I always noticed this pearl and other fine jewelry store. And today I finally decided to go check it out. It's fun to pick a clam shell and see what luck you get with the pearl inside. Some may even contain more than 1 if your lucky. It is $15 per shell and after you can pick a setting. There are various options from gold to silver.. And from rings to pendant settings. I love the variety and if you don't want to pick a shell there are a lot of other options ready to buy. I bought a bracelet and he said they were Japanese pearls and I love it. This will be a great addition to my jewelry collection and will definitely return for more. I recommend this store and the staff on hand was friendly and helpful with helping me pick the right item. We looked around for a moment and found a pair of nice earrings for my wife as well. Back to my daughter, the older gentleman suggested we open an oyster and make a necklace out of it. My little one chose an oyster and got three beautiful white pearls out of the one oyster! So of course we made a necklace and earring set on the spot. My wife always stops in here when we visit the Redondo Pier. They're known for pearls but she likes their coral jewelry. On our latest visit she spotted a huge coral necklace she liked and asked to see it. When inquiring about the price she was told $8500. Smelling salts helped revived me after I fainted to the floor. Yes, this time her selection was a bit out of our price range but the folks here are very friendly, accommodating and no-pressure plus the jewelry they carry is top notch (and most not as expensive as that!). read more

I came here while visiting the pier with family. It was such a fun experience! We appeared at the outside window. The friendly gentleman came and assisted us. Our first try I got an oyster with 3 gray pearls!! It was so exciting, so of course everyone else wanted to try too. My whole family ended up giving it a shot. This is a very interesting jewelry business concept. You get to pick an oyster that is guaranteed to have at least one pearl inside it, and get it set in a piece of jewelry of your choice. It makes for a nice story behind your jewelry piece. The oyster I picked out contained a single silver pearl which was adorable. I had no idea what to expect when I showed up as this was my first time. We had no directions and they didn't tell us what we should be doing. It would have been helpful if they told us what place in line we were when we showed up. It felt a little bit haphazard as people that arrived after us were lining up in the outside window area where the oysters are, while we were waiting inside to be seen after the people that were there before us. I felt like I had to be extra alert and really push to be helped before the people who showed up after me. The service itself was very friendly. Today was my first time going to Mie Pearl and I loved it. I highly recommend this place! I got two oysters. The first one had one white pearl and the second one had THREE white pearls. I got so lucky! The workers were extremely helpful. I got a pearl necklace as well as a ring. The lady at the counter was patient and accommodating when I was choosing a ring and necklace setting. Redondo Beach Pier, and oyster shucking for pearls, yes, please! :) If you fancy the lighter, color pearl shades, and whimsical settings, Mie Pearl Inc., is definitely the place to come! (Yes, I went to both places, and got two different types of colored pearls and ring settings, hehe!). For $11.50, I got to pick out my own oyster, and a sweet gentleman shucked it, cleaned it, measured it, estimated it, and put it aside for the Manager, who came in 30mins later to actually set my pearl into my adorable turtle theme ring setting. Since the Manager was the only one who can assemble it, I didn't mind waiting - Pokemon Hunt was well worth the distraction, lol! I came back 30mins later, and was able to watch him assemble my ring, yay! What I like about this Mie Pearl Inc., is that the ring settings are cute and whimsical here. I was hoping for a dark pearl, but overall, I love my pearl and with the turtle themed ring, it looks super cute, definitely happy with it! :) Service: The two gentlemen, who helped me were nice and friendly. An excellent experience! Top notch customer service. My girlfriend and I were looking for a gift for my mom's birthday and thought this would be a great gift. Not only could we get her a great piece of jewelry but it would be personal in that we literally get to pick out the pearl and setting. It's there 30th year in business so they were having a 30% everything sale and you could pick your Oyster for $9.99 (normally $11.50 I think). I got a dark blue pearl on my first pick! What I really loved about the experience was the customer service and the options available. I can see why they are going 30 years strong. After I picked the pearl I got to choose from a large selection of settings ranging from sterling silver, to white gold, to gold. There were options for any price range. We walked away very happy and my girlfriend liked the necklace so much she got one of her own! read more

Picked out three oysters from their small water fountain. The biggest pearl we got was size 7. The pearl it self was only $9.99 each since they had an anniversary sale and originally $11.99. What makes it pricey is the necklace, ring or earring you use to place the pearls onto wear. You had to pay for the necklace chain and pendant seperately. The cheapest chain was $10.00 which was 10 to 12 inches. Largest chain was 16/18 inches. Once the pearls are set, wait 5hrs (recommended) for the glue to dry before wearing the item. The sales lady was nice she even wrapped the items individually with gift wrapping paper when i explained it was a gift for my mother and my sister. She also mentioned that the owner was Japanese and the oysters came from an oyster farm in Japan. read more

