Like you, the first thing I look at when I am checking out a business on Yelp is the star rating. A lot of times I agree or disagree to various degrees but not this time. Miller's NJ Ale House is a solid 3 star performer. As my friend Nick mentioned, it's like an Applebees with 2 gigantic bars and a crapload of TVs. It's a great place to watch a game or enjoy a bite to eat but there are a few drawbacks. First of all, they get crowded, really crowded and waits are often extended. When it's like this, the staff, particularly the host/hostesses seem overwhelmed and confused. The place is cavernous so I do understand but I think it could be managed better and certainly more professionally. Wait times to get a drink at the bar can also be excessive. This is something I never understood. Every minute spent waiting for a drink is a minute you're not drinking and a minute you're not drinking is a minute they're not making money. Seems foolish on their part. I understand not wanting to flood the bar with bartenders but there should be a better balance. The food is typical bar fare and is priced accordingly. Worth mentioning is that, for some ridiculous reason, they share a building with 24 Hour Fitness. The ridiculousness is not due to the obvious, a bar adjacent to a gym. It's due to the fact that both businesses require a lot of parking and if there's a game on, especially an important one, you may spend longer looking for a parking space then a drink and believe me, you can wait a looooong time for a drink. All and all, Miller's is a solid choice especially for a sports fan but I would caution against going on major sports nights unless you have a tolerance for long waits and screaming fans. I'd give the bar and atmosphere a 4 star review. Maybe even 5 star. It has a log cabin feel too it - nice and cozy with a fireplace too. It's spacious, although it does get crowded on the weekends. The food, however, stinks. I ordered the grilled chicken and it was dry. The green beans that came with it were undercooked. On a separate occasion I ordered the NY Strip Steak and it lacked any type of seasoning. It was rather fatty too. Another time I got a grilled chicken sandwich and the chicken was dry and bland. (Not sure why I keep giving so many chances). The food rating, when ordering a "real meal", is about a 2. Their bar food is pretty good though! The zingers and loaded fries were really good! I'd like to try more junk food here. I love coming here for drinks but not to eat. This is def the kind of place to meet up with friends, get your drink on and get some late night munchies. read more

Last night was my second time eating at this place. The first time I had the an order of wings, zingers and a steak sandwich, which all were excellent! Last night, I decided to order the full rack of ribs. One thing I will tell you is DON'T order the ribs. They were absolutely disgusting! I'd had my share of ribs in my time and these didn't even taste like real meat. Not to mention, they had NO sauce on them and all around, was a bad meal! PROS: This is the largest bar/restaurant I've ever been too. With outside seating and a lot inside, it's hard for this place to get cramped. The parking is plentiful and the food is amazing. The prices are normal for a bar and there is plenty on the menu. The wait staff seemed nice to me and my waitress even undercharged my food. If your a sports fan you'll like the autographs and framed memorabilia hanging up all over the place. CONS: The place is in a bad location and shares the parking lot with a 24 hour fitness. I am (was) a regular visitor to the Millers Ale House in Paramus. My wife and I enjoy(ed) visiting there to watch sporting events or to just relax over a couple of drinks and tasty food. We were there today, and I decided to have a glass of wine rather than beer. I admit that I did not look at the price for the wine, but when we cashed out, I was shocked that they were charging $16 for a 9-ounce glass of wine. Remember, that this is Miller's ale house, NOT the 21 Club and the wine was Josh Cellars, not Silverado. Considering that any liquor store will charge about $20 bucks for a bottle of Josh Cab, which means that each ounce costs about $0.80. Millers was charging me $1.78 per ounce! Thats well over 220% profit the cost in a liquor store and and even greater profit considering the more preferential rates that Millers enjoys. This 5 star review is for our server, Josh. Last Sunday 12 of us finally got together after a very long time and we were excited to say the least. We sat outside. With that many people if you don't have a good server it doesn't matter what you get if you can't get it or get it right. We had Josh running back and forth, not intentionally, but because we were ordering drinks at different times. We ordered food multiple times, we were there awhile :), and he remembered everything through the noise, laughter and changes. He had an upbeat, friendly, easygoing personality and he hustled. Awesome sports bar in Paramus. They have several locations but I'm only reviewing for this Jersey location specifically. They have over 30+ flat screen TVs, displaying all of your favorite sporting channels. You have the option to sit indoors, at the outdoor patio area, or by the bar. They have an extensive selection of craft beers and I love their $10 pitcher cocktail specials! ELECTRIC LIT -- Long Island iced tea pitcher for $10. It can't get any better than that! Quite different from the typical LIT, it has a sweet citrusy flavor to it and wasn't watered down surprisingly. It also brought out the tangy bbq flavor of my zingers. SPINACH DIP -- This comes with a side of tortilla chips & salsa. The hot-melted cheeses was perfectly layered with the spinach. The dip was just AMAZING and one of the best I've ever had. ZINGERS -- Boneless chicken wings that are drowned in the sauce of your choice. We opted for the golden bbq one. These zingers tasted super delicious! My boyfriend had the sweet thai chili flavor his last visit and says it tasted superb. Can't wait to come back to try the other flavors! Great restaurant! For an appetizer, the table split cheese curds. They were petty good. For my meal, I ordered Zingers mac and cheese. If you have never been to Miller's, Zingers are basically just chicken fingers drenched with a barbecue sauce of your choosing. They are hand breaded, so you know they are good! I have been eating in at Miller's every week now and they never disappoint. The staff here are amazing, great service, and they have such excellent food. I came in today and our server, Alexa, was outstanding. She always checked in on us and made sure everything was fine. She is extremely friendly and always had a smile on her face. The manager, Andrew, was amazing as well. Not only did he come to our table, but he went to the other tables as well to make sure everything was running smoothly. I've been coming here for years since they opened, normally I'd give them a solid 3-4 starts based on service and amazing food BUT I'm here today hours from the super bowl and they turned us down because they said EVEN THOUGH there were open tables NOT RESERVED they wouldn't give it to us unless we were gonna stay the 3-4 hours for the game. Now I understand 100% if you had all tables reserved but the manager told us directly they had a few tables open and wouldn't give it to us so they could wait for super bowl customers. It just gets insanely crowded when a local team's playing (especially football). So crowded, you can't even hear the television or your friends. This place is mostly fine for drinks although people can get sloppy if you come too late at night. This review is based solely on what I saw happening when I went for drinks this past week. The bar overlooks the kitchen so I was able to see this happening multiple times. I saw the same server, multiple times, touching chicken with her hands and fingers and then serving it to her tables. She took chicken from one dish, put it on a fork, and then slide it off the fork into another dish using her bare hands. Absolutely disgusting. No gloves or anything. read more

