To eat, I got the salmon toast with crème fraiche - it looks light but is filling and packed with protein. A friend of mine got the burrata which comes with a tomato sauce and bruschetta for dipping. It's on the ground floor below the Mira and fits right into the vibe of the neighborhood. Think casual, upscale, polished industrial chic with lots of concrete, glass and low lighting. Some people enjoy their St. Patrick's day going out and getting crazy. Me, I craved something calmer and more up my alley, which is why I spent the drinking holiday at Mili Wine Bar. Arrived at around 8pm and was greeted to a nice quiet wine bar. It was lovely in there too. Low lights and a chill environment will always have my heart. Wine selection was great! I had a few glasses recommended by the bartender and they were great. The food was incredible! We got: Beet Salad - delicious and perfectly chopped beets with arugula on top of a yummy sauce Meatballs - Topped with cheese and served with delicious bread (MY FAVORITE) Caviar - totally yummy, served with creme fraiche and some warm blini's. I like this place, though to be honest up until a few weeks ago I was completely unaware it existed. Much like a great treasure though, I'm glad I found it. Really like the thought behind the wine list, especially the sparkling wines from outside of California. I was in another store and met the lady that works here. I decided to stop by one evening solo. I was greeted as soon as I came in and was given a menu. I asked for recommendations on food and wine pairing. Most of the wines were in the dry side and I like a wine with a little sweetness too it. I was given a taste of several options before I decided. Randomly discovered Mili via Yelp while trying to find somewhere to grab a drink near where we parked. It is located on Folsom at the corner of Spear, about a block off the Embarcadero. Mili is relatively small, with around 4 tables, a couple bar-style window seats, and room for ~12 people between all bar seating. There seemed to be a good mix of regulars and people coming in for the first time. I overheard multiple people ask the person working about another one of the staff that's usually there. The menu wasn't huge, but had some quality wines! They had 8 White & Rose options, 7 Reds, and 3 different bubbles to choose from. They offer all options in a Taste size (2oz), Glass (5oz), or bottle. They also have a small food menu. This includes nicer bar snacks such as Marcona almonds, olives, and hummus. They have some smaller plates, which include a delicious looking Buratta dish, tuna poke, cheese fondue, and meatballs with potatoes. If you're feeling fancy, you can get a charcuterie board, or even caviar! They even have a molten chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert! Our Sommelier, Lorelle, was friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines they served. We ordered 4 tastes to start, and she was able to walk us through each one letting us know some tasting notes and other information about the wine. The tasting size is great, since it allows you to try a few before making a decision on a larger glass, or just taste a handful of different wines! We unfortunately didn't try any of the food, as we had just recently come from dinner. The other person working, Jose, was managing all things food prep while Lorelle handled all things wine. With all the tables taken, we sat at the bar and had a great view of Jose putting together delicious dishes the whole time! tl;dr: Impolite, lukewarm atmosphere from the female attendant/waiter/manager -- probably decent for a small party but would definitely avoid for larger parties (8+) and/or if you care about being treated politely I made a reservation for approx. 10 people for a post-work happy hour with a day's notice. The bar was able to accommodate this late request, which was very much appreciated. They did let us know that the table has lower capacity but that we could mingle around, which again was very much appreciated. Selection was fine. Service was decent for the most part, but the woman who attended our table was honestly rude and abrasive. We tried to be polite given our party size, and so when placing our initial order, I asked if I should separate our food and drink orders for ease (it was one server without a pad). She said no, and so we ordered all at once. However, later into our stay, the woman seemed irritable and complained that we were asking for too many things at once (we only ordered an additional single serving drink, water, and a final wine bottle -- and not all at once). It was genuinely unwelcoming and made it feel as if we were a nuisance for simply ordering at theur establishment. Cherry on top was the same woman throwing out my tea from a nearby shop. When we first entered, she let us know that outside food was not allowed and asked to ***take*** my drink while we were in the establishment. I readily agreed, understanding that I would get my drink back upon leaving. When I asked for my drink back, I was told "oh that was tossed a long time ago!" If your policy is to ***discard*** outside beverages, please be EXPLICIT about it. Most reasonable establishments will hold onto your item or ask you to throw it out yourself. Unsurprisingly, things are pricey; there are only a few wines under $20 a glass. Hope they can add more in the future. Plenty of seating Friday at 5pm, but by 6pm it definitely filled up.
