Service was quick and the Korean pancake tasted awesome. Super crispy. The banchan was good, and the bimbimbap on the hot stone came out piping hot

Decided to try a new place for dinner. The restaurant is in an area that felt deserted but looking around there were a few other businesses there like Paris Baguette. The restaurant itself was bright and airy. The wait personnel were friendly. We ordered the kimchee and beef soup, spicy pork bulgogi and chicken teriyaki. We thought the portion sizes were quite large and didn't feel like it was too expensive compared to other Korean restaurants. Came with a variety of Bonchon items- boiled potatoes, kimchee, marinated cucumbers, bean sprouts, roasted seaweed. The bonchon were good. The chicken teriyaki was ok. It was like fried chicken with Teriyaki sauce on it. The soup was ok as well a little lighter than a jige. Spicy pork was good. Overall all the dishes lack that extra umami to make you want to keep eating and came back to try other dishes.

Hoping to show of a little of my hometown to my partner, we stopped by Jang Su Jang, a Santa Clara institution. This place has been around for ages and rightfully so. We ordered the bossam single serving and the rose tteokbokki. All of the food we had was so delicious. From the amazing variety of banchan to the creaminess of the rose tteokbokki sauce, everything was hitting the spot. It was way too much food though so we took a bit home, and though the service can be a little short, the food speaks for itself.

Jang Su Jang is one of the Bay Area's few Korean restaurants that still practices classical, technique-driven K-BBQ at a level that feels disciplined rather than theatrical. This is not "trendy K-BBQ." This is craft. Premium Beef Sets The two beef platters show exactly why this restaurant has earned its reputation. Cuts are uniform, balanced, and beautifully marbled - not over-trimmed, not sloppy. You can tell each cut was selected with intent. And then comes the part that separates Jang Su Jang from the rest: The Ajeumma Grill Masters The ajumma who handle the grill are true specialists. They adjust heat, angle, and timing with an instinct that can't be engineered - it's earned through years of repetition. Fatty cuts get brief exposure to maximize aroma. Leaner cuts are rested, turned, and finished with restraint. Everything lands at the table tender, glossy, and perfectly rendered. This is the kind of skill you don't fake. Signature "Wang Mandu" Dumplings These oversized dumplings - often associated with Pyongyang/North Korean culinary tradition - are beautifully pleated, delicate, and generously filled. The wrapper stays thin; the interior stays juicy. A standout item, and a rarity in the Bay Area. Cold Noodles (Naengmyeon) A textbook bowl: * Broth clean and chilled * Buckwheat noodles with bounce instead of mush * Two precise slices of beef on top -- tender, thin, and chosen specifically because they don't fight the noodles' texture A lot of restaurants get this wrong; Jang Su Jang gets it exactly right. Spicy Shredded Beef Noodle Soup Deep red broth, long strands of tender shredded beef, and vegetables cut for texture rather than decoration. A bowl built for cold days, and executed with discipline. Service & Atmosphere Service here is closer to Korean fine dining than casual K-BBQ: * Full uniforms * Structured training * Staff who monitor your grill without interrupting * Adjusting cuts based on who's at the table * Cutting, rotating, and finishing the meat so you don't have to guess You feel taken care of - not rushed, not ignored. And yes, you'll leave with a little grill aroma on your clothes. That's the mark of a proper K-BBQ house - an imprint of the experience. A Note on Hanwoo If you truly want to experience Hanwoo, the most direct path is simple: from SFO or SJC, a few hours in the air puts you in Seoul eating the real thing. But within the Bay Area, Jang Su Jang is the closest expression of classical Korean grilling done right. If any restaurant here were to introduce Hanwoo one day, this is the one that deserves to serve it. In a region full of modern, high-tech, all-you-can-eat K-BBQ concepts, Jang Su Jang stands alone as the Bay Area's classical Korean reference point - precise, disciplined, and anchored in real craft. Five stars- on execution alone. - Dr C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

I was looking forward to eating here BUT, I must agree with other reviews, this was overly priced for the amount of meat that was served. I wasn't aware that there are 2 experiences to choose from. I had to ask the waitress if I could sit at the table w/the grill. As opposed to being sat down at a regular small table in the middle of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and will keep searching for that special Korean BBQ.

Honestly, I was very disappointed with the food here. The seasoning was off, I can honestly make better Korean food at home. We ordered the seafood and beef tofu soup, but the shrimp was tiny and didn't taste fresh at all. The bulgogi was also very dry, tough, and lacked flavor. Spending $80 on just two dishes felt like a total rip-off for this quality. I won't be coming back.

Top tier banchan. I had their tofu mushroom soup with rice which was good but not as spicy or flavorful as I hoped. Banchan was delicious tho! They have lots of options here besides tofu soup so it's great for ppl who want Korean but they're not sure of what to eat and want more options.