Miller's Ale House is a newcomer (within the last few years) to the Bergen County bar scene. With seemingly endless space within their huge venue it seems to have gobbled up much of the traffic previously reserved for many smaller bars within the area. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it certainly has changed things in the bar scene. Miller's Ale House Is huge, however it manages to get pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday night and also on Fridays during happy hour. It is host to one of the most diverse crowds I have ever seen. Everyone seems to go there from business professionals in suits, to families with children, to couples, work colleagues, and derelicts; all thrown together into one giant melting pot of people looking to have a good time. It would be an excellent choice for a major sports event or to try out after work one day on Friday. During the hot summer days one of the wings of the bar changes the Windows out for screens and it makes for a nice, outdoorsy type of atmosphere. I'm definitely a fan of this location and will continue to stop by from time to time. In a way I always feel guilty for getting a major establishment like Miller's my business when the smaller bars could really use the money. read more

A rather noisy establishment, lots TV's with your basic bar food menu. Tacos, fish n chips, grilled chicken Ceasar salad and Reuben sandwich all tasty. However they introduced pulled pork as a new sandwich to the menu. First time around sandwich arrived COLD, when it was finally time to taste, it was disappointing, something they need to work on. I've come here plenty of times and never have I experienced such terrible service as I have this evening. Came with a party of 3, asked for my steak well done it was burnt on the outside and RAW, not rare inside. Waited about 8 minutes for the server, Lisa, to come back to our table after watching her converse with others in the back by the station near the kitchen. She took my plate back to the kitchen to have it "fixed". Waited another 10 minutes, saw the line cook place the food for it to be served and it sat there for exactly 7 minutes before a manager, Elsa, came to serve me. I wish I could've taken a picture of what was being served...a piece of Carbon. My entire party was done with their meal, so I asked for a side of calamari. Below is exactly how my calamari was served. Minutes later Lisa, not Elsa, came to advise me they ran out of the side order I wanted with my meal so I just asked to cancel my entire order. I ended up sitting down for some munchies. They had some pretty good nachos. I came back here again and tried some food; burger and onion rings. Really not that good. Drove an hour to come to this spot just to have a below average experience. We were greeted by a less than welcoming gentleman wearing a Beckham jr jersey and glasses. "You can't take any table you want, You gotta go see the hostess" ok sitting at the bar inside Vito and Jason were not the type of people to work with customers. Not friendly, not showing they appreciate your business. And let's just stop the holding the bottle opener against your skin with a wristband. It's not very hygienic when that opener is going to touch the bottle I'm going to drink off. Zingers were actually good. Philly cheese was terrible. Bun was cold and tasted old cheese was half way melted. Fries weren't left on the frier enough since they tasted frozen. Overall horrible. The only bright spots were Andrea and dessert.
