We took a party of 13 to this restaurant for dinner tonight, we had reservations so we were seated immediately. The ambiance was good. Kind of dark in there but they brought extra lights to the table. The waitress, Judy, approached and asked if she could get drinks/cocktails. We only wanted a coke and she was kind of snarky and said ok only one coke. She then came back to take our order, we started placing the order and asked for several customizations, to which she was quite rude and acted like it was a problem to leave off sauces, or add mayo to a burger.. when asked to substitute for fries she said nope you can add them. And then my husband asked her what an ingredient(polenta) was and she acted like he was stupid and said basically bacon and laughed and rolled eyes. I then took my daughter to restroom and I heard her and another server discussing their tables. She made a comment of how they had asked for mayo and customizing everything and she said that she had "teen entitlement" in her section. We had a party of 13 and we did have 9 children/young adult ranging from 8-25 with us. It was like it was a problem that we let a teen order a 45$ steak and wanted the butter on side. If we are paying that much we should be able to ask for how we want it. We did get our meal after waiting a pretty good bit which was DELICIOUS (I recommend shrimp n grits/wagyu steak). The orange chicken we would not recommend it was bone in and doesn't tell you that and the rice taste a lot like "soap". When she brought the check it totaled 332$ and she hand wrote us a note on back like we were idiots that said 66$ suggested 20% gratuity. Had she not written that we probably would have tipped her even more. We don't take 13 people into a "nice" restaurant and not know what to tip just cause we have a lot of kids with us. Honestly her note and overall attitude of looking down on us was offensive and rude. She was very disrespectful, we have a choice of where we spend our money, it will not be here again. We left Judy a note letting her know that we and our entitled kids enjoyed the food. However, you would think a large party who made reservations would get better respect and service than we did for sure. Amazing food, service and that covered outdoor area is huge, beautifully decorated, and equipped with power heaters! My friend and I sat outside in the 30F day and we were toasty warm. We shared the calamari (crispy, tender insiders), and I had the aptly named crispy duck leg. The honey was a perfect way to balance the salty duck leg. Will return again!!! read more

Make sure you have reservations. We arrived on time and were seated quickly. The Rosemary gimlets were delicious. I would come back just for these. Our son ordered a pepperoni pizza. He said the crust wasn't crisp and was sort of soggy. Wife had the scallop special with pasta. The scallops were delicious but the pasta was not good. It wasn't eaten but the scallops saved the day. I had the ahi over glass noodles. The tuna was cooked perfectly. Noodles were good but a little too much on the fish sauce. Chick chacks were good as an appetizer. Really good! YUM!! I drove all the way from Alpine for a meal at Midway Mercantile and it was well worth it! The ingredients were all so high quality and it was very clear that a lot of care went into both the menu curation and food. I tasted several different dishes and thoroughly enjoyed everything I tasted. They had several large groups the night we went and we still had quick and attentive service. It was not very crowded but once we were seated nobody came to ask for drinks or anything for 15 min. Then they got our order wrong. This place put hearts in my eyes. Dollar signs too, unfortunately, but mostly worth it. The Idaho trout was melt-in-your-mouth tender and fresh, served atop a bed of buttery greens and potatoes and christened with tangy capers and lemon sauce. At $19, the price was a tad steep for the portion size--it filled me perfectly, but I'm also a 120-pound woman and I can see how a man twice my size would not feel full afterward. Hard to complain from my vantage point, though. Even better (if possible) was the seasonal lemon ginger pear pie with crumble. We were initially disappointed that they were out of the strawberry rhubarb, but after the first bite of the pear pie, I had no more regrets. Our server mentioned that they'll begin serving fresh peach pie in August, so we'll definitely be making a return trip for that. The raclette/fondue appetizer was very tasty, presented in a cast-iron dish with a side of crusty bread, apple slices, and bell pepper. I mean, it's melted cheese, what's not to love? There was nothing wrong with it, but I was bummed at the quantity and simplicity given that it was $14. If you want a small app, skip the fondue for something a little heartier or at least cheaper. Service was very prompt and the outdoor seating on a beautiful summer day beneath a canopy of trees was just so, so lovely. They've got atmosphere in spades. Only complaint is that, it being a backyard, there were some bug issues and we had the occasional ant and even a spider crawling on the table. I didn't care all that much, but I can see how that would be really off-putting for some, especially if it were able to get into the food. Wildlife aside, we'll definitely be back, likely with others in tow. read more

