There was a bit of misunderstanding when our order wasn't processed and we've been waiting for 30-40 mins good thing the Japanese lady was very kind and attentive to notice and she made sure ours will be expedited. She was so patient in accommodating our ridiculous order for two that was about 10 long plates of sushi + another meal which we got for takeout! Overall, the sushi was really good and authentic! We decided to venture out instead of ordering in and Mikko Sushi did not disappoint. Mikko sushi has been able to really pivot well during these times, from offering easy to order pick up or enjoying dinner at the restaurant. Tonight (Saturday) it was quite busy, they said a 30 minute wait but it went a lot quicker. We were seated outside in the back parking lot. Sounds weird but it wasn't at all, they set it up quite nicely during this current reality. We ordered oysters, sashimi, the beach roll and two spicy seafood salads. Everything was fresh, and did not disappoint. And hot saki and Sapporo. Customer service was amazing, staff was friendly and attentive. My hubby and I had takeout sushi from Mikko this week for our date night at home. It was our first time trying it so we just ordered rolls instead of nigiri. We're sushi nerds, so best to stay on the safe side the first time. We ordered about five rolls, all of them were amazing and I was really impressed! the fish was very fresh and the rolls were not only really flavorful and interesting but with pretty presentation. We will definitely be back, maybe trying outdoor seating on a less busy day. I picked up our sushi on Friday night and it was pretty crowded. First let me say; the food was incredible as always. This is my favorite sushi spot in town and the quality and speed of food never disappoints. This review is strictly on the horrible service we received today (Monday) around 2 pm. I'll start by saying, I'm a server at a very very busy restaurant here in Escondido so I'm usually soooo forgiving with service. But this experience left me with the feeling I needed to address it in a review in hopes management does some training with this employee. Being it was a Monday after the lunch rush hour, it was a super slow when we came. The host kindly sat us. Several minutes later, a girl dropped off water and dishes for us, without ever speaking a work. Turns out this was our server. She never introduced herself, never gave an inkling of a smile, never communicated with us other than to drop off the check. She also didn't check on us a single time- literally not once besides to drop the water and utensils and the check. This honestly sucked because unfortunately we planned to order another round of drinks and were missing an item. After the check was dropped me just tapped out and asked for the missing item to be removed. We left with a bad feeling and bad experience about it this place. She didn't even acknowledge as we got up to leave right in front of her after closing out. *Reemphasizing that the food was amazing as always. The only other redeeming quality besides the food was the pink haired server in the next section's friendly demeanor and kindness towards us. Our server needs a lesson in basic customer service skills so she doesn't devalue this restaurant and customers' experiences. read more

Normally this is my go to for sushi..sadly not today.. the booth open was in back of a child and next to a large group with a crying baby. Nothing against either of these families I just didn't want to experience this commotion while I'm having lunch .. which I normally spend $60 dollars on. During Covid both started to go downhill so we stopped going in 2021. Last night we gave them 1 last chance and it didn't work out. All 3 of our rolls were sloppily put together, didn't taste fresh and were smaller. The edamame was still very good but that's where it ended. My husband either got the wrong beer or something was wrong with it. My wine was fine but nothing special. Our server was sweet but very scattered. I will say the service was better than last year. Food was good as always. The only issue was the service. Our server took our order and disappeared. No refills on drinks. No check. We couldn't even find her to flag her down. I get that it gets busy but, managing your tables is part of the job. Take an order from one table. Then make a lap around. Then place order. Scan your tables. Then repeat.
