The sales person told me my back brakes were not working at all and that my rear wiper needed to be replaced and provided me an estimate recommending that they do the repairs. I told them I needed to take a look myself. I took the car home and I fully tested my rear brakes and rear wiper. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with either. I feel the Mike More Miles salesperson was not honest with me. He also NEVER showed me the issue while the car was supposedly on the lift. He also pressured me to get the job stated, using his price estimate. I then researched other reviews for this business, and found more than several complaints that mirrored my own! Mike More Miles fabricated the need for repairs that my car did not need. I feel I was treated unethically at this establishment, and I will not return. We replaced a battery in one of our cars during October 2022 with Mike More Miles. Today I took the car in for an oil change; battery was tested and failed; it was supposed to last for 30 months. I was called right away and Rick informed me of the situation. Battery was replaced at no charge. We've been taking our cars here for over two years. I want to like this place. I do but I've spent 3 trips and $1200 to fix my AC on my GMC Sierra but today 7/18 it's broken again. Three trips. 1 they simply recharged the AC and said I was good. That lasted 24 hours. 2 they replaced the compressor, that lasted about 30 days 3 when the AC WENT OUT AGAIN they said I had a loose cap of some sort of cap and recharged the AC. WELL GUESS WHAT?? it's out again. Screw this place and their incompetent service. I'm done. Heat index of 105 today. Thanks for nothing read more

Vehicle overheating. Mike more miles says 10k motor replacement due to 'melted pistons'. Dealer says coolant was now flushed and they can't get it to overheat anymore- neither can we now that we have the vehicle back. Dealer checked the engine with no issues to report. Nice people. But there's a huge difference between a coolant clog and 'melted pistons'. Sorry boys. If the pistons were melted it wouldn't have driven to your shop. Nor would it have driven home after your misdiagnosis. read more

At first they were great. The last three times, I had dashboard lights come on as I was driving away. The last time, I asked if they could check a turn signal that a new bulb would not work. They told me that it was a bad socket and no one carried the bulb socket for a 2007 Honda Odyssey anymore. I checked and they in a number of places. Then when leaving, locks don't work, turn signals don't work. I had to have a computer board replaced that controlled those. I feel they had someone who didn't know what they were doing and I paid for his hands on training. I can never go back there. read more

Joined yelp just to write this review and I see I'm not the only one who has as well. My air conditioning had gone out in my '08 Mazda3. I was quoted $1100 and at pickup was charged $1900...over $1000 of which was for labor. I waited for the mechanic to return to the shop to inquire where the price difference came from. The owner was also there at pickup and was aware of the discrepancy and was of no help. They insisted they quoted $2000 for the job, however I told Scott over the phone before authorizing the work to be done that I wasn't expecting to pay 1100 to repair air conditioning on a car that I'm not planning to have by the end of the year and that is probably only worth $3000. I absolutely will never take my car here again and recommend taking your car anywhere else, especially if you are a woman. Updated: The opportunity to make it right was before I left your shop. You also have my contact information and could have reached out at any time since this happened. By the way, I got a quote from another Merlin's which was $1100 for parts and labor for the same exact work that was done proving you did indeed take advantage of me. read more

We have been loyal customers of Merlin in Yorkville. The staff are professional, courteous and really want to give you the best service for your car without gouging your wallet. For example, I took my car to another car repair place and they tried to scare me into major work. I returned to Merlin in Yorkville and had them check out my car. Merlin was able to check my car out and correctly diagnose the problem. As a woman, they've treated me fairly and explained services without trying to scam me!!!!! read more

The reason i joined Yelp... I went to this shop for an oil change. While I sat waiting, the tech came towards me and told me that my brakes were bad, my transmission fluids were bad and that of course I needed to change my air filter. My husband happens to be good friends with a guy that runs owns a mechanic shop. After that report I had my husband take in my car to see his friend and he told me that the car was in good shape and to bring it to him after another 15,000 miles.... I do feel like they tried to take advantage of a singe woman, very disappointed and will not be returning for routine oil changes. read more

$2480.00 for a check up, I asked these first time to visit operators? to check over and prepare a 2002 Grand Cherokee with 72000 miles. I got a estimate for $499.00 72k maintenance package, plus change the drive line oils please. I got plenty of work done by 2 days end, and not complaining that they FAILED to check battery condition, rear plate light, anti-collision light bulb and then the worst of all... they spray lube the door jambs with yellow lube, worst color, got it on the exterior as well running down the door seams and on hood surface, gross. I spent over $14.00 on Napa brake cleaner to dissolve and wash the yellow nasty which attracted small flies before it dried, GROSS, the color of Jeep white, clean no rust or dirt before Merlin's men got nasty with their fingers and thumbs spraying yellow *** nasty on my Jeep. read more