If you haven't been here you need to. It's mouth watering. They have the BEST food and are all so nice! Their customer service is amazing and the food blew our minds. The Parmesan crusted pork tenderloins were so good and the ribeye steak was a dream. We also loved the variety of food on their menu. Every single item we ate we were blown away with the amazing taste and unique combinations. The building they are in has so much history and was built in 1874! It has such a cool vibe. We went this past weekend and they are currently still open! They deep cleaned every table after the guests left and everyone that brought food to our table was wearing gloves. Make a reservation online only. The receptions will still not be friendly when you show up. My mother lives in the area and we always go to the mercantile. So I have been many times. Food is good, but never get a welcoming feeling. I will say the peanut butter pie was the highlight. Sunday in Heber leaves few dining options unfortunately. My daughter and I drove by the Midway Mercantile and were excited to see it open and also aesthetically pleasing from the outside as well as inside upon entering. We were kindly greeted and seated immediately by the hostess and waited patiently for our waiter. We were given the option of lunch and dinner menus since we arrived right on the cusp of the menu change. I watched our waiter; a tall elderly gentleman kindly help multiple tables and not once make eye contact with us. There were few tables and it was not busy mind you. We continued to wait...and around 15 minutes in the hostess noticed we hadn't even had water brought to us and got another gentleman to bring us water. We sat and drank our water while our waiter was at this point quite plainly ignoring us. The hostess again stepped in and he came to our table. He was quiet, short and unnaturally cold compared to how he'd been helping the other tables. He took our orders though and left. More time passed...it seemed like maybe there was a shift change as a lovely waitress appeared to be helping his tables and chatting about the menu options and bringing drinks. All things we hadn't experienced. Hell, we were still waiting on our soda at this point 30 plus minutes in. I ask this waitress and she was shocked we didn't have our drinks and said she's have him bring them out. About 5 minutes later the gentleman comes out... with the wrong drinks. Doesn't apologize and just tells me to keep the extra and brings back the correct one. At this point the hostess, the waitress and the gentleman that had brought our water had all noticed his behavior. Something might have been said because by the time he came out with our food his attitude somewhat shifted but was still short to the point of being rude. Now I can review the actual food. Disappointment, under whelmed and honestly quite sad to summarize. I had ordered the River Trout over a hearty bed of greens. What I was brought was a over cooked trout with so many capers it tasted pickled. Once that was out of the way I was dumb founded. I had maybe 3 leaves of greens and a cup of burned root vegetables and bacon chunks. I mean shriveled, hard and black. No seasoning other than olive oil. At the price of $19 for what I received I was angry and that's just the food let alone the service. My daughter had order the pizza hotdog calzone with fries. It's kids food but she said it all tasted bland and the fries were dry and salty. Our waiter promptly had brought our check without asking. Then after another wait on picking up my card to be charge $40 for this experience, we left. We will not be returning unfortunately. I recommend a serious staff training and new chefs if they plan to continue business. read more

Made our way back to Mercantile, as they FINALLY had a decent special (we have called constantly for the past few months and 90% of the time it was a blackened pork pasta which did not sound appealing in the slightest) Upon arrival, the host asked if we were locals in a condescending tone. Strange. He seemed annoyed that we did not have a reservation, though they didn't even take reservations at our last visit. Tonight our meals arrived surprisingly different than how our waitress described them. We ordered the two pasta specials. The first was supposed to be a vodka cream sauce with steak over fettuccine, but really was mediocre marinara with some mushrooms and hardly a trace of steak to be seen. The second should have been a cream sauce with a hint of pesto and cremini mushrooms over fettuccine. It was much better than the other dish, but was essentially buttered noodles with basil. The mushrooms were sautéed nicely and it came with grilled chicken which was an unexpected surprise. Both were garnished with garlic bread that had been burnt to a crisp - practically hockey pucks. I wanted so badly to enjoy Mercantile as I had previously, but left feeling hungry and disappointed. The unremarkable food came in small portions and with a hefty price tag. read more

