We came in yesterday for breakfast and had to come back in today because our experience was so pleasant and the food was great. We got seated close to the chimney/woodstove and that was a treat. I had the Milehigh Corned Beef and the meat was so soft and delicious. My wife had the Huevos Rancheros and she enjoyed them. The plates the kids ordered were very really great also especially the Banana Buckwheat Pancakes. Staff was prompt and attentive and it was an overall very nice experience. I feel bad complaining because hey it's a little mountain town family restaurant with friendly service, but we gave this place a try after skipping it for a few years on our visits to Idy, and the dolsot bimbimbop was so disappointing because it's the most expensive thing on the menu. The shiitaki mushrooms were dried right out of the packet. The chef didn't even know you are supposed to rehydrate them, so they were inedible. The beef was strangely bland and there wasn't much of it. It also seemed like the veggies were totally raw, not even steamed. It was hard to enjoy but I tried because I was hungry. The rice seemed like good quality, though; hopefully it's not GMO. The homemade chili sauce was OK - very watery compared to others I've had. My husband liked his omelet. read more

The service was really good and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. If you want a coffee, I suggest checking out the cafe connected/next door because they have a lot of options & milk alternatives (necessary if you are driving 2 hours home). eating out's often been a strange experience during the pandemic, but while we're slogging thru the process of setting up our getaway cabin quite necessary if we don't want to go all Donner Party and NOT in that naked, spanky kind of way. i appreciate the gracious, attentive folks at Mile High Cafe who made things a little less weird. i had their JALAPENO BURGER (fat, juicy burger, jalapenos, cilantro, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeno aioli on a brioche bun) with extra crispy fries. the Jodster, aka Jodi Valentine T, ordered the BACON AVOCADO burger (fat, juicy burger, bacon, avocado, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion on a brioche bun) and subbed onion rings. both were pretty darn tasty burgers. mine had a pleasantly surprising heat signature. fries and rings were both on the small side (pretty sure they're freezer to fryer and we got the bottom of both bags) but still guilty pleasures. speaking of which, we gotta get back to setting up the cabin, stoke the fire in the fireplace, have a glass or two of the exceptional Napa Cab from the cellar, and throw our own Donner Party in that naked, spanky kind of way. read more

We decided to be adventurous and walk this restaurant with 3 kiddos. It was an 8 minute walk for a .4 mile distance from where we were staying. The only one rule was each kiddo must hold hands with an adult. The walk was pleasant and everyone followed the rules. Once we got there it happened to be at the busiest hour for lunch time. We got very lucky to get seated in 10 minutes when the original anticipated wait time was supposed to be 40 minutes. A few people on the waiting list was a no show by their turn so we got seated much quicker. We just sat in 2 separate tables next to each other than trying to sit in one. The food was delightful. I appreciated the fact that they offered the typical brunch menu with a Korean flare option. So we did a little bit of both. We got chicken tenders, Mickey Mouse pancakes for the kids, and another level of Korean dishes who ever fancied. So we couldn't resist getting their Bibimpop, Chicken Katsu Curry, and their Bulgogi dishes. The service was amazing. It did take a bit longer to get our food but I know it was due to the 4th of July weekend crowd at lunch time. read more

