I have been coming here since I was born and the food is always great. Always comes out hot and fast. They recently updated their patio. I'm nostalgic and miss the old one with the trees but the new one looks clean and modern. Maybe they will add some plant life to mix the old with the new. A favorite spot to visit while in Coronado. Miguel's swordfish tacos never disappoint but during last visit I discovered their fajitas and do not think I will go back to tacos!!! Fajitas came out sizzling in smoke with bell peppers and onions plus tacos on the side. Queso that comes with comp chips and salsa is also top notch and was a huge hit for our group. Drinks are on the sweeter side (especially passion fruit margarita) so be aware if you do not have a sweet tooth. On a separate note, I found seasonal drink (kiwi strawberry less sweet and more refreshing). In terms of wait time, it can get long but generally they try to sit you in less than quoted time. Last Sunday we were told it would be 40 minutes wait but got seated under 20 minutes. read more

We must have came the wrong way because we ended up in the back where their patio dining is under construction. ;) As we entered the front entrance, it was very lively. A bar to the left, a to go order/pickup straight ahead. We were quickly greeted by everyone and quickly seated. Just as we were seated, the waters came with chips and salsa! OMGOODNESS!! Showed up without reservations. Told it would be 20 mins. Asked if they had a bar? Yes... inside. Perfect. We walk in and there is a " bar" with 5 stools and the smallest " bar" I've ever seen. I digress.... greeted by the lovely bartender. Ordered 2 top margaritas. Watched her pour this jug of juice. No idea what it is/was. Hardly any Tequila. Our server came to say our table was ready . Grabbed our drinks and went to our table. Omg the drinks were terrible. Honestly... for $15 a piece.. tasted like spoiled orange juice. Our server was so sweet. She noticed we hated our drinks. Ordered skinny margaritas instead. None of that gross juice. Now to the food. I ordered the albandigas soup. AMAZING!! Also got a combo plate. Food was terrific. The location for Miguel's is amazing right across the corner from the Hotel Dell Cornado. In all of Cornado island parking is a nightmare but we found places for two vehicles within 4 blocks and ate there on the first day the outside patio opened. The workers removed the tarps and the staff were taking orders three minutes later. Things went well surprisingly and the food was good. They have a variety of Mexican fare but we had tacos. They serve alcohol and of course margaritas are a favorite here. It is very convenient to the hotel to which this restaurant seems to be connected. We booked a room and the stairs to our room were 10 feet away from the 5 foot wall separating the restaurant from the hotel activities. It is a charming setting in the heart of Cornado. read more

6/27/26 - I went here for a party of two. They are doing construction to the main entrance and redoing the entire outside patio. It looked fine before. You have to enter near the hotel side of the street. We are inside. No wait around 12pm. Ordered 2 items and 15 minutes later it arrived. We left around 12:40pm. 5 stars. Guest had 1 Chorizo con Heuvos for $17 with 3 flour tortillas. Has a little kick he said. I had the Barb's Ceaser which is my fav. Check photos out. read more

We love this Miguel's location. Everyone on staff is very friendly and welcoming. They refill your chips and dip or drinks without you even having to ask. The food is consistently delicious and although we are creatures of habit usually ordering the same thing when dining out, Miguel's is the one place choose to be adventurous and it has not disappointed us! Our table ordered the veggie I child's as, surf and turf burrito, shrimp burrito and for dessert we had chocolate empanadas à la mode, mudpie, and raspberry bread pudding. All so delish ! We had a large group with excellent service they have a large menu of food beers and drinks. We dine out doors and this was a very crowded restaurant With such a large menu you should be able to find something they started out with chips and a queso and a salsa Spice level was very slow but they both had good flavor I ordered the 7 mars which just did not make it very light on fish and shell fish and flavor. This is one of my favorite dishes so personally my standards might be a bit high. Noise level is very high so if your hear to talk with friends you may need to lean forward to hear them. This was walkable from hotels like the Del Coronado and the Glorietta Bay Inn. The non recommend was based on my specific food expectations and I suspect other dishes were excellent based on the group I was with. read more

