I'm glad I found this place as it's close to my work and home. I've worked in the area for quite a while and I was surprised to find out that they've been here for over 20 years. I stopped in on the way home from work to grab some sushi to go. I was greeted immediately and given a menu when I told them I was ordering for take-out. I was even offered something to drink while I waited! The pricing for the sushi was fair and there was a lot of variety to choose from. The sushi that I order was delicious and tasted light and fresh. I will say that it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but it was still very good. I have never felt the need to post a review until visiting Mikado sushi. My friend and I decided to go here on a whim. Our original go to spot was closed so we quickly found this sushi restaurant to grab dinner. When we first walked in it had a feel-good atmosphere, a majority of tables were full and several conversations filled the air. I'm use to walking into a sushi restaurant and it's quiet and a little awkward so this switch of pace was amazing. Next is the food. It was freaking delicious! We order the same kind of rolls we would get at our other sushi spot but this locations tasted and presented 10x better. The Sunshine roll was refreshing! The Mango California roll was tropical and sweet! The Sweet and Sour roll had the perfect amount of crunch and balanced flavor! The customer service was phenomenal! We sat at the bar and watched how the chefs prepared the rolls with skills far beyond the average man. Towards the end of the dinner we felt the perfect amount of full which allowed us to order desert. We requested green tea ice cream which wasn't on the menu. The younger chef found a way to accommodate us making my friend and I extremely happy! If you're curious the Ice was also divine. 10/10 would recommend to a friend! read more

YELP TO THE RESCUE! We were in the area of Chandler and was hungry for Japanese food. We thought to give it a TRY! GLAD WE DID!!! Small cosy place but, very sanitized. Hardly anyone was in there and maybe it was the time that we went in the early afternoon (4pm). Our hostess was very nice and polite as well as the Chef, he waved to welcome us. We usually start off with some nice hot green tea and to our surprise their green tea was no package green tea, you would normally get and could purchase at any asian market here in phoenix. It was very satisfying delicious! They had happy hour so we got our favorite, which is our Hamachi fish tail. It was cooked to perfection, where it slips off the bone and fish meat was nice, soft and very tasty. It was not dry at all. My husband loves the seaweed salad - it has a sweet but, salty taste and its also refreshening! salad. Yaki Soba - was plentiful noodles with the right amount of sautéed vegetables. Not too much salt and not to bland but, enough to start getting us full! Green Mussels are my FAVORITE! I love their teriyaki sauce that thickens over the cabbage. The mussels were glazed with japanese mayo (another favorite) and with the teri sauce added. It was so divine as I ate almost all of it and I had to share one piece with my husband! Our waitress/hostess was laughing because the cabbage on the plate was for decoration but, I ate it all too Last but, not least I wanted to try their Scallop nigri - just plain. Nothing on it. Waitress was asking "Are you sure?" and I said YES! I know most ppl from Arizona are not accustomed eating RAW fish or seafood but, I grew up with eating raw fish straight from the ocean so I really enjoyed just having nothing on it! This is a nice HOT SPOT! We are glad we found this place and when we are in the area again. Definitely stop by or we can bring the big kids here for a early dinner.... We will see! Absolutely a gem in Chandler Az. This is a must try the sushi is amazing and the options are vast. The lunch menu is extremely good and the bento is well priced and gives a ton of options. Everything from hand rolls to deep fried has been delicious. The service has been average to great and I've complaints as our server is always attentive. The ambience is very relaxing and quiet although they do have televisions on. A decent music selection plays in the background. read more

Mikado offers a pick two, three, or four bento box lunch special that includes a good selection of sashimi, sushi, rolls, tempura, and katsu and comes with rice and miso soup. You can sub a salad for rice or add it for a dollar. The sushi is good (though not great) but the prices are very reasonable. The only real downside is that sometimes the kitchen/servers get bogged down in the lunch rush. Getting there at 11:45 v. 12:15 makes all the difference. read more

Expansive menu. The miso soup was standard fare. The ginger salad was typical iceberg lettuce. They build the salads ahead of time apparently because the dressing looked to have been applied some time ago. The sushi was pretty good but a little mushy in spots. Maybe too much rice. Best sushi I have had in Arizona and it's for a great price. The white tuna is the special key here at this sushi place. I don't know any other place that has such delicious white tuna or even have white tuna. The sushi is also very fresh and the pieces are thick. I really enjoy getting their sashimi combo dish. I'm picky about textures of food that I eat so it is surprising to me that I'd like sushi as much as I do. I've eaten sushi all over the place. I am confident in saying that I like Mikado the best. Their rolls are good sized (some places have really small rolls!) and taste great. The chefs are great too. Almost every time I've gone I've had someone sit next to me that is a regular and swears by Mikado sushi. So what is the bad? Sometimes when you walk in the staff is not super active at seating you. If you want to sit at the bar, then just walk over and sit down. If you want a seat then walk over to the register (it is only like 15 feet from the door in plain sight) and ask if it is OK if you sit at whatever booth/table you like. The staff all works together so when you sit at a table you will be served by all the chefs and all the servers - and thusly you will be tipping all of them collectively. So for this reason, it really doesn't matter where you sit! I'm not saying to just sit wherever, I'm just saying be proactive. It helps you and it helps them. My favorite roll is the Crunch Roll, which you can get for cheap during happy hour (until 6pm). During HH I can get 2-3 rolls and a tea for about $12. Outside of HH it will be more like $18-20. Also, the menu has pictures of all their food (well, 90% of their food), so you can kind of browse that way too if you like to look at what you are buying. So if you want to be waited on hand in foot and have a restaurant that looks like a million dollars then this is not the place for you. However, if you want good sushi, then this is the place. If you are curious about something, then ask them what they think. I see many of the regulars asking all the time what is fresh and good and the chefs will be very honest about what is good and bad and they will order/serve accordingly. Also, the most you come the more you will become "family" to them. You will start to get samples, especially if you sit at the bar and chat with the chefs. There you have it... the best sushi place I've been too and better yet, it is close enough for me to walk to! read more

There is ample seating for groups in booths, tables, and the sushi bar. They also have a multitude of LCD screens playing sports and other tv shows. The background music was an energetic retro 90s beat on Utopia radio. My servers were very courteous and took my order quickly. They have great lunch deals here. Pick 2 for ~$8, Pick 3 for ~$10 I got the mixed tempura, chicken teriyaki and salmon sashimi which also comes with white rice and miso soup. My food was out in less than 10 mins. I was impressed with the quality of the salmon sashimi. It was very fresh and a vibrant orange. I have seen in the past how some sushi bars have tried to pawn off pale orange salmon as fresh when it's clearly been frozen and defrosted. The mixed tempura was lightly battered with just the right amount of crunch. Lastly, the chicken teriyaki was tender and scrumptious. Getting the 3 combo was just the right amount for me. I've been enjoying this place for quite a while, figured I should finally review :) This is not a trendy, upscale, over-the-top sushi place. You will not find the absolute best, most exotic items. But what you will find is reasonably priced Japanese fare that is fresh, tasty and consistent. I've enjoyed their sashimi offerings - the tuna and the spicy salmon avocado. I've over-indulged on several of their delicious sushi rolls. And my wife is partial to their Tuna Tataki - great sauce! Has items for my picky, non-sushi eater (fried prawns or the pork tenderloin). Their service is always friendly but they get distracted or confused or just lost (can't quite figure it out). And I've not seen any advantage to sitting at the bar as in any other sushi place.
