Terrible customer service. Miller Lock Smith has the blanks to our building's perimeter keys (our original locksmith went out of business, so they sold (?) them to Miller), so I have to deal with them. They are not convenient. They have very short store front hours, that are also inconsistent, so whenever I have to deal with them it's a task I know will take me several weeks. Here is what I typically endure. For starters, you need to get a letter from our management company to make copies of our perimeter keys with these people. So, that takes time to coordinate. So, I end up collecting a bunch of orders from people, because it's not like you can log onto their website and remit payment. I always have to call in advance, because they don't always adhere to the posted hours. Learned this the hard way because we sent another neighbor to do the drop off and they weren't there. She was pissed because she traveled a substantial distance mid-day, from her job, to do this. So then the task punted to me and I had to beg permission from my boss to do this task. Last time I went they could not get the keys replicated while I waited, so I had to go twice. In contrast, Fisher Hardware had staff who could replicate 10 keys for me while I waited. (RIP Fisher Hardware). In other words, if you get along with these people great. But if you need same-day assistance, go somewhere else. Sorry, but I'm just trying to manage expectations. read more

We have been using Miller's for over thirty years. Fred is awesome! He knows how to do complex keying systems with masters and various levels of access for businesses or home use. He is always pleasant to work with and has reasonable pricing. We use him a lot when tenants move out and we need to rekey doors and mailboxes. I highly recommend Miller's. read more

So I really rarely leave bad reviews... but you just wait. I've never used a locksmith before, I've always had a family member change my lock for me or had my key copied at UPS or whatever was closest. This time I was changing locks after someone moved out of my place for safety reasons, my landlord said I had to do it through this place becausee the apartment complex has some kind of master system that a new key has to comply with, plus if you look at my lock, it doesn't look like a standard lock and handle but like a hotel one and all the doors have a same exact one. Okay so I do as they ask, make an appointment, the guys comes late but gets it done. My lock is changed and gives me 3 keys to go with like I asked. I tested the the key, worked great. My old keys immediately get put together on one loop with the spare gate key and into the junk drawer. At this point it would have been a 4 or 5 star rating. This is the scary part. Couple weeks later my gate key gets bent out of shape and because I'm in a rush I just grab the whole loop of keys from my junk drawer and clip it in with my keys thinking that I will transfer the keys when I have more time ( so now I look like a janitor basically)... as I'm coming in I open my gate (yay) and then my apartment door and as soon as it opens I realize I'm using my old key. I'M USING MY OLD KEY?! So I start to test all the keys, surprise my old and new keys are the same. Honestly I thought I was crazy. I called them, they apologized, they couldn't come the same day, but came the next and re-did it. Honestly never in my life would I have thought that I'd need to check if my locksmith REALLY checked my lock, but.. yup, lesson learned. I complained with my landlord and I hope I will never ever EVER have a need to use them again through the building. If you had your locks changed for safety reasons, please double check! I have no idea how this lock shop has stayed in business in Santa Monica this long. There's not really much you can do to screw up the experience of getting keys made, but if you can stand to go elsewhere, it'll be worth your while. I'm about supporting local Santa Monica, independent companies, and this shop surely does not get my support for their lousy customer service. read more

I have been going to Miller's Lock Shop for the pass 16 years getting key made and locks fixed. I have several rental properties in the Santa Monica locations. I had to get a key made for a lock and brought the lock in. I was told it would take a week and a half to make the key because he was back up with work. He said he would call me and let me know when to pick up. A week and half went with no call, I had to go out of down for some business and came back and call him 3 weeks later. When I called first thing Monday the locksmith said that he had to find the job and to call him in a few hours, the funny thing was that he never asked me for my name or number to find the job. I tried to call back but it when to VM, so I decided to go the shop and a sign posted on the door that he was closed and will be opened the next day. So I called Monday late afternoon and asked him to call me with and update and no call. I called Tuesday morning and went to VM again. I took my chances and went to the shop and the locksmith was opened. I asked him that I had waited 3 weeks if he made a key for the lock that I brought in and his response was he did not have time, which I find he was bullshitting me and did not care. I was willing to pay the premium price to get the key made since I have been going to him for so many years. Well he lost my business for his lack of effort. I took the lock to Santa Monica Locksmith that day and it took them one day to make the key for me and the price was half what I was quote from Miller's Lock Shop. Beware of Miller's Lock Shop he was a joke when he tell he was busy, he had no answer. He look like he was lost and did give a shit. He forget's that people like us keep him in business and to be treated with no respect does not work for me. I will make sure I put a comment on google and where ever else to warn people of his lack of responsibility to the public. read more

I had four keys made here with "Do not duplicate" stamped on them at the shop from my key. Well, two of them did not work, and I had to have them remade. They were too expensive, $25/key. read more

They may be good locksmiths but there business practices are horrible. They're never there, they leave early and when I dropped off a lock to be rekeyed they were closed at 330pm in the afternoon wtf! So I call the guy he says he's on an emergency call out of the city - same lame excuse as yesterday when I tried to drop the keys off the first time. This operation is a joke. read more

Over the years of living in Santa Monica (6 years ago) and now Malibu...from where I'll travel out of my way to these 2 guys...I've always gotten great service...more than once, with keys given, no charge, until I took them away, tried them, and returned later. Also...they are old-Mercedes-friendly, if you have an older car with a key challenge. Parking--which is AWFUL in Santa Monica--is okay here--you can often find a spot right in front of their door to watch for that ridiculous Santa Monica parking b.s. patrol that discourages so much business in Santa Monica. Superb local, reliable place - and honest. Just relocated and was considering replacing a bunch of locks, but they told me I didn't need to and that re-keying the locks was cheaper and as effective. Shop has been around for several decades and many neighbors recommended it as trustworthy and efficient. I agree. Miller's did good work at a fair price. He was able to come quickly to help me with my situation. Be wary of other locksmiths in Santa Monica who do not have shops. They all have the same call centers and they overcharge. read more
