Came here last Saturday to take my BFF for brunch for her birthday. There was a very extensive wait time but the older gentleman that was taking names was very pleasant and let us enjoy a mimosa while waiting. About 35 minutes later we were seated. We ordered another round of mimosas and we both ordered the soft scrambled eggs with lobster, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes in a puff pastry. Almost an hour later... No food. The waitress came and told us that she forgot to put in our food! I was very disappointed. She offered to buy one of our rounds of mimosas to compensate for the very major mistake. 10 minutes later our food came and it was awesome! I devoured not only because that was my first meal of the day and we waited almost 2 hours for food, but it was tasty! Love this spot so much I've been twice in my first month in Richmond. It's not a big spot, so seating is limited but they do take reservations for brunch which I have found is not super common. The famous potatoes are famous for a reason - delicious blend of Indians spices, makes them really unique. Portions are decent and always ask about the specials -- they have drink and food specials. Recommend the Devil's Mess, Steak and Eggs, and Eggs and Lobster. The only thing we weren't a huge fan of was the Huevos Rancheros, it felt like a whole can of black beans. read more

When David Lynch said "bad coffee is better than no coffee" he had not yet been to Minnie's. Things don't have to be expensive to be good, but should be good if they are expensive. The coffee was burnt, watery, and genuinely unpleasant to drink while also being $3. They must be using a very cheap prepacked product. The food was about the same. If this was a diner? Fine. But at this price point you can go to Stella's and spend the same or less, get much better quality food and more of it, and a very good of coffee for only $2.75. read more

My mom is visiting from out of town and we were hungry for breakfast. A friend of mine recommended this place so we decided to give it a try. We got there and the wait was about 15 minutes or so. The host offered us beverages to drink while we waited. She got a coffee and I got some water. The one negative is that there is no place to sit and wait so we had to awkwardly stand in front of people who were already seated and I felt like we were invading their space and breathing down their necks. We finally got a table in a corner by a window and got refills on our drinks. We knew what we wanted since we looked at the menu while we waited as well. I got the eggs benny and she got this enchilada thing with crab and scrambled eggs inside. Both things came with home fries on the side. My meal was delicious. It was made with a croissant instead of an English muffin, with thin sliced ham and poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was amazing - it had a little sriracha or something in it that gave the meal a little something extra. My mom loved her meal as well. Everything was decently priced, but a bit on the expensive side for my taste. Our total was $40 for everything, including the tip. The atmosphere was great, a little noisy and definitely busy. I've been wanting to try Millie's at brunch for a while...so today was the day. Unfortunately the weather was far from agreeable-and we waited outside in the snow/rain mix for over an hour before we were called, but we expected a pretty long wait. We had mimosas while waiting which were nice and then the Evil Keevil (rum punch) once we got seated-which was delicious! I ordered the soft scrambled eggs with lobster (and mushrooms, onions puff pastry and home fries). The home fries tasted old and badly seasoned. The eggs were fine, with a couple of small, tough pieces of lobster-the best part of my meal was the complimentary whole grain toast with preserves. My friend ordered the Castro's Mess-which she also thought was adequate. The service was good-our server and the gentleman who initially took our name and called us when our turn came up were both friendly and polite. But, after hearing that they source locally and only use ingredients that are in season it made perfect sense. Truely, the more limited the menu, the tastier the dish. Came to Millie's for the first time on a Thursday just before noon with a friend. Parking: There was plenty of free 2 hr street parking around the place, which was convenient, and it was easy to find the restaurant. Ambiance: First impression is that the decor was all over the place. We couldn't really understand the theme. It was mixed with diner slash delicatessen slash intimate restaurant. That said, the place is fairly small. I wouldn't recommend for big groups. Although they just opened for the day, 2 tables were already filled, and by the time we finished and left, more than half of the tables already had guests, so I recommend timing your visit well. Customer service: We were greeted immediately. The waitress was really friendly, but I'm not sure she knew the menu that well. I like how on our way to the door, we were basically greeted goodbye by every employee there. People here are really friendly and attentive. Food: I can only speak for the Grilled Eggplant, Tomato, and Brie Sandwich, and that sandwich is the bomb dot com. I am not at all vegetarian, but I appreciate eggplant cooked well and creatively, and this was a prime example of it. The mix of textures was great. The bread was delicious, but the combination of eggplant and brie was the star of the show. What made this plate even better were the potatoes. I don't know what seasoning they put on there, but it. is. goooood. They also put a bit of this red sauce on both my plate and my friend's, which I had the mistake of thinking it was ketchup. It was not. It was spicy. But just the right amount of spicy to go with the potatoes. I really wish I saved room for dessert because it looks like they make some interesting and unique desserts at Millie's. I'll have to find out when I get back! read more

Third time customer and delicious sweet potato curry gnocchi appetizer, I had the rack of lamb and my dining companion had the halibut which were both delicious. Dessert we had a rose water cake with balsamic strawberries, strawberry jam and a delicious basil-lime sauce. And my companion had a vanilla crème brulee which was also delicious. Our waiter was awesome, the chefs are awesome and we always luck out and get the seat across from the kitchen (which I love) to watch the chefs in action! read more

