We ordered the crunchy dynamite roll, jalapeño madness and the crawfish roll and were not disappointed. We were a little shocked when the jalapeño madness came out because it was drenched in a bright green sauce. We were a little nervous. But it was a wasabi citrus sauce and was actually amazing. The jalapeño madness was our favorite roll- and a great choice for people who love spicy! The crunchy dynamite roll was also delicious. The crawfish was just ok. I don't really enjoy cold crawfish, but my husband loved it. The service was a little slow, but our waitress was so nice so it was ok. I gave it 4 stars because the restaurant's atmosphere was lacking and their bar selections were slim. It was overall a delicious experience! We will be back! Great food! Too bad the help doesn't qualify as great. I went in last week to pick up a to go order and the restaurant was busy. I couldn't make eye contact with anyone for help initially. I noticed a tall, bearded man against the back area. His arms were crossed across his chest. Our eyes met and I asked him if he could help me see which of the many to go bags and boxes was mine. He straight up ignored me. Gave me a shoulder shrug as of to say, "you're on your own, lady." Even if it was not his job, he was on a break, even if he wasn't clocked in, he could've said "I'm sorry, we'll get to you as soon as we can." Nothing! He is the reason for 3 stars. I've tried some basic sushi rolls here so you can't really mess up on that. I usually just get little things from here such as gyoza or seafood udon. I got the kimchi seafood udon one time and as happy as I was with the large serving size, it wasn't that great. It was extremely oily, very very spicy beyond the kimchi taste so it wasn't much for a favorite for me. My favorite for sure is the seafood udon with the soup. It's great for a cold day if you want something warm in your belly! The atmosphere inside is a bit small but quite cozy as well, the parking lot is a bit tricky and tight so watch out if you have a large car. This is definitely my go to sushi shop for after dinner cravings since they close later than other sushi places around the area! One thing that I love about Mikimoto is that they seem to be the only restaurant in town that acknowledges that New Orleans is not that big, and they're willing to drive more than a mile to deliver. The go-to place for sushi whenever I'm craving and in Mid-city. All the fish are fresh, and the complimentary noodle salad is my favorite! The best roll I had here is the Wholly Roll. Before people say it's kind of pricey, the roll pieces are pretty big and filling.. I could barely fit one whole piece in my mouth. The baked mussels is also pretty good. You know what? I was in the neighborhood running an errand, so I searched for the closest top-rated sushi, and found myself swinging by for pick-up at Mikimoto. The folks working there seemed nice, but to be frank, this might be the worst sushi I've ever had. I don't think the 3 pieces I swallowed before realizing it just wasn't worth it are going to make me sick, but there is nothing balanced, fresh, or bright about these flavors. And I've had mediocre suburban shrimp tempura too-much spicy mayo rolls and adjusted my expectations to at least enjoy them in a mac-and-cheese type of way. But I wouldn't even consider Mikimoto's fall-apart sushi edible. The spicy tuna looked like stewed sweet potato and tasted like tabasco. I ended up peeling the stiff sea bass off of the bayou roll and just eating the cucumber and seaweed salad inside. Tragic. read more

Mikimoto was always a staple of high school. They would deliver to the school, and were inexpensive, so us seniors, could order sushi for lunch and make the other students insanely jealous. The food is good. Not to die for, but good. You get a lot of food for the price. There is no fishy smell when you enter, showing that the fish are fresh. The service is a little spotty and the parking lot is a nightmare. When you park in the lot, you have to wait until the cars in the drive through move before you can get out. read more

I am going to anger my daughter with this review. She lives nearby and loves the place. My experience wasn't quite as good as hers. The owner/manager was overseeing the service carefully. He should have been overseeing the kitchen too, First, my daughter loves their cold noodle salad. She calls it a gratis app.I call it otoshi. When she ordered it, she was summarily told that it is only gratis with a $10 roll order. She was going to order the roll anyway, so all the exchange did was create needless irritation. Who ever heard of a tsukidashi that was dependent on buying something else? Considering that it is (wheat) vermicelli, mayo, a tiny bit of shaved slivers of carrot, and a wee bit of sesame oil, that seems more than just a little stingy and petty. I ordered negimaki as none of my favorite Atlanta restaurants serve it. It was large and flavorful, served on a sizzling platter. But it was a little tough. - not the meat, the onion! My daughter got baked green mussels. They were good. The negima and mussels were the redeeming part of the meal and bought it the second star. I ordered Chirashi. It was like the chef didn't care and just went through the motions. Just a plain white rice bowl with a bunch of random pieces of fish just thrown in. As Marcy D. noted the cutting was atrocious! Just like her photo the pieces were of odd sizes and more torn than cut. I think the chef desperately needs to sharpen his knife. Also, the taco (octopus) was tainted and tasted septic. I love octopus, but this is the first spoiled octopus I have ever had. Octopus is cooked, not raw. There is no excuse for that. Please do not eat here I have gotten food poisoning from the rice just last night. I ordered their shrimp tempura and veggie fried rice at 9:30 and woke up at 4 in the morning to throwing up followed by dehydration. When I called to complain and ask the manager for a solution he rudely told me that I am to never eat at their establishment again and that he would only give me my money back because it was the first time I have eaten there and they would no longer want my service. I received no apology, no senserity and I have just had a horrible experience. So horrible that I am reporting them to the better business bureau I am so appalled. I will never eat here again and I encourage you to read the other reviews that are here letting you know that you could be severely food poisoned at this establishment. Ordered delivery from Mikimoto. After about 40 minutes I received a call from the restaurant saying the driver was lost. The manager asked me to wait outside for the driver. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I called the restaurant back to ask where the driver was. Apparently he was on the wrong street. About 20 minutes after that my food arrived, but the tempura was ice cold. I called the restaurant to complain at which point I was transfered to the manager. When I asked if they would be willing to remedy the situation, she told me "they weren't supposed to deliver hot food" and even said "it was our mistake". They made no effort to fix the situation. Will not be ordering from Mikimoto again. TLDR- Driver got lost and poor customer service. read more

Best sushi I have tasted so far in NOLA although I have not yet tried them all. Ingredients are superbly fresh. The chef's creations are imaginative, fun, and extremely tasty. Even when full to capacity on a Friday evening, service was fast and very personable. They have a drive-through window, which seems to be very popular. The place is nothing fancy and a bit on the small side, but the prices are very reasonable; the quality and the value are sure to bring you back for a second visit. We left the restaurant with one thought floating across our completely-contented minds: "Yum! We love sushi!" We have tried Little Tokyo, and yeah, ok, the decor was a bit nicer, but the food was MUCH better here at Mikimoto. Try the Geaux Saints roll, the super spicy Dante roll, or the Yellowtail roll. read more
