I'll spare you the ups and downs of the whole journey but there was a point where I had to pull the plug on the second shop with some tasks remaining. Vintage Hot Rod was able to pick up and finish their work and correct mistakes that had been made. This shop has several guys working on projects, so the collective expertise is there to make sure that problems can be solved. They finished installing trim pieces, fixed the other guys mistakes in wiring and got it running again. All in short order. And yes, they communicated well with me the entire time. A word to anyone thinking of getting into classic cars; it takes a lot of money and it takes a lot of time. More of both than you will ever anticipate. If you think you are going to get a car and fix it up for cheap...you won't. It's far better to get a car that's already finished. There are lots of unpleasant surprises when you start rehabbing a car. Vintage Hot Rod did not do my body work. Their estimate was too high for me. I went with a shop that had a little better deal but less collective experience. In retrospect, I think I should have gone with Vintage Hot Rod. The day before we stumbled on the amazing team at Roberts Automotives my husband and I had flown up to Washington to collect our RV (which had been stuck there for nearly 3 months being repaired after we hit a deer while exploring Washington's National parks over the summer). On day 2 of our road trip back to Los Angeles from Washington, our newly repaired A/C stopped working! It was late in the afternoon on a Friday so we knew finding a mechanic willing to help us close to closing time, and in an RV no less, was going to be a challenge but after speaking with the owner Sean on the phone we trekked an hour out of the way to visit his shop in Chico. Not only did he and his guys stay after hours to help us but they were also the friendly faces we needed after a stressful day on the road. I have a 2020 Mazda I bought from Chico Mazda brand new now has 94,000 miles car developed a light…read moreshutter so I took it in for a servicing asked for a code scan and a drain and refill had to argue with the service writer about dropping the pan and doing a filter what I got was a scripted video inspection where he said my rear axles look fine on a front wheel drive car that has no rear axle all the fluids look good but my coolant reservoir is empty. The service I got was a charged for a tire rotation I didn't ask for I had just rotated my tires the prior week no code scan they said that's part of a full diagnostics they did do a drain and refill, but can't tell me the condition of the fluid they drove my car to test the shuttering. I'm pretty sure that's part of a diagnostics. They can drive my car, but they can't put a code scanner on it nowhere in the report did they mention driving the car and just for another example of unprofessionalism when we got to the office the other service passed us on because he was complaining about already doing 15 service and he hasn't had anything to eat. apparently they don't do what you ask for they do what they want to do.
