I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were on an off day or maybe we just came in close to closing and they were tired. I have come here twice and the first time I had a nice pleasant time. People were rushing around the small old school diner and getting us drinks and food. However, on this occasion my friends and I came here for a friend's bday brunch and wanted to get food and mimosas. There were 10 of us and they ended up splitting us up into 2 separate tables close to each other. Honestly, that wasn't a problem. We didn't mind it. What started on our nerves was that half of our group got menus and the other half didn't (my table did not get menus). Then we waited around for a server to come to us, which they didn't. We had to flag someone down and when they came to the table they seemed pretty annoyed. They also only took the order of the table with menus and totally skipped us. Then we finally had to flag down another server just to get menus and order. We ended up ordering mimosas for all of us. I also ordered the chicken fried steak which is my favorite. I just love me some chicken fried steak. When we finally got our mimosas, one of my friends and I found a hair in both of our mimosas. Gross! We told the server and she apologized and got us another one. Then our food finally came out, which took quite a while, but I understand because we had a big group. I loved the chicken fried steak! Once we were seated in a booth, our waitress came by and since we were waiting, we had time to look at the menu and knew what we wanted. I went to this place around the end of April. A couple of friends suggested it so we all went together. It was my first time there and it was my other friend's first time there too. We were a party of four. The place is small and it felt smaller because we were like in a corner by a fridge where there are beverages. There are times where we are a party of 6-10 people. I don't think that would work at this place. I think they had one booth that might fit six, but it would be kind of tight. But this place is good for 2-4 people. . I think the place is definitely good for breakfast. My friends love the Belgium waffle there. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was pretty good. The owner waited on us. She was very friendly plus she recognized my friends who have been going there since before she was the owner. I also like the name, I think it's a clever name . I wish I had found this place before we moved. There are so many places to have breakfast in the area, so it's hard to spread the time (and money) around. It's incredibly difficult to find via Apple Maps but it's across the street from the gas station and quite nondescript. Look for the strip mall and the sign that merely says "RESTAURANT." You pull up and you see a line of people outside and a bustling inside. We stepped in around 11 a.m. and rather than wait 30-40 minutes, we sat up at the bar just as 2 people were leaving. You don't know the meaning of busy till you sit front and center watching 8 people move around, dispense juice, powder waffles, butter bread, shout orders and frantically search for random odds and ends. I love sitting at the counter in front of the pick up window 'cause it shows me what to eat. I couldn't decide what to do and leveled with the counter service-I wanted a deep fried chicken from the lunch menu with one waffle from the breakfast menu. Luckily, they made such a thing but it was an off-menu item. Hallelujah! I was warned that it'd taken about 20 minutes though. As I watched chicken/waffle after chicken/waffle sit up on the window, my stomach pangs got more and more intense. Finally, it was my turn and oh boy was it worth the wait! These people don't mess around. A large chicken breast, wing, and thigh sat atop a huge Belgian waffle covered with honey served on a large dinner plate was definitely worth the 30 minutes. There was a satisfying crunch to the perfectly seasoned chicken. It wasn't excessively fatty at all and was large enough to accompany each bite of waffle. The front of the house seems to lack solid leadership. The hostess, who I think is the owner, seems to be out of her element. She's not very accommodating, and she was slow to acknowledge us; plus, there's hardly any room to wait despite the constant lines outside. We were told the wait for two would be 15-20 minutes, but the actual wait time was 40 minutes, which to me, showed her inexperience or just annoyed me that we had to wait twice as long as expected. We finally got our seats but waited another 10 minutes for our server to take our order. The servers seem very busy, but they only do one thing per round, so they take an order and put in the order, which slows down the whole flow. Also the expeditor or server messed up since I got my food and we had to wait another 5 minutes for my friend's food. The actual food is fairly decent. I got the Chicken Fried Steaks with