    Carne Asada

Miguel's Cocina offers very different Mexican food than what we're used to back in North Carolina. It is still good, has a lil' kick, and is authentic (to us at least)! Salsa is always complimentary, but so is cheese dip (queso)! Back in NC they make you pay for that. They are both a bit spicy, but are both fresh (not bought). I tried the carne asada. The steak was surprisingly VERY tender, and had great flavor. They give you a choice of either corn or flour tortillas to make a taco out of it. The rice was so good that I didn't need to put anything on it, and refried beans were great as well! My grandmother's taco salad was great as well! One thing that I like about California is that you can actually eat outside! If you tried to eat outside in coastal NC or anywhere on the southeastern coast, nats, flies, and mosquitoes would be all over you. There is very little of that here. The food comes out fast, and service is professional and sincere! If you're in San Diego or on Coronado Island, this is the place for Mexican!

Took it to go after walking over from the beach. Went with a mixed taco plate which came with rice and beans! Ahi tacos were an odd take in a hard shell and lacked other toppings. But man, the chicken taco had a fresh made tortilla with crispy cheese on it. They sent a huge portion of chips, salsa, guac, and queso! Killer!

We had a large group with excellent service they have a large menu of food beers and drinks. We dine out doors and this was a very crowded restaurant With such a large menu you should be able to find something they started out with chips and a queso and a salsa Spice level was very slow but they both had good flavor I ordered the 7 mars which just did not make it very light on fish and shell fish and flavor. This is one of my favorite dishes so personally my standards might be a bit high. Noise level is very high so if your hear to talk with friends you may need to lean forward to hear them. This was walkable from hotels like the Del Coronado and the Glorietta Bay Inn. The non recommend was based on my specific food expectations and I suspect other dishes were excellent based on the group I was with.

My wife and I have been coming to Miguel's on Coronado Island for the past decade every time we come to San Diego. This time we came with our kids. Ambiance: There is a beautiful outside patio which is where we have always sat in but this time it was raining so we sat inside which was nice. Service: The service is always great! You always get a belly full of chips, salsa, and DELICIOUS queso which they fill up all the time (be careful so you don't fill up). Food: We got the following * Carne Asada Tacos: My kids (both boys) ordered these and it came with rice and beans...and they LOVED it...our elder son compared it to La Fiesta (in Mountain View which is our family favorite). * Pollo Asada Burrito: My wife and I were not that hungry but we shared this dish and it was DELICIOUS!! * Flan: My wife and I shared the Coconut flavored flan which was delicious, The food is delicious and well priced! I would recommend this place 1000% DISCLAIMER: I don't have any photos - SORRY! We got so carried away with how good the food looked we ate it...I got one half eaten photo...next time!!

The food is the best you'll find anywhere. The service is over the top friendly, and the setting is gorgeous... tucked away, part inside, part outside. This is my favorite place to visit on Coronado. Try the plain cheese quesadilla. It is dripping in garlic and is cheesy heaven. The guacamole is creamy heaven. And wear your elastic pants for the chips and salsa, fajitas and fish tacos!

NOT so Carne Asada Tacos. (Not sure what kind of meat this was)

By far the worst "Mexican food" we have ever had. The taste was awful...in fact there was no taste at all. I'm not sure what kind of meat I had but it was not carne asada. Sister in law got the chicken tostada and only took two bites...two because she was hungry. There was absolutely not flavor in the chicken. So unfortunate because the service was decent and the ambiance was nice, we sat on the patio. But other than that...no thank you!

Delicious, slightly hidden, mexican place right across from the Del! You kind of have to weave through a back alley to find the hostess. We were seated immediately, outdoors but there were heaters if it got too cold! Service was 10/10. Everyone was so attentive and really just seemed passionate about their jobs and happy to be there! Chips, queso, and salsa was put at our table within 30 seconds of sitting down. Chicken nachos were good! I liked my carnitas plate and my husband liked his tacos of the month. Also got some happy hour margs - large portions! Definitely recommend.

We were in Coronado for a wedding and decided to have lunch at Miguel's. It's hidden away in a quiet courtyard with a nice outdoor space. The staff were very nice and accommodating of a stroller and highchair. I ordered the classic fish tacos that came with fried fish, ranch, and rice and beans. The tacos were good, not great. I wish I'd asked for a chipotle mayo or aioli instead of the ranch - it needed a little kick! The cucumber margarita was delicious. A nice and trusty place to have lunch in Coronado.

This is the menu they were featuring for Mothers Day!

Loved seeing Miguel's on Coronado offering health-conscious cocktails over Mother's Day weekend! The Ultimate Skinny Margarita and La Rosa Spritz were both so refreshing and flavorful. As someone looking for better options, it's exciting to finally find elevated cocktails that work for people who are diabetic, keto, or simply avoiding sugar. They use a new local company named Above Board Liqueurs that uses plant based sweeteners with zero sugar! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service and great experience all around!

