breakfast eaters in this world, with the masses switching to nutritious yogurt "drinks" and fortified granola like bars in lieu of the traditional breakfast. You know what I'm talking about-you ran out of the house this morning with one of them in your hand (if you ate anything at all), and you let the hash-browns, pancakes, oat mill, cereal, waffles, fruit, bacon, sausage, orange juice, and a myriad of other God-given gifts on the table, cupboards and fridge. Because seriously-what is a morning if it doesn't include at least a pound of bacon grease? But seriously, folks, let's get back to basics. Let's get back to breakfast (can you tell that I ran out the door without anything this morning? My belly's giving me no end of grief, right now). Midvale Mining Company might be just the place to start. I have had two distinct experiences here. Lunch and dinner. I love stopping by on a Friday afternoon to get there special the prime rib. It is cooked well, priced well, and fills me up. It comes with a side of cooked carrots (which I normally don't like, but these are great) and a large scone that reminds you of something you grandma would make. Thanks service is almost always super fast so you can get in and out on your lunch break. Dinner on the other hand is a disaster. There service is slow. The waitresses don't check on their tables enough and most of their food is just okay. The prime rib for dinner is still great and comes with a salad and a potato, but the service and the rest of the food makes this a lunch only restaurant for me. read more

The very first place we ate at when we moved out here. At the time, it was one of the closest restaurants since the area was not as developed as it is now. It's quaint, I love the historical pieces they display. I can't speak on behalf of much of the food because all I ever get there is breakfast (they serve it until 5 PM, I think). It's your typical breakfast, but with the dish I order, they give you a LOT of bacon compared to what you would expect from other places. And I love bacon, so I'm totally fine with that. Their scones with their honey butter are AMAZING. This is my go-to breakfast place. read more
