Miguel's food plates maybe do not look that pretty but they are very tasty. The ceilings are black because as a part of food preparation the flame goes all the way to the ceiling. I had lamb/lentil soup that had a great harmony of the spices. After that I had escargot and they were perfect in their taste and texture. The service is very attentive and I am sorry that I did not get a chance to order the best salmon ever. I tried it and it was so creamy and full of flavor. We had dinner at Miguel's on April 4th at 6:30p. It was recommended by friends and in-fact the couple thar was with us had eaten there earlier in the year. So our expectations were high. Needless to say it was a awful experience. Out of 4 dinners, only one was acceptable and that's a stretch. I had the veal oscar and it looked like cat food! Even the waitress said it looked bad when she noticed ai was not eating it. Another person had duck, and it was so greasy he couldn't eat it. Another has tenderloin steak frites and she said the meat was rubbery like it was re-heated. My husband had dover sole to be de-boned table side, it was not. There was no presentation and he said he doubted it was dover sole because it was a thick fish. All of our potatoes snd vegetables were cold. The server was not around much for us to tell her about our experience. When the only good thing was the martini. All 4 of us will not be returning in a hurry if ever. When our friends asked about our evening and we told about it, she said she had heard the same thing just recently from other people. So sorry this restaurant was a bad experience for all 4 of us. read more

We visited a lot of restaurants on our Siesta Key vacation but this was, by far, the most delicious and memorable. Noah, our server, was welcoming, friendly, and engaging throughout the entire meal. He made us feel like important guests and kept us entertained with our table side selections. We ordered a wonderful bottle of wine and table side Caesar salad that was delightfully tasty. Our entree was Chateaubriand, and there are no words to describe this delicacy! It was cooked perfectly, carved at the table, and served with amazing sides. The food and service were phenomenal from start to finish and of every place we tried on our visit, this would be my first and strongest recommendation. Food was cold. Every course came out cold. Ordered salad with raspberry vinaigrette. It came out with regular vinaigrette. When I told the waiter, he started to admonish me and said it was raspberry and began stirring the container- trying to whisk it and bring up the raspberry purée. Never happened since it was the regular vinaigrette. I was really offended that he didn't take my word for it. One of the other guests at our table ordered the Seafood Vent. Tucked way back in a strip mall in the corner, you find Miguel's. We have gone back several times and are hooked on the "early bird" menu. An appetizer, salad, entree and dessert all for a very modest price. Lots to chose from too. You can also order from the a la carte menu and the pricing is still moderate in comparison to downtown. I really wanted to like this restaurant. Unfortunately, the best part of the meal was the free garlic bread at the beginning. To summarize: (1) The waiter wasn't very familiar with the wines on special. While I don't expect a waiter to have an encyclopedic understanding of the wine menu, I do expect a waiter to be able to say one or two intelligent things about the wine on special. However, if this had been the only fault of the evening, I still would have been willing to award five stars, provided the rest of the meal had been agreeable. (2) The French onion soup was dreadful. Anyone familiar with French onion soup knows that it should be made with a stringy, delectable cheese like a gruyère. Instead, this was made with a gouda. The result was floating chunks of cheese that hadn't fully melted. It looked like icebergs floating in my soup and called up memories of that famous disaster in the Atlantic, the Titanic. (3) Our entrées were unimpressive. Father's beef supposedly came with béarnaise sauce, though if I hadn't been told that, I wouldn't have known. Meanwhile, my lamb was under-seasoned and uninspired, and my sister-in-law's chicken reminded me of those elastic rubber chickens that are given away at the local county fair. Unfortunately, at these prices, it takes more than decent garlic bread to woo me back. Perhaps there was a time when this restaurant was exceptional, but all I'll remember is floating chunks of gouda in my French onion soup. read more