The owner has been working on cars all of his live, and the employees are very skilled also. DO NOT MAKE AN OPPONENT! At Merlin 200,000 miles they will take an opponent but will not honor it. I called at 11:00am for an oil change. I asked if they are busy. Merlin said the earliest I can do is 1:30 I said okay. Came in at 1:15 they told me it's going to be an hour wait. Came in to have gas pedal looked at due to sticking in cold weather. I don't know much about cars and they are always very understanding when I explain any problems I have had with my car; and they explain things to me in a way easy to understand. Have been to shops in past where they see a young woman who doesn't know a ton about vehicles and use that to thier advantage and to my expense. Good group of guys here! I was very disturbed today when I waited almost 2 hrs for an oil change. A lady came in after me for an oil change also and was told there was a wait. She left and came back about 30 mins later and was in and out within 20 mins. I even paid before her and still had to wait 15 mins for them to bring out my car. This was my second visit to them and was taken care of much better the first round. The manager seemed to ONLY have interest in dealing with CERTAIN customers. But it only takes one bad experience to lose my business. I will go back to Jiffy Lube in Yorkville. Just my two cents! read more

Went in for a steering problem and had them check the parking brake. The original estimate was about $400. Final bill about $800. Driving away after service I noticed the steering problem was still there. Over a short period of time it got worse. When I took it back they said they needed another $580 to fix it correctly. The owner said the problem was a coincidence and not related to the first diagnosis. He finally offered to fix it correctly for the cost of the new parts. I chose not to return because I believe the first repairs I paid for were not the real problem and I do not trust the competence or honesty of the shop. read more

I have gone here many times with a good experience. Last oil change, they made a huge careless mistake when installing new oil filter did not install o ring correctly, causing all my oil to leak out and my red oil light to come on!! Now my vehicle is burning oil!! They told me I would have a credit, then denied ever giving me one, then denied that they made a mistake after they admitted they did a week prior. Not to be trusted, especially with something so simple! If you can't change oil properly, what else are they doing wrong?!!! read more

I spoke with Bruce this evening regarding rates for front brake rotor/pad change. I had mentioned to Bruce that I was interested in providing my own rotors and pads. Bruce explained to me that "there is nothing in it for me to do your brakes", being that he would essentially make no money off of me. He stated that "if I were a regular customer , or someone he'd seen in the shop often" then he would do the brake job for me....... What Bruce didn't realize (because he didn't ask nor inquire about) is that I just purchased a 2002 Toyota 4Runner with 125k miles. I "planned" to make this Merlin 200,000 mile shop my "Go to" shop for all of my future needs for this vehicle. My brakes were just a quick fix so that I could safely operate this vehicle (very bad warped rotors). I have very many items that have yet to be addressed (full tune-up, all fluids in the trans/differentials changed/flushed, new shocks in the front, new timing belt/water pump belts, and the list goes on and on.......... Looks like Bruce missed out on a pretty good customer relationship and cost this location and franchisee quiet a bit of my money. But apparently, he really only cares about "his regulars". I will be taking my business to Advance Auto Parts (here in Yorkville), Wholesale Tire (here in Yorkville), and their biggest competitor (here in Yorkville ) Tuffy Auto Services. read more

These guys are real pushy and sell stuff that is not needed. Stay away especially if you are a woman, completely different stories when I take it in vs The wife. Any other place besides this one will be better. And if you complain to management they don't care the just move on to the next sucker. I have used Merlin 200,000 miles in Yorkville for both of my vehicles for a while now as the location is very conveniently located near my home and they seem to do a good job. While I generally only have them do oil changes I would not have a problem with them providing other services that I can't do. I scheduled an oil change online for Memorial Day weekend and Bruce was very honest with me as it was going to be busy that weekend and informed me I may have to wait. I intended on dropping off my vehicle and appreciated the follow-up email. I will admit I was running late for my appointment, as I walked in the door another person who acted as if he was from out of state walked in behind me and was put into the schedule for a general oil change before me. I wasn't worried about it since I had an appointment, I figured a walk-in would come after a scheduled customer (WRONG!!). The customer that walked in behind me proceeded to thank them for squeezing him in as he had been turned down at four other locations. Bruce and Scott were both honest in that it was going to be a challenge for them to get everything done in time, but they were going to keep at it. I was informed that I should return around 3:30 as they intended on closing at 4:00. I returned around 3:30 to see the gentleman that walked in behind me still sitting there. I overheard that the gentleman who walked in after me, without an appointment was going to be finished up in a few minutes and they were sorry for the long wait. I will give the location owner Dolph Young credit as this gentleman was an Army Veteran and he gave him the oil change for free. Scott and Bruce shook his hand, thanked him for his service and he was out the door and on with his day. While, I being a previous Merlin customer (at this specific location), a Yorkville resident, with a scheduled appointment, and a current serving military member was still waiting. At this point they did have my car on the lift but they didn't have anyone to change the oil, they figured I would only be another 15 min before things were rolling. I had them pull my car from the lift as I had previously scheduled commitments that I couldn't wait any longer for my car. My car was at this location from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 with a scheduled appointment for an oil change and it could not be completed. While I am not a small business owner, I have spent most of my professional career in various customer service roles and this made no sense to me. How does a business continue to grow when they jam the schedule so full they can't service scheduled appointments? Walk-in customers get service before a customer that actually has an appointment and while I am sure it is rare, they turn around and give that service away for free (once again a great gesture and I give them credit) to someone who sounded like he was from out of town and more than likely has no reason to return to this location. I was shocked at how the situation was handled and will not be doing business with Merlin 200,000 miles anytime soon and for the Yorkville location that ship has sailed entirely. I can't wait for the Jiffy Lube in Yorkville to reopen; the extra cost will be worth it as my time is definitely more valuable to me than it is to Scott and Bruce! read more

