    Wedding Favor: Mikolich Family Honey
    ShëRrï W.

I have purchased honey from Mikolich Family Honey for about 11 years -- my first purchase was at the Little Italy Farmer's Market. I've even ordered the baby bears as Christmas Stocking Stuffers--family always enjoyed. We have since moved to Mississippi but when my daughter asked me to help with wedding favors I reached out to them to ask if they would be able to accommodate us with 150 2oz glass jars with wooden dippers. Erika stepped up immediately and said yes! It was a rush order and they delivered! The jars were packed exceptionally well, boxed then boxed again in two shipments. We couldn't have been more pleased. No leakage or breakage. Each jar had a personalized label affixed to the shiny gold lid. Cute, cute, cute! Thank you Erika and Mary Mikolich! You really offer the best customer service and I cannot thank you enough. We had a little piece of California at my now a Texas girl's wedding.

I ran into this Honey vendor at the Little Italy Mercado. I am a fan of organic honey made from of a variety of sources. I was particularly interested in the Wild Buckwheat Honey, a flavor I have never had, and let me tell you, it was delicious and offered a great luscious texture. They also offer a orange blossom honey, sage blossom, and local wild flower. You can purchase individual size bottles in multiple sizes or you can purchase variety packs to experience all the flavors. If you are not sure what you want, they offer tasters which I thought was very cool. In addition to the local Farmer's Markets, you can also find their honey at local retails stores. Most notely, Krisp Natural Foods, The Cheese Store of San Diego, Swell Coffee Co., Olive Baking Co., and a number of others places which you can see on their website. They also put together gift packages for that perfect gift for those honey lovers. The young lady running the stand was very nice and quite knowledgeable regarding their products.

By far the best honey in San Diego! My wife and I always have multiple varieties in our cabinet and use it daily! We buy Mikolich at the PB farmers market and the Little Italy market. During covid shutdowns, they even shipped it directly to us! As we planned our wedding for New Hampshire, we knew we wanted to share this amazing honey and San Diego staple with family and friends. Erika was so helpful and accommodating and set us up with adorable little honey bears in all of our favorite flavors. They were a huge hit! Thank you! photos by Amanda Rai Photography

Organic and locally sourced Mikolich Honey

Great family-owned business. I have been getting organic locally harvested honey from this merchant at the Little Italy farmers market for years. However, with the social distancing in place for the COVID-19, and the cancellation of all farmers markets until the threat is over, getting out for supplies, and keeping healthy with raw honey sourced from a reputable beekeeper has been tough. So I was so happy to learn today that Mikolich Honey actually makes deliveries if like me you are also avoiding the crowds and staying home for the time being. So I have these gigantic bottles of organic raw honey now along with beeswax candles to last me way past the time when the shelter in place mandate will have subsided which hopefully is in the next month or so. Stay focused. We'll get through this together. Use Venmo to pay @MFHoney.

    Best honey ever!

So get there early. Service is great, they don't rush you at all. All of the pastries are laid out for whatever you want them to grab. I also got an iced vanilla latte and it was DELICIOUS - very bold and strong! I would definitely visit again.

When I saw one that worked with my schedule, I clicked in to see what they had to offer. Prices are quite high, $7-9 per pastry on average, and they had a good mix of sweet and savory, classic and unique flavors. I ordered three pastries: charcuterie danish, Kenyan chicken stew croissant, and lamb rillette spiral croissant. There was a fast turnaround for pickup, as I could only select dates from the next day. Their kitchen is located in a more commercial part of Mira Mesa, and parking was easy. When I walked in, I was a bit confused by the setup, as I stepped straight into a room full of baking supplies. I located the cabinet with pickups and grabbed my goodies. Very quick in and out. Overall, the pastry dough itself was fantastic across all three pastries. I air fried my pastries to warm them up before sampling them. My least favorite was the charcuterie pastry. The cured meat on top was very tough, possibly from being over-baked. I didn't really like how it paired with the apricot on top. Additionally, the top layer of the pastry was adhered to the toppings, and came off when I tried to cut or bite into it. The cheese rosette on top was cute but didn't add much to the flavor for me. The Kenyan chicken stew and lamb croissants were absolutely stunning. Both were not soggy and suuuuper flavorful. The ground lamb was tender and buttery, Since it is rolled throughout the croissant, you get some in each bite, the distribution is perfect. The Kenyan chicken stew is bold and spiced. There is a good amount of stew in the croissant cup, and the chicken was not tough. Paired with the buttery pastry, this was incredible. Overall, I enjoyed the pastries I ordered at Relic! They are incredibly pricy, and definitely an occasional treat, but worth it in my opinion.

Very cute inside, with some Strawberry Shortcake theme decor. Unfortunately first impression with the service was not very good. The person seemed very unenthusiastic, didn't smile, or seem welcoming. It's possible we just went on and off day. Since we were there I did get some of the mini cupcakes to try. One was a Snickers chocolate cupcake and the other was a Strawberry Shortcake cupcake. They both tasted good, but nothing really spectacular that I would have to go back for. The Snickers one tasted basically like a regular chocolate cupcake with a miniature sneaker placed on top. The Strawberry Shortcake one had some type of strawberry crumble on top which was good. I would say that was my favorite of the two. If you come on Tuesday they are $2 for the cupcakes, so something to keep in mind. They have a variety of other desserts and even drinks as well. They have caramel apples, Sundays, different cakes, Etc. If you're already in the mall it might be worth the quick peek to see if anything appeals to you. If anything just for a few cute photo ops.

Today was finally the day, and it was exactly what I hoped it would be! This "shop" is an enclosure in front of Macy's on the first floor of the mall. It was only moderately crowded today, but it's a small space and I could see things being crazy tomorrow. They supposedly offer thirty types of cheese, and I didn't count, but there didn't seem to be that many. In fact, I saw very few hard cheeses. But for everything they had, they were offering samples. How can anyone resist? There were some old standbys like Brie, but plenty I'd never tasted before, and I fell in love with the creamy Saint Agur. Despite the "Cheeses of Europe" name, they seem to be focused on French cheeses. They also had some drinks (not selling those, though) and butters to sample on bread, including a sea salt version with distinct, salty crystals. My friend just came back from Paris gushing about this butter style, so I was delighted to try it for myself. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, with most working out to around a dollar an ounce. It's more than I would typically pay for grocery store cheese, but far less than from a specialty store like Venissimo. Everything is pre-sliced and packaged, which will give true gourmands pause, but I'm not enough of a snob to be bothered. Purchases come with a little pamphlet of cheese recipes and information about cheese types. Credit cards are accepted. If you fall in love with any of the cheeses, they sell them at a number of Whole Foods stores in the LA area, but not in San Diego. So come while you can!