Ok so we stopped Mile High Cafe for breakfast before we took a walk around town and it was the best decision made. We were seated pretty quickly and the waitress was very attentive. We ordered the waffle tray and let me tell you the waffles were amazing, very light and fluffy and the bacon was cooked to perfection. Overall great food and good service. Came here for breakfast with my spouse on a visit from LA for our anniversary. We shared the mushroom spinach omelet w/ home fries (nicely crisp on the outside) and I had the Korean pancake (gluten free). I also ended up ordering the gluten free buckwheat banana pancakes as well- so good! Everything tasted fresh and delicious and the service was outstanding. I've been coming up to Pine Cove for 4-5 years to rest and relax in my mountain getaway. My good friend invited me out for breakfast and suggested this restaurant. Since I had never tired it before I said YES !! Especially since she was treating me. So we sat at the bar ( there were no open tables). Our server was Erin he was super cool and attentive to our needs. Let me say this first every restaurant up on the hill is more expensive than Temecula or Menifee ( down the hill ) Even a pizza will set you back $26.00. The eggs Benedict sounded good at $16.00 so I ordered it. My friend had an omelette ( she could not eat mote than 1/2 of it ). I was served quickly and my 3 egg with red potatoes, was not too hot so I dug in. The potatoes are par boiled then deep fried then lastly heated on the grille before serving them. They are the best I have ever had. The eggs were cooked perfectly and just enough spouted greens flowers and delicious hollandaise sauce topping. I recommend you try this establishment soon I heard that their pastrami and Ruben sandwiches are also fantastic!!! Ok next visit will be soon for lunch, I don't mind paying higher prices IF the food is excellent and service is good. read more

Food was okay. Service was mediocre. The cleanliness was another story. The table when we walked up smelled like it had been wiped with an old rag soaked in old bleach/sanitizing water. We asked for the table to be wiped again and it still smelled but, we just tried to ignore it as much as we could til we forgot about it. I was served OLD lemons with my tea. Sent those back. The server said the coffee here is brewed "every 20 minutes" which I know is a lie because that is too expensive for a restaurant's food costs. The coffee was stale and tasted like tap water. It wasn't until the end of our meal that we realized there was foreign debris floating in our water bottle that they serve with the table. At this point, we all lost our appetite. We spoke to the waitress and her attitude was terrible. We could tell she was embarrassed but I've been a server, FOH staff, BOH staff and a key manager in the past and you are supposed to use DISCERNMENT when you are in the restaurant business. The server also chased me, my boyfriend and his daughter outside saying "I didn't run the card" not even paying attention to the fact that my boyfriend's mother was still inside waiting to pay. She also spoke to the owner directly and could tell that there is no communication amongst restaurant staff and a total lack of attention to detail. As a culinary school graduate, this is honestly one of the worst experiences I've had during a food outing. This restaurant should be on Kitchen Nightmares. read more

Was staying in Idyllwild for the weekend and coming from OC... we were so happy to find a spot with Asian food! We got the Asian chicken salad, monte cristo and bibimbap. Kind of pricey but considering where we were and the limited food options, it was justifiable. Staff was very welcoming and kind. Food came out fast and everything was delicious and came in generous portions. After a 4 mile hike, the bibimbap really hit the spot. It came out sizzling and continued to sizzle and stay hot as I ate. Freshly squeezed orange juice comes with a $6.50 price tag. Pricey but I love my fresh OJ. My bf loves monte cristo and has to order it every single time he sees it on the menu. He said it was one of the better ones he has had and highly recommends it to fellow avid monte cristo fans. I loved the chicken in the salad. It was grilled, nicely seasoned and moist. Usually chicken comes cold or room temperature in a salad but I liked how this was hot. Overall, a great experience that reminded us of home away from home. They also own the coffee/tea shop next door. This husband and wife duo are a most important team on the hill. They are not only keeping the mountain clean but they can literally hook you up if you need to move stuff, uhaul king and queen. I had rented a 6 x 12' trailer to bring up some furniture to a friend not realizing that the drive would be traumatic for me as ai white knuckled it up the hill while having a panic attack. Thanks 243! FYI 74 is a better choice to get up the hill in any large vehicle. My friend suggested that I leave the trailer in Idyllwild and that was exactly what I did. Nice spot for local restaurants.. We came during pandemic for weekend getaway, looking something to eat for our brunches, found this place through Yelp and give it a try.. At first I wanna try their bibimbap but my husband wanna try something else that's more American food. So we chose corned beef hash and it's actually really great..yummm..I chose rye bread to accompany this entree, the bread also great :) We also ordered onion rings and it's crispy.. Love the ambience..we're seated outside as covid 19 regulations..but we're so glad since the view was very relaxing with this nice weather.. The server also very nice and the service was great.. What a unique place in a woods... ! We never knew Asian fusion in this area. They had a beautiful patio for us to seated, it was perfect been outside of downtown, we were able to park without problem. We ordered the following, followed by stars: 5- Cutlet curry with pork, cutlet curry with chiken, Chicken on fire- my friends said they loved their food! 3.5- Bulgogi - flavor was missing. We got extra gochujang sauce on the side, so I had to put this a lot to boost the flavor. I hope they will improve this better. 5- Sweet potato fries- Awesome! We loved it. My family and I stumbled across this cafe as we went to up the Mtn to play in the snow. My understanding is that they reopened its mother and Son co-operation mom runs the cafe son runs the coffee shop they are incredibly nice the son gave my daughter a Almond milk free of charge since the restaurant side only offered regular milk. We got multiple dishes every dish was absolutely delicious even my little kids chicken strips where surprisingly incredible I only say surprise as they where not frozen pre made but hand batter flaky crust. I seriously feel like this place is a great gem as it hits all the bases ambiance, service, and delicious food. read more