scrambled eggs, toast, and a pancake (instead of hash browns) along with an 18oz mimosa. They're fairly flexible with substitutions, so that was a plus. The steak was decent--pounded tender and nicely seasoned breading, but the gravy was on point. It was comforting, hearty, and delicious enough to eat on its own. I think there were bits of bacon or ham mixed in with the gravy to add bits of extra flavor and texture--very much appreciated. Everything else was decent but nothing noteworthy--just great diner, comfort food. The mimosas were a great touch. $5 for 18oz of what tastes like college all over again--lots of cheap champagne mixed with some OJ. Would recommend drinking out of the mason jar itself instead of the straw; not sure why, but it tastes a lot better that way. We tried this place while on family vacation. We found reviews online and decided to try it. We were very impressed. The only thing that disappointed were the pancakes. Not because they were bad but because it wasn't anything stand out. We also ordered steak and eggs, and chicken fried steak. Both were absolutely delicious. Service was a little slow. You could tell the kitchen was running behind. But unlike some of my past experiences, they handled the situation very well. They apologized and brought us all a slice of watermelons while waiting. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of Mil's. I remember coming here one other time, but I don't recall how my food was. This time around I ordered a veggie scramble with hashbrowns. The food was okay - I'm not sure what was off, but it just wasn't tasty. We also got the gyro - which wasn't too impressive either. I think both items lacked flavor. On a cold day I highly recommend sitting as far far away from the door. we were in the middle of the restaurant in a booth and it was freezing. Every time someone opened the door a cold breeze came in and it wasn't very pleasant. I think I spent most of my time their shivering from the cold vs enjoying my breakfast. My buddy and I decided to give Mil's Diner a try for breakfast, because we wanted to try something different we haven't tried before. When we arrived, the place was full, and there were 3 parties ahead of us. As we waited for our seats, I looked around and chatted with the store owner. She told me this place has been here for over 45 years and has since switched owners 3 times. She has owned it the past 15 years. Looking behind the checkout counter, I can see Mil's Diner has won the BEST OF MILPITAS award the past 6 years (2008 through 2013). WIthin a few minutes of waiting, we were seated at the booth by the entrance door. First thing we noticed? The booth seats didn't feel comfortable. It felt like these seats were the original ones from 45 years ago. The springs/cusion are non existent. The waitress brought us 2 glass of water as we placed our order. I asked for some slices of lemons and ordered a bagel with cream cheese and a side of fruits. My buddy ordered a custom omelete, side of fruit, and wheat toast. It took about 42 minutes before our orders arrived. Fast forward. Food arrived. It was exeptionally tasty, especially the omelete my buddy ordered. The bagel I ordered was toasted perfectly, not burnt. On the table was a selection of 4 flavors of Smucker's jelly in plastic containers-GRAPE, STRAWBERRY, ORANGE, AND MIXED FRUIT. Fruit bowl contained a nice variety of fruits - watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, and strawberry, and oragnes. Overall, I give this place a THREE stars. I haven't sat on the other booths/chairs at this place, but the one my buddy and I sat on was the most uncomfortable of booths we've ever experienced. Would have been nice if our food came out a bit sooner. A 42 minute wait is pretty excessive consider what we ordered. This is my new favorite brunch place! We came here at 11:30am on a Sunday, which, in retrospect, was probably a terrible decision. The line was totally out the door. But, we were seated within ten minutes! No joke - I checked my phone and it said 11:40am on the dot when we sat down. Grant it, we only had two people, but that's still pretty impressive. Go for the Mimosa - 18oz for only $4.95 is a great deal. But make sure to wait for your food to arrive before you start drinking! If you're here on a weekend, keep an eye out for the Weekend Specials menu. They gave us a regular menu and we accidentally missed the Weekend Specials, which were on one of those card-holder things on the table. Luckily, our waitress was super gracious in allowing us to re-order. I tried the Make Your Own Omelette (weekend special) with Italian sausage, avocado, spinach, and feta. $10.45 seemed a little more on the expensive side until I saw the thing. BIGGEST OMELETTE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. Worth the $10.45 and then some. Add on the fact that I got toast and pancakes on the side, and I was about ready to roll out of the restaurant.