BEAUTIFUL PEARLS! I loved the experience. The trick really is to pick the ugliest oyster. I picked an oyster that seemed to move with the water, or was moving. ( Not sure) My friend chose a smaller oyster. The person who helped us opened my friend's oyster first and out came a beautiful blue with green overtones, giving it a sort of teal appearance. It was measured as 6.5MM and was appraised for $65. My oyster revealed a gorgeous classic white pearl. BUT IT WAS 8.5 MM and worth $165. It was the biggest they saw all day. We bought a ring setting for my mom in SS and a necklace setting and chain for the blue pearl for me. It was a great experience even though the buyer before me got twins and the buyer after me got triplets. I just regret not being able to catch it all on video. read more

Had such a good experience at Mie Pearl today! My boyfriend and I picked one oyster each out of a water fountain looking thing. My boyfriend's oyster had two little pearls and mine had one large one. For two oysters, the total came out to about $21. Not bad! Especially since the associate said my pearl was worth around $60. You can use the pearls to make a necklace, a ring, or earrings; but I chose keep them as is. I wish I caught the lady's name because she was so nice and funny. Definitely a fun place to stop by if you are visiting the Redondo Beach Pier. This is my favorite place to go when I feel lucky and want to go pick an oyster. Tonight was one of those nights. I picked a total of three oysters, one of which had three white with pinkish tinted pearls in them! Super cool! The other two oysters gave me black pearls with a bluish tint to them. All five pearls were beautiful!!! Oysters are $11.50 each + tax , which is not bad. Unlike many other "pick a pearl" places you will come across, this place has a high incidence of oysters that carry black pearls (if that is what you are into). About 10 years ago, when I came to this place, my brother in law and I both picked oysters with black pearls. :) They were gorgeous! Tonight, there were two ladies ahead of me who also picked oysters that had black pearls in them. :) Customer service here is great. They are very friendly and never pushy or rude. Prices are pretty reasonable. I definitely think I will start the tradition of picking an oyster here every year. :) TIP: From my own personal experience, I have found that picking the ugliest oysters always yields the prettiest pearls. :) :) HAHAHA Goes with the saying..."It's what's inside that counts." :) read more

I took my 8 year old niece here when she came to visit. It was her birthday & I wanted to give her an experience, rather than just a thing. She had a great time picking just the right oyster, and when it was opened...she got a black pearl (see me sitting here green with envy?!?) She was clearly pleased with all of the people gathered around her oohing & aahing at her fantastic pick. The manager showed her some settings & she chose a cute sterling silver plumeria flower. Every time that the Michael Unit and I come to the Redondo Beach pier, we visit Mie Pearl and select raw oysters to find a pearl. I must have 100 of all colors and sizes by now. Phenomenal spot!!! Service was beyond fantastic. The store clerk was super friendly and helpful. The owner was there and he also assisted us as well. He is extremely knowledgeable and more than friendly. You would have thought we come there every weekend to be offered the service he provided. It was truly a breath of fresh air. The setting selections for pick a pearl were fantastic. They also had the best prices I have ever come across for the pick a pearls. If you do pick a pearl they are .50 cent cheaper with tax than Kobe Pearl down the way from them. I would totally recommend this store for the experience and options. A really cool gift idea where you don't break the bank and get a sort of 'experience' with the present. After eating at New Tony's, my niece and I stopped at a counter outside of Mie Pearl. They have a display where you can choose your own oyster for $9.99. There is a little birdbath-like basin with oysters in it. They give you tongs and they will open it for you and clean your pearl. It just so happens that my niece picked one with a nice sized black pearl. The guy cleaned it with salt, sized it and told us that it was worth about $75. Not a bad deal for $10.81! They offered to mount it, but weren't pushy about it. They did have some beautiful jewelry in the store. read more

If you go to Redondo Pier and want to pick oysters to find pearls, go here. They are the nicest people. The owner gave my daughter another white pearl to go with the one she found to make her earings. They just were such nice people, took time to make sure we hade fun and were very interactive with the kids. (Side note: Please, save your self the time and bother. DO-NOT visit Kobe Pearl store. We stopped here first to pick oysters, but the man running the store was to busy reading his paper to want to help us. We stood at his window talking about getting oysters being ignored by him for at least 2-3 minutes (NO ONE ELSE AT THE WINDOW, OR IN HIS STORE), till I asked him about picking an oyster, he then grunted at me the price and went back to reading his paper, obviously with no intent or care to help us, So we left. Thankfully!!! ) Then we found Mie Pearl on the pier, they were busy and we had to wait, but we found out why. Very much worth the wait, and when you get up to be helped, they treat you like you are their only customer, even with others waiting (They make sure everyone gets treated right). read more
