This place is honestly disappointing. There's nothing authentic about it. It feels like a whitewashed version of Mexican food, very similar to El Torito. From the table salsa and queso dip to the menu options, I genuinely don't understand the hype. I ordered the veggie enchiladas, and the vegetables were undercooked, basically raw. Tortillas were still hard & the green sauce was overly sour and threw the whole dish off. The rice and beans were decent, but that's about the only positive. Unfortunately, after eating here, I'm now feeling sick, experiencing stomach pain, with nausea and vomiting which makes the experience even worse. If you're used to real, flavorful Mexican food, this place falls way short. It might work for someone who doesn't cook or isn't familiar with authentic flavors but if you are, you'll probably be disappointed. read more

I stopped by here after a long walk by the Coronado beach. I was here on a weekday evening, and the place wasn't too crowded. To start off, they served complimentary chips with salsa and queso. The queso particularly, was really good. I then ordered a classic margarita and a Baja Tacos de Pulpo (aka octopus taco). While the octopus was rubbery, the taco itself tasted pretty good and flavorful. The ambiance was relaxing; I sat on the patio, which had a lively and warm vibe. It's still my favorite Mexican restaurant on this side of the border. We started with big baskets of perfect tortilla chips with their special white jalapeño sauce and salsa, with a side of guacamole. each of us had something different for our meals, shrimp quesadilla, shrimp burrito, stuffed calamari steak, and the burrito trio. They really need to clean their bathrooms, they were disgusting. There was actually poop on the toilet. It was late and I'd already driven there, looked for parking (which there was hardly any) and went to the bathroom right away. I was sure not to touch anything since it was so gross then ordered the fajitas which were fine but I can't get past a dirty bathroom. read more

Four of us enjoyed early dinner Sunday following a show at Lambs players theater. It's a short walk across the street to feel like we hopped over to Mexico. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting and the patio dining was just right. Especially our waitress, Julianna, took great care of us and was so helpful and informative. Stopped here a couple of times when visiting Coronado. The restaurant is located across the street from Hotel Coronado. It is hidden behind a hotel and away from the street. You will find other stores and eateries near them. The staff here is quick to seat you and bring out your food. We came here on a Saturday for a late breakfast/lunch. The restaurant didn't start to get busy till we were leaving. The patio is really cute. There are many papel picados hanging from the patio and lots of plants throughout the restaurant with a big tree in the middle. It is definitely a photo op when here. The food has also never disappointed us. This time, I ordered the tamale dinner plate with rice and beans. It was really yummy. They put a red sauce on top of the tamales, I think the same one that is on the enchiladas. My son had the nachos appetizer and, to me, it could easily be an entree. They serve so much and you can add your favorite protein-chicken or shredded beef. Overall, if you are looking for a place to eat after a day of exploring, try out this place. We were staying a block away and had just come into town for the weekend. We walked over to enjoy a delicious happy hour of food, and he had a Mango blended margarita and I had mango blended mocktail ! We had excellent service. The calamari was nicely prepared fresh calamari and the fish tacos, soup and everything was so good. We were seated next to a large party and didn't hear anything else. On our trip to SD I wanted for us to spend some time on the beach on Coronado Island. I noticed the reviews and was craving Mexican food with some yummy chips and salsa. Miguel's Covina was BOMB! So so tasty that we drive back to LBC w my leftovers after a little beach time and I devoured it later that night! The salsa was so great! Also had fajitas and a michilada. Omg we will definitely be coming back! We have plenty of incredible spots in the LBC but salsa this good ... I could almost drink it. read more

I've been to Miguel's many time's during my many work years on Coronado, always outstanding back in the day. Things and times have changed the restaurant. It was around 3pm, we were a group of 10 dining inside. Initially when the water came one glass was brought full of debris (it happens). Then the first plates came one plate had an easily visible bug on top of the beans, we returned the plate. One person in our group never got her plate, we had to let them know she never got it, service didn't verify we all were served (one person took the order, others brought our plates) - we had to flag someone down to notify. Finally as most of us were finishing our meals the missing plate came, extremely late - and we were still waiting for the re-plate with the bug in it. The compensation they offered should not have been necessary if the service/food/ambience would have been on par (even close to par). I used to frequent Miguel's and looked forward to bringing my family to place I loved to go to. Times have changed, now I have too. I won't be back. read more