Jang Su Jang's food was amazing, with so many side dishes and very authentic-tasting Korean flavors. As a Korean myself, I really enjoyed my entrée -- I ordered the bulgogi, and my friends got the bibimbap and soondubu, all of which were delicious and well prepared. The only concern I have is the price; it's quite expensive for what you get. That said, the quality and authenticity of the food are definitely there.

4 stars. Very good traditional Korean food. The banchan is also very tasty here. I ordered the dolsot bimbimbap and my coworker ordered the mandu jigae. We were both very satisfied with the flavor and portion. This place has been around for a while and the fact that it's still in business shows that the quality and taste is good enough to stand the test of time.

Amazing banchan selection. All the dishes were very well made and portion sizes were quite good. We loved the seafood pancake, as the exterior was very crispy and the interior soft and packed with seafood. The LA Galbi was a good choice too. It was well seasoned but I think a little bit more charring would've made it even tastier. The seafood and beef soon tofu was top tier - very delicious indeed. The mandu in the mandu soup was huge. Overall a very good experience!

    Seng Galbi and chadol baki

The restaurant is located in a quiet shopping mall, a lot of shops are closed, so you will get plenty of parking spots. There, we ordered BBQ- Seng Galbi $75 and Chadol Baki $50, also steamed egg, there will be a service lady cooking it on the table for you, which is nice. There is a lot of smoke, and the lady doesn't talk to us though, in this case, I actually prefer BBQ by ourselves. It tastes good, but for the price you pay, the meat portion is not sufficient, to be honest. But the steamed eggs are highly recommended!

We had Golbi, short ribs $70 and slices beef brisket $50 The tiny slices brisket was so juicy tender and delicious. Golbi was a bit hard to chew. Overall it's a good experience. Their small dishes were all good and steamed egg on the house.

Even without a reservation, we were warmly greeted and quickly added to the waitlist. For a Thursday evening, the restaurant was pleasantly busy and buzzing with energy which is exactly the kind of lively atmosphere we love. There's plenty of parking, and the space itself is spotless, beautifully decorated, and clearly well cared for. The staff were all so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The star of the show was definitely the meat. After trying nearly every Korean BBQ spot in Santa Clara, I can confidently say Chungdam has the best quality in the area. The difference in flavor and texture of the beef is immediately noticeable. It was tender, well-marbled, and full of rich taste. The banchan were outstanding too, especially the raw crab (my absolute favorite). We also loved the steamed egg, japchae, and bibimbap which were all delicious and perfectly executed. Our server, Bryan, took excellent care of us on our first visit and made the whole experience even better. He even told us about a back room that you can reserve for special occasions or even for hosting after work gatherings or dinners with friends We'll definitely be back soon! We ordered the Signature A set menu for two. This set consisted of: Glass Noodles w/Beef and Mushrooms - really is Japchae, glass noodles stir fried with beef slices, mushrooms and cabbage. A savory, umami dish to start the palate. Selection of Banchan - spring onion pancakes, creamy macaroni, chili crab, cabbage kimchi and seaweed. All very tasty, especially the chili crab (sweet tasting meat). Bibimbap - a full size serving of rice, mixed vegetables, ground beef served in a hot stone bowl with a fried egg on top. My wife who is very picky about bibimbap, said this was very good. Soy Bean Stew - aka beef tofu soup, spicy, hearty and flavorful with tender cubes of beef. Marinated Short Rib - two very good sized rib steak, tender (Wagyu like) and grilled to perfection by the staff. The Signature set really did show off the best of what Chungdam has to offer.

We got the lettuce wrap (aka leaves) glad we got it because it made it feel healthier. banchan: came with: square little rice paper wraps (not as healthy as lettuce but something), kim chee, sprouts, marinated onions with peppers (spicy! but I'm a wimp, any spice is too much for me), jap chae I didn't like the self-order on tablet. (at least it wasn't order off phone, I really hate that) at other restaurants if you order enough, they "service you" free steamed egg. Here I had to buy it myself. negative, there was a dripping pipe on the floor, and we had to point it out for them to wipe it, but then it dripped more. was that water? or grease? who knows. we had to suggest they put a towel so I didn't have to stare at it creeping towards me all night. fun korean pop music in background. cheaper feeling ambiance. definitely coming again for the food and minimal line. didn't like that tip defaulted to 20% minimum (then 23%, 28%) but at least they calculate that pre-tax.

Also enjoyed the fish roe rice bowl that came with it but I think I could've used a bit more rice since the crab was more savory. **Spicy marinated crab: Seemed to be a bigger portion than the soy crab but it was different type of crab. This marinade was too sweet imo. ** Bossam: Pretty standard and tasty but the large size wasn't very large. Service was so friendly and sweet. We did have to ask multiple times to get a refill on banchan and by the time it came out, we had finished our main dishes already. The parking lot here is usually tough to find a spot but maybe because we beat the dinner rush, there was plenty.
