Veggie scramble with a side of corned beef hash (fresh veggies cooked perfectly, not soggy, with a touch of scrambled eggs and cheese) - always starts our weekend in a great mood! Staff has also changed since we were last there - new staff is just as nice and friendly. They have also remodeled ... updated and nice :) Indoor and patio seating only - no outdoor. There is a small parking lot and street parking available so I suggest you give it a try. Would I go back? We stopped by for lunch. My experience with Bills at different locations has been hit or miss. Today's visit was a hit. The hostess seating us quickly. Our waitress was friendly,not acting rushed or like it was a problem to take our order. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, considering it was crowded. A local favorite that perhaps has Greek origins. We have been coming here (usually for breakfast) for over 10 years now. This time it was around noon, so my wife had the mini version of the Mexicano omelette, and I had the American burger with a grilled jalapeño on the side in addition to the french fries and avgolemono soup. My cup of soup came first and I enjoyed it. It was creamy and had chicken breast and rice in it along with a nice lemony tang. My wife enjoyed her omelette, even eating her hashbrowns, which I was surprised to see. Usually, she leaves them for me. She must've been hungry! The hamburger is a half pound of ground Angus beef before cooking and comes with lettuce and tomato and in my case cheddar cheese instead of American. That grilled jalapeño was an extra charge, but that was fine. It came on the side (as does a good dill pickle) and I took occasional bites from it to enjoy the heat On a Saturday as you might expect there was a bit of a weight but not more than 10 or 12 minutes I would say. Their own parking lot can fill quickly, but they have additional spaces available in the parking lot immediately adjacent, but be sure to follow the markings on the sign that indicate where you can park for their restaurant. I remember Bill's Cafe being the place to go for breakfast and for brunch. This was well before the rapid expansions, I'm talking about almost 15 years ago. Now? Well, now it just feels like Bill's Cafe is another Denny's. The food is honestly pretty average to sub-par. With all of these other breakfast/ brunch spots, Bill's Cafe really has fallen by the way side. My wife and 3-year old visited before a museum weekend and I was surprised how disappointing our visit was. I ordered the Hawaiian Pancake, which was banana and macadamia nut and coconut shreds pancake. This did not work. The coconut shreds just doesn't mix well with the banana or macadamia nut. Further, the saltiness of the pancake batter was too overbearing. My wife ordered the original Eggs Benedict. That was fairly good. The hash was very good. We ordered a kids waffle for our 3-year old. We added eggs (for +$2). It was like 1 egg. Not worth the price. Coffee mugs were stained. Service was fine. Parking is limited in the small lot. We were in San jose on a Saturday morning before going to a Galaxy Con at the convention center downtown. This particular Bill's Cafe was a 10 minute drive away. We were seated right away and offered coffee promptly. The guava juice is so good and both of our breakfasts were hearty and well cooked. Tri tip Benedict was perfectly cooked, poached eggs nice and runny, steak was a good temperature. Chicken fried steak was oh-em-geeeee good. Thin crispy batter, good gravy, and comes with eggs and either potatoes or Hashbrowns. Country potatoes were amazing and love the onions in them. This is definitely a fancier looking Bill's compared to some of the others that look more old hole in the wall style, but don't let the fancy decor fool you, this is just good old fashioned food. read more

I personally wished it included carrots and celery, but that is just my preference. The roast beef sandwich was dry and not something I would order again. The pancakes were really good. Fluffy and exactly what you want from a classic pancake. The chocolate chip pancakes could use a few more chocolate chips, but overall they were still soft and satisfying. The omelette was cooked exactly how I requested, dry on the inside, and the portion was generous. The hash browns were perfectly crispy on the outside without being burnt. Great brunch spot ! My family and I came here on a Sunday morning in which we originally reserved for 7 people, more family kept coming and I kept adding more people. They accommodated our 13 people reservation and our wait time was no more than 10-15 minutes! I definitely couldn't finish it on my own and the plate was shared. I also upgraded from toast to a Hawaiian pancake for just 2.75 more and the pancake was everything and more. With bananas, coconut and macadamia nuts I hit the sweet spot. What was surprising to me however, was how many healthy options were on the menu! From fitness omelettes and veggie skillets topped with egg whites being healthy while eating out with family is more attainable. I don't like the crab cakes as much cause it is more like a deep fried bread with fake crab meat . The cost was only $18 so I should not expect much . Some restaurants that use real crab meats will charge you over $30 for the crab meat egg Benedict. My other friend got the Tri tip egg Benedict for $20 . The table behind us has two orders of the Bill's egg and steak . The size of the trip tip steak was impressive and it was charcoal boiled to perfection , medium rare in the middle . It felt like it had so much potential - my friend recommended it, its an institution, the food looks really really good and they give you a ton of it, it was busy, etc. But the food just, well, missed. Came here the day after watching Messi play last week. I got the corned beef hash eggs Benedict and my husband got a scramble/skillet. Husband's food was super cold despite coming out really fast. The cheese was also not even melted. We were confused - either they gave him an extra they had already made or they have some of the scramble/potatoes premade. He has also never complains about anything, that's how I know it was super mediocre. My eggs benedict was fine. The hollandaise was just OK in terms of flavor. Everything else was pretty bland, and my eggs weren't runny which, imo, pretty much ruins the dish. The best part about my meal was the hashbrowns for sure. Smoked Salmon Benedict: only thing I've ever had I didn't like. Breakfast come with choice of hash browns, home fries, or fruit. Home fries. Coffee is mid but not bad. Each benedict/omelette dish came with roasted potatoes or hash browns. The crab cake was deep fried, which was a bit disappointing for me, but it tasted not too bad. The hash brown was crispy and nicely seasoned. The meat lover omelette was truly for meat lovers - it was full of sausage, bacon, and cheese. The flavors blended well with each other. Service was a bit disorganized though. A waitress came to take orders after we already placed the order. The diner everyone goes to at least once if you're a student at SCU or from around the SC county. It's beloved and long standing for good reason. I think their food is amazing, not too salty good flavor and has a variety of portions which is appreciated. Got the Mini Pancakes w Bacon and Meat Lover Omelette with Hash Browns. Those pancakes came out fluffy and not so mini!! It was a great surprise and honestly appreciated because I felt like these days I got so used to see food being skimped out on. Yadira was our server and she was incredible--warm, attentive, and genuinely kind in that effortless way that makes you feel like you're in good hands from the moment you sit down. The service here has always been great, but she really stood out. The Bloody Mary was perfection: bold, spicy, and exactly the kind of "reset button" I was hoping for. And the tortilla soup? Absolutely phenomenal. Rich, soothing, and deeply satisfying--one of those dishes that makes you pause mid-bite because it's just that good. I came in excited for the Monte Cristo I've loved here for years, the one I've recommended to friends like it's a sacred personal discovery.