We frequent this restaurant anytime we're in Coronado. The location is a little hidden, I like walking through the pathway to get to the host stand it feels like Catalina Island. Chips and queso dip is 10/10. We order from the happy hour menu chicken taquitos and carnitas street tacos they were recommended by our waiter Jorge. They are delicious! Decided to go to Miguel's in Coronado, and I was truly disappointed. To start, parking is always a royal pain, you drive and drive, and if you are lucky, you'll find a spot close by, if not you walk. We all know that some spots in Coronado are old, have been there for yrs, and they will continue there for many more--BUT PLEASE, invest in upgrading your buildings, make them look more appealing, dust them; etc. a clear example here is Miguel's at this location. The food was blah, the same as the service. Chairs, tables are old, walls need new, fresh paint, decoration. I don't think we will go back, time to find and explore new places. We used to like Miguel's, when it was better, this place has looked the same for years, particularly in this area of the restaurant. Today, it just didn't do it for us anymore. read more

Stopped by after skating at the del. It was pretty busy but we got a seat inside where the tables were very close together. They had a pretty long menu and many taco options, where you could mix and match. I went with the shredded chicken enchiladas, and my family got the surf and surf tacos, chorizo tacos, and a couple others. The server started us off with chips and salsa and queso and waters right away, which was faster than expected given how busy it was! After that, service was a big disorganized and took a little while to get the check, but I attributed it to the busyness of the night. Almost all the food was delicious! Only docking a star for thr chorizo tacos which a few of us tasted and all agreed were too salty and overpowered the flavor. Overall, a good dinner choice! read more

Coronado friends first put me onto Miguel's Cocina, proclaiming that it was the best local hangout for Mexican food. Part of the fun is to come upon this hidden restaurant in the courtyard of the El Cordova motel across the street from the iconic Hotel Del. The outdoor seating area topped with a palapa would suit Jimmy Buffet. An indoor space accommodates diners on chilly nights. As soon as we sat down, Andres, a most attentive waiter, set down a basket of crisp taco chips and Miguel's secret dipping sauce. As we perused the menu, he proceeded to answer questions regarding the extensive list of specialties. I settled on the Tres Amigos, a trio of small tacos comprised of a pork belly, a chicken mole & one Ensenada-style shrimp taco. The street tacos were on the small side, but well presented, topped with Miguel's fresh guacamole and secret sauce. After selecting the Ensenada fish tacos, my companion was tempted by the aroma of sizzling fajitas at the next table. Our good-humored Andres changed the order with a "no problem", and my friend feasted on the most satisfying fajitas of Portobello mushroom, sautéed with bell pepper, onion, tomato & mushrooms and topped with guacamole, salsa fresca, surrounded by a heaping serving of rice, beans & warm tortillas. Andres tempted us again with Miguel's flan and 2 spoons. "I should add my own spoon!" he joked, as we dug into the creamy dessert. All in all the meal was a bit pricy at $81 for two, without alcoholic bevs, but the island atmosphere and Andres' friendly but not overbearing banter made it worthwhile. read more

The food was simple yet unique and overall good! We got 2 kid's meals, a bean and cheese burrito and a quesadilla- both were good and my kids ate it all. The chips and salsa were also standard and given to the table when we got seated. They also gave queso, which was so good! I ordered the Miguel's flatbread, which tasted fresh and filling, I haven't had anything like it. The bread portion is more of a thicker/softer crust vs a typical crispy flatbread. The ingredients on the flatbread were good though, so worth a try! It is a very BUSY restaurant and therefore the service could have been better. The servers were running around like crazy, and barely attending the tables to refill water. BUT, it was the holidays and everyone was visiting San Diego that weekend (it seemed that way!), so I will give them the benefit. Everyone was so nice, just rushed! read more

At the time we didn't know there was a patio area you can sit in thats located through a walk way leads to patio. We decided to sitting the patio area that was very nice.