This place is a joke for drinks. Staying at the hotel so decided to try this restaurant on our first night which was on Sat, 5 days ago. I asked the waiter what he recommended regarding drinks and he said a Cadillac margarita which I knew he was trying to upsell. I used to be a server so I knew but I was fine with that so I ordered 2, one for me and one for my son. At $20 apiece, I would expect them to be a little strong especially since they include an extra shot. I didn't say anything though. The food was fine. I just came down and ordered two drinks for me and my son about an hour ago to take upstairs and again could barely taste alcohol and again spent almost $40 for both. I came to the pool with my younger son 30 min later and decided to order a Long Island tea because I know those are at least a little stronger. Nope. Just tasted like a sweetened iced tea. I went back and the hostess said she would watch them make it and would get the manager. The manager never came out and she came back with my drink which was not remade because my straw was still in it. It tasted a tiny bit like alcohol but barely and at that point I just gave up and took it. At this point, I really don't feel like talking about the food since my overall experience was very negative. I'm about $100 in just for watered down weak drinks.

Tiny shrimp and mango compared to prior visits.

3/30/26 - we went back there today since hanging around the island today. No wait and we were seated outside fast. Chips, salsa and waters came out fast. About 5 minutes later our order was taken. About 10 minutes later the three meals come out. Two plates we kept, and one was wrong. We ordered double beans and received doubled rice. The non server, the person who brought the meals out took the one plate which was incorrect back to be fixed. The waitress didn't write anything down for the order and memorized the 3 meals. Not sure why you would do this unless you can have 100% memory. 10 minutes pass and the plate doesn't come back. We actually asked to just keep the plate and bring the refried beans out. They took the whole plate. The waitress walks by and we asked if you can check on the correct meal since it was taken back, she probably was unaware it was being redone. The plate was super hot, they made the whole meal over instead of brining out refried beans. By the time everyone started to eat, 2 plates started going cold and the new plate was warm. Never coming back here again to this location. 3 stars overall, food was excellent, the service not so special. Also, I had the salad again as usual, the mango and shrimp portions were way smaller than usual at this location compared today to the visit here in January 2026 and last week in Carlsbad. See photos.

    Adobada Tacos

While I was in Coronado I decided to stop for lunch at Miguel's. They're always on hit with their chips, salsa, and jalapenos dip. Today I had the Adobado tacos with rice. Tacos were delicious with the right amount of mangos in the tacos. It gives these tacos a refreshing taste. As always they were busy with lots of tourists but I didn't have to wait at all. Service was good and quick. I haven't had a bad meal at any of their locations. Coronado is nice because if you're able to sit outside you get some great people watching opportunities.

Is there bottomless mimosas at Saturday brunch?

We do not have bottomless mimosas, but we do offer a bottle of Kenwood Brut for $20.

    What's available for vegan options?

Not sure exactly what was available but they seemed to have plenty of options. We have a couple of vegetarians at work and they ate there and were happy.

Are we allowed to bring dogs? On the reviews, some have said yes but on the yelp page, it says they aren't allowed.

There is an outside area where you can bring your dog. It does not face the Main Street is the entrance on the side

Is it easy to find parking nearby on a weekday afternoon?

it's by Hotel Del , so it can be a challenge but I've found parking , just have to drive around...

Do you still have happy hour on Tuesday's?

    Yes from 3-6pm

    Do they have bottomless mimosas?

Not when I went a couple months ago on a Saturday afternoon.

We were given complimentary chips and salsa and then ordered some drinks that came with watermelon garnish. We shared the spicy mango ceviche and a cheese crisp for our appetizers. Both were delicious! The cheese crisp was very interesting! We opted for the spicy tiger shrimp fajitas for our entree. It's served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans and tortillas. It was very tasty! We ended up trying frozen margarita and an agua fresca as well. The frozen margarita is so refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. The vibe of the restaurant was pretty dope. They have an outdoor seating area blended with indoor seating. The decor was stunning. I loved the wallpaper and light fixtures. The tunes were bumpin'. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.

Our server was Chris and he was OUTSTANDING...very attentive and very friendly. Both managers visited our table several time to make sure we were good. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that what I had was just a bit underwhelming. We ordered the braised beef potstickers, california roll, and grilled and chilled shrimp for appetizers. The meat in the potstickers was very mushy. The california roll was decent. The grilled and chilled shrimp were fine. My husband had the filet - ordered medium well, served medium...the twice baked potato was very small and seemed to be overcooked. I had the lemon chicken entree - the taste was good, but was just a bit dry...it was served with fries, which was fine. The other couple ordered the skirt steak and the braised short ribs which they seemed to enjoy. My drink was amazing - the Amalfi Spritz. For dessert, we tried the butter cake...again, a bit underwhelming and not really good on flavor...I did taste the toffee and caramel, but the cake itself had no taste. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
