6/3/2025 Mikado 161 Main St. Los Altos, CA 94022 I was walking and exploring DT Los Altos on an early Tuesday evening and stumbled on this somewhat hidden place (obscured by vegetation). I am more of a Bento Box and Entree over sushi guy and they had a strong menu of these selections. Parking in the surrounding city lots was ample but gets tight during high lunch and dinner times. It's a long and narrow clean contemporary booth and sushi bar setup. I was seated promptly and ordered the Calamari Tempura Dinner. The okay salad and above average Miso soup were brought promptly. The squid consisted of long tubes with a crunchy panko breading, no tentacles. This was very tender, indicating the cook knows not to overcook it and turn it into rubber. The accompanying tartar sauce was okay but I would prefer a spicy cocktail sauce. If you like long squid tubes, this place is for you, it's kind of unique. Service was good, obvious attention to detail and worth a repeat for other entrees.

So for a Japanese/ Korean restaurant I thought this was very good. Not sure what to expect when I read the reviews. I had been here years and years ago. One of my favorites in the S Peninsula in Mt View had closed, so a friend and his GF took me here. The overall experience was great. Friendly staff and servers and it was clean. The Bento Box that I had was most excellent with a twist of this Korean Beef Dish that I picked. I most certainly will come back. Thank you.

Stellar from top to bottom. Very good quality seafood. Spicy tuna roll was huge. Teriyaki Alambo was perfectly cooked. Edamame's we're done well. Service is superb here. Huge bento box for lunch for only $22 including soup and salad. The ambiance is so relaxing. Reminds me of being in Japan wherefbe food is not so salty.

Food was pretty yummy, however the portions are just really small for the price. Service was great!

As always do enjoy going to Mikado especially for the lunch bento box special. Today was no exception , as always can get a seat right away with friendly service ( note this is a smaller establishment and not adjustable tables so for large crowds it is limited ). Today was teriyaki chicken , avocado roll and gyoza , yes not so traditional but good quick lunch. Environment is nice , little bit older inside but well kept up and overall good selection of sushi , noodle etc. if in Los Altos give it a try and see what you think

Roten lettuce, the fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small peace of calamari, not fresh at all.

Unfortunately the food is not fresh I got a roten lettuce. The fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small flavorless peace of calamari, not fresh at all. I asked it to go but I didn't get the sauces, utensils, napkins. Very disappointed

We definitely overestimated ourselves and couldn't finish, so... to-go box it is Overall, such a great experience. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll and Miso soup, both to go. The order was ready within 15 minutes and before I got there. I went there on a Sunday evening around 5pm and the place was not full. It is a bit confusign to find, it is on a small street behind Co-America Bank and situated in a strip mall, there is plenty of parking. They had a 2 for 1 specials and so I got 2 orders of the Shrimp Tempura Roll for the price fo one and I was shocked at how small the quantity was, you get 6 pieces with an order for $12.95, see attached photo. I was greeted when I walked in and was attended to immediately. The interior is welcoming and you walk into restaurant with the chefs preparing the sushi to the left and seating in front of them and several tables. There is no outside seating. Not only was the portion small but the shrimp part was tiny, it was mostly rice and not very tasty. The Miso Soup was hot and satisfying. It cost $2.99 You have to ask for utensils, they do not provide automatically and I appreciate that. I might give this another try if I am in the area but I would prefer to check out other sushi places and see how the quantity and prices compare.

It's on the smaller side for a restaurant (maybe seats 30?), making it a super cute spot for date night. We opted for the 17 course omakase and it did not disappoint. The timing of each course was perfect. Even though the chef was also making nigiri for a table of 4, my husband and I never had to wait very long between each piece. One of our most memorable bites was the A5 wagyu. It's grilled on a Japanese charcoal which added a nice smokey flavor to the juicy pieces of wagyu. The kisu tempura was also very delicious and as always, the nigiri's were *chefs kiss*. Each piece of nigiri was perfectly seasoned and incredibly well balanced. If you haven't tried Hiroshi yet, you're definitely missing out. Highly recommend trying Hiroshi at least once if you like omakase. My husband and I are already looking forward to our next visit.

I feel like the value here is pretty good, especially considering the 3 item bento is only $20.95 which is the cost of a 2 item bento at many other Japanese restaurants. The quality, on the other hand, was just ok. Chicken teriyaki was on the stringy side, sashimi didn't feel super fresh, batter on chicken karaage was soggy (though chicken itself was juicy), and the rolls in the Kakaroto sushi sashimi combo were hot which half-cooked the sashimi which was not great. They also used the same teriyaki sauce on many dishes, including the rolls, the teppan sizzling plate, and even the dipping sauce for the chicken karaage. Didn't feel like the teriyaki sauce for chicken karaage was fitting since it usually comes with a kewpie mayo instead. The prawns in the teppan sizzling plate were also clearly from frozen shrimp and weren't fresh at all. Overall I think the quality was a bit of a miss. Service was friendly though and food came quickly. Miso soups did arrive at different times and we had to request missing ones as they were forgotten.

Each roll has 10 pieces, bigger than usual. - Eighty-Eight Roll: loaded with crab, unagi, avocado, salmon, tuna, cucumber and topped with salmon, avocado, spicy tuna, tobiko, and pine nuts.