I recommend dining at Miguel's. I would certainly return. They take some risk with thier entre's, so you're going to taste something unique to Miguel's. These are not "me too" dishes. The steak was prepared PERFECTLY the Grouper was beautiful. I tasted my wife's Grouper entre and wasn't a fan but she loved it. So be sure to read the ingredients and don't just assume you know what they're doing, as I said they take risk and explore flavor. Service was excellent. Facilities were clean. The Trio of Dips as we call ourselves visited Miguel's last night and we had an amazing dining experience! This establishment has been around for almost 40 years and it really is genuine French cuisine. We were greeted by the manager Dan and were seated at this cute table next to a stained glass window. The place is small, but the windows are mirrors so it feels so much larger! We started off with appetizers of escargot and scallops, both were extremely tasty. Go online and check out the menu. They claim to have the "best cesar salad in Sarasota, period". It was really good!! Our server was Marshall and he made it table side complete with anchovies, an egg, lots of garlic and parmesan (there were more ingredients)!!!! The salad was very good!!! The best in Sarasota indeed . For entree my I had the Petit Filet Mignon, cooked medium rare and to perfection with potatoes. My description isn't doing this justice, it was all soo soo good. I really just want to highlight the food and the service. As soon as you walk in the door you are getting superior service and high end cuisine. We had a group of five for the early bird (4-6 p.m. daily) at Miguel's French restaurant last night. Overall, it was really good and you can't beat the price starting at $21.95 for a 4-course meal. As you would expect, drinks are a bit pricey. The appetizer was an option of mushroom soup with farro or a small shrimp cocktail followed by a salad with several types of dressings. For the entree, there were 11 options, and dessert was included too. My petit filet mignon was char-broiled with béarnaise sauce at no extra charge and cooked perfectly at medium temperature and wonderful. My salad was okay, but should have been rinsed in ice water and run through a salad spinner and stored in a refrigerated area. It could have had twice the greens on my plate and much less red cabbage, since it was okay, but average. However, the homemade dressings made it acceptable. For dessert, I chose bread pudding (one of about five options). It was good, but had a lot of ice cream on it, which I've never had before on bread pudding. It was okay, but would have been much better with more bread pudding and half the ice cream. My wife had the seafood vent, which was fresh Gulf shrimp, scallops, and salmon in a sauce of Madeira wine and cream stuffed in a puff pastry. Others in our party had perfectly cooked roast duck, steak--frites and supreme de poulent champagne in a puff pastry. Again, everything was really good, including Malachi, our server, so please give them a try, since I know you won't be disappointed. I tend to be a food critic, so please accept this review in the manner it was sent as a positive review with just a couple of items for improvement. Ate here for the second time in as many years. Last year we had a party of six and we had the BEST Caesar salad of our lives. They make it slowly at your table from scratch, and it shows. This year we had the Early Bird specials for under 20 dollars =soup, salad, entree, starch and vegetable, plus dessert. A great bargain. Very disappointing. Hurried, but pleasant, wait staff. Carrot/potato soup was overly sweet with soggy croutons. OK rolls and petit crudite plate. Beef tenderloin was prepared as ordered. However, carrot (?) mouse and mashed potatoes were dry and at different temperature levels throughout. Strawberry ice cream and banana ice cream desserts were melted as the saucers were very warm. Now THIS is a 5 star restaurant! They are everything they should be. The service is near perfection. The food is amazing. You can't go wrong on anything you order. They advertise that they specialize in French and continental cuisine and everything is homemade. The restaurant itself is lovely, tho' unexpectedly situated in the corner of a "strip mall". We did the early bird special which includes individual appetizers, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. The seafood vent was just what I wanted. ..flaky, delicious crust surrounding the creamy rich seafood filling of shrimp, scallops, etc. So delightful. ("...Gulf shrimp, scallops, and salmon in a sauce of Madeira wine and cream stuffed in a puff pastry", oh yeah! ) Hubby got the fish special which was also wonderfully prepared (tho' I think he may have wanted a larger portion:-). My darling kiddo ordered the petite filet& was almost in heaven. I know he wishes we lived in Florida just so he can have that more often because I'm quite sure we'd make our way to Miguel's frequently. Dear grand-ma-ma ordered the duckling, as per her usual, and it looked amazing, so I'm sure those who like duck will be pleased.