Sauce was delicious, with pineapple among other things. Then drizzle over sriracha and mix. Keep mixing it to cool off. It was what I was expecting. Meat is good quality, and pickled veggies are fresh and crisp. Pork belly fried rice came in just the right amount for one person. Even distribution of pork and rice. Review is for the Asian food only. Maybe as an LA native, my expectations were too high for a mountain cafe with Korean/Asian fare. Miso Soul (3.5/5) great start to the meal, generous serving of flavorful broth with chives and tofu. Wish they served this a little warmer. It was just above lukewarm when it arrived to our table. Bibimbap (1/5) if you serve Korean food at your place, this is something you need to get right. The stone was way too hot, so a majority of the rice burned. Lacking in flavor. I didn't get any of the intense Korean spice as i am used to. And it was DRY. Usually the I kept dumping the sauce on it, but my bowl was so hot it kept drying out the whole dish. I ended up emptying the bowl into another plate just so I didn't burn my tongue. Wish it had avocado like the other dish we tried. Really disappointing. Chicken on Fire (3.5/ 5) good dish for a cold day. But beware, this sauce has an intense post-bite kick! Loved the side of avocado and how the sauce added depth to the dish. The chicken was perfectly cooked and moist. I think this dish was too starchy, would have loved an additional vegetable instead of the mound of rice it was served with. Sad I wasn't a fan of the Asian dishes at this place, because we did see some locals there and they had a harp player that was very entertaining. I would return, but I would stay away from the Asian fare. read more

I recently bought a cabin in idyllwild and was out scavenging for brunch. I went to the nearest cafe; this turned out to be the best find yet! The space is warm and you are greeted by a beautiful grand piano. The space is warm by the cosy wood-burning fireplace. Since my first visit here, I've had an array of items including the portobello poached egg, asparagus omelet, French toast, to the most simple platter of eggs and toast. All of which are cooked perfectly. The chef even offered to cook me another egg because the yoke on my sunny side up egg broke. They let me sample some of their fresh squeezed orange juices, which is delicious. This is a family owned business and the people are a delight here. They have the occasional musical performances as well I learned. I will definitely be returning and recommend this place to the highest. read more

Seriously, chicken dumpling soup on a cold winter day is the best, most soul-restoring meal one can enjoy in Idyllwild. I love this place so much that on a recent visit my friend hit it up twice in two days. I had the buckwheat banana pancakes one day (DELICIOUS!) and the grilled tofu and vegetables the next (ALSO DELICIOUS). My friend was a huge fan of their sandwiches. Truly great menu with a great mix of options, super friendly waitstaff, all in a warm and inviting modern, yet cozy, environment right off the highway.
