The real deal... THE best homestyle restaurant meal I've had since leaving the south over 10 years ago. My country fried steak was perfectly cooked & flavored and the gravy was exactly right. The hash browns were top notch, grilled crunchy outside & not at all greasy or oily. The wheat toast was exactly as simple as it should be & delicious with butter & strawberry jam. My scrambled eggs left a little to be desired but there's hot sauce on the table to fix that right up. My lunch neighbor had the Ulitmate Fried Chicken Sandwich (pic) and he likes it so much gets it every time he eats here. And the coffee? The coffee comes from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. The plates in my pics look small but in fact are large plates & might be too much food for some people. Absolutely unacceptable experience. 3 out of 4 plates served to our table were chipped, which is not only careless but honestly dangerous. When we pointed it out, the waiter casually admitted they already knew about the issue and were "waiting for new plates to arrive." If you KNOW your plates are damaged, why are you still serving food on them? They offered to replace the meals, but we were already halfway through eating and had our 3-month-old baby with us, so sitting there longer was not practical. We asked for some form of compensation considering the situation, but both the waitress and the manager flat out refused. The manager's attitude was dismissive and unapologetic, as if serving food on broken dishes was completely normal. When I said I didn't feel comfortable paying full price for such poor and unsafe service, the waitress threatened to call the cops. Imagine threatening customers instead of taking responsibility for your own restaurant's negligence. In the end we were forced to pay the full bill for a terrible experience. Horrible customer service, zero accountability, and complete disregard for customer safety. Will never return and would strongly advise others to avoid this place unless you enjoy eating off broken plates and being treated disrespectfully. read more

Drove by yesterday and was excited to try it. Showed up right at 8am open. First impressions were great. Nice ambience, good design. Then things went downhill. No phone service in there, so I asked the waitress for the wifi password. She didn't respond, turned out she had AirPods in and hadn't heard me. Had to wave her down. She paused whatever she was listening to and said "no wifi," even though two networks were showing up (looked like private restaurant networks). Not having wifi isn't a huge deal on its own, but combined with no phone service, it's a problem. Food came out and our scrambled eggs, ordered well done, were runny. Bacon had fuzz on it. Nobody checked on us after that. Felt like the staff was hiding out in the kitchen. We gave up waiting and went to the counter to pay. Situated right on a nice corner pocket next to a bunch of industrial parks, it'd be easy to write off Mikayla's as just another cafe, but I'd suggest at least giving them an honest whirl. While the service could stand to be improved, the food is pretty darn good and it was a pretty time-efficient experience. Moderately sized private parking lot, but they didn't seem too busy on a Saturday morning so shouldn't be too hard to find a spot. Service was less attentive, but they'll at least get food to you in good time. We didn't get checked in on at all and minimal interaction despite table service. Breakfast wrap Cajun sausage - 5/5 Solid mildly hot sausage wrap with a simple mild tomato salsa. Very good iteration of the breakfast wrap. It's compact and cleanly wrapped with a good distribution of smooth cheesiness and potato with nice little bits of crisp from the pan frying, interspersed with salty sausage with a lovely snap on the skin. Comes together really well and as a mid-sized portion. Chicken & Gravy biscuit benedict - 5/5 Blew my expectations out of the water as it turns out to be a rather unique take on the benedict. It's a gravy ride the whole way down with a very crispy bready chicken patty, which while it wasn't juicy the texture matched the biscuit quite well with a drier but flavorful fry profile. Throw a soft egg on top and a well pan-fried biscuit and you have a pretty darn unique benedict with the flowing mushroom gravy. Croissant French toast + South Bay Style 4/5 Surpsingly well balanced between the nutella and banana with a bit of crunchy bits from the coconut shavings, while being pretty smooth. The french toast part was the slightly weaker part since it was a bit dry and could do with a bit more fluffiness; didn't quite get the whole croissant thing out of it, but the south-bay style was certainly quite elaborate on top and evened it out methinks. This got brought out first though so if you're treating it like "dessert" then I'd be clear in specifying to avoid having it just sit. read more

Service is friendly, though sometimes a bit slow, and the food is consistently delicious. I always order the spicy crab cake Benedict with hash browns. The crab cakes are flavorful and crispy on the outside, creamy on this inside. They pair perfectly with the spicy hollandaise, which is more savory than a standard hollandaise and only has a mild kick. The eggs are well poached with a runny yolk and the hash browns are consistently crunchy all the way through. The chicken and waffles is also pretty good, with super crunchy and moist chicken. My friends have tried the ultimate grilled cheese and smokehouse burger, but found both to be a bit too rich and salty. I highly recommend sticking with the spicy crab cake Benedicts! read more
