During a trip to Georgia, I had my vehicle serviced - needed an entire engine replaced for a cost of $10,000 and was assured that everything was working correctly. When I returned home to Ohio, my car engine began to smoke like within 3 days of a full engine warranted replacement! I took it to my local long-standing mechanic, Streamline Auto, and was charged $887.90 and was told the car engine had the following failures: * There was no antifreeze in the engine. * The cooling system was leaking under the intake manifold. * The oil cooler nipple was broken which caused the coolant leak. * A cylinder head gasket test was performed, and it failed. The test indicated there was damage to the cylinder heads, gaskets, block, or all of the above. * Further, there was an indication from my local mechanic that all the following repairs and defects were directly correlated to the faulty installation of the motor that was installed in their place of business. I tried to get them to pay the $887.90, they declined and STILL refused after getting a lawyer involved. My parents live in GA and have been going to themn for YEARS. First got my car ( A Citroen DS 21) serviced and repaired by Mike around 2002. Got his number from another Citroen owner. He did amazing work - a couple of years later I was in a crash - all safe - but a lot of front end damage to the car - he fixed it all - looked amazing - attention to detail, improvements, paint - better than ever. He is a Citroen collector / afficionado - but of course will work on other cars - fantastic service, fair prices, clear communication - he really believe in long term relationships - a lot of his customers - like me - measure their time with him in decades. Love bringing my cars here, from the first visit I had Express oil change right down the road told my wife we needed a new oil pan on our 2010 TSX, Jeremy and Jerry both explained how the process would work to diagnose and then repair our vehicle only to find out it wasn't even the oil pan and they repaired it for cheaper with an oil change and diagnostics included. I continue going back to Mike the Mechanic in Woodstock because I trust what they say. They are great for regular maintenance like everything from oil changes, tires, battery replacements, & brakes. But they are there for you with the big stuff too. They never pressure me into getting MORE work done than I come in for. They will let me know if they see something that really needs attention. This last time I took the car in for an oil change and they asked if I noticed leaking (I needed my CV joint replaced). I had seen a lot of leaking and totally forgot to ask them about it. I never write reviews.. however the experience I had taking my vehicle to Mike the Mechanic in Woodstock was so egregious, I feel compelled to warn other unsuspecting customers to beware. My VW CC Sport started acting up and was mis-firing on one of the pistons. Rough ride. This happened quickly, so I pulled into the nearest mechanic I could find.. Mike the Mechanic.. I was told it would be an hour for the Mechanic to do diagnostics.. after an hour, I was informed that 1) There was an oil leak in piton shaft 4, 2) The solution was labor intensive, and at $95 per hour, at least 8 hours would be necessary to get to the root cause, $950, 3) Parts could be in the vicinity of $300 to $400... 4) and... they could not know if the timing chain would need to be replaced, until after they already had the engine open... could be another $2,000, TBD upon getting 8 hours into the work... so I'm looking at a potential $3,350 cost... As a precaution, before moving forward, I contacted a VW Dealer Service station, and a local European car mechanic to obtain a reality check, before giving the ok to proceed... both were adamant that what I was being told made NO sense.... at that time I informed MTM that I wanted to bring the car to be serviced elsewhere. I was then informed I would be charged $95 for the privilege of their time... I gladly paid (a small price on the end). In the end, I took the car to the European vehicle specialist... needed new spark plugs, and a coil.. total $480... Crazy... almost a $3,000 difference. I feel as though MTM felt they had me between a rock and a hard place, and tried to take advantage of that... almost criminal.. my recommendation is that you should not use Mike The Mechanic for ANY business unless you want to be ripped off! The guys in the store were very quick in scheduling my car to be repaired. After we went over the problems with my car and I gave them the go ahead to perform the repairs, my car was ready the next day! The bonus was that they gave me a loaner car at no charge. That is difficult to find in most smaller repair companies. We know Mike he is a great, fair businessman and we will never take our cars anywhere else. Great mechanics here! They DON'T stand behind their repairs. Had used them repeatedly for over a year on some larger repairs on multiple cars in my family. Spent over $2k on installation of a new catalytic converter. The new exhaust manifold seal they installed failed the following day after 250mi of driving. My wife and daughters were 3/4 of the way to Orlando when engine lights came on and the car started sounding horrible. When my wife called me, I immediately called Mike the Mechanic and told them what had happened and that I couldn't leave my wife and kids stranded in Orlando w/o a car so they were going to take it into the Toyota dealership for repair in Orlando upon arrival there. I kept Mike the Mechanic up to date including providing all the contact info for the dealership doing the repair in Orlando. Toyota gave me the parts that had failed (including the newly installed exhaust manifold seal) along with all the receipts. When my wife returned from Orlando (after another $400 in labor and parts repair plus costs for a rental car while ours was being repaired PROPERLY this time), Mike the Mechanic would NOT offer any sort of warranty or even partial compensation on the bad parts or replacement labor. I provided them all the contacts (during the event while my wife and daughters were in Orlando) to the Toyota dealership to coordinate. They claim no one from Toyota would return their calls. So we were totally stuck unless I wanted to flatbed tow the car back to Woodstock and rent another car? (Would've cost me more than the $400 Toyota charged to repair it) I am surprised at how blatantly bad their willingness to provide any sort of compensation is when it was a clear cut issue of bad parts (or installation) that they completed. There is no argument from them that their work/parts were faulty, only that they didn't repair the fault themselves here in Woodstock (duh! The car was 470 mi away when the parts failed) After spending over $4k there over the past year on multiple car repairs in our househould, covering even a few $ on the labor to replace the part they installed was too much for them? It baffles the mind how a business owner can think that is a good business model.... MTM, I do appreciate the response below but you've incorrectly stated the facts. "you didn't check in with us". If you carefully read my statements you'll see I called and spoke with Jerry, BEFORE, during and after Toyota fixed what MTM screwed up! They key being BEFORE! This is not a case of me coming to MTM after the fact. I called BEFORE we even knew what the problem was and advised that we had to take the car into a shop in Florida due to the house and issues.... read more
