So a friend told me about this cafe at the Hesperia Airport. I said, "Hesperia has an airport?" Thanks to yelp I found The Mile High Cafe and the reviews were all pretty good. First good sign was there was a little bit of a wait. Draw back to that is the service suffers a lot, but the servers are friendly. A little more about the service, I hope they're just understaffed because someone called in sick, otherwise the service hurts the good things about this place. I think we saw our server a total of four times and we waited fifteen minutes to get the check. The manager was the one that had to bring it just so I can pay. The food was good, but I've definitely had better. We ordered chicken fried steak and eggs and Rib eye steak and eggs. The flavor of the food was good, but I like my chicken fried steak crispy and this was not close. I ordered my rib eye medium rare and it came out medium well. The biscuits and gravy was really good. Nice thick biscuit and really well flavored gravy. The biggest plus about this place which I would give a five for is the portion size. Definitely a good size meal. With all that said, I would have to give them a total of Three stars because service is key to running an excellent restaurant. People will accept average food for top notch service. Sorry Mile High Cafe because I don't think I'll be making a trip back. read more

This is a good place for breakfast. I ordered a omelette which was good but not great. It was small for the price and just tasted okay nothing special. The home fries were bland, unseasoned and not browned. They charge extra for peppers and onions in your home fries if you would like that added, I had them and the outcome was still bland. I also had biscuits and gravy instead of toast, and the gravy is delicious!!! Next time I will only order biscuits and gravy they were the best! I love this place. The food is so good and the service is quick. The only downside is a few of their waitresses seem like they are not happy to be there. Last time I was there, they allowed a lady to go to each table and interrupt everyone's meals to get them to sign a political petition and when she came to our table and we said we would not like to sign it and that we don't get into politics much, she said "well you should" then proceeded to go to another table and talk badly about us to them and point at us. Our first visit to the new location of the Mile High Cafe. While the location is not as convenient for us, the new facilities and great service more than make up for it. Michele, the owner and hostess and her staff were exceptional. The food was even better than it was at the old location. That probably has something to do with their new and modern kitchen, which is much bigger than it had been at the old location at the airport. We ordered the Mad Dog omelette and the strawberry and whipped cream waffle. Both were excellent! I apologize for not posting pictures as I usually do, but we were so hungry, we just forgot. If you're looking for a great place for breakfast or lunch, give them a shot. I'll miss the airplanes, but you can't eat them. There's another place that opened up at their old place at the airport, but you'd have better luck trying to eat an airplane. See my review, and you'll understand. One of my favorite breakfast places! I love how cozy it is and everyone is so nice. I was introduced to here by the actual builder of the foundation and I'm so glad to have stopped by. Whenever I'm not too busy I love to stop by for breakfast and get one of my favorite dishes from here. Their chili is the bomb!! I'm so critical on chili and so picky when it comes to chili but they are spot on with all the flavors. It's not too spicy which I like and goes so good on one of their omelettes. Their county fried steak and eggs is one of the biggest portions I've ever seen and the gravy is so so so delicious and creamy. Their home fries are on point as well. But I think my favorite here is the hot chocolate. Now hear me out, other places have that watered down hot chocolate but this one is so rich and not too sweet, it hits the spot. All in all this place is amazing and I always come by, eventually I will try the whole menu! read more

MILE HIGH CAFE, AT THE HESPERIA, CA, AIRPORT ... A GEM! OK, so last Saturday (6/22/13) several pilots from my EAA chapter flew from Las Vegas to Hesperia, CA, for the proverbial "$100 Omelet." The optimistically named Mile High Café (the airport is only 3400' MSL) turned out to be a fine experience. Sure, it's on a rundown airport, but the new airport manager, Bill Jensen, is doing a fine job of sprucing the place up after many years of neglect at the hands of the previous "manager." Sure it's in an older building, but who needs another glistening cookie cutter IHOP. This place exudes history, and shows off some of its aviation heritage on the walls. The place was getting busy when we arrived and were ushered into a side room where all of our group could sit around one long table. By the time we left, the place was nearly packed to capacity. HINT: go early for the best seats along the window overlooking the parking ramp and runway. The staff assisting owner/manager Michele Lyell did a fine job of handling our fifteen people (who arrived at staggered intervals in six different aircraft) who all ordered different things, and who all needed separate checks. No problem, said our server, Lisa, who handled the chaos with aplumb. The water, coffee and soft drinks were kept topped off as our food was being prepared. Food started arriving on heaping plates, and within 3-4 minutes all of us had everything we had ordered. Many struggled to finish everything, and so there were a few Styrofoam boxes carted out of there. Their motto there is, "Where the food is piled high." No lie, the portions are huge, and the "down home" cooking will take you back to Grandma's kitchen. Give this place a try, but bring a big appetite when you do. This seemed like the place to go for a family breakfast but there was quite a delay The service just to order drinks took about 20 minutes and when we were ordering drinks we were going to order out food as well but the waiters said "oh no I can't put in orders right now" when we were finally able to put our orders in the food took like an hour oh and did I mention the waitress was a bit rude...and the food wasn't worth the wait. We had an excellent breakfast / lunch at this cafe. It's in an offbeat location, you are basically in a residential neighborhood. However once we arrived we had to spend a few minutes taking in the amazing views from the parking lot! We enjoyed everything we ordered, waffles, sandwich, home fries, and chili.