Great food as always. My husband had the Devil's Mess and I tried the Cuban Mess this time. Both were delicious. We got there a little earlier than the typical Sunday crowd so the wait was minimal. I can't give it 5 stars because the waitress gave us attitude for no reason. I wanted a refill on my Mimosa and she was standing half turned away ( literally just standing there). High volume Green Day, Nirvana inspired toe tappers that I would expect at a goth music fest. So loud that we had to repeat our order a few times to the (Wonderful) server so she could hear our order. There was no conversation to be had with my wife over a relaxing coffee I can tell you. While I'm sure the predictable toxic feedback I can expect will be the "if it's too loud, you're too old".... but I can say that if they would just play the music(?) at diner volume, and not bar volume, it would no doubt receive a 5/5 from me. I had been planning to visit Richmond for a day and whenever I asked a friend where I should eat, the answer was always, "MILLIES!" With that much enthusiasm, too. So Millie's it was, and Millie's did not disappoint. I called about an hour ahead just to see what the wait time was and the woman who answered said, "actually there's no wait right now, we're having an oddly slow Saturday." YAY ME. When we actually got there tho, we had about a 15min wait which is certainly not bad at all. They let you order drinks first while you wait outside. It's a very unique and quirky atmosphere. It's not the grungy diner that serves eggs with country-fried steak. It's more of a hipster diner, if you will, whose most popular dish is the soft scrambled eggs with lobster and bacon (and mushrooms and tomatoes) with a puff pastry side. And yet, the cooks and waiters are extremely down to earth (and young, too). Anyway, I got the scrambled eggs with lobster which came with a side of potatoes. Good lord the entire plate was scrumptious, I couldn't leave without licking the plate clean. Did I mention they squirt the siracha "Rooster sauce" on the plate? Hell yes! My sister got the Devil's Mess which had an interesting mix of really great ingredients, but it didn't come well together for me. So I was happy with what I got, it'll be hard for me to not stop by this place if I'm in Richmond again. read more

I loved Millie's! The wait is long (especially on the weekends), but I was really happy with how everything turned out. I probably won't come back on a weekend just because of the wait though. Since I was with 5 other people, I got to sample a lot of their dishes and there wasn't one dish I didn't like! We tried all the "messes" - Devil's, Cajun, and Castro's - and they were all delicious. I think my favorite out of all 3 was the Cajun because the flavor was great! I also got to try the soft scrambled egg with lobster and thought it was incredible. I loved how it was served with puff pastry! One of my friends decided on a dish with sausages and egg, I forgot what it was called but I remember it being good. Coming into Richmond, I wasn't really sure what to expect; however, being my first time I was ready for something new. And evidently I found my way to Millie's. I would definitely start by saying Millie's is a very unique twist on a restaurant. In the morning it seems as a very casual breakfast joint, but turn the lights down and it comes off as a very respectable dinner spot, with a full bar with those of age. This being said, I was there for brunch and it was fantastic. The food had great flavor and was very filling. Along with the food, Millie's staff was extremely careful with dealing with gluten free food which is amazing (one of the owners is gluten free). Also, the wait staff was on top of all the tables even though it was during the crazy breakfast rush. The food came in a reasonable amount of time, and drink refills were never an issue. The ambiance is also very nice, it's a casual up-beat place, only complaint is that the music was very loud, which made it difficult to hear the people across from you. This might have just been the day I was there however. I also have to warn people who are taller, some of the doorways are a little short, so watch your head. Overall, Millie's is a great place for brunch and I would assume dinner as well. The food is great, the staff is great, and an awesome place to be. Definitely recommend for anyone around. read more

Let's start with our server who was phenomenal- she talked to my daughter about college life in Richmond when we told her we were visiting for a soccer/college recruiting event. She was super kind! Then someone called me and said "your table is ready" I explained we couldn't wait anymore and he LIED!!! saying, well, we've been trying to "page" you for 15 mins. Trying??? Page me? to what pager? I didn't get a pager! He was rude and I guess I'll NEVER go back there regardless of the food been great. They also now serve everything in Plastic and that is terrible. Millie's is a Richmond institution and just might be my new favorite brunch spot! Don't let the name fool you -- it's definitely not your average diner food. The place is really small and was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon but proved to be well worth the wait! You can order a mimosa and wait on the patio for a table to open up or watch the chefs at the front of the restaurant for some inspiration on what to order. Everything that came out smelled wonderful which made settling on one thing to order difficult! My friend ordered a benny and thought it tasted great. I decided to branch out and try one of their specials, all of which sounded delicious. I settled on the chiles rellenos with shrimp stuffed poblanos, two poached eggs, queso fresco, mashed potatos, salsa and sour cream. It may not have be the most photogenic meal I've ever had, but was certainly delicious...spicy but well-balanced. The portion size was huuuge! Probably enough to split, really. Absolutely amazing for brunch, this quaint little restaurant just outside libby Park is truly a gem outside the heart of the city of RVA. Parking here is a tough scene on a busy weekend afternoon or evening as it is all street parking up and down main and behind off cary but is worth the headache if you are coming in for brunch/breakfast or dinner. I've been here for brunch and dinner but highly recommend brunch. The best thing this place has to offer are the omelettes, specifically the devils mess. Their other brunch menu items are all really good though! On the bit pricier end, but if you're visiting Richmond or are a local and haven't been, it is worth a visit! For dinner, it could be beneficial to wait till restaurant week as they normally participate with Richmond's restaurant week and will provide a venue to try a few things so you get a taste of all they have to offer! Service is on point as well, very courteous and prompt. The cooked the duck to perfection with a wonderful crispy skin. It was the perfect blend of savory and a hint of sweet with the plum.