The service was good. The hosts, the server as well as the runner were all very nice and friendly. They were quick and accommodating. Didn't really wait at all to be checked in, order taken, and cashed out. The main issue is the food. We got the veggie enchiladas. It's not what an enchilada really looks like. I'm not Mexican, and even I know that. You'd think in San Diego it's borderline Mexico, you'd get more authentic dishes than Los Angeles, but the preparation was odd. It's tortillas with what looks like grilled veggies inside and rolled up. It's not sauced over with baked in cheese. I was expecting them to be rolled up and baked with red sauce and melted cheese. Only a few specks of cheese was sprinkled on. The verde sauce was also on the lemony sour end. The refried beans looked canned and the plain red rice you can get at any fast food joint. Nothing authentic or special about it. Just Americanized. The Caucasians that fill the occupancy in this area that come and eat here looks like they don't know what real Mexican food is... it seems they just eat it and think it's Mexican. The other only reason for the two stars is because of their complementary chips and salsa. We came here to enjoy their patio but it seems they're doing renovations. It's not what I was expecting. Ambiance: There is a beautiful outside patio which is where we have always sat in but this time it was raining so we sat inside which was nice. Service: The service is always great! You always get a belly full of chips, salsa, and DELICIOUS queso which they fill up all the time (be careful so you don't fill up). Miguel's Cocina offers very different Mexican food than what we're used to back in North Carolina. It is still good, has a lil' kick, and is authentic (to us at least)! Salsa is always complimentary, but so is cheese dip (queso)! Back in NC they make you pay for that. They are both a bit spicy, but are both fresh (not bought). I tried the carne asada. The steak was surprisingly VERY tender, and had great flavor. They give you a choice of either corn or flour tortillas to make a taco out of it. The rice was so good that I didn't need to put anything on it, and refried beans were great as well! My grandmother's taco salad was great as well! One thing that I like about California is that you can actually eat outside! If you tried to eat outside in coastal NC or anywhere on the southeastern coast, nats, flies, and mosquitoes would be all over you. There is very little of that here. The food comes out fast, and service is professional and sincere! If you're in San Diego or on Coronado Island, this is the place for Mexican! read more

Miguel's is a fun spot in a really cool location, It has a tucked-away feel that makes the whole experience a little more special. The white sauce absolutely lives up to the hype -- it's amazing. Delicious, slightly hidden, mexican place right across from the Del! You kind of have to weave through a back alley to find the hostess. We were seated immediately, outdoors but there were heaters if it got too cold! Service was 10/10. Everyone was so attentive and really just seemed passionate about their jobs and happy to be there! Chips, queso, and salsa was put at our table within 30 seconds of sitting down. Chicken nachos were good! I liked my carnitas plate and my husband liked his tacos of the month. While I was in Coronado I decided to stop for lunch at Miguel's. They're always on hit with their chips, salsa, and jalapenos dip. Today I had the Adobado tacos with rice. Tacos were delicious with the right amount of mangos in the tacos. It gives these tacos a refreshing taste. As always they were busy with lots of tourists but I didn't have to wait at all. Service was good and quick. I haven't had a bad meal at any of their locations. Coronado is nice because if you're able to sit outside you get some great people watching opportunities. read more

We were on the fence about where to eat near Hotel Del Coronado, and choosing Miguel's Cocina ended up being one of the best decisions of our trip. From the moment we walked in, the service was incredible, and our server Jules absolutely made the experience. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely amazing the entire night. My wife had the pork belly taco and the adobada taco, and both were outstanding. I had the chile relleno asada tacos, and they were beyond amazing -- easily some of the best tacos I've had in a long time. Being from SoCal, we consider ourselves true Mexican food connoisseurs, so we don't hand out compliments lightly. There's a reason Miguel's Cocina has been around for so long. This place is a joke for drinks. Staying at the hotel so decided to try this restaurant on our first night which was on Sat, 5 days ago. I asked the waiter what he recommended regarding drinks and he said a Cadillac margarita which I knew he was trying to upsell. I used to be a server so I knew but I was fine with that so I ordered 2, one for me and one for my son. At $20 apiece, I would expect them to be a little strong especially since they include an extra shot. I didn't say anything though. The food was fine. I just came down and ordered two drinks for me and my son about an hour ago to take upstairs and again could barely taste alcohol and again spent almost $40 for both. I came to the pool with my younger son 30 min later and decided to order a Long Island tea because I know those are at least a little stronger. Nope. Just tasted like a sweetened iced tea. I went back and the hostess said she would watch them make it and would get the manager. The manager never came out and she came back with my drink which was not remade because my straw was still in it. It tasted a tiny bit like alcohol but barely and at that point I just gave up and took it. At this point, I really don't feel like talking about the food since my overall experience was very negative. I'm about $100 in just for watered down weak drinks. read more

They really need to clean their bathrooms, they were disgusting. There was actually poop on the toilet. It was late and I'd already driven there, looked for parking (which there was hardly any) and went to the bathroom right away. Tortillas were still hard & the green sauce was overly sour and threw the whole dish off. The rice and beans were decent, but that's about the only positive. Unfortunately, after eating here, I'm now feeling sick, experiencing stomach pain, with nausea and vomiting which makes the experience even worse. If you're used to real, flavorful Mexican food, this place falls way short. It might work for someone who doesn't cook or isn't familiar with authentic flavors but if you are, you'll probably be disappointed. read more

The queso particularly, was really good. I then ordered a classic margarita and a Baja Tacos de Pulpo (aka octopus taco). We started with big baskets of perfect tortilla chips with their special white jalapeño sauce and salsa, with a side of guacamole. each of us had something different for our meals, shrimp quesadilla, shrimp burrito, stuffed calamari steak, and the burrito trio.