The food wasn't bad but definitely not 50 bucks a plate worth. Our waiter (bald 40ish year old) was easily the worst server we've ever had. Completely rude and smug. We eat out often and both work in kitchens. His name was initials I believe. Also our salads were on piping hot plates and when my dad asked him to repeat a dessert item he said and I quote "I wish I had a tape recorder so you could play it back at your own pace". The meatloaf was dry, the mashers had zero salt but the roasted veggies were amazing. The hostess, runner and bus boy we're working their butts off though. Okay the Mercantile never disappoints! It's my go-to spot in Midway - no joke. The Carolina pizza is the best thing in the menu in my opinion, but honestly, everything is absolutely delicious. This time I tried a side Caesar salad and was surprised that it was warm; but it was SO good. Croutons are soft yet crunchy, the cheese was amazing too. It's a great place to eat in as they have big open windows that allow you to take in the beauty of this amazingly quaint and cozy town. I can not recommend this place enough! read more

This place was great, super straightforward menu, options for everyone and the price was on point. We had the burger and what looks to be boneless chicken wings. The burger was one of the top I have had in Utah probably top 5... okay alex name the other five. I don't remember, it might be the best, I haven't had so many of the others in a long time. Drinks were great and prepared quickly and delectably. THE VERDICT: If you live here this better be a frequent go-to. This is probably my second favorite restaurant in this general area. A piece of history tucked away in the Wasatch Back mountains. An old Mercantile store revised to create fun ambiance and fantastic food with original floors and adobe brick walls from the 1800's. The hostess will ask if you have a reservation and if you don't will tell you that you need one next time....even though it is a Wed. night and the traffic was slow. The views are fun and whimsical providing a look at the old Bonner homestead and Midway Main Street. The menu has three sections, appetizers, pub fair, and entrees. We had the cob salad, rib eye, and wood stone Pizza (a must). The head chef will serve you directly from the cooks line where you can watch your pizza being cooked in the wood fire Pizza oven. The service is good. They are still working out a few bugs but the staff's kindness makes up for it. A fantastic place to grab a bite. read more

The food was delicious, but.... How dare us show up for dinner at 4:30pm on a Sunday with no reservations! The hostess walked us through a completely empty restaurant and sat us outside. Before we even went to sit I noticed a beetle on the table and told her this wouldn't work. She insisted they had over 100 reservations and that they were all booked up. We ordered, ate (by swatting at as many flies as we could), and paid the bill as fast as we could before we melted into a puddle. We were there less than an hour. On our way out, we walked through a mostly empty restaurant, with plenty of open tables we could have been sat at. This is our third time at the restaurant, and the third poor experience we had. We were staying nearby for a stay staycation and saw this place driving through town. They were booked out for the night (get your res ahead of time) but were able to seat us at the bar top. Kyle our server was lovely, knowledgeable about the menu and made our drinks. Plus he has a contagious energy! We tried sparkling wine and a couple drinks (the rosemary ginlet was awesome) from their menu. Wine was good and on the sweeter side. The fondue is a must. Caesar salad threw me off a bit with its warm temperature. affairs were all there and was relived there was no fishiniess to the dressing (sometimes places do it with anchovies - I don't even know of they have this at all in the dressing btw). Midway Mercantile is amazing! I have eaten here a number of times and it is excellent every time, no matter what I get.

Small town vibes mixed with fancy dining. Our server was very helpful in picking some delicious dishes. We ordered; Parmigiano-Crusted Pork Tenderloin with Spinach Aioli served on a bed of penne tossed with bacon, onions, tomatoes, capers and balsamic. Everything about this dish was full of flavor. The spinach aioli sauce with the bacon was the perfect touch to this dish! Daily Chefs choice cut, which happened to be the beef Wagyu with chef's compound butter and potato-yam gratin, and roasted carrots. The meat was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The gratin was very flavorful and if I'm not mistaken had cooked greens mixed in which I think may have been kale. I've also never tasted carrots this scrumptious. The front windows opened onto the Main Street of Heber. Fresh mountain air and views!! A very top notch dining experience. read more
