I was craving some bossam and my mom was craving bibimbap and tofu stew, so we came to Jang Su Jang on a Friday around 1pm - it was pretty empty, with only one other party inside the entire time we were there. It's quite large with many tables and chairs inside, and it's nice and brightly lit. Service was quick and efficient, and they moved us to a larger table after hearing how much we were ordering We definitely overordered and got a seafood pancake to start, the smaller size of bossam, a kimchi tofu soup, and a beef bibimbap. The bossam took a while to come out, and by then we were already pretty full off of the pancake, soup and bibimbap. Service sizes are generous, and this definitely would've been enough for 4+ people to share. There was a great assortment of different banchan - my favorite is the jelly! The pancake was nice and crispy, with a good amount of seafood, the bibimbap had a great amount of crispy rice at the bottom and the tofu soup was comforting and exactly what we were looking for. The bossam had a lot of meat - I kind of wished there was more radish and napa to go with the meat, but it was tender, not too fatty, and satisfying. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. Jang su jang is still a classic staple, and has a delicious offering for almost any korean craving you could want. First time there, we didn't know if we entered and sat down ourselves or if a host seated us so it took a few minutes to get a table (i'd say less 5 mins for a 3 person top). The servers were nice and kind to us. There's private rooms inside too for bigger parties. We got the japchae, beef stew, and LA Galbi (not pictured). The japchae was pretty average, but I did enjoy the amount of veggies and meat! 8/10 My favorite was the LA Galbi. It was marinated soooo well and deliciously. If we want to have fancy Korean food then we will come to Jang Su Jang. Besides regular tables, they have a lot of BBQ tables so you can see your food (ribs, beef, etc) being cooked in front of you by the waitresses. The waitresses used to wear their traditional puffy dress years ago but no more. The food is still good but they delay delivering the banchans until food is ready. So we were hungry waiting and when food is finally ready they deliver everything together so we had too much to eat. I think this is something to improve. Decided to try a new place for dinner. The restaurant is in an area that felt deserted but looking around there were a few other businesses there like Paris Baguette. The restaurant itself was bright and airy. The wait personnel were friendly. We ordered the kimchee and beef soup, spicy pork bulgogi and chicken teriyaki. We thought the portion sizes were quite large and didn't feel like it was too expensive compared to other Korean restaurants. Came with a variety of Bonchon items- boiled potatoes, kimchee, marinated cucumbers, bean sprouts, roasted seaweed. The bonchon were good. The chicken teriyaki was ok. It was like fried chicken with Teriyaki sauce on it. The soup was ok as well a little lighter than a jige. Spicy pork was good. Hoping to show of a little of my hometown to my partner, we stopped by Jang Su Jang, a Santa Clara institution. This place has been around for ages and rightfully so. The attitude of the servers was not welcoming. 2. Side dishes are supposed to be refillable up to three times, but even getting a refill was difficult. The restaurant is located in a quiet shopping mall, a lot of shops are closed, so you will get plenty of parking spots. There, we ordered BBQ- Seng Galbi $75 and Chadol Baki $50, also steamed egg, there will be a service lady cooking it on the table for you, which is nice. One of my friend's favorite Korean restaurants in the area and I was so excited to try it. They had a variety of traditional dishes from tofu soups to noodles to bbq meats. They had some bbq tables in the restaurant as well but we decided to order some dishes to try. Soon after we ordered, they brought out probably one of the largest arrays of banchans I have ever gotten at a restaurant. The kimchi, potato and fish tofu were my favorites. Mushroom Soon Tofu - The soup was comforting, warm and mildly spicy. I think we wanted a little more punchiness in the dish but all ingredients from the tofu and mix of mushrooms were soft and cooked well inside. Bossam Jungsik - I had been craving good bossam and this one hit the spot. The pieces were perfectly soft and had a nice bite to them. The combination of radish kimchi with the pickled radish and the lettuce was so good, making the best wrap of sweet, sour, spicy and freshness. We only ordered one serving size and it was so filling already. The staff were very efficient and attentive, helping us pack our food at the end of our meal. Jang Su Jang is in a strip mall so quiet that at first, I wondered if I was at the right place when I got there for lunch. But as soon as I walked through the doors, I knew I had found it; the restaurant bustled with activity, and servers moved deftly among the tables with steaming bowls of stew and sizzling plates of meats. The place looked inviting, and I was eager to have lunch. It wasn't long before we were seated, and the servers quickly set glasses of water before us. The menu had a variety of entrées, and I took my time to look through the soups, noodles, barbecues, and meats before deciding on a beef bibimbap. So much of a good food experience is presentation, and this was no different with my bowl of bibimbap. Upside-down fried egg over a mountain of lettuce and white rice, meats on the right, vegetables on the left, and a garnish of sesame seeds on top. Everything had been placed with flair. The food itself tasted good too. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful, and as I made my way around the bowl from the beef to the vegetables, I realized that the vegetables complemented one another. Umami shiitake and bean sprouts, crunchy daikon and tender carrots, crispy seaweed and sauteed spinach. The fried egg on top was runny and just so. I used to enjoy going to Jang Su Jang on El Camino Real. It was one of the first few Korean restaurants in the area with a good sized space and an inviting atmosphere. In the beginning, the food was excellent, but over the years, it has become just okay. The side dishes are decent, though nothing particularly special. That said, I still really like their yookgaejang and mandooguk, and I wouldn't mind going there with a group. However, with more Korean restaurants opening along El Camino Real, I now have more options to choose from which is definitely a good thing! read more

The servers were very nice and attentive and the whole experience reminded me a lot of restaurants in Korea. The food was pretty authentic, filling, and delicious. The banchan is among the best I've had in America and has a huge variety. Cons: I had to dock a star for the price. For three people it came out to ~$50 a person and we did not get BBQ. What use to be one of the premier Korean BBQ Restaurants in Santa Clara has now unfortunately become poor in the Ambiance sector. Thankfully, their food has not. The food is fresh and good. But the way they cook it is terrible. They cook for too long and make the meat very old and dry. And the way they light the fire is very dangerous. They put the grill lighter right on the grill top cover and the fire jumps very high immediately, almost to our faces. For the first time, we were shocked, and we thought that might be an accident. But for the second time, the waitress did exactly the same thing. We couldn't understand and asked her why not lift the cover and put the grill lighter deep for a bit. The waitress said "we just like to do this, this can save time". I don't understand how it can save time, but obviously it's not an accident, it's just the way they light the fire. I also don't understand what she meant "like to do this", does it mean they like to set their guests on fire? This plaza is like a ghost town. You have most of the parking lot to yourself. Saw soy marinated crabs so I had to order it. I didn't like that it was covered with bell peppers & not a lot of meats on the crabs. Small portion for $55. I could've had a whole dungenous crab for that price. Only 3 banchan was good.