UNSAFE. Do not do business with them. After replacing my brakes with used parts, the brake pad was not installed property TWICE. Do I have to go back a third time? They were very busy and they must not have any quality control. Its about money, NOT SAFETY. NEVER AGAIN. And they charged over $600. Dishonest - Took my 2004 Blazer in for an oil change etc and I was informed that my Bilstein shocks were leaking and should be replaced, I took it to my regular mechanic and he assured me that they were fine. Trying to take advantage of a woman. The tire prices here are outrageous, call Flatso's by the bowling. read more

Pushy sales and difficult to deal with overall. They are real pushy about sales, from the other reviews I see here I'm not the only one. We ran into a real problem with them because I like to bring in my own oil and filters for oil changes, most places will take any coupon they offer and they don't have to use their oil and filter no problem, why wouldn't they right, after all they save a little money on the filter and oil they don't have to use. For over a year this Merlin's did this without a problem, now all of a sudden it's a big problem. It seems to be cause we have newer cars and we mostly come in for oil changes. When I tried to argue my point of their inconsistency and the fact that is cost them less to by not using their supplies they kept on telling me they're not a Jiffy Lube, as if this work of oil changes are far below them. Apparently if you have a newer car, come for mostly oil changes and do not take every one of their recommendations on service they want you to buy from them you'r not a good enough customer for them. Everything here was pricey, after a couple oil changes they start to get real pushy with sales on things that don't necessarily need to be done. I Was told about a great lifetime warranty on tires but that I needed shock and struts, my friend who is a lifelong mechanic took a look and said there is no reason at all I would need to change then, it was a job that would have cost over $1,200. I don't trust them with "recommendations" that quickly turn into aggressive sales and the headache of getting simple oil changes, forget it, I'm done. After reading reviews on other places in the area I'm going to try Keith's Car Care, from the reviews it looks like they are not pushy, take care of their customers, and are not so difficult to work with. read more

HERE'S MY EXPERIENCE ON 04/07/2016. Called and said I was hearing a chugging in my engine, could they look at it? Bruce said "Yes, when did you want to bring it in? " I asked how long it would take, he said it would be better if I left it. I said, "Well if I wait for the assessment, how long. He said likely 90 minutes and that the next business day was wide open. I said, "let me call you back." After hanging up, I thought "Gee, I didn't ask if there was a fee to look at it!" Called back and asked. Bruce told me that unless I got lucky and they found a squirrel had gotten in the engine, they would have to hook up diagnostics and it would be $130.00 an hour for an evaluation! I hung up and called Pit Stop Garage a few miles down RT47. They asked me to bring in the vehicle in about an hour. Diagnosed it for free and fast! Internal alternator problem. No fee for the estimate. Said I could likely drive on it awhile if I couldn't affords the repair right away. What a relief! Called Merlin back to give feedback, just because I thought their approach might drive people away. Bruce answered. I said "Hi, a called earlier asking about engine noise. I went to a competitor after calling you and they charged me nothing for the estimate. It was not engine trouble. " They must have caller id that looks up past service customers because even though in both conversations, I had never given my name, Bruce said immediately, "Yeah, well you know what, we haven't seen you in here in 3 years! So I think I can eliminate your feedback as hostile," I said, "Well guess what Bruce, you're not going to see me for ANOTHER 3 YEARS! Thought I would call to let you know that your methods aren't very effective at winning customers." I also mentioned that the inflated prices they quoted were always followed with a statement saying that if I paid for the Merlin repair, I would drive my vehicle for 200,000 miles. I told him, that this may come as another news flash, but, I already have driven most cars I have owned for over 200K. It just about choosing a good vehicle and then regular and solid maintenance habits. That's where we left it. Make your own decision. They are so respectfull and everything untill something heppens and than you can see who they really are. They say they take full responsibility but they dont, they actully dont care, all they care is just making money and screw the costumers. I would of never thought that i would have a problem untill now. I would never ever go to the Merlin's after they made 2 dents on my dads car and they know they did it. No one lifted the car in past 1 1/2 year beside them and dents are fresh and i am 1000 % sure that they did it. They didnt lift the care properly and the car shifted thats how the dents were made. I had like 10 people that i send there to get an oil change and 3 of our car's but from now on i would never step in that door anymore and all those people that i send there would not get an oil change from Merlins.
