Moreover, there are some newer flavors such as pecan caramel, peanut butter, and mint chip. There is something for everyone. This Cambridge location is fairly new, but their baked goods are of the same high quality as the original location, but with slightly less inventory and without the obscenely long lines. The ricotta filling of the cannoli tastes plasticky at the ends, like it's been stored in plastic wrap. It tastes perfect once you get past the surface parts, but that does mean you can't get a non-plasticky bite with chocolate chips. Still, I have to get Mike's chocolate covered cannoli when I'm in the area for nostalgia reasons, and the chocolate ratio. The "rainbow layer" is much more cake-like than the usual rainbow cookie, so maybe that's why they call it a "rainbow layer" instead. I've had cannolis from Mike's before, and they're unbeatable. I love the variety they have - when I was having a sweet hankering after a Saloniki dinner in Harvard, with Mike's across the street, I figured where else would I go? I was surprised as to how quiet it was, given that Mike's is usually packed. We were greeted and served super quickly! I wasn't feeling a cannoli, so I decided to try the peanut butter brownie. It was delicious, the brownie very cake-like with a rich chocolate fudge, peanut butter frosting, and peanut butter chips. As delicious as it was, cake-like brownies aren't my favorite consistency (which is a personal preference) - but I'd still recommend it! It would have been out of this world had it been warmed up. On a recent trip to Cambridge I was excited to see Mike's. I've only ever gone to the North End location and have been overwhelmed by the crowds and not being able to see what they had for options. This is like a bizarro location. There wasn't anyone else in there, I could check out my options. They also offer espresso and coffee drinks. And they take credit cards! Had the black and white cookie, which was a delight. Instead of fondant it was an actual frosting, it was so good. My wife and I took two of my nephews, along with our 7 month old, to Boston last week to explore and eat. None of them had ever had cannoli so after walking by Mike's and seeing Mike's Pastry boxes on the T we decided to go in the evening when there weren't any lines. There was quite a line when we walked in, but the staff kept it moving quickly. There were a few employees working behind the counter, and I found the service to be great, even if they were busy. I liked that they had a big selection of cannoli fillings to choose from, as well as other pastries. All cannolis are made to order and the serving size is huge! I felt ridiculously full after eating one. I ordered the Pistachio and Limoncello flavors, and although I enjoyed them, they didn't live up to the hype. The shells themselves were perfection- crisp, crunchy, and fried beautifully. The filling was a different story. I could tell that they used quite a bit of cornstarch to make the filling thick, which inturn compromised the texture and flavor. I could taste the ricotta in the pistachio cannoli, but it wasn't as smooth as I would've hoped. I flew them home to my family in Florida the same day, and they maintained most of their crunch. My dad liked them, but my mom felt the same way as I did. A lot of people still enjoy this bakery quite a bit and it seems to be a Boston staple, so I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area. Came here with my girlfriend tonight for a quick sweet treat, and was pleasantly surprised! I am usually a Mike's connoisseur @ the North End, so I was thrilled to see a location in Harvard Square. This time, we geared away from our typical cannoli. My girlfriend and I split the peanut butter brownie and it was really good! The frosting on top was amazing, and the brownie was big enough for both of us for just $6. The spot for canollis. Came for a sugar fix and got it. The canollis are awesome. We got a full box to use the canollis like a birthday "cake", which worked well. Soft cream inside the canollis has the right amount of sweet, nicely made crisp shell, and variety of toppings. I had the pistachio and chocolate chip one but I don't think you can go wrong with the toppings. Overall, quality of the canollis are on point. The hype about their canollis is real. Only complaint really is lack of parking, which is always a frustration in this general area. Had to park many blocks away to get here. But I will come back for more canollis for sure.
